Galactic black hole candidate MAXI~J1348-630 was recently discovered by {\it MAXI} and {\it Swift}/BAT satellites during its first outburst in 2019 January which continued for $\sim4$ months. We study the spectral and timing properties of the source in detail. The combined $1-150$ keV {\it Swift}/XRT, {\it Swift}/BAT and {\it MAXI}/GSC spectra are investigated with the two component advective flow (TCAF) solution. Physical flow parameters of TCAF, such as the Keplerian disk accretion rate, the sub-Keplerian halo accretion rate, the shock location and the shock compression ratio are estimated from our spectral fits. Based on the variation of flux in soft and hard X-ray ranges, the hardness ratio, TCAF model fitted accretion rates and accretion rate ratio (ARR), we show how the sources evolved through four spectral states viz. hard, hard-intermediate, soft-intermediate and soft states in rising and declining states. Low-frequency quasi-periodic oscillations (QPO) are observed in two observations during the rising phase of the outburst. From the spectral analysis, we estimate the mass of the black hole to be $9.1^{+1.6}_{-1.2}$ $M_{\odot}$. We also find that the viscous timescale in this outburst is $\sim 3.5$ days. The distance of the source is also estimated as $5-10$ kpc from state transition luminosity.
With our neutron star crust cooling code {\tt NSCool} we track the thermal evolution of the neutron star in Aql X-1 over the full accretion outburst history from 1996 until 2015. For the first time, we model many outbursts (23 outbursts were detected) collectively and in great detail. This allows us to investigate the influence of previous outbursts on the internal temperature evolution and to test different neutron star crust cooling scenarios. Aql X-1 is an ideal test source for this purpose, because it shows frequent, short outbursts and thermally dominated quiescence spectra. The source go…
The accretion-powered millisecond pulsar IGR J00291+5934 underwent two ~10 d long outbursts during 2008, separated by 30 d in quiescence. Such a short quiescent period between outbursts has never been seen before from a neutron star X-ray transient. X-ray pulsations at the 599 Hz spin frequency are detected throughout both outbursts. For the first time, we derive a pulse phase model that connects two outbursts, providing a long baseline for spin frequency measurement. Comparison with the frequency measured during the 2004 outburst of this source gives a spin-down during quiescence of -4(1)x10^…
Using a theoretical model, we track the thermal evolution of a cooling neutron star crust after an accretion induced heating period with the goal of constraining the crustal parameters. We present for the first time a crust cooling model $-\text{ } NSCool\text{ } -$ that takes into account detailed variability during the full outburst based on the observed light curve. We apply our model to KS 1731-260. The source was in outburst for $\sim$12 years during which it was observed to undergo variations on both long (years) and short (days-weeks) timescales. Our results show that KS 1731-260 does n…
Monitoring the cooling of neutron-star crusts heated during accretion outbursts allows us to infer the physics of the dense matter present in the crust. We examine the crust cooling evolution of the low-mass X-ray binary MXB 1659-29 up to ~505 days after the end of its 2015 outburst (hereafter outburst II) and compare it with what we observed after its previous 1999 outburst (hereafter outburst I) using data obtained from the Swift, XMM-Newton, and Chandra observatories. The observed effective surface temperature of the neutron star in MXB 1659-29 dropped from ~92 eV to ~56 eV from ~12 days to…
We present a model of the non-stationary $α$-disk with account for the irradiation and the vertical convection in the outer accretion disk where hydrogen is partially ionized. We include the viscous energy generation in the mix-length convection equations in accretion disks. The optical and X-ray light curves of X-ray nova A0620-00 are investigated in terms of this model. The turbulent viscosity parameter of the accretion disk is estimated, $α= 0.5 ÷0.6$, which is necessary to explain the luminosity decay rate on the descending branch of the X-ray light curve for the A0620-00 1975 outburst. Th…
