We study Hasse diagrams of moduli spaces of $\mathrm{3d}$ $\mathcal{N}=4$ quiver gauge theories. The goal of this work is twofold: 1) We introduce the notion of inverting a Hasse diagram and conjecture that the Coulomb branch and Higgs branch Hasse diagrams of certain theories are related through this operation. 2) We introduce a Hasse diagram to map out the entire moduli space of the theory, including the Coulomb, Higgs and mixed branches. For theories whose Higgs and Coulomb branch Hasse diagrams are related by inversion it is straight forward to generate the Hasse diagram of the entire moduli space. We apply inversion of the Higgs branch Hasse diagram in order to obtain the Coulomb branch Hasse diagram for bad theories and obtain results consistent with the literature. For theories whose Higgs and Coulomb branch Hasse diagrams are not related by inversion it is nevertheless possible to produce the Hasse diagram of the full moduli space using different methods. We give examples for Hasse diagrams of the entire moduli space of theories with \emph{enhanced} Coulomb branches.
Hasse diagrams (or phase diagrams) for moduli spaces of supersymmetric field theories have been intensively studied in recent years, and many tools to compute them have been developed. The moduli space of instantons, despite being well studied, has proven difficult to deal with. In this note we explore the Hasse diagram of this moduli space from several perspectives -- using the partial Higgs mechanism, using brane systems and using quiver subtraction -- having to refine previously developed techniques. In particular we introduce the new concept of decorated quiver, which allows to deal with a…
We analyse the Higgs branch of 4d $\mathcal{N}=2$ SQCD gauge theories with non-connected gauge groups $\widetilde{\mathrm{SU}}(N) = \mathrm{SU}(N) \rtimes_{I,II} \mathbb{Z}_2$ whose study was initiated in arXiv:1804.01108. We derive the Hasse diagrams corresponding to the Higgs mechanism using adapted characters for representations of non-connected groups. We propose 3d $\mathcal{N}=4$ magnetic quivers for the Higgs branches in the type $I$ discrete gauging case, in the form of recently introduced wreathed quivers, and provide extensive checks by means of Coulomb branch Hilbert series computat…
The singularity structure of the Coulomb and Higgs branches of good $3d$ $\mathcal{N}=4$ circular quiver gauge theories (CQGTs) with unitary gauge groups is studied. The central method employed is the Kraft--Procesi transition. CQGTs are described as a generalisation of a class of linear quivers. This class degenerates into the familiar class $T_ρ^σ(SU(N))$ in the linear case, however the circular case does not have the degeneracy and so the class of CQGTs contains many more theories and much more structure. We describe a collection of good, unitary, CQGTs from which the entire class can be fo…
Magnetic quivers and Hasse diagrams for Higgs branches of rank 1 $4d$ $\mathcal{N}=2$ SCFTs are provided. These rank 1 theories fit naturally into families of higher rank theories, originating from higher dimensions, which are addressed.
We explore the geometrical structure of Higgs branches of quantum field theories with 8 supercharges in 3, 4, 5 and 6 dimensions. They are symplectic singularities, and as such admit a decomposition (or foliation) into so-called symplectic leaves, which are related to each other by transverse slices. We identify this foliation with the pattern of partial Higgs mechanism of the theory and, using brane systems and recently introduced notions of magnetic quivers and quiver subtraction, we formalise the rules to obtain the Hasse diagram which encodes the structure of the foliation. While the unbro…
In this note we construct magnetic quivers for the known rank-2 four dimensional $\mathcal{N}=2$ superconformal field theories. For every rank-1 theory one can find a unitary magnetic quiver; we observe that this is no longer possible at rank 2. Our list of magnetic quivers necessarily includes orthosymplectic quivers, in addition to unitary ones, of both the simply and non-simply laced variety. Using quiver subtraction, one can compute Higgs branch Hasse diagrams and compare with the results obtained via other methods finding nearly perfect agreement.
