We study a three-dimensional chiral second order topological insulator (SOTI) subject to a magnetic field. Via its gauge field, the applied magnetic field influences the electronic motion on the lattice, and via the Zeeman effect, the field influences the electronic spin. We compare two approaches to the problem: an effective surface theory, and a full lattice calculation. The surface theory predicts a massive Dirac spectrum on each of the gapped surfaces, giving rise to Landau levels once the surfaces are pierced by magnetic flux. The surface theory qualitatively agrees with our lattice calculations, accurately predicting the surface gap as well as the spin and orbital components of the states at the edges of the surface Dirac bands. In the context of the lattice theory, we calculate the spectrum with and without magnetic field and find a deviation from the surface theory when a gauge field is applied. The energy of the lowest-lying Landau level is found closer to zero than is predicted by the surface theory, which leads to an observable magnetotransport signature: inside the surface gap, there exist different energy regions where either one or two chiral hinge modes propagate in either direction, quantizing the differential conductance to either one or two conductance quanta.
The chiral anomaly-induced negative magnetoresistance and non-trivial Berry phase are two fundamental transport properties associated with the topological properties of Weyl fermions. In this work, we report the quantum transport of TaP single crystals in magnetic field up to 31T. Through the analyses of our magnetotransport data, we show TaP has the signatures of a Weyl state, including light effective quasiparticle masses, ultrahigh carrier mobility, as well as negative longitudinal magnetoresistance. Furthermore, we have generalized the Lifshitz-Kosevich formula for Shubnikov-de Haas (SdH) …
The beating pattern of Shubnikov-de Haas oscillations in 2D electron system in the presence of a Rashba zero-field spin splitting is reproduced. It is shown, taking into account the Zeeman splitting, that the explicit formulae for the node position well describes the experimental data. The spin-orbit interaction strength obtained is found to be magnetic field independent in an agreement with the basic assumptions of the Rashba model.
We theoretically study the band structure and the electronic transport in the Weyl semimetal nanowires in magnetic fields, and demonstrate that the interplay of the Fermi-arc surface states and the bulk Landau levels plays a crucial role in the magnetotransport. We show that a magnetic field perpendicular to the surface immediately hybridizes the counter-propagating surface modes into a series of dispersionless 0th Landau levels, and it leads to a significant reduction of the traveling modes and a rapid decay of the conductance. On the contrary, a magnetic field parallel to the wire adds linea…

We theoretically address the effects of strong magnetic fields in three-dimensional Weyl semimetals (WSMs) built out of Weyl nodes with a monopole charge $n$. For $n=1$, $2$, and $3$ we realize single, double, and triple WSM, respectively, and the monopole charge $n$ determines the integer topological invariant of the WSM. Within the linearized continuum description, the quasiparticle spectrum is then composed of Landau levels (LLs), containing exactly $n$ number of chiral zeroth Landau levels (ZLLs), irrespective of the orientation of the magnetic field. In the presence of strong backscatteri…
We have measured high frequency magnetotransport of a high quality two-dimensional electron system (2DES) near the reentrant insulating phase (RIP) at Landau fillings ($ν$) between 1/5 and 2/9. The magneto\textit{conductivity} in the RIP has resonant behavior around 150 MHz, showing a \textit{peak} at $ν$$\sim$0.21. Our data support the interpretation of the RIP as due to some pinned electron solid. We have also investigated a narrowly confined 2DES recently found to have a RIP at 1/3$<$$ν$$<$1/2 and we have revealed features, not seen in DC transport, that suggest some intriguing interplay be…
Graphene on hexagonal boron-nitride (h-BN) is an atomically flat conducting system that is ideally suited for probing the effect of Zeeman splitting on electron transport. We demonstrate by magneto-transport measurements that a parallel magnetic field up to 30 Tesla does not affect the transport properties of graphene on h-BN even at charge neutrality where such an effect is expected to be maximal. The only magnetoresistance detected at low carrier concentrations is shown to be associated with a small perpendicular component of the field which cannot be fully eliminated in the experiment. Desp…
Landau levels of AB-stacked four- to six-layer graphene were studied experimentally in the presence of a perpendicular electric field. The Landau levels at a low magnetic field showed a characteristic structure that originated from the mini-Dirac cones created by the perpendicular electric fields. Six-fold or twelve-fold degenerate Landau levels arising from the mini-Dirac cones were observed in the vicinity of the charge neutrality point as a radial structure in a plot of their Landau fan diagrams. The structure of four-layer graphene had approximate electron-hole symmetry near the charge neu…