The 2015 Outburst of V404 Cygni is an unusual one with several X-ray and radio flares and rapid variation in the spectral and timing properties. The outburst occurred after $26$ years of inactivity of the black hole. We study the accretion flow properties of the source during its initial phase of the outburst using {\it Swift}/XRT and {\it Swift}/BAT data in the energy range of $0.5-150$ keV. We have done spectral analysis with the two-component advective flow (TCAF) model fits file. Several flow parameters such as two types of accretion rates (Keplerian disk and sub-Keplerian halo), shock par…
We present a comprehensive spectral and temporal study of the black hole X-ray transient MAXI J1820+070 during its outbursts in 2018 using Swift/XRT, NICER, NuSTAR and AstroSat observations. The Swift/XRT and NICER spectral study shows a plateau in the light curve with spectral softening (hardness changes from $\sim$ $2.5$ to $2$) followed by a gradual decline without spectral softening during the first outburst. Also, spectral modelling suggests that the first outburst is in the low/hard state throughout with a truncated disk whereas the thermal disk emission dominates during the second outbu…
In our study of the timing properties of few Galactic black hole candidates evolutions of the low and intermediate frequency quasi-periodic oscillations (LIFQPOs) are observed. In 2005, for explaining evolution of QPO frequency during rising phase of 2005 GRO J1655-40 outburst, Chakrabarti and his students introduced a new model, namely propagating oscillatory shock (POS) model. Here we present the results obtained from the same POS model fitted QPO evolutions during both the rising and declining phases of the outbursts of 2005 GRO J165540, 2010-11 GX 339-4, and 2010 & 2011 H 1743-322.
Transient neutron star (NS) LMXBs undergo episodes of accretion, alternated with quiescent periods. During an accretion outburst, the NS heats up due to exothermic accretion-induced processes taking place in the crust. Besides the long-known deep crustal heating of nuclear origin, a likely non-nuclear source of heat, dubbed 'shallow heating', is present at lower densities. Most of the accretion-induced heat slowly diffuses into the core on a timescale of years. Over many outburst cycles, a state of equilibrium is reached when the core temperature is high enough that the heating and cooling (ph…
We study spectral and temporal properties of Galactic short orbital period transient black hole XTE J1118+480 during its 2005 outburst using archival data of RXTE PCA and HEXTE instruments in the combined energy range of $3-100$ keV. Spectral analysis with the physical two-component advective flow (TCAF) model allows us to understand the accretion flow properties of the source. We found that this outburst of XTE J1118+480 is an unconventional outburst as the source was only in the hard state (HS). Our spectral analysis suggests that during the entire outburst, the source was highly dominated b…
We study the dynamical behaviour of the galactic black hole source GX 339-4 during 2002-2011 outbursts using RXTE, Swift(XRT), XMM-Newton(PN) archival data. We present the spectral evolution of the source using four outbursts data and discuss their similarities/differences between outbursts. We infer that the second peak in 2002/03 and 2004/05 outbursts can be due to a second instant of triggered instability in the accretion disc due to irradiation from the central X-ray source after peak-I. This propagates in viscous time scale and takes ~80-90 days after peak-I to produce peak-II. This unifi…
The structure and composition of the crust of neutron stars plays an important role in their thermal and magnetic evolution, hence in setting their observational properties. One way to study the crust properties is to measure how it cools after it has been heated during an accretion outburst in a low-mass X-ray binary (LMXB). Such studies have shown that there is a tantalizing source of heat, of currently unknown origin, that is located in the outer layers of the crust and has a strength that varies between different sources and different outbursts. With the aim of understanding the mechanism …
In this paper, we employ Machine Learning algorithms on multi-mission observations for the classification of accretion states of outbursting Black hole X-ray binaries for the first time. Archival data from RXTE, Swift, MAXI and AstroSat observatories are used to generate the hardness intensity diagrams (HIDs) for outbursts of the sources XTE J1859+226 (1999 outburst), GX 339-4 (2002, 2004, 2007 and 2010 outbursts), IGR J17091-3624 (2016 outburst), and MAXI J1535-571 (2017 outburst). Based on variation of X-ray flux, hardness ratios, presence of various types of Quasi-periodic Oscillations (QPO…

