In this paper we simultaneously fit the orbits and line-of-sight velocities of the ionized gas around the supermassive black hole, Sagittarius A$^{\ast}$ (Sgr A$^{\ast}$), at the center of the Milky Way. The data we use are taken with the K-band Multi Object Spectrograph (KMOS), presented in Feldmeier-Krause et al. (2015) and cover the central $\sim$ 2 pc of the Milky Way. From the brightest gas emission line in the K-band, the Br$γ$ line, we derive the spatial distribution and line-of-sight velocities of the gas in the minispiral. Using the flux distribution and the line-of-sight velocity information, we perform a fit to the three main gas streamers in the minispiral, the Northern Arm, Eastern Arm, and Western Arc, using a Bayesian modelling method, and are able to reconstruct the three-dimensional orbits of these gas streamers. With the best fit orbital parameters and the measured line-of-sight velocities, we constrain the mass of Sgr A$^{\ast}$. The orbit of the Eastern Arm is the one that is best constrained using our data. It gives a best-fit orbital period of $17.4_{-11.6}^{+31.0}\cdot 10^3$ years and results in an enclosed mass of $14.9_{-10.4}^{+69.4}\cdot 10^6 M_{\odot}.$
Streams of gas and dust in the inner parsec of the Galactic center form a distinct feature known as the Minispiral, which has been studied in radio waveband as well as in the infrared wavebands. A large fraction of the Minispiral gas is ionized by radiation of OB stars present in the Nuclear Star Cluster (NSC). Based on the inferred mass in the innermost parsec ($\sim 10^6$ solar masses), over $\sim 10^3$ -- $10^4$ neutron stars should move in the sphere of gravitational influence of the SMBH. We estimate that a fraction of them propagate through the denser, ionized medium concentrated mainly …

We report a study of the H30$α$ line emission at 1.3 mm from the region around Sgr A* made with the Submillimeter Array at a resolution of 2\arcsec\ over a field of 60\arcsec\ (2 parsec) and a velocity range of -360 to +345 \kms. This field encompasses most of the Galactic center's "minispiral". With an isothermal homogeneous HII model, we determined the physical conditions of the ionized gas at specific locations in the Northern and Eastern Arms from the H30$α$ line data along with Very Large Array data from the H92$α$ line at 3.6 cm and from the radio continuum emission at 1.3 cm. The typica…
We report serendipitous detections of line emission with the Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array (ALMA) in band 3, 6, and 7 in the central parsec down to within 1" around Sgr A* at an up to now highest resolution (<0.5") view of the Galactic Center (GC) in the sub-millimeter (sub-mm) domain. From the 100 GHz continuum and the H39αemission we obtain a uniform electron temperature around 6000 K for the minispiral. The spectral index of Sgr A* is ~ 0.5 at 100 - 250 GHz and ~ 0.0 at 230 - 340 GHz. The bright sources in the center show spectral indices around -0.1 implying Bremsstrahlung e…
We derive the extinction curve towards the Galactic Center from 1 to 19 micron. We use hydrogen emission lines of the minispiral observed by ISO-SWS and SINFONI. The extinction free flux reference is the 2 cm continuum emission observed by the VLA. Towards the inner 14" * 20" we find an extinction of A(2.166 micron)=2.62 +/- 0.11, with a power-law slope of alpha=-2.11 +/- 0.06 shortward of 2.8 micron, consistent with the average near infrared slope from the recent literature. At longer wavelengths, however, we find that the extinction is grayer than shortward of 2.8 micron. We find it is not p…
Supermassive black holes dominate the gravitational potential in galactic nuclei. In these dense environments, stars follow nearly Keplerian orbits and see their orbital planes relax through the potential fluctuations generated by the stellar cluster itself. For typical astrophysical galactic nuclei, the most likely outcome of this vector resonant relaxation (VRR) is that the orbital planes of the most massive stars spontaneously self-align within a narrow disc. We present a maximum entropy method to systematically determine this long-term distribution of orientations and use it for a wide ran…
In the currently accepted paradigm, dark matter is hypothesized as an explanation of the flat rotation curves of galaxies under the assumption of virialized orbits. The use of millisecond pulsar timing as a probe of Galactic dark matter content is explored as a means of relaxing this assumption. A method of inference of the Galactic potential using the frequency derivative $\dotν$ is produced, and an estimate for a virialized Galactic rotation curve is given through direct observation of acceleration. The data set used includes 210 pulsars with known $\dotν$ and astrometric properties, a subse…