The transport in double-barrier heterostructures of electrons interacting with longitudinal optical phonons in the presence of parallel electric and magnetic fields is analyzed theoretically with the aid of a 3-dimensional quantum transport simulator. Inter Landau state transitions induced by LO-phonon scattering-assisted resonant-tunneling is shown to be an important process with a probability comparable to that of intra Landau state scattering. Analysis of the current-voltage characteristics reveals also that the current peak is a periodic function of the inverse of the magnetic field, with …
Coherent electron transport in double-barrier heterostructures with parallel electric and magnetic fields is analyzed theoretically and with the aid of a quantum simulator accounting for 3-dimensional transport effects. The onset-voltage shift induced by the magnetic field in resonant tunneling diodes, which was previously attributed to the cyclotron frequency $w_c$ inside the well is found to arise from an upward shift of the non-zero ground (lowest) Landau state energy in the entire quantum region where coherent transport takes place. The spatial dependence of the cyclotron frequency is acco…
We investigate the magnetotransport properties of a two-dimensional electron gas with anisotropic k-cubic Rashba interaction at the $\rm{LaAlO_3}$/$\rm{SrTiO_3}$ interface. The Landau levels and density of states of the system as well as the magnetotransport coefficients are evaluated. A somehow anomalous beating pattern in low magnetic field regime is found both in the density profile and magnetoresistivity. We discuss the impact of electron density, Landau level broadening and Rashba spin-orbit constant on the appearance of the beatings in low magnetic fields and find that at low electron co…
We present a magneto-infrared spectroscopy study on a newly identified three-dimensional (3D) Dirac semimetal ZrTe$_5$. We observe clear transitions between Landau levels and their further splitting under magnetic field. Both the sequence of transitions and their field dependence follow quantitatively the relation expected for 3D \emph{massless} Dirac fermions. The measurement also reveals an exceptionally low magnetic field needed to drive the compound into its quantum limit, demonstrating that ZrTe$_5$ is an extremely clean system and ideal platform for studying 3D Dirac fermions. The splitt…
We review recent work on superlattices in monolayer and bilayer graphene. We highlight the role of the quasiparticle chirality in generating new Dirac fermion modes with tunable anisotropic velocities in one dimensional (1D) superlattices in both monolayer and bilayer graphene. We discuss the structure of the Landau levels and magnetotransport in such superlattices over a wide range of perpendicular (orbital) magnetic fields. In monolayer graphene, we show that an orbital magnetic field can reverse the anisotropy of the transport imposed by the superlattice potential, suggesting possible switc…
We present a systematic investigation of the magnetoreflectance of highly oriented pyrolytic graphite in magnetic field B up to 18 T . From these measurements, we report the determination of lifetimes tau associated with the lowest Landau levels in the quantum limit. We find a linear field dependence for inverse lifetime 1/tau(B) of the lowest Landau levels, which is consistent with the hypothesis of a three-dimensional (3D) to 1D crossover in an anisotropic 3D metal in the quantum limit. This enigmatic result uncovers the origin of the anomalous linear in-plane magnetoresistance observed both…
The strong spin-orbit coupling and the broken inversion symmetry in monolayer transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs) results in spin-valley coupled band structures. Such a band structure leads to novel applications in the fields of electronics and optoelectronics. Density functional theory calculations as well as optical experiments have focused on spin-valley coupling in the valence band. Here we present magnetotransport experiments on high-quality n-type monolayer molybdenum disulphide (MoS$_{2}$) samples, displaying highly resolved Shubnikov-de Haas oscillations at magnetic fields as low a…
This paper presents a theoretical description of both the valley Zeeman effect (g-factors) and Landau levels in two-dimensional H-phase transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs) using the Luttinger-Kohn approximation with spin-orbit coupling. At the valley extrema in TMDs, energy bands split into Landau levels with a Zeeman shift in the presence of a uniform out-of-plane external magnetic field. The Landau level indices are symmetric in the $K$ and $K'$ valleys. We develop a numerical approach to compute the single band g-factors from first principles without the need for a sum over unoccupied b…
Superlattices (SLs) in monolayer and bilayer graphene, formed by spatially periodic potential variations, lead to a modified bandstructure with extra finite-energy and zero-energy Dirac fermions with tunable anisotropic velocities. We theoretically show that transport in a weak perpendicular (orbital) magnetic field allows one to not only probe the number of emergent Dirac points but also yields further information about their dispersion. or monolayer graphene, we find that a moderate magnetic field can lead to a strong reversal of the transport anisotropy imposed by the SL potential, an effec…