The transient neutron star (NS) low-mass X-ray binary MAXI J0556$-$332 provides a rare opportunity to study NS crust heating and subsequent cooling for multiple outbursts of the same source. We examine {\it MAXI}, {\it Swift}, {\it Chandra}, and {\it XMM-Newton} data of MAXI J0556$-$332 obtained during and after three accretion outbursts of different durations and brightness. We report on new data obtained after outburst III. The source has been tracked up to $\sim$1800 d after the end of outburst I. Outburst I heated the crust strongly, but no significant reheating was observed during outburs…
We study accretion flow dynamics of Galactic transient black hole candidate (BHC) H 1743-322 during its 2010 outburst by analyzing spectral data using Two Component (Keplerian and sub-Keplerian) Advective Flow (TCAF) solution, after its inclusion in XSPEC as a local model. We compare our TCAF solution fitted results with combined disk black body and power-law model fitted results and find a similar smooth variation of thermal (Keplerian or disk black body) and non-thermal (power-law or sub-Keplerian) fluxes/rates in two types of model fits. For a spectral analysis, 2.5-25 keV spectral data fro…
We fit outbursts of two X-ray novae (Nova Monocerotis 1975=A0620-00 and Nova Muscae GS 1991=1124-683) using a time-dependent accretion disk model. The model is based on a new solution for a diffusion-type equation for the non-steady-state accretion and describes the evolution of a viscous alpha-disk in a binary system after the peak of an outburst, when matter in the disk is totally ionized. The accretion rate in the disk decreases according to a power law. We derive formulas for the accretion rate and effective temperature of the disk. The model has three free input parameters: the mass of th…
In $2016-17$, the Galactic transient black hole candidate GRS 1716-249 exhibited an outburst event after a long period of quiescence of almost 23 years. The source remained in the outbursting phase for $\sim 9$ months. We study the spectral and temporal properties of the source during this outburst using archival data from four astronomy satellites, namely MAXI, Swift, NuSTAR and AstroSat. Initial spectral analysis is done using combined disk black body and power-law models. For a better understanding of the accretion flow properties, we studied spectra with the physical two component advectiv…
We re-analysed the archival data of RXTE / INTEGRAL / Swift satellites at the onset phase of the 2011 outburst of the X-ray source IGR J17091-3624. The evolution of the spectral and temporal properties of the source in this phase clearly exhibits state transition as Hard (HS) to Hard-Intermediate (HIMS) to Soft-Intermediate (SIMS) to Soft (SS) state, before entering the variability phase (VP).We attempt to understand the evolution of X-ray features and the state transitions based on two different types of accreting material (i.e, the Keplerian and sub-Keplerian flow).
Temporal and spectral variations of black hole candidates during outbursts have been reported in several publications. It is well known that during an outburst, source becomes softer in first few days, and then returns to hard states after a few weeks or months. In the present paper, we show variation of Comptonization Efficiency (CE), defined to be the ratio of number of power-law photons and number of soft photons injected to into the Compton cloud, as a function of time in several outbursts. Since power-law photons are generated through inverse-Comptonization of the intercepted soft photons…
Galactic black hole candidate MAXI J1910-057/Swift J1910.2-0546 was simultaneously discovered by MAXI/GSC and Swift/BAT satellites during its first outburst in 2012. We study the detailed spectral and temporal properties of the source in a broad energy range using archival data from Swift/XRT, MAXI/GSC and Swift/BAT satellites/instruments. Low frequency quasi periodic oscillations are observed during the outburst. The combined 1-50 keV spectra are analyzed using the transonic flow solution based Two Component Advective Flow (TCAF) model. Based on the variations of soft and hard X-ray fluxes, t…
Transient black hole candidates are interesting objects to study in X-rays as these sources show rapid evolutions in their spectral and temporal properties. In this paper, we study the spectral properties of the Galactic transient X-ray binary MAXI~J1659-152 during its very first outburst after discovery with the archival data of RXTE Proportional Counter Array instruments. We make a detailed study of the evolution of accretion flow dynamics during its 2010 outburst through spectral analysis using the Chakrabarti-Titarchuk two-component advective flow (TCAF) model as an additive table model in…
