In this study, the momentum-kick model is used to understand the ridge behaviours in dihadron $Δη$--$Δφ$ correlations recently reported by the LHC in high-multiplicity proton-proton (pp) collisions. The kick stand model is based on a momentum kick by leading jets to partons in the medium close to the leading jets. The medium where partons move freely is assumed in the model regardless of collision systems. This helps us apply the method to small systems like pp collisions in a simple way. Also, the momentum transfer is purely kinematic and this provides us a strong way to approach the ridge behaviour analytically. There are already several results with this approach in high-energy heavy-ion collisions from the STAR and PHENIX at RHIC and from the CMS at LHC. The momentum-kick model is extended to the recent ridge results in high-multiplicity pp collisions with the ATLAS and CMS at LHC. The medium property in high-multiplicity pp collisions is diagnosed with the result of the model.
The near-side ridge structure in the (Delta phi)-(Delta eta) correlation observed by the CMS Collaboration for pp collisions at 7 TeV at LHC can be explained by the momentum kick model in which the ridge particles are medium partons that suffer a collision with the jet and acquire a momentum kick along the jet direction. Similar to the early medium parton momentum distribution obtained in previous analysis for nucleus-nucleus collisions at 0.2 TeV, the early medium parton momentum distribution in pp collisions at 7 TeV exhibits a rapidity plateau as arising from particle production in a flux t…
The final state hadronic composition of proton-proton collisions at 7 TeV as a function of charged particle multiplicity density is studied. The thermal model is adjusted to match the experimental conditions in order to understand the effect of the experimental cuts on rapidity and multiplicity. This study indicates that the measured hadronic composition under a simultaneous cut on rapidity and multiplicity does not coincide with the fireball hadronic composition. Excluding proton to pion ratio, the adjusted model can explain the measured particle ratios. Therefore, the observed strangeness en…
We explore the possibility of observing elliptic flow in low multiplicity events in central pp collisions at LHC energy, $\sqrt{s}$=14 TeV. It is assumed that the initial interactions produces a number of hot spots. Hydrodynamical evolution of two or more hot spots can generate sufficiently large elliptic flow to be accessible experimentally in 4-th order cumulant analysis.
We study $J/Ψ$ absorption in high multiplicity proton-proton (pp) collisions at $\sqrt {s_{NN}}=7\,$TeV. We predict a modification of the $J/Ψ$-yield within the UrQMD transport approach, where explicit interactions of the $J/Ψ$ with the surrounding comovers and a prehadronic phase with adjusted cross sections and $J/Ψ$ melting is included. We present the analog of the nuclear modification factor in pp collisions at various charged particle multiplicities. It turns out that $J/Ψ$-Mesons may be suppressed towards higher particle multiplicities in pp collisions at LHC energies.
In Israel-Stewart's theory of dissipative hydrodynamics, we have analyzed the recent ALICE data for the centrality dependence of charged particle multiplicity, centrality dependence of integrated elliptic flow and 0-5% charged particles $p_T$ spectra in $\sqrt{s}_{NN}$=2.76 TeV Pb+Pb collisions and determined the initial or the thermalisation time. Analysis indicate that the ALICE data disfavor very early thermalsiation $τ_i$=0.2 fm, or very late thermalsation $τ_i$= 4fm. Data are best explained for thermalisation time $τ_i=0.88^{-0.14}_{+0.68}$ fm.
An analysis is made of the particle composition in the final state of $pp$ collisions at 7 TeV as a function of the charged particle multiplicity ($dN_{ch}/dη$). The thermal model is used to determine the chemical freeze-out temperature as well as the radius and strangeness suppression factor $γ_s$. Three different ensembles are used in the analysis. The grand canonical ensemble, the canonical ensemble with exact strangeness conservation and the canonical ensemble with exact baryon number, strangeness and electric charge conservation. It is shown that for the highest multiplicity class the thr…
The measured charged particle multiplicity distribution in the forward rapidity region of the p$-$p collisions at $\sqrt{s}$ = 0.9 TeV, 7 TeV and 8 TeV at the LHC have been described using the Weibull distribution function. The higher order (up to $5^{th}$ order ) normalized moments and the factorial moments are also calculated using the extracted parameters. The multiplicity distributions in forward region are observed to be well described by the Weibull regularity and the higher order moment calculations confirm the violation of KNO scaling that has been observed at mid-rapidity and lower en…
Using a fluid dynamical scenario for $pp$ scattering at 7 TeV, we compute correlation functions for $π^+π^+$ pairs. Femtoscopic radii are extracted based on three-dimensional parametrizations of the correlation functions. We study the radii as a function of the transverse momenta of the pairs, for different multiplicity classes, corresponding to recent experimental results from ALICE. We find the same decrease of the radii with $k_T$, more and more pronounced with increasing multiplicity, but absent for the lowest multiplicities. In the model we understand this as transition from string expans…
In the previous paper we have argued that the LHC data on multiplicity, average transverse momentum, and charged particle transverse momentum distributions are well described with minimal modeling in terms of a saturation scale Q_sat(s). As a consequence, the p_T spectra should exhibit geometric scaling. In this short note we show that recently released CMS data at sqrt{s}=0.9, 2.36 and 7 TeV fall on a universal curve when plotted in terms of suitably defined scaling variable τ.
