Nagy-Soper subtraction: a review

In this document, we present a review on an alternative NLO subtraction scheme, based on the splitting kernels of an improved parton shower that promises to facilitate the inclusion of higher order corrections into Monte Carlo event generators. We give expressions for the scheme for massless emitters, and point to work on the extension for massive cases. As an example, we show results for the C parameter of the process e+ e- -> 3 jets at NLO which have recently been published as a verification of this scheme. Jet areas as a tool for background subtraction

In all modern hadronic colliders, jets recieve a large contribution from a soft background: pileup in the case of proton-proton collisions at the LHC, or the underlying event for heavy-ion collisions at RHIC or the LHC. In these proceedings, we present a generic and simple method, based on jet areas, to subtract the contribution of the soft background from the jets. This allows for more precise kinematic reconstruction of jets in dense environments.

Numerical integration of subtraction terms

Numerical approaches to higher-order calculations often employ subtraction terms, both for the real emission and the virtual corrections. These subtraction terms have to be added back. In this paper we show that at NLO the real subtraction terms, the virtual subtraction terms, the integral representations of the field renormalisation constants and -- in the case of initial-state partons -- the integral representation for the collinear counterterm can be grouped together to give finite integrals, which can be evaluated numerically. This is useful for an extension towards NNLO.

Measure of $π$'s and $Λ$'s emitter radius via Bose-Einstein and Fermi-Dirac Statistics

This report summarises the recent studies of the Bose-Einstein Correlations (BEC) carried out by the four LEP experiments using hadronic Z$^0$ decay events and $e^+ e^-$ reactions leading to the WW decay final states. The three identical charged pion systems $π^{\pm} π^{\pm} π^{\pm}$ have been studied by OPAL with $4 \times 10^6$ hadronic Z$^0$ decays events. The genuine three-pion correlations corrected for Coulomb effects, were separated from the known two-pion correlations by a novel subtraction procedure using the data events themselves.