In order to understand the orbital history of Galactic halo objects, such as globular clusters, authors usually assume a static potential for our Galaxy with parameters that appear at the present-day. According to the standard paradigm of galaxy formation, galaxies grow through a continuous accretion of fresh gas and a hierarchical merging with smaller galaxies from high redshift to the present day. This implies that the mass and size of disc, bulge, and halo change with time. We investigate the effect of assuming a live Galactic potential on the orbital history of halo objects and its consequ…
The 3D observed velocities of the Large and Small Magellanic Clouds(LMC and SMC) provide an opportunity to probe the Galactic potential in the outskirt of the Galactic halo. Based on a canonical NFW model of the Galactic potential, Besla et al.(2007) reconstructed LMC and SMC's orbits and suggested that they are currently on their first perigalacticon passage about the Galaxy. Motivated by several recent revisions of the Sun's motion around the Galactic center, we re-examine the LMC's orbital history and show that it depends sensitively on the dark-matter's mass distribution beyond its present…
We investigate the effect that dwarf galaxies have on the orbits, tidal histories, and assumed formation environment of Milky Way globular clusters. We determine the orbits of the Milky Way's 150 globular clusters in a gravitational potential both with and without dwarf galaxies. We find that the presence of a small number of satellite galaxies can affect the orbits of many of the globular clusters. Over 12 Gyr, we find that the semi-major axis and orbital eccentricity of individual clusters fluctuate with dispersions on the order of $\sim 10\%$ and $\sim 4\%$, respectively. Outer clusters are…
We use the second Gaia data release to investigate the kinematics of 17 ultra-faint dwarf galaxies (UFDs) and 154 globular clusters (GCs) in the Milky Way, focusing on the differences between static and evolving models of the Galactic potential. An evolving potential modifies a satellite's orbit relative to its static equivalent, though the difference is small compared to existing uncertainties on orbital parameters. We find that the UFD Boötes II is likely on its first passage around the Milky Way. Depending on the assumed mass of the Milky Way, the UFDs Triangulum II, Hydrus I, Coma Berenice…
Recent observations have discovered the presence of a Box/Peanut or X-shape structure in the Galactic bulge. Such Box/Peanut structures are common in external disc galaxies, and are well-known in N-body simulations where they form following the buckling instability of a bar. From studies of analytical potentials and N-body models it has been claimed in the past that Box/Peanut bulges are supported by "bananas", or x1v1 orbits. We present here a set of N-body models where instead the peanut bulge is mainly supported by brezel-like orbits, allowing strong peanuts to form with short extent relati…
We investigate the orbital evolution of a system of N mutually interacting stars on initially circular orbits around the dominating central mass. We include perturbative influence of a distant axisymmetric source and an extended spherical potential. In particular, we focus on the case when the secular evolution of orbital eccentricities is suppressed by the spherical perturbation. By means of standard perturbation methods, we derive semi-analytic formulae for the evolution of normal vectors of the individual orbits. We find its two qualitatively different modes. Either the orbits interact stro…
With the use of a detailed Milky Way nonaxisymmetric potential, observationally and dynamically constrained, the effects of the bar and the spiral arms in the Galaxy are studied in the disc and in the stellar halo. Especially the trapping of stars in the disc and Galactic halo by resonances on the Galactic plane, induced by the Galactic bar, has been analysed in detail. To this purpose, a new method is presented to delineate the trapping regions using empirical diagrams of some orbital properties obtained in the Galactic potential. In these diagrams we plot in the inertial Galactic frame a cha…
We have studied the influence of an evolving gravitational potential of the Milky Way Galaxy on the orbital motion of 152 globular clusters with proper motions from the Gaia EDR3 catalogue and mean distances from Baumgardt and Vasiliev (2021). To construct a semicosmological evolving model potential with changing masses and sizes of the Galactic components, we have used the algorithm described in Haghi et al. (2015). The adopted axisymmetric three-component model potential of the Galaxy includes a spherical bulge, a flat Miyamoto--Nagai disk, and a spherical Navarro--Frenk--White dark matter h…