The multiplicity, average transverse momentum, and charged particle transverse momentum distributions have recently been measured in LHC experiments. The multiplicity and average transverse momentum grow with beam energy. Such growth is expected in the theory of the Color Glass Condensate, a theory that incorporates the physics of saturation into the evolution of the gluon distribution. We show that the energy dependence of the $p\overline{p}$ data and the LHC data for $pp$ scattering at \sqrt{s} > 200 GeV may be simply described using a minimal amount of model input. Such a description uses p…
We present predictions of the mean multiplicity yields for different centrality classes of Pb-Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s} = 5.02$ TeV at the LHC, obtained using the Monte-Carlo Modified Glauber model (MGM) [1]. Contrary to generally used standard Glauber calculations, the MGM takes into account the energy conservation in the soft particles production. The only one efficient model parameter was tuned and fixed previously (k=0.35) by fitting the available data on multiplicity for all colliding systems up to RHIC energies. The MGM has shown already a good predictive capability for the yields at $\…
The spatial configuration of initial partons in high-multiplicity proton-proton scatterings at 14 TeV is assumed as three randomly positioned "hot spots". The parton momentum distribution in the hot spots is calculated by HIJING2.0 with some modifications. This initial condition causes not only large eccentricity $ε_2$ but also triangularity $ε_3$ and the correlation of $ε_2-ε_3$ event-plane angles. The final elliptic flow $v_2$, triangular flow $v_3$, and the correlation of $v_2-v_3$ event-plane angles are calculated by using the parton cascade model BAMPS to simulate the space-time parton ev…
Effects of strong longitudinal color fields (SCF) on the identified (anti)particle transverse momentum ($p_T$) distributions in $ pp$ collision at $\sqrt{s}$ = 7 TeV are investigated within the framework of the {\small HIJING/BB v2.0} model. The comparison with the experiment is performed in terms of the correlation between mean transverse momentum ($\langle p_t\rangle$) and multiplicity (N$_{ch}^*$) of charged particles at central rapidity, as well as the ratios of the $p_T$ distributions to the one corresponding to the minimum bias (MB) pp collisions at the same energy, each of them normaliz…
We study the influence of the meson cloud of the nucleon on predictions of the Monte Carlo Glauber model for the charged particle multiplicity density at mid-rapidity in $AA$ collisions. We find that for central $AA$ collisions the meson cloud can increase the multiplicity density by $\sim 16-18$\%. The meson-baryon Fock component reduces the required fraction of the binary collisions by a factor of $\sim 2$ for Au+Au collisions at $\sqrt{s}=0.2$ TeV and $\sim 1.5$ for Pb+Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s}=2.76$ TeV.