We develop a theory of cavity quantum electrodynamics for a two-dimensional electron gas in the presence of Rashba spin-orbit and Zeeman couplings and perpendicular magnetic field, coupled to a spatially nonuniform quantum photon field. We show that the superradiant quantum phase transition (SQPT), also known as photon condensation, can in principle occur through a pure in-plane Zeeman coupling, but it requires extremely small (unrealistic) quantum well widths or extremely fine tuning of the effective Landé factor which makes two Landau levels coincide. Landau level crossings can also be induc…
We study the excess conductance due to the superconducting proximity effect in a ballistic two-dimensional electron system subject to an in-plane magnetic field. We show that under certain conditions the interplay of the Zeeman spin splitting and the effect of a screening supercurrent gives rise to a spin-selective Andreev enhancement of the conductance and anomalies in its voltage, temperature and magnetic field characteristics. The magnetic-field influence on Andreev reflection is discussed in the context of using superconducting hybrid junctions for spin detection.
We present a theoretical study of gap opening in the zeroth Landau level in gapped graphene as a result of pseudo-Zeeman interaction. The applied magnetic field couples with the valley pseudospin degree of freedom of the charge carriers leading to the pseudo-Zeeman interaction. To investigate its role in transport at the Charge Neutrality Point (CNP), we study the integer quantum Hall effect (QHE) in gapped graphene in an angular magnetic field in the presence of pseudo-Zeeman interaction. Analytical expressions are derived for the Hall conductivity using Kubo-Greenwood formula. We also determ…
We present magnetotransport calculations for homogeneous two-dimensional electron systems including the Rashba spin-orbit interaction, which mixes the spin-eigenstates and leads to a modified fan-chart with crossing Landau levels. The quantum mechanical Kubo formula is evaluated by taking into account spin-conserving scatterers in an extension of the self-consistent Born approximation that considers the spin degree of freedom. The calculated conductivity exhibits besides the well-known beating in the Shubnikov-de Haas (SdH) oscillations a modulation which is due to a suppression of scattering …
In Zeeman spectra of a GaAs-AlGaAs quantum wire array with superlattice period lp, the zero-field shift is found to increase in steps of (2 pi hbar/ e)lp^{-2} at the cyclotron radius Rc ~lp, lp/2, and lp/3. This shift, caused by spin-Landau orbit coupling and quantized in units of the flux quantum 2 pi hbar /e,is a manifestation of the gauge invariance, and the first observation of the flux quantization in a non-superconducting material. The quantum interference associated with the phase difference in the quantum barrier scattering is also reported.
In honeycomb Dirac systems with broken inversion symmetry, orbital magnetic moments coupled to the valley degree of freedom arise due to the topology of the band structure, leading to valley-selective optical dichroism. On the other hand, in Dirac systems with prominent spin-orbit coupling, similar orbital magnetic moments emerge as well. These moments are coupled to spin, but otherwise have the same functional form as the moments stemming from spatial inversion breaking. After reviewing the basic properties of these moments, which are relevant for a whole set of newly discovered materials, su…
The quantum oscillations of nonlinear magnetoresistance in graphene that occurs in response to a dc current bias are investigated. We present a theoretical model for the nonlinear magnetotransport of graphene carriers. The model is based on the exact solution of the effective Dirac equation in crossed electric and magnetic fields, while the effects of randomly distributed impurities are perturbatively added. To compute the nonlinear current we develop a covariant formulation of the migration center theory. The analysis of the differential resistivity in the large magnetic field region, shows t…
The polymorph of ${\rm 8-Pmmn}$ borophene is an anisotropic Dirac material with tilted Dirac cones at two valleys. The tilting of the Dirac cones at two valleys are in opposite direction, which manifests itself via valley dependent Landau levels in presence of an in-plane electric field (Hall field). The sensitivity of the Landau levels on valley index causes valley polarized magnetotransport properties in presence of a Hall field, which is in contrast to the monolayer graphene with isotropic non-tilted Dirac cones. The longitudinal conductivity and Hall conductivity are evaluated by using lin…
The 3D- and 2D- behaviour of wide parabolic PbTe single quantum wells, which consist of PbTe p-n-p-structures, are studied theoretically and experimentally. A simple model combines the 2D- subband levels and the 3D-Landau levels in order to calculate the density of states in a magnetic field perpendicular to the 2D plane. It is shown that at a channel width of about 300nm on can expect to observe 3D- and 2D-behaviour at the same time. Magnetotransport experiments in selectively contacted Hall bar samples are performed at temperatures down to T = 50 mK and at magnetic fields up to B = 17 T.