We study the spectrum of BPS particles on the Coulomb branch of five-dimensional superconformal field theories (5d SCFTs) compactified on a circle. By engineering these theories in M-theory on ${\mathbf X} \times S^1 $, for ${\mathbf X}$ an isolated Calabi-Yau threefold singularity, we naturally identify the BPS category of the 5d theory on a circle with the derived category of coherent sheaves on a resolution of ${\mathbf X}$. It follows that the BPS spectrum can be studied in terms of 5d BPS quivers, which are the fractional-brane quivers for the singularity ${\mathbf X}$. 5d BPS quivers gen…
We study the full moduli space of vacua of 6d worldvolume SCFTs on M5 branes probing an $A$-type singularity, focusing on the geometric incarnation of the discrete gauging mechanism which acts as a discrete quotient on the Higgs branch fibered over the tensor branch. We combine insights from brane constructions and magnetic quiver techniques, in which discrete gauging is implemented through the concept of decoration introduced in [arXiv:2202.01218]. We discover and characterize new transverse slices between phases of 6d SCFTs, identifying some of them with a family of isolated symplectic singu…
To date, the best effort made to simply determine the Coulomb branch global symmetry of a theory from a $3d$ $\mathcal{N}=4$ quiver is by applying an algorithm based on its balanced gauge nodes. This often gives the full global symmetry, but there have been many cases seen where it instead gives only a subgroup. This paper presents a method for constructing several families of $3d$ $\mathcal{N}=4$ unitary quivers where the true global symmetry is enhanced from that predicted by the balance algorithm, motivated by the study of Coulomb branch Hasse diagrams. This provides a rich list of examples…
5d superconformal field theories (SCFTs) can be obtained from 6d SCFTs by circle compactification and mass deformation. Successive decoupling of hypermultiplet matter and RG-flow generates a decoupling tree of descendant 5d SCFTs. In this paper we determine the magnetic quivers and Hasse diagrams, that encode the Higgs branches of 5d SCFTs, for entire decoupling trees. Central to this undertaking is the approach in arXiv:2008.05577, which, starting from the generalized toric polygons (GTPs) dual to 5-brane webs/tropical curves, provides a systematic and succinct derivation of magnetic quivers …
Magnetic quivers and Hasse diagrams for Higgs branches of rank $r$ 4d $\mathcal{N}=2$ SCFTs arising from $\mathbb{Z}_{\ell}$ $\mathcal{S}$-fold constructions are discussed. The magnetic quivers are derived using three different methods: 1) Using clues like dimension, global symmetry, and the folding parameter $\ell$ to guess the magnetic quiver. 2) From 6d $\mathcal{N}=(1,0)$ SCFTs as UV completions of 5d marginal theories, and specific FI deformations on their magnetic quiver, which is further folded by $\mathbb{Z}_{\ell}$. 3) From T-duality of Type IIA brane systems of 6d $\mathcal{N}=(1,0)$…
We study $3d$ $\mathcal{N}=4$ quiver gauge theories with gauge nodes forming a $D_n$ Dynkin diagram. The class of good $D_n$ Dynkin quivers is completely characterised and the moduli space singularity structure fully determined for all such theories. The class of good $D_n$ Dynkin quivers is denoted $D_ν^μ(n)_p$ where $n \geq 2$ is an integer, $ν$ and $μ$ are integer partitions and $p \in \{ \textrm{even}, \textrm{odd}\}$ denotes membership of one of two broad subclasses. A full assessment of which $\mathfrak{so}_{2n}$ nilpotent varieties are realisable as $D_n$ Dynkin quiver moduli spaces is …
Magnetic quivers have led to significant progress in the understanding of gauge theories with 8 supercharges at UV fixed points. For a given low-energy gauge theory realised via a Type II brane construction, there exist magnetic quivers for the Higgs branches at finite and infinite gauge coupling. Comparing these moduli spaces allows to study the non-perturbative effects when transitioning to the fixed point. For 5d $\mathcal{N}=1$ SQCD, 5-brane webs have been an important tool for deriving magnetic quivers. In this work, the emphasis is placed on 5-brane webs with orientifold 5-planes which g…