Semi-inclusive transverse momentum spectra observed in proton-proton and proton-lead nuclear collisions at LHC energies obey a geometric scaling with a scaling variable using multiplicity-dependent saturation momentum. The saturation momentum extracted from the experimental data is proportional to the 1/6 power of the hadron multiplicity in the final state. On the other hand, the system's transverse size is proportional to the 1/3 power of the multiplicity, and the saturation momentum and the transverse size of the system are strongly correlated with the hadron multiplicity in the final state.…
We analyse the transverse momentum $p_{\mathrm{T}}$ spectra of strange particles \Kslxi produced in $\textsf{Pb+Pb}$ collision at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}= 2.76$ TeV, $\textsf{p+Pb}$ collision at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}= 5.02$ TeV, and $\textsf{p+p}$ collision at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}= 7$ TeV in different multiplicity events measured by the \textit{CMS} experiment at the Large Hadron Collider. The $p_{\mathrm{T}}$ spectra of strange particles are fitted by Tsallis statistics and Boltzmann statistics, respectively. The fitting parameters are studied as a function of the multiplicity events for all systems. The Tsallis t…
We briefly summarize our recent study on the number of constituent quark (NCQ) scaling of hadron elliptic flows in high multiplicity p-Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}=$ 5.02 TeV. With the inclusion of hadron production via the quark coalescence model at intermediate $p_T$, the viscous hydrodynamics at low $p_T$, and jet fragmentation at high $p_T$, our $Hydro-Coal-Frag$ model provides a nice description of the $p_T$-spectra and differential elliptic flow $v_2(p_T)$ of pions, kaons and protons over the $p_T$ range from 0 to 6 GeV. Our results demonstrate that including the quark coalescence is …
The ALICE data on light flavor hadron production obtained in $p-Pb$ collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}} $ = 5.02 TeV are studied in the thermal model using the canonical approach with exact strangeness conservation. The chemical freeze-out temperature is independent of centrality except for the lowest multiplicity bin, with values close to 160 MeV but consistent with those obtained in $Pb-Pb$ collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}$ = 2.76 TeV. The value of the strangeness non-equilibrium factor $γ_s$ is slowly increasing with multiplicity from 0.9 to 0.96, i.e. it is always very close to full chemical equilibr…
We analyze high multiplicity proton-proton ($pp$) collision data at the energies $\sqrt{s}=900$ GeV, $2.76$ TeV and $7$ TeV in the framework of the String Percolation Model (SPM) in terms of the ratio of shear viscosity and entropy density ($η/s$) showing that the model allows the formation of strongly interacting collective medium in the high energy and high multiplicity events in p-p collisions.
We study modification of the photon-tagged and inclusive jets in $pp$ collisions at $\sqrt{s}=7$ TeV due to mini-quark-gluon plasma which can be produced in high multiplicity events. We show that for underlying events with $dN_{ch}/dη\sim 20-60$ the medium effects lead to a considerable modification of the photon-tagged and inclusive jet fragmentation functions. For inclusive jets the magnitude of the effect is surprisingly large. The effect is quite strong even for typical underlying events. We find that at $\sqrt{s}=7$ TeV the spectrum of charged hadrons is suppressed by $\sim 35-40$ % at $p…
Small system collectivity observed at the LHC energies along with enhancement of strangeness makes high-multiplicity proton+proton (pp) collisions very interesting in order to look for QGP-like features, usually found in heavy-ion collisions. It may be interesting to perform a double differential study of different observables in pp collisions in terms of charged particle multiplicity and event shape in order to understand the new dimensions in high-multiplicity pp physics. We study the correlation between the number of multi-partonic interactions (nMPI), event shape (transverse spherocity) an…
The collision system and multiplicity dependence of chemical freeze-out temperature ($T_{\rm ch}$) and strangeness saturation factor ($γ_{s}$) are obtained by studying the particle ratios at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) energies. Here, we consider the new results in pp at 13 TeV, p+Pb at $\sqrt{s_{\rm NN}}$ = 5.02 TeV, Xe+Xe at $\sqrt{s_{\rm NN}}$ = 5.44 TeV and Pb+Pb at $\sqrt{s_{\rm NN}}$ = 5.02 TeV along with the earlier results in pp at $\sqrt{s}$ = 7 TeV and Pb+Pb at $\sqrt{s_{\rm NN}}$ = 2.76 TeV. A statistical thermal model is used to extract the chemical freeze-out parameters in dif…
We investigate the role of partonic degrees of freedom in high multiplicity p-Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}=$ 5.02 TeV carried out at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) by studying the production and collective flow of identified hadrons at intermediate $p_T$ via the coalescence of soft and hard partons generated from viscous hydrodynamics (VISH2+1) and the energy loss model (LBT), respectively. We find that combining the intermediate $p_T$ hadrons from the coalescence with the low $p_T$ hadrons from hydrodynamics and high $p_T$ hadrons from the jet fragmentation, our Hydro-Coal-Frag model prov…