Spin current of two-dimensional holes occupying the ground-state subband in an asymmetric quantum well and interacting with static disorder potential is calculated in the presence of a weak magnetic field H perpendicular to the well plane. Both spin-orbit coupling and Zeeman coupling are taken into account. It is shown that the applied electric field excites both the transverse (spin-Hall) and diagonal spin currents, the latter changes its sign at a finite H and becomes greater than the spin-Hall current as H increases. The effective spin-Hall conductivity introduced to describe the spin respo…
The eigen energy and the conductivity of a graphene sheet subject to a one-dimensional cosinusoidal potential and in the presence of a magnetic field are calculated. Such a graphene superlattice presents three distinct magnetic miniband structures as the magnetic field increases. They are, respectively, the triply degenerate Landau level spectrum, the nondegenerate minibands with finite dispersion and the same Landau level spectrum with the pristine graphene. The ratio of the magnetic length to the period of the potential function is the characteristic quantity to determine the electronic stru…
Rippling is an inherent quality of two-dimensional materials playing an important role in determining their properties. Here, we study the effect of structural corrugations on the electronic and transport properties of monolayer black phosphorus (phosphorene) in the presence of tilted magnetic field. We follow a perturbative approach to obtain analytical corrections to the spectrum of Landau levels induced by a long-wavelength corrugation potential. We show that surface corrugations have a non-negligible effect on the electronic spectrum of phosphorene in tilted magnetic field. Particularly, t…
At half filling of the fourfold degenerate Landau levels |n| \geq 1 in graphene, the ground states are spin polarized quantum Hall states that support spin skyrmion excitations for |n| =1,2,3. Working in the Hartree-Fock approximation, we compute the excitation energy of an unbound spin skyrmion-antiskyrmion excitation as a function of the Zeeman coupling strength for these Landau levels. We find for both the bare and screened Coulomb interactions that the spin skyrmion-antiskyrmion excitation energy is lower than the excitation energy of an unbound spin 1/2 electron-hole pair in a finite rang…
The band structure and magnetotransport of a two-dimensional electron gas (2DEG), in the presence of the Rashba (RSOI) and Dresselhaus (DSOI) terms of the spin-orbit interaction and of a perpendicular magnetic field, is investigated. Exact and approximate analytical expressions for the band structure are obtained and used to calculate the density of states (DOS) and the longitudinal magnetoresitivity assuming a Gaussian type of level broadening. The interplay between the Zeeman coupling and the two terms of the SOI is discussed. If the strengths $α$ and $ β$, of the RSOI and DSOI, respectively…
In this paper the 3D- and 2D- behavior of wide quantum wells which consist of one period of a PbTe nipi-structure is studied theoretically and experimentally. A simple model combines the 2D- subband levels and the 3D-Landau levels in order to calculate the density of states in a magnetic field perpendicular to the 2D plane. It is shown that at a channel width of about 500 nm on can expect to observe 3D- and 2D-behavior at the same time. Finally the general design aspects for PbTe wide quantum wells are discussed.
