This paper is primarily concerned with studying finite-dimensional anti-commutative nonassociative algebras in which every centralizer is an ideal. These are shown to be anti-associative and are classified over a general field $F$; in particular, they are nilpotent of class at most $3$ and metabelian. These results are then applied to show that a Leibniz algebra over a field of charactersitic zero in which all centralizers are ideals is solvable.
This paper concerns the study of Leibniz algebras, a natural generalization of Lie algebras, from the perspective of centralizers of elements. We study conditions on Leibniz algebras under which centralizers of all elements are ideals. We call a Leibniz algebra, a CL-algebra if centralizers of all elements are ideals. We discuss nilpotency of CL-algebras.
Let $U$ be a Lie ideal of a 2-torsion free prime $Γ$-ring $M$ such that $uαu\in U$ for all $u\in U$ and $α\inΓ$. If $T:M\rightarrow M$ is an additive mapping satifying the relation $T(uαu)=T(u)αu$ for all $u\in U$ and $α\inΓ$, then we prove that $T(uαv)=T(u)αv$ for all $u, v\in U$ and $α\inΓ$. Also this result is extended to semiprime $Γ$-rings.
The concept of an $I$-matrix in the full $2\times 2$ matrix ring $M_2(R/I)$, where $R$ is an arbitrary UFD and $I$ is a nonzero ideal in $R$, was introduced in \cite{mar}. Moreover a concrete description of the centralizer of an $I$-matrix $\hat B$ in $M_2(R/I)$ as the sum of two subrings $\mathcal S_1$ and $\mathcal S_2$ of $M_2(R/I)$ was also given, where $\mathcal S_1$ is the image (under the natural epimorphism from $M_2(R)$ to $M_2(R/I)$) of the centralizer in $M_2(R)$ of a pre-image of $\hat B$, and where the entries in $\mathcal S_2$ are intersections of certain annihilators of elements…
In this paper we consider centralizers of single elements in Ore extensions of the ring of polynomials in one variable over a field. We show that they are commutative and finitely generated as an algebra. We also show that for certain classes of elements their centralizer is singly generated as an algebra.
Let $R$ be a local principal ideal ring of length two, for example, the ring $R=\Z/p^2\Z$ with $p$ prime. In this paper we develop a theory of normal forms for similarity classes in the matrix rings $M_n(R)$ by interpreting them in terms of extensions of $R[t]$-modules. Using this theory, we describe the similarity classes in $M_n(R)$ for $n\leq 4$, along with their centralizers. Among these, we characterize those classes which are similar to their transposes. Non-self-transpose classes are shown to exist for all $n>3$. When $R$ has finite residue field of order $q$, we enumerate the similarit…
Order three elements in the exceptional groups of type G2 are classified up to conjugation over arbitrary fields. Their centralizers are computed, and the associated classification of idempotents in symmetric composition algebras is obtained. Idempotents have played a key role in the study and classification of these algebras. Over an algebraically closed field, there are two conjugacy classes of order three elements in G2 in characteristic not 3 and four of them in characteristic 3. The centralizers in characteristic 3 fail to be smooth for one of these classes.
In this paper, we compute the number of distinct centralizers of some classes of finite rings. We then characterize all finite rings with $n$ distinct centralizers for any positive integer $n \leq 5$. Further we give some connections between the number of distinct centralizers of a finite ring and its commutativity degree.
We study the Loewy structure of the centralizer algebra kP^Q for P a p-group with subgroup Q and k a field of characteristic p. Here kP^Q is a special type of Hecke algebra. The main tool we employ is the decomposition of kP^Q as a split extension of a nilpotent ideal I by the group algebra kC_P(Q). We compute the Loewy structure for several classes of groups, investigate the symmetry of the Loewy series, and give upper and lower bounds on the Loewy length of $P^Q. Several of these results were discovered through the use of MAGMA, especially the general pattern for most of our computations. As…
In this paper similarity classes of three by three matrices over a local principal ideal commutative ring are analyzed. When the residue field is finite, a generating function for the number of similarity classes for all finite quotients of the ring is computed explicitly.

We present a new approach to calculating the higher Frobenius-Schur indicators for the simple modules over the Drinfeld double of a finite group. In contrast to the formula by Kashina-Sommerh{ä}user-Zhu that involves a sum over all group elements satisfying a certain condition, our formula operates on the level of conjugacy classes and character tables. It can be implemented in the computer algebra system GAP, efficiently enough to deal, on a laptop, with symmetric groups up to $S_{18}$ (providing further evidence that indicators are non-negative in this case) or simple groups of order up to $…
In this paper we show that each non-zero ideal of a twisted generalized Weyl algebra (TGWA) $A$ intersects the centralizer of the distinguished subalgebra $R$ in $A$ non-trivially. We also provide a necessary and sufficient condition for the centralizer of $R$ in $A$ to be commutative, and give examples of TGWAs associated to symmetric Cartan matrices satisfying this condition. By imposing a certain finiteness condition on $R$ (weaker than Noetherianity) we are able to make an Ore localization which turns out to be useful when investigating simplicity of the TGWA. Under this mild assumption we…
Monogeny classes and epigeny classes have proved to be useful in the study of direct sums of uniserial modules and other classes of modules. In this paper, we show that they also turn out to be useful in the study of direct products.
Let A be a finite dimensional algebra over an algebraically closed field with the radical nilpotent of index 2. It is shown that A has finitely many conjugacy classes of left ideals if and only if A is of finite representation type provided that all simple A-modules have dimension at least 6. This is a revised version.
In this paper we classify graded reflexive ideals, up to isomorphism and shift, in certain three dimensional Artin-Schelter regular algebras. This classification is similar to the classification of right ideals in the first Weyl algebra, a problem that was completely settled recently. The situation we consider is substantially more complicated however.
We study the structure of a metric $n$-Lie algebra $\mathcal {G}$ over the complex field $\mathbb C$. Let $\mathcal {G}= \mathcal S\oplus {\mathcal R}$ be the Levi decomposition, where $\mathcal R$ is the radical of $\mathcal {G}$ and $\mathcal S$ is a strong semisimple subalgebra of $\mathcal {G}$. Denote by $m(\mathcal {G})$ the number of all minimal ideals of an indecomposable metric $n$-Lie algebra and $\mathcal R^\bot$ the orthogonal complement of $R$. We obtain the following results. As $\mathcal S$-modules, $\mathcal R^{\bot}$ is isomorphic to the dual module of $\mathcal {G} / \mathcal…
We investigate, using the notion of linear quotients, significative classes of connected graphs whose monomial edge ideals, not necessarily squarefree, have linear resolution, in order to compute standard algebraic invariants of the polynomial ring related to these graphs modulo such ideals. Moreover we are able to determine the structure of the ideals of vertex covers for the edge ideals associated to the previous classes of graphs which can have loops on any vertex. Lastly, it is showed that these ideals are of linear type.