It has recently been proposed that if the Galactic dark matter halo were triaxial it would induce lumpiness in the velocity distribution of halo stars in the Solar Neighbourhood through orbital resonances. These substructures could therefore provide a way of measuring its shape. We explore the robustness of this proposal by integrating numerically orbits starting from a realistic set of initial conditions in dark halo potentials of different shape. We have analysed the resulting velocity distributions in Solar neighbourhood-like volumes, and have performed statistical tests for the presence of…
The main orbital signatures of the secular evolution of an isolated self-gravitating stellar Mestel disc are recovered using a dressed Fokker-Planck formalism in angle-action variables. The shot-noise-driven formation of narrow ridges of resonant orbits is recovered in the WKB limit of tightly wound transient spirals, for a tepid Toomre-stable tapered disc. The relative effect of the bulge, the halo, the disc temperature and the spectral properties of the shot noise are investigated in turn. For such galactic discs all elements seem to impact the locus and direction of the ridge. For instance,…
The origins of most stellar streams in the Milky Way are unknown. With improved proper motions provided by Gaia EDR3, we show that the orbits of 23 Galactic stellar streams are highly clustered in orbital phase space. Based on their energies and angular momenta, most streams in our sample can plausibly be associated with a specific (disrupted) dwarf galaxy host that brought them into the Milky Way. For eight streams we also identify likely globular cluster progenitors (four of these associations are reported here for the first time). Some of these stream progenitors are surprisingly far apart,…
Observational searches for dual active galactic nuclei (dAGNs) at kiloparsec separations are crucial for understanding the role of galaxy mergers in the evolution of galaxies. In addition, kpc-scale dAGNs may serve as the parent population of merging massive black hole (MBH) binaries, an important source of gravitational waves. We use a semi-analytical model to describe the orbital evolution of unequal mass MBH pairs under the influence of stellar and gaseous dynamical friction in post-merger galaxies. We quantify how the detectability of approximately 40,000 kpc-scale dAGNs depends on the str…
A 22 GHz water maser survey was conducted towards 178 O-rich AGB stars with the aim of identifying maser emission associated with the Sagittarius stellar stream. In this survey, maser emissions were detected in 21 targets, of which 20 were new detections. We studied the Galactic distributions of H2O and SiO maser-traced AGBs towards the Sgr orbital plane, and found an elongated structure towards the (l, b)~(340, 40) direction. In order to verify its association with the Sagittarius tidal stream, we further studied the 3D motions of these sources, but found, kinematically, these maser-traced AG…
In this study we investigate possible applications of observed S2 orbit around Galactic Center for constraining the Yukawa gravity at scales in the range between several tens and several thousands astronomical units (AU) to obtain graviton mass constraints. In our model we suppose that bulk distribution of matter (includes stellar cluster, interstellar gas distribution and dark matter) exists near Supermassive Black Hole (SMBH) in our Galactic Center. We obtain the values of orbital precession angle for different values of mass density of matter and we require that the value of orbital precess…
In this work, two new axisymmetric models for the Galactic mass distribution are presented. Motivated by recent results, these two models include the contribution of a stellar thin disc and of a thick disc, as massive as the thin counterpart but with a shorter scale-length. Both models satisfy a number of observational constraints: stellar densities at the solar vicinity, thin and thick disc scale lengths and heights, rotation curve(s), and the absolute value of the perpendicular force Kz as a function of distance to the Galactic centre. We numerically integrate into these new models the motio…
In the present work we have developed a three-dimensional gravitational model of barred galaxies, in order to study orbital and escape dynamics of the stars inside their central barred region. Our gravitational model is composed of four components, central nucleus, bar, disc and dark matter halo. Furthermore we have analysed the model for two different types of bar potentials. The study has been carried out for a Hamiltonian system and thorough numerical studies have been done in order to categorize regular and chaotic motions of stars. We have seen that escape mechanism has only seen near sad…
