The aim of this paper is to prove global in time existence of weak solutions for a viscoelastic phase separation. We consider the case with singular potentials and degenerate mobilities. Our model couples the diffusive interface model with the Peterlin-Navier-Stokes equations for viscoelastic fluids. To obtain the global in time existence of weak solutions we consider appropriate approximations by solutions of the viscoelastic phase separation with a regular potential and build on the corresponding energy and entropy estimates.
We prove the existence of weak solutions to a viscoelastic phase separation problem in two space dimensions. The mathematical model consists of a Cahn-Hilliard-type equation for two-phase flows and the Peterlin-Navier-Stokes equations for viscoelastic fluids. We focus on the case of a polynomial-like potential and suitably bounded coefficient functions. Using the Lagrange-Galerkin finite element method complex behavior of solution for spinodal decomposition including transient polymeric network structures is demonstrated.
A new model for viscoelastic phase separation is proposed, based on a systematically derived conservative two-fluid model. Dissipative effects are included by phenomenological viscoelastic terms. By construction, the model is consistent with the second law of thermodynamics, and we study well-posedness of the model, i.e., existence of weak solutions, a weak-strong uniqueness principle, and stability with respect to perturbations, which are proven by means of relative energy estimates. A good qualitative agreement with mesoscopic simulations is observed in numerical tests.
The aim of this paper is to analyze a viscoelastic phase separation model. We derive a suitable notion of the relative energy taking into account the non-convex nature of the energy law for the viscoelastic phase separation. This allows us to prove the weak-strong uniqueness principle. We will provide the estimates for the full model in two space dimensions. For a reduced model we present the estimates in three space dimensions and derive conditional relative energy estimates.
The aim of this work is to prove the global-in-time existence of weak solutions for a viscoelastic phase separation model in three space dimensions. To this end we apply the relative energy concept provided by [3]. We consider the case of regular polynomial-type potentials and positive mobilities, as well as the degenerate case with logarithmic potential and vanishing mobility.
The Jordan--Moore--Gibson--Thompson (JMGT) equation is a well-established and recently widely studied model for nonlinear acoustics (NLA). It is a third-order (in time) semilinear Partial Differential Equation (PDE) model with the distinctive feature of predicting the propagation of ultrasound waves at \textit{finite} speed due to heat phenomenon know as \textit{second sound} which leads to the hyperbolic character of heat propagation. In this paper, we consider the problem of stabilizability of the linear (known as) MGT--equation. We consider a special geometry that is suitable for studying t…

The paper is devoted to homogenization of two-phase incompressible viscoelastic flows with disordered microstructure. We study two cases. In the first case, both phases are modeled as Kelvin-Voight viscoelastic materials. In the second case, one phase is a Kelvin-Voight material, and the other is a viscous Newtonian fluid. The microscale system contains the conservation of mass and balance of momentum equations. The inertial terms in the momentum equation incorporate the actual interface advected by the flow. In the constitutive equations, a frozen interface is employed. The interface geometry…
We consider the wave equation with degenerate viscoelastic dissipation recently examined in Cavalcanti, Fatori, and Ma, Attractors for wave equations with degenerate memory, J. Differential Equations (2016). Under some additional assumptions, we show the existence of a compact absorbing set. This result provides further regularity for the global attractor and shows that it consists of regular solutions.
A nonlinear parabolic equation of the fourth order is analyzed. The equation is characterized by a mobility coefficient that degenerates at 0. Existence of at least one weak solution is proved by using a regularization procedure and deducing suitable a-priori estimates. If a viscosity term is added and additional conditions on the nonlinear terms are assumed, then it is proved that any weak solution becomes instantaneously strictly positive. This in particular implies uniqueness for strictly positive times and further time-regularization properties. The long-time behavior of the problem is als…
Let $S=\{S_t\}_{t\geq0}$ be the semigroup generated on $L_2(\Ri^d)$ by a self-adjoint, second-order, divergence-form, elliptic operator $H$ with Lipschitz continuous coefficients. Further let $Ω$ be an open subset of $\Ri^d$ with Lipschitz continuous boundary $\partialΩ$. We prove that $S$ leaves $L_2(Ω)$ invariant if, and only if, the capacity of the boundary with respect to $H$ is zero or if, and only if, the energy flux across the boundary is zero. The global result is based on an analogous local result.
We study a non-local version of the Cahn-Hilliard dynamics for phase separation in a two-component incompressible and immiscible mixture with linear mobilities. In difference to the celebrated local model with nonlinear mobility, it is only assumed that the divergences of the two fluxes --- but not necessarily the fluxes themselves --- annihilate each other. Our main result is a rigorous proof of existence of weak solutions. The starting point is the formal representation of the dynamics as a constrained gradient flow in the Wasserstein metric. We then show that time-discrete approximations by…
We propose a new Cahn-Hilliard phase field model coupled to incompressible viscoelasticity at large strains, obtained from a diffuse interface mixture model and formulated in the Eulerian configuration. A new kind of diffusive regularization, of Allen-Cahn type, is introduced in the transport equation for the deformation gradient, together with a regularizing interface term depending on the gradient of the deformation gradient in the free energy of the system. We study the global existence of a weak solution for the model. While standard diffusive regularizations of the transport equation for …
We prove existence, uniqueness, regularity and separation properties for a nonlocal Cahn-Hilliard equation with a reaction term. We deal here with the case of logarithmic potential and degenerate mobility as well an uniformly lipschitz in $u$ reaction term $g(x,t,u).$