The extent of the accretion disk in the low/hard state of stellar mass black hole X-ray binaries remains an open question. There are some evidence suggesting that the inner accretion disk is truncated and replaced by a hot flow, while the detection of relativistic broadened iron emission lines seems to require an accretion disk extending fully to the innermost stable circular orbit. We present comprehensive spectral and timing analyses of six Nuclear Spectroscopic Telescope Array (NuSTAR) and XMM-Newton observations of GX 339-4 taken during outburst decay during the autumn of 2015. Using a spe…
Galactic X-ray binary black hole candidate Swift~J1753.5-0127 was discovered on June 30 2005 by Swift/BAT instrument. In this paper, we make detailed analysis of spectral and timing properties of its 2005 outburst using RXTE/PCA archival data. We study evolution of spectral properties of the source from spectral analysis with the additive table model {\it fits} file of the Chakrabarti-Titarchuk two-components advective flow (TCAF) solution. From spectral fit, we extract physical flow parameters, such as, Keplerian disk accretion rate, sub-Keplerian halo rate, shock location and shock compressi…
The Galactic black-hole candidate GX 339-4 exhibited several outbursts at regular intervals of \sim 2-3 years in the Rossi X-ray Timing Explorer (RXTE) era. After remaining in an almost quiescent state for 3 years, it again became X-ray active in 2010 January, continuing to be so over the next \sim 14 months. We study the timing and spectral properties of the black hole candidate (BHC) during its recent outburst using RXTE PCA data, starting from 2010 January 12 to 2011 March 6. Our study provides a comprehensive understanding of the mass accretion processes and properties of the accretion dis…
The twelfth accretion-powered millisecond pulsar, IGR J17511-3057, was discovered in September 2009. In this work we study its spectral and timing properties during the 2009 outburst based on Swift and RXTE data. Our spectral analysis of the source indicates only slight spectral shape evolution during the entire outburst. The equivalent width of the iron line and the apparent area of the blackbody emission associated with the hotspot at the stellar surface both decrease significantly during the outburst. This is consistent with a gradual receding of the accretion disc as the accretion rate dro…
In accreting neutron star X-ray transients, the neutron star crust can be substantially heated out of thermal equilibrium with the core during an accretion outburst. The observed subsequent cooling in quiescence (when accretion has halted) offers a unique opportunity to study the structure and thermal properties of the crust. Initially crust cooling modelling studies focussed on transient X-ray binaries with prolonged accretion outbursts (> 1 year) such that the crust would be significantly heated for the cooling to be detectable. Here we present the results of applying a theoretical model to …
We propose the new scenario for X-ray outbursts in Be/X-ray binaries that normal and giant outbursts are respectively caused by radiatively inefficient accretion flows (RIAFs) and Bondi-Hoyle-Lyttleton (BHL) accretion of the material transferred from the outermost part of a Be disk misaligned with the binary orbital plane. Based on simulated mass-transfer rates from misaligned Be disks, together with simplified accretion flow models, we show that mass-accretion rates estimated from the luminosity of the normal X-ray outbursts are consistent with those obtained with advection-dominated accretio…
The Galactic transient X-ray binary MAXI~J1836-194 was discovered on 29th August 2011. Here we make a detailed study of the spectral and timing properties of its 2011 outburst using archival data of RXTE Proportional Counter Array instrument. The evolution of accretion flow dynamics of the source during the outburst through spectral analysis with Chakrabarti-Titarchuk's two-component advective flow (TCAF) solution as a local table model in XSPEC. We also fitted spectra with combined disk blackbody and power-law models and compared it with the TCAF model fitted results. The source is found to b…