We recently proposed that the star-forming potential of dense molecular clouds in the Central Molecular Zone (CMZ, i.e. the central few 100 pc) of the Milky Way is linked to their orbital dynamics, potentially giving rise to an absolute-time sequence of star-forming clouds. In this paper, we present an orbital model for the gas stream(s) observed in the CMZ. The model is obtained by integrating orbits in the observed gravitational potential and represents a good fit to the distribution of dense gas, reproducing all of its key properties. The orbit is also consistent with observational constrai…
One of the most promising tracers of the Galactic potential in the halo region are stellar streams. However, individual stream fits can be limited by systematic biases. To study these individual stream systematics, we fit streams in Milky Way-like galaxies from FIRE cosmological galaxy formation simulations with an analytic gravitational potential by maximizing the clustering of stream stars in action space. We show that for coherent streams the quality of the constraints depends on the orbital phase of the observed stream stars, despite the fact that the phase information is discarded in acti…
The Galactic orbits of 27 440 stars of all classes with accurate coordinates and parallaxes of more than 3 mas from the Hipparcos catalogue, proper motions from the Tycho-2 catalogue, and radial velocities from the Pulkovo Compilation of Radial Velocities (PCRV) are analyzed. The sample obtained is much more representative than the Geneva-Copenhagen survey and other studies of Galactic orbits in the solar neighborhood. An estimation of the influence of systematic errors in the velocities on orbital parameters shows that the errors of the proper motions due to the duplicity of stars are tangibl…
We investigate the orbital motions of dwarf spheroidal galaxies (dSphs) in the halo of the Milky Way (MW) to understand their possible effects on the diversity of the star formation histories seen in these MW satellites. In this work, we explicitly consider a time-varying gravitational potential due to the growth of the MW's dark halo mass to calculate the long-term orbital evolutions of the dSphs, guided with {\it Gaia} DR2 proper motions, over the past 13.5 billion years. We find that the infall time of a satellite, defined at which the galaxy first crosses within the growing virial radius o…
The enormous velocities of the so called hypervelocity stars (HVSs) derive, likely, from close interactions with massive black holes, binary stars encounters or supernova explosions. In this paper, we investigate the origin of hypervelocity stars as consequence of the close interaction between the Milky Way central massive black hole and a passing-by young stellar cluster. We found that both single and binary HVSs may be generated in a burst-like event, as the cluster passes near the orbital pericentre. High velocity stars will move close to the initial cluster orbital plane and in the directi…
Swing amplification is a model of spiral arm formation in disk galaxies. Previous $N$-body simulations show that the epicycle phases of stars in spiral arms are synchronized. However, the elementary process of the phase synchronization is not well understood. In order to investigate phase synchronization, we investigate the orbital evolution of stars due to gravitational scattering by a perturber under the epicycle approximation and its dependence on orbital elements and a disk parameter. We find that gravitational scattering by the perturber can cause phase synchronization of stellar orbits. …
Deep stellar photometry of one of the most distant Galactic globular clusters, Palomar 3, based on frames taken with the VLT in Johnson-Cousins broadband V and Ifilters is presented, together with medium-resolution stellar spectroscopy in the central region of the cluster obtained with the CARELEC spectrograph of the Observatoire de Haute Provence and measurements of the Lick spectral indices for the integrated spectrum. Computations of the orbital parameters of Palomar 3 and nine Galactic globular clusters with similar metallicities and ages are also presented. The orbital parameters, age, me…

Globular clusters (GCs) are the most ancient stellar systems in the Milky Way. Therefore, they play a key role in the understanding of the early chemical and dynamical evolution of our Galaxy. Around $40\%$ of them are placed within $\sim4$ kpc from the Galactic center. In that region, all Galactic components overlap, making their disentanglement a challenging task. With Gaia DR2, we have accurate absolute proper motions for the entire sample of known GCs that have been associated with the bulge/bar region. Combining them with distances, from RR Lyrae when available, as well as radial velociti…