A graded quiver with superpotential is a quiver whose arrows are assigned degrees $c\in \{0, 1, \cdots, m\}$, for some integer $m \geq 0$, with relations generated by a superpotential of degree $m-1$. Ordinary quivers ($m=1)$ often describe the open string sector of D-brane systems; in particular, they capture the physics of D3-branes at local Calabi-Yau (CY) 3-fold singularities in type IIB string theory, in the guise of 4d $\mathcal{N}=1$ supersymmetric quiver gauge theories. It was pointed out recently that graded quivers with $m=2$ and $m=3$ similarly describe systems of D-branes at CY 4-f…
Motivated by studies on 4d black holes and q-deformed 2d Yang Mills theory, and borrowing ideas from compact geometry of the blowing up of affine ADE singularities, we build a class of local Calabi-Yau threefolds (CY^{3}) extending the local 2-torus model \mathcal{O}(m)\oplus \mathcal{O}(-m)\to T^{2\text{}} considered in hep-th/0406058 to test OSV conjecture. We first study toric realizations of T^{2} and then build a toric representation of X_{3} using intersections of local Calabi-Yau threefolds \mathcal{O}(m)\oplus \mathcal{O}(-m-2)\to \mathbb{P}^{1}. We develop the 2d \mathcal{N}=2 linear …
We study macroscopically two dimensional $\mathcal{N}=(2,2)$ supersymmetric gauge theories constructed by compactifying the quiver gauge theories with eight supercharges on a product $\mathbb{T}^{d} \times \mathbb{R}^{2}_ε$ of a $d$-dimensional torus and a two dimensional cigar with $Ω$-deformation. We compute the universal part of the effective twisted superpotential. In doing so we establish the correspondence between the gauge theories, quantization of the moduli spaces of instantons on $\mathbb{R}^{2-d} \times \mathbb{T}^{2+d}$ and singular monopoles on $\mathbb{R}^{2-d} \times \mathbb{T}^…
M5 branes on a D-type ALE singularity display various phenomena that introduce additional massless degrees of freedom. The M5 branes are known to fractionate on a D-type singularity. Whenever two fractional M5 branes coincide, tensionless strings arise. Therefore, these systems do not admit a low-energy Lagrangian description. Focusing on the 6-dimensional N=(1,0) world-volume theories on the M5 branes, the vacuum moduli space has two branches were either the scalar fields in the tensor multiplet or the scalars in the hypermultiplets acquire a non-trivial vacuum expectation value. As suggested…
The trinions $T_N$ are a class of 5d $\mathcal{N}=1$ superconformal field theories (SCFTs) realized as M-theory on $\mathbb{C}^3/\mathbb{Z}_N \times \mathbb{Z}_N$. We apply to $T_N$, as well as closely-related SCFTs that are obtained by mass deformations, a multitude of recently developed approaches to studying 5d SCFTs and their IR gauge theory descriptions. Thereby we provide a complete picture of the theories both on the Coulomb branch and Higgs branch, from various geometric points of view - toric and gluing of compact surfaces as well as combined fiber diagrams - to magnetic quivers and H…
Extending the usual $\mathbf{C}^{\ast r}$ actions of toric manifolds by allowing asymmetries between the various $\mathbf{C}^{\ast}$ factors, we build a class of non commutative (NC) toric varieties $\mathcal{V}%_{d+1}^{(nc)}$. We construct NC complex $d$ dimension Calabi-Yau manifolds embedded in $\mathcal{V}_{d+1}^{(nc)}$ by using the algebraic geometry method. Realizations of NC $\mathbf{C}^{\ast r}$ toric group are given in presence and absence of quantum symmetries and for both cases of discrete or continuous spectrums. We also derive the constraint eqs for NC Calabi-Yau backgrounds $\mat…
We apply dimer diagram techniques to uncover discrete global symmetries in the fields theories on D3-branes at singularities given by general orbifolds of general toric Calabi-Yau threefold singularities. The discrete symmetries are discrete Heisenberg groups, with two $\mathbf{Z}_N$ generators $A$, $B$ with commutation $AB=CBA$, with $C$ a central element. This fully generalizes earlier observations in particular orbifolds of $\mathbf{C}^3$, the conifold and $Y_{p,q}$. The solution for any orbifold of a given parent theory follows from a universal structure in the infinite dimer in $\mathbf{R…
Considering complex $n$-dimension Calabi-Yau homogeneous hyper-surfaces $% \mathcal{H}_{n}$ with discrete torsion and using Berenstein and Leigh algebraic geometry method, we study Fractional D-branes that result from stringy resolution of singularities. We first develop the method introduced in hep-th/0105229 and then build the non commutative (NC) geometries for orbifolds $\mathcal{O}=\mathcal{H}_{n}/\mathbf{Z}_{n+2}^{n}$ with a discrete torsion matrix $t_{ab}=exp[{\frac{i2π}{n+2}}{(η_{ab}-η_{ba})}]$, $η_{ab} \in SL(n,\mathbf{Z})$. We show that the NC manifolds $% \mathcal{O}^{(nc)}$ are giv…