We present dedicated quasi-simultaneous X-ray (Swift) and optical (Very Large Telescope (VLT), V- and R-band) observations of the intermediate mass black hole candidate ESO 243-49 HLX-1 before and during the 2012 outburst. We show that the V-band magnitudes vary with time, thus proving that a portion of the observed emission originates in the accretion disk. Using the first quiescent optical observations of HLX-1, we show that the stellar population surrounding HLX-1 is fainter than V~25.1 and R~24.2. We show that the optical emission may increase before the X-ray emission consistent with the …
The Be/X-ray binary A 0535+26 showed a normal (type I) outburst in August/September 2005, which reached a maximum X-ray flux of 400mCrab in the 5-100keV range. The outburst was observed by INTEGRAL and RXTE. The energy of the fundamental cyclotron line has been measured with INTEGRAL and RXTE at ~45keV. Flaring activity was observed during the rise to the peak of the outburst. RXTE observations during one of these flares found the energy of the fundamental cyclotron line shifted to a significantly higher position than during the rest of the outburst, where it remains constant. Also, the energy…
We report on the analysis of NuSTAR observations of the Be-transient X-ray pulsar V 0332+53 during the giant outburst in 2015 and another minor outburst in 2016. We confirm the cyclotron-line energy-luminosity correlation previously reported in the source and the line energy decrease during the giant outburst. Based on 2016 observations, we find that a year later the line energy has increased again essentially reaching the pre-outburst values. We discuss this behaviour and conclude that it is likely caused by a change of the emission region geometry rather than previously suggested accretion-i…
It is commonly assumed that the properties and geometry of the accretion flow in transient low-mass X-ray binaries (LMXBs) significantly change when the X-ray luminosity decays below $\sim 10^{-2}$ of the Eddington limit ($L_{\rm Edd}$). However, there are few observational cases where the evolution of the accretion flow is tracked in a single X-ray binary over a wide dynamic range. In this work, we use NuSTAR and NICER observations obtained during the 2018 accretion outburst of the neutron star LMXB 4U 1608-52, to study changes in the reflection spectrum. We find that the broad Fe-K$α$ line a…
Supergiant fast X-ray transients (SFXTs) are high mass X-ray binaries associated with OB supergiant companions and characterised by an X-ray flaring behaviour whose dynamical range reaches 5 orders of magnitude on timescales of a few hundred to thousands of seconds. Current investigations concentrate on finding possible mechanisms to inhibit accretion in SFXTs and explain their unusually low average X-ray luminosity. We present the Swift observations of an exceptionally bright outburst displayed by the SFXT IGR J17544-2619 on 2014 October 10 when the source achieved a peak luminosity of $3\tim…
We have systematically studied the effect of the orbital inclination in the outburst evolution of black hole transients. We have included all the systems observed by the Rossi X-ray timing explorer in which the thermal, accretion disc component becomes strongly dominant at some point of the outburst. Inclination is found to modify the shape of the tracks that these systems display in the colour/luminosity diagrams traditionally used for their study. Black hole transients seen at low inclination reach softer spectra and their accretion discs look cooler than those observed closer to edge-on. Th…
Understanding the dynamics behind black hole state transitions and the changes they reflect in outbursts has become long-standing problem. The X-ray reflection spectrum describes the interaction between the hard X-ray source (the power-law continuum) and the cool accretion disc it illuminates, and thus permits an indirect view of how the two evolve. We present a systematic analysis of the reflection spectrum throughout three outbursts (500+ observations) of the black hole binary GX 339-4, representing the largest study applying a self-consistent treatment of reflection to date. Particular atte…
We examine the dynamical behavior of accretion flow around XTE J1859+226 during the 1999 outburst by analyzing the entire outburst data ($\sim$ 166 days) from RXTE Satellite. Towards this, we study the hysteresis behavior in the hardness intensity diagram (HID) based on the broadband ($3 - 150$ keV) spectral modeling, spectral signature of jet ejection and the evolution of Quasi-periodic Oscillation (QPO) frequencies using the two-component advective flow model around a black hole. We compute the flow parameters, namely Keplerian accretion rate (${\dot m}_d$), sub-Keplerian accretion rate (${\…