In the presence of spin-orbit coupling two branches of the energy spectrum of 2D electrons get shifted in the momentum space. Application of in-plane magnetic field causes the splitting of the branches in energy. When both, spin-orbit coupling and Zeeman splitting are present, the branches of energy spectrum cross at certain energy. Near this energy, the Landau quantization becomes peculiar since semiclassical trajectories, corresponding to individual branches, get coupled. We study this coupling as a function of proximity to the topological transition. Remarkably, the dependence on the proxim…
We first derive the energy dispersion of bilayer MoS$_{2}$ in the presence of a perpendicular electric field $E_z$. We show that the band gap and layer splitting can be controlled by the field $E_z$. Away from the $k$ point, the intrinsic SOC splitting increases in the conduction band but is weakly affected in the valence band. We then analyze the band structure in the presence of a perpendicular magnetic field $B$ and the field $E_z$, including spin and valley Zeeman terms, and evaluate the Hall and longitudinal conductivities. We discuss the numerical results as functions of the fields $B$ a…
We theoretically study the anisotropic magnetotransport in Dirac-Weyl magnetic junctions where a doped ferromagnetic Weyl semimetal is sandwiched between doped Dirac semimetals. We calculate the conductance using the Landauer formula and find that the system exhibits extraordinarily large anisotropic magnetoresistance (AMR). The AMR depends on the ratio of the Fermi energy and the strength of the exchange interaction. The origin of the AMR is the shift of the Fermi surface in the Weyl semimetal and the mechanism is completely different from the conventional AMR originating from the spin depend…
Magnetic-field-induced phase transitions in the integer quantum Hall effect are studied under the formation of paired Landau bands arising from Zeeman spin splitting. By investigating features of modular symmetry, we showed that modifications to the particle-hole transformation should be considered under the coupling between the paired Landau bands. Our study indicates that such a transformation should be modified either when the Zeeman gap is much smaller than the cyclotron gap, or when these two gaps are comparable.
The Schrödinger equation for an electron in a mesoscopic ring, in the presence of the Rashba and linear Dresselhaus terms of the spin-orbit interaction (SOI) and of a magnetic field $B$, is solved exactly. The effective electric fields of these terms as well as $B$ have perpendicular and radial components. The interplay between them and $B$ and their influence on the spectrum is studied. The transmission through such a ring, with two leads connected to it, is evaluated as a function of the SOI strengths and of the orientations of these fields. The Rashba and Dresselhaus terms affect the transm…
The article shows a simple model that computes the magnetoconduction and the integer quantum Hall effect (IQHE) in a two-dimensional electron system (2DES) where the spin is other degree of freedom in the system. The 2DES is confined in a quantum well (QW) immersed in a heterostructure, where the Rashba spin-orbit interaction is present. When an external magnetic field is applied to the system, the competition between the spin-orbit interaction and the Zeeman effect on the magnetoconduction of the 2DES is analysed. Also the model reproduces the case where two sub-bands are occupied in the QW. …
We study the magnetotransport of high-mobility electrons in monolayer and bilayer MoSe$_2$, which show Shubnikov-de Haas (SdH) oscillations and quantum Hall states in high magnetic fields. An electron effective mass of 0.8$m_e$ is extracted from the SdH oscillations' temperature dependence; $m_e$ is the bare electron mass. At a fixed electron density the longitudinal resistance shows minima at filling factors (FFs) that are either predominantly odd, or predominantly even, with a parity that changes as the density is tuned. The SdH oscillations are insensitive to an in-plane magnetic field, con…
Single spin state evolution induced by the Landau-Zener-Stückelberg-Majorana (LZSM) interference in a Zeeman-spit four level system in a periodically driven double quantum dot is studied theoretically by the Floquet stroboscopic method. An interplay between spin-conserving and spin-flip tunneling processes with the Electric Dipole Spin Resonance (EDSR) that is induced in an individual dot and enhanced by the LZSM multiple level crossings with the neighboring quantum dot is investigated as a function of the microwave (MW) frequency, driving amplitude, interdot detuning, and magnetic field. A nu…
We study a two-dimensional electron system in the presence of both Rashba and Dresselhaus spin-orbit interactions in a perpendicular magnetic field. Defining two suitable boson operators and using the unitary transformations we are able to obtain the exact Landau levels in the range of all the parameters. When the strengths of the Rashba and Dresselhaus spin-orbit interactions are equal, a new analytical solution for the vanishing Zeeman energy is found, where the orbital and spin wave functions of electron are separated. It is also shown that in this case the Zeeman and spin-orbit splittings …