We study the distribution of nearby thick disc and halo stars in subspaces defined by their characteristic orbital parameters. Our aim is to establish the origin of the structure reported in particular, in the $R_{\rm max}-z_{\rm max}$ space. To this end, we compute the orbital parameters and frequencies of stars for a generic and for a Stäckel Milky Way potential. We find that for both the thick disc and halo populations very similar prominent substructures are apparent for the generic Galactic potential, while no substructure is seen for the Stäckel model. This indicates that the origin of t…
Fragmentation and fission of giant molecular clouds occasionally results in a pair of gravitationally bound star clusters that orbit their mutual centre of mass for some time, under the influence of internal and external perturbations. We investigate the evolution of binary star clusters with different orbital configurations, with a particular focus on the Galactic tidal field. We carry out $N$-body simulations of evolving binary star clusters and compare our results with estimates from our semi-analytic model. The latter accounts for mass loss due to stellar evolution and two-body relaxation,…
We present orbit analysis for a sample of 8 inner bulge globular clusters, together with one reference halo object. We used proper motion values derived from long time base CCD data. Orbits are integrated in both an axisymmetric model and a model including the Galactic bar potential. The inclusion of the bar proved to be essential for the description of the dynamical behavior of the clusters. We use the Monte Carlo scheme to construct the initial conditions for each cluster, taking into account the uncertainties in the kinematical data and distances. The sample clusters show typically maximum …
We present theoretical calculations for the differential distribution of stellar orbital eccentricity in a galaxy halo, assuming that the stars constitute a spherical, collisionless system in dynamical equilibrium with a dark matter halo. In order to define the eccentricity e of a halo star for given energy E and angular momentum L, we adopt two types of gravitational potential, such as an isochrone potential and a Navarro-Frenk-White potential, that could form two ends covering in-between any realistic potential of dark matter halo. Based on a distribution function of the form f(E,L) that all…
We conducted an SiO maser survey towards 221 O-rich AGB stars with the aim of identifying maser emission associated with the Sagittarius stellar stream. In this survey, maser emission was detected in 44 targets, of which 35 were new detections. All of these masers are within 5 kpc of the Sun. We also compiled a Galactic SiO maser catalogue including ~2300 SiO masers from the literature. The distribution of these SiO masers give a scale height of 0.40 kpc, while 42 sources deviate from the Galactic plane by more than 1.2 kpc, half of which were found in this survey. Regarding SiO masers in the …
The center of our galaxy is home to a massive black hole, SgrA*, and a nuclear star cluster containing stellar populations of various ages. While the late type stars may be too old to have retained memory of their initial orbital configuration, and hence formation mechanism, the kinematics of the early type stars should reflect their original distribution. In this contribution we present a new statistic which uses directly-observable kinematical stellar data to infer orbital parameters for stellar populations, and is capable of distinguishing between different origin scenarios. We use it on a …
We consider the three dimensional gravitational Vlasov Poisson system which is a canonical model in astrophysics to describe the dynamics of galactic clusters. A well known conjecture is the stability of spherical models which are nonincreasing radially symmetric steady states solutions. This conjecture was proved at the linear level by several authors in the continuation of the breakthrough work by Antonov in 1961. In a previous work (arXiv:0904.2443), we derived the stability of anisotropic models under {\it spherically symmetric perturbations} using fundamental monotonicity properties of th…
We simultaneously integrate in a numerical way the equations of motion of both the Magellanic Clouds (MCs) in MOND, MOG and CDM for -1 <= t <= +1 Gyr to see if, at least in principle, it is possible to discriminate between them (Abridged version).