We present the spectral and timing analysis of the X-ray pulsar GRO J1744-28 during its 2014 outburst using data collected with the X-ray satellites Swift, INTEGRAL, Chandra, and XMM-Newton. We derived, by phase-connected timing analysis of the observed pulses, an updated set of the source ephemeris. We were also able to investigate the spin-up of the X-ray pulsar as a consequence of the accretion torque during the outburst. Relating the spin-up rate and the mass accretion rate as $\dotν\propto\dot{M}^β$, we fitted the pulse phase delays obtaining a value of $β=0.96(3)$. Combining the results …
The accreting millisecond X-ray pulsar Swift J1756.9$-$2508 went into outburst in April 2018 and June 2019, 8.7 yr after the previous activity period. We investigated the temporal, timing and spectral properties of these two outbursts using data from NICER, XMM-Newton, NuSTAR, INTEGRAL, Swift and Insight-HXMT. The two outbursts exhibited similar broad-band spectra and X-ray pulse profiles. For the first time, we report the detection of the pulsed emission up to $\sim100$ keV observed by Insight-HXMT during the 2018 outburst. We also found the pulsation up to $\sim60$ keV observed by NICER and …

RS Ophiuchi is a recurrent nova system that experiences outbursts every ~20 years, implying accretion at a high rate onto a massive white dwarf. However, previous X-ray observations of the system in quiescence have detected only faint emission that is difficult to reconcile with the high accretion rate predicted by nova theory for such frequent outbursts. Here, we use new Chandra and XMM-Newton observations obtained 537 and 744 days after the 2006 outburst to constrain both the accretion rate onto the white dwarf and the properties of the nova ejecta at these times. We detect low level UV vari…
We study the X-ray emission of the microquasar XTE J1550-564 and analyze the properties of its light curves using the recurrence analysis method. The indicators for non-linear dynamics of the accretion flow are found in the very high state and soft state of this source. The significance of deterministic variability depends on the energy band. We discuss the non-linear dynamics of the accretion flow in the context of the disc-corona geometry and propagating oscillations in the accretion flow.
IGR J00291+5934 is the fastest-known accretion-powered X-ray pulsar, discovered during a transient outburst in 2004. In this paper, we report on Integral and Swift observations during the 2015 outburst, which lasts for $\sim25$ d. The source has not been observed in outburst since 2008, suggesting that the long-term accretion rate has decreased by a factor of two since discovery. The averaged broad-band (0.1 - 250 keV) persistent spectrum in 2015 is well described by a thermal Comptonization model with a column density of $N_{\rm H} \approx4\times10^{21}$ cm$^{-2}$, a plasma temperature of $kT…
We study the stability of disc accretion in the recurrent nova RS Ophiuchi. We construct a one-dimensional time-dependent model of the binary-disc system, which includes viscous heating and radiative cooling and a self-consistent treatment of the binary potential. We find that the extended accretion disc in this system is always unstable to the thermal-viscous instability, and undergoes repeated disc outbursts on ~10-20yr time-scales. This is similar to the recurrence time-scale of observed outbursts in the RS Oph system, but we show that the disc's accretion luminosity during outburst is insu…
The Be/X-ray transients V0332+53 and 4U 0115+63 exhibited giant, type-II outbursts in 2015. Here we present Swift/XRT follow-up observations at the end of those outbursts. Surprisingly, the sources did not decay back to their known quiescent levels but stalled at a (slowly decaying) meta-stable state with luminosities ~10 times that observed in quiescence. The spectra in these states are considerably softer than the outburst spectra and appear to soften in time when the luminosity decreases. The physical mechanism behind these meta-stable states is unclear and they could be due to low-level ac…
