In current practice, many image processing tasks are done sequentially (e.g. denoising, dehazing, followed by semantic segmentation). In this paper, we propose a novel multi-task neural network architecture designed for combining sequential image processing tasks. We extend U-Net by additional decoding pathways for each individual task, and explore deep cascading of outputs and connectivity from one pathway to another. We demonstrate effectiveness of the proposed approach on denoising and semantic segmentation, as well as on progressive coarse-to-fine semantic segmentation, and achieve better performance than multiple individual or jointly-trained networks, with lower number of trainable parameters.

In this paper, we propose an efficient human pose estimation network (DANet) by learning deeply aggregated representations. Most existing models explore multi-scale information mainly from features with different spatial sizes. Powerful multi-scale representations usually rely on the cascaded pyramid framework. This framework largely boosts the performance but in the meanwhile makes networks very deep and complex. Instead, we focus on exploiting multi-scale information from layers with different receptive-field sizes and then making full of use this information by improving the fusion method. …

In this paper, we propose a cascaded non-local neural network for point cloud segmentation. The proposed network aims to build the long-range dependencies of point clouds for the accurate segmentation. Specifically, we develop a novel cascaded non-local module, which consists of the neighborhood-level, superpoint-level and global-level non-local blocks. First, in the neighborhood-level block, we extract the local features of the centroid points of point clouds by assigning different weights to the neighboring points. The extracted local features of the centroid points are then used to encode t…
In the past few years, numerous deep learning methods have been proposed to address the task of segmenting salient objects from RGB images. However, these approaches depending on single modality fail to achieve the state-of-the-art performance on widely used light field salient object detection (SOD) datasets, which collect large-scale natural images and provide multiple modalities such as multi-view, micro-lens images and depth maps. Most recently proposed light field SOD methods have acquired improving detecting accuracy, yet still predict rough objects' structures and perform slow inference…

Over the past decade, there has been a growing interest in human pose estimation. Although much work has been done on 2D pose estimation, 3D pose estimation has still been relatively studied less. GloabalNet and RefineNet in our 2D pose estimation process enable us to find occluded or invisible 2D joints while 2D-to-3D pose estimator composed of residual blocks is used to lift 2D joints to 3D joints effectively. The proposed method achieves promising results with mean per joint position error at 42.39 on the valida…

Riding on the waves of deep neural networks, deep metric learning has also achieved promising results in various tasks using triplet network or Siamese network. Though the basic goal of making images from the same category closer than the ones from different categories is intuitive, it is hard to directly optimize due to the quadratic or cubic sample size. To solve the problem, hard example mining which only focuses on a subset of samples that are considered hard is widely used. However, hard is defined relative to a model, where complex models treat most samples as easy ones and vice versa fo…
Real-time semantic segmentation has received considerable attention due to growing demands in many practical applications, such as autonomous vehicles, robotics, etc. Existing real-time segmentation approaches often utilize feature fusion to improve segmentation accuracy. To tackle this problem, we propose a light Cascaded Selective Resolution Network (CSRNet) to improve the performance of real-time segmenta…

While the deep learning-based image deraining methods have made great progress in recent years, there are two major shortcomings in their application in real-world situations. Firstly, the gap between the low-level vision task represented by rain removal and the high-level vision task represented by object detection is significant, and the low-level vision task can hardly contribute to the high-level vision task. Secondly, the quality of the deraining dataset needs to be improved. In fact, the rain lines in many baselines have a large gap with the real rain lines, and the resolution of the der…

In the proposed approach, cascaded convolutional neural networks that perform as selective classifiers filter out obvious non-nodules. The proposed architecture is simple in design and can be built on any base network. The moving image is warped successively by each cascade and finally aligned to the fixed image; this procedure is recursive in a way that every cascade learns to perform a progressive deformation for the current warped image. The entire system is end-to-end and jointly trained in an unsupervised manner. In addition, enabled by the recursive architecture, one cascade can be itera…

The feature warping registration module is then used to estimate the deformation field at each level. The coarse-to-fine manner is implemented by cascading the module from the bottom level to the top level. Furthermore, the m…