We consider the transport properties in an applied magnetic field of the spin S=1/2 Kondo model with ferromagnetic exchange coupling to electronic reservoirs, a description relevant for the strong coupling limit of underscreened spin S=1 Kondo impurities. Because the ferromagnetic Kondo interaction is marginally irrelevant, perturbative methods should prove accurate down to low energies. For the purpose of this study, we use a combination of Majorana diagrammatic theory with Density Matrix Numerical Renormalization Group simulations. In the standard case of antiferromagnetic Kondo exchange, we…
Internodal dynamics of quasiparticles in Weyl semimetals manifest themselves in hydrodynamic, transport and thermodynamic phenomena and are essential for potential valleytronic applications of these systems. In an external magnetic field, coherent quasiparticle tunnelling between the nodes modifies the quasiparticle dispersion and, in particular, opens gaps in the dispersion of quasiparticles at the zeroth Landau level. We study magnetotransport in a Weyl semimetal taking into account mechanisms of quasiparticle scattering both affected by such gaps and independent of them. We compute the long…
We present a theoretical study on the spin-dependent transport through a spin valve consisting of graphene sandwiched between two magnetic leads with an arbitrary orientation of the lead magnetization. No gate voltage is applied. Using Keldysh's nonequilibrium Green's function method we show that, in absence of external magnetic fields, the current-voltage curves are nonlinear. Around zero bias the differential conductance versus bias voltage possesses a strong dip. The zero-bias anomaly in the tunnel magnetoresistance (TMR) is affected strongly by the leads spin polarization. Depending on the…
We study magnetotransport in a disordered Weyl semimetal taking into account localization effects exactly. In the vicinity of a Weyl node, a single chiral Landau level coexists with a number of conventional non-chiral levels. Disorder scattering mixes these topologically different modes leading to peculiar localization effects. We derive the average conductance as well as the full distribution function of transmission probabilities along the field direction. Remarkably, we find that localization of the non-chiral modes is greatly enhanced in a strong magnetic field with the typical localizatio…
We report complex magnetotransport patterns of the $ν=1$ integer quantum Hall state in a GaAs/AlGaAs sample from the newest generation with a record high electron mobility. The reentrant integer quantum Hall effect in the flanks of the $ν=1$ plateau indicates the formation of the integer quantum Hall Wigner solid, a collective insulator. Moreover, at a fixed filling factor, the longitudinal resistance versus temperature in the region of the integer quantum Hall Wigner solid exhibits a sharp peak. Such sharp peaks in the longitudinal resistance versus temperature so far were only detected for b…
We have proposed a fully quantum approach to non-perturbatively calculate the spin-split Landau levels and g-factor of various spin-orbit coupled solids, based on the k.p theory in the matrix mechanics representation. The new method considers the detailed band structure and the multiband effect of spin-orbit coupling irrespective of the magnetic field strength. An application of this method to PbTe, a typical Dirac electron system, is shown. Contrary to popular belief, it is shown that the spin-splitting parameter M, which is the ratio of the Zeeman to cyclotron energy, exhibits a remarkable m…
The (111) surface of SnTe hosts one isotropic $\barΓ$-centered and three degenerate anisotropic $\bar{M}$- centered Dirac surface states. We predict that a nematic phase with spontaneously broken $C_3$ symmetry will occur in the presence of an external magnetic field when the $N=0$ $\bar{M}$ Landau levels are $1/3$ or $2/3$ filled. The nematic state phase boundary is controlled by a competition between intravalley Coulomb interactions that favor a valley-polarized state, and weaker intervalley scattering processes that increase in relative strength with magnetic field. An in-plane Zeeman field…
Magnetotransport measurements are performed in ultraclean (lithographically patterned) graphene nanoribbons down to 70 nm. At high magnetic fields, a fragmentation of the electronic spectrum into a Landau levels pattern with unusual features is unveiled. The singular Landau spectrum reveals large magneto-oscillations of the Fermi energy and valley degeneracy lifting. Quantum simulations suggest some disorder threshold at the origin of mixing between opposite chiral magnetic edge states and disappearance of quantum Hall effect.
We report low temperature magnetotransport measurements on a high mobility (μ=325,000 cm^2/V sec) 2D electron system on a H-terminated Si(111) surface. While low magnetic field data indicate a six-fold valley degenerate system, we observe the integral quantum Hall effect at all filling factors ν<=6 and find that ν=2 develops in an unusually narrow temperature range. An extended, exclusively even numerator, fractional quantum Hall hierarchy occurs surrounding ν=3/2, consistent with two-fold valley-degenerate composite fermions (CFs). We determine activation energies and estimate the CF mass.