A number of accreting X-ray pulsars experience spectral changes, both on the long time scales and on the time scales of the neutron star spin period. The sources seem to form two distinct groups which differ by the type of the spectral variations with flux. Such a bimodality probably reflects two different regimes of accretion that may result in a particular pulsar depending on its luminosity - so-called sub- and super-critical regimes. We investigated the behavior of the spectral parameters of the Be/X-ray binary system A 0535+26, as a function of flux and pulse phase. We used the data collec…
The Temporal and Spectral variations of black hole candidates during outbursts have been reported in several publications. It is well known that during an outburst, the source becomes soft in the first few days, and then returns to the hard state after a few weeks or months. In the present paper, we show the variation of Comptonization Efficiency (CE), obtained from the ratio of the black body photon number to the power-law photon number, as a function of time in several outbursts. Since the power-law photons are generated through inverse-Comptonization of the intercepted soft photons, the CE …
We derive accretion flow properties of the transient black hole candidate (BHC) MAXI~J1543-564 using the RXTE data. We use Two-Component Advective Flow (TCAF) solution to fit the data of the very initial rising phase of outburst (from 2011 May 10 to 2011 May 15). $2.5-25$~keV spectra are fitted using the TCAF solution {\it fits} file as a local additive table model in XSPEC. We extract physical flow parameters such as the two component (Keplerian disk and sub-Keplerian halo) accretion rates and size and the property of the Compton cloud (post shock region close to a black hole). Similar to oth…
The spectral evolution of transient X-ray binaries can be reproduced by an interplay between two flows separated at a radius $R_J$: a standard accretion disk (SAD) in the outer parts and a jet-emitting disk (JED) in the inner parts. In the previous papers of this series, we recover the spectral evolution in both X-rays and radio for four outbursts of GX339-4 by playing independently with the two parameters: $R_J$ and the accretion rate $\dot{M}_{in}$. In this paper, we compare the time evolution of $R_J$ and $\dot{M}_{in}$ for the four outbursts. We show that despite the undeniable differences…
Context. The black hole candidate GX 339-4 exhibited an X-ray outburst in January 2010, which is still continuing. We here discuss the timing and the spectral properties of the outburst using RXTE data. Aims. Our goal is to study the timing and spectral properties of GX 339-4 using its recent outburst data and extract information about the nature of the accretion flow. Methods. We use RXTE archival data of the recent GX 339-4 outburst and analyze them with the NASA HEAsoft package, version 6.8. We then compare the observed quasi-periodic oscillation (QPO) frequencies with those from existing s…
We report the detection of the state transitions and hysteresis effect in the two mini-outbursts of the black hole (BH) transient GRS 1739$-$278 following its 2014 major outburst. The X-ray spectral evolutions in these two mini-outbursts are similar to the major outburst, in spite of their peak luminosities and the outburst durations are one order of magnitude lower. We found the $L_\mathrm{hard-to-soft}$ and the $L_\mathrm{peak,soft}$ of the mini-outbursts also follow the correlation previous found in other X-ray binaries. The $L_\mathrm{hard-to-soft}$ of the mini-outbursts is still higher th…
Recurring outbursts associated with matter flowing onto compact stellar remnants (black-holes, neutron stars, white dwarfs) in close binary systems, provide strong test beds for constraining the poorly understood accretion process. The efficiency of angular momentum (and thus mass) transport in accretion discs, which has traditionally been encoded in the $α$-viscosity parameter, shapes the light-curves of these outbursts. Numerical simulations of the magneto-rotational instability that is believed to be the physical mechanism behind this transport find values of $α\sim 0.1-0.2$ as required fro…
We present the lightcurves, spectra, and hardness-intensity diagram (HID) of the high mass X-ray binary V0332+53 using Fermi/GBM, MAXI, Swift/BAT, and INTEGRAL through its 2015 Type II outburst. We observe characteristic features in the X-ray emission (2-50 keV) due to periastron passages, the dynamical timescale of the accretion disc, and changes within the accretion column between a radiation-dominated flow and a flow dominated by Coulomb interactions. Based on the HID and the light curves, the critical luminosity is observed to decrease by ~5-7 percent during the outburst, signaling a decre…