We present a new directly-observable statistic which uses sky position and proper motion of stars near the Galactic center massive black hole to identify populations with high orbital eccentricities. It is most useful for stars with large orbital periods for which dynamical accelerations are difficult to determine. We apply this statistic to a data set of B-stars with projected radii 0."1 < p < 25" (~0.004 - 1 pc) from the massive black hole in the Galactic center. We compare the results with those from N-body simulations to distinguish between scenarios for their formation. We find that the s…
Recent maps of the halo using RR Lyrae from Pan-STARRS1 have clearly depicted the spatial structure of the Sagittarius stream. These maps show the leading and trailing stream apocenters differ in galactocentric radius by a factor of two, and also resolve substructure in the stream at these apocenters. Here we present dynamical models that reproduce these features of the stream in simple Galactic potentials. We find that debris at the apocenters must be dynamically young, in the sense of being stripped off in the last two pericentric passages, while the Sagittarius dwarf is currently experienci…
We propose an evolutionary model to describe the dynamical evolution of star cluster systems in tidal fields, in which we calibrated the parametric equations defining the model by running direct N-body simulations of star clusters with a wide range of initial masses and set of orbital parameters, living within the external tidal field generated by a disc-like galaxy. We derived a new method to solve numerically the evolutionary equations, allowing us to infer constraints on the mass of a star cluster from its age, present-day mass, orbital parameters and external gravitational potential. The r…
The measured orbital period decay of compact-star binaries, with characteristic orbital periods $\sim 0.1$~days, is explained with very high precision by the gravitational wave (GW) emission of an inspiraling binary in vacuum. However, the binary gravitational binding energy is also affected by an usually neglected phenomenon, namely the dark matter dynamical friction (DMDF) produced by the interaction of the binary components with their respective DM gravitational wakes. The entity of this effect depends on the orbital period and on the local value of the DM density, hence on the position of …
We present a preliminary analysis of the effect of dynamical friction on the orbits of part of the globular clusters in our Galaxy. Our study considers an anisotropic velocity dispersion field approximated using the results of studies in the literature. An axisymmetric Galactic model with mass components consisting of a disc, a bulge, and a dark halo is employed in the computations. We provide a method to compute the dynamical friction acceleration in ellipsoidal, oblate, and prolate velocity distribution functions with similar density in velocity space. Orbital properties, such as mean time-v…
In this article, we study in a little more detail the angular kinetic-energy distribution of halo Weakly Interacting Massive Particles (WIMPs) and consider two simple modifications with the Solar Galactic orbital velocity in our Monte Carlo simulations of the 3-dimensional WIMP velocity as the first trial of future investigations on distinguishing models of the Galactic structure of Dark Matter particles by using directional direct detection data.
The recent exquisite Gaia astrometric, photometric, and radial velocity (RV) measurements resulted in a substantial advancement for the determination of the orbits for old star clusters, including the oldest Milky Way globular clusters (MW GCs). The main goal of this paper is to use the Gaia DR3 and the VVVX measurements to obtain the orbits for nearly a dozen new Galactic GC candidates that have been poorly studied or previously unexplored. We use the Gaia DR3 and VVVX databases to identify bonafide members of the Galactic GC candidates: VVV-CL160, Patchick122, Patchick125, Patchick126, Kronb…
The Galactic Center star cluster, known as S-stars, is a perfect source of relativistic phenomena observations. The stars are located in the strong field of relativistic compact object Sgr A* and are moving with very high velocities at pericenters of their orbits. In this work we consider motion of several S-stars by using the Parameterized Post-Newtonian (PPN) formalism of General Relativity (GR) and Post-Newtonian (PN) equations of motion of the Feynman's quantum-field gravity theory, where the positive energy density of the gravity field can be measured via the relativistic pericenter shift…