The event-shape and multiplicity dependence of the chemical freeze-out temperature ($T_{\text{ch}}$), freeze-out radius ($R$), and strangeness saturation factor ($γ_{s}$) are obtained by studying the particle yields from the PYTHIA8 Monte Carlo event generator in proton-proton (pp) collisions at the centre-of-mass $\sqrt{s}$ = 13 TeV. Spherocity is one of the transverse event-shape techniques to distinguish jetty and isotropic events in high-energy collisions and helps in looking into various observables in a more differential manner. In this study, spherocity~classes are divided into three ca…
The transverse momentum ($p_{\rm T}$) spectra in proton-proton collisions at $\sqrt{s}$ = 7 TeV, measured by the ALICE experiment at the LHC are analyzed with a thermodynamically consistent Tsallis distribution. The information about the freeze-out surface in terms of freeze-out volume, temperature and the non-extenisivity parameter, $q$, for $K^{0}_{S}$, $Λ+\barΛ$, $Ξ^{-}+\barΞ^{+}$ and $Ω^{-}+\barΩ^{+}$ are extracted by fitting the $p_{\rm T}$ spectra with Tsallis distribution function. The freeze-out parameters of these particles are studied as a function of charged particle multiplicity de…
We present a Bayesian method to reconstruct event-by-event multiplicity fluctuations and rapidity correlations in p+Pb collisions at zero impact parameter from minimum-bias data, without assuming any model of the collision dynamics. We test it on Monte Carlo simulations with the Angantyr model, then apply it to ATLAS data on the distribution of charged multiplicity and transverse energy in p+Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\rm NN}}=5.02$ TeV. Fluctuations in $b=0$ collisions are quantum fluctuations which originate mostly from the proton wave function, and therefore have the potential to constrain …
Recent observations of QGP-like conditions in high-multiplicity pp collisions from ALICE experiment at the LHC warrants an introspection whether to use pp collisions as a baseline measurement to characterize heavy-ion collisions for possible formation of a Quark-Gluon Plasma. A double differential study of the particle spectra and thermodynamics of the produced system as a function of charged-particle multiplicity and transverse spherocity in pp collisions would shed light into the underlying event dynamics. Transverse spherocity, one of the event shape observables, allows to separate the even…
Heavy-flavored hadrons are unique probes to study the properties of hot and dense QCD medium produced in ultra-relativistic heavy-ion collisions at RHIC and the LHC. Transverse spherocity is one of the event-topology variables used to separate jetty and isotropic events from the pool of event samples. This study aims to understand the production dynamics of heavy-flavors through the transverse momentum spectra, double differential yield and mean transverse momentum of J/$ψ$, $\rm D^{0}$ and $Λ_{c}^{+}$ as a function of charged-particle multiplicity and transverse spherocity. Further to investi…
In this paper we report the effect of the jet-medium interplay as implemented in EPOS 3 on the ridge like structure observed in high multiplicity p-Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}} = $ 5.02 TeV. EPOS 3 takes into account hydrodynamically expanding bulk matter, jets and the jet-medium interaction. The basis of this model is multiple scatterings where each scattering finally produces flux tube / string. In the higher multiplicity event classes where the flux tube/string density is higher, there is a finite probability that the strings will pick up quarks and antiquarks (or diquarks) from the bulk…
In a recent article (arXiv:1210.3890), we showed that high multiplicity di-hadron proton- proton (p+p) data from the CMS experiment are in excellent agreement with computations in the Color Glass Condensate (CGC) Effective Field Theory (EFT). This agreement of the theory with several hundred data points provides a non-trivial description of both nearside ("ridge") and away-side azimuthal collimations of long range rapidity correlations in p+p collisions. Our prediction in arXiv:1210.3890 for proton-lead (p+Pb) collisions is consistent with results from the recent CMS p+Pb run at $\sqrt{s}_{\rm…
We analyse the transverse momentum ($p_{\rm T}$)-spectra as a function of charged-particle multiplicity at midrapidity ($|y| < 0.5$) for various identified particles such as $π^{\pm}$, $K^{\pm}$, $K_S^0$, $p+\overline{p}$, $ϕ$, $K^{*0} + \overline {K^{*0}}$, and $Λ$ + $\barΛ$ in proton-proton collisions at $\sqrt{s}$ = 7 TeV using Boltzmann-Gibbs Blast Wave (BGBW) model and thermodynamically consistent Tsallis distribution function. We obtain the multiplicity dependent kinetic freeze-out temperature ($T_{\rm kin}$) and radial flow ($β$) of various particles after fitting the $p_{\rm T}$-distri…
In order to understand the detailed dynamics of systems produced in $pp$ collisions, it is essential to know about the Equation of State (EoS) and various thermodynamic properties. In this work, we study the shear viscosity to entropy density ratio, isothermal compressibility and speed of sound of the system by considering a differential freeze-out scenario. We have used a thermodynamically consistent Tsallis non-extensive statistics to have a better explanation for the dynamics of $pp$ collision systems. While the shear viscosity to entropy density ratio provides information about the measure…
