With the growing complexity of quantum key distribution (QKD) network structures, aforehand topology design is of great significance to support a large-number of nodes over a large-spatial area. However, the exclusivity of quantum channels, the limitation of key generation capabilities, the variety of QKD protocols and the necessity of untrusted-relay selection, make the optimal topology design a very complicated task. In this research, a hybrid QKD network is studied for the first time from the perspective of topology, by analyzing the topological differences of various QKD protocols. In addition, to make full use of hybrid networking, an analytical model for optimal topology calculation is proposed, to reach the goal of best secure communication service by optimizing the deployment of various QKD devices and the selection of untrusted-relays under a given cost limit. Plentiful simulation results show that hybrid networking and untrusted-relay selection can bring great performance advantages, and then the universality and effectiveness of the proposed analytical model are verified.
A composite system of Majorana-hosted semiconductor nanowire and superconducting flux qubit is inves- tigated. It is found that the coupling between these two subsystems can be controlled electrically, supplying a convenient method to implement π/8 phase gate of a Majorana-based topological qubit. We also present a scheme to transfer information from the flux qubit to the topological qubit using Landau-Zener transition. In addition, a structure named top-flux-flux is proposed to retrieve the information stored in the topological qubit. With the demonstration of the entanglement of two topologi…
We map the topological properties of a one dimensional superlattice to the optical properties of an electronic system. We find that the nonlinear-optical response is optimized for electrons that live in the transitional morphology between topologically protected edge states and delocalized eigenstates. This provides a novel means of tuning the nonlinear-optical response of hybrid quantum systems. We show how these characteristics can be used to mimic saturable absorption and illustrate how `quantum cords' can be used to build an efficient all-optical switch.
In this paper we present a hybrid scheme for topological quantum computation in a system of cold atoms trapped in an atomic lattice. A topological qubit subspace is defined using Majorana fermions which emerge in a network of atomic Kitaev one-dimensional wires. We show how braiding can be efficiently implemented in this setup and propose a direct way to demonstrate the non-Abelian nature of Majorana fermions via a single parity measurement. We then introduce a proposal for the efficient, robust and reversible mapping of the topological qubits to a conventional qubit stored in a single atom. T…
Fault-tolerant quantum computing in systems composed of both Majorana fermions and topologically unprotected quantum systems, e.g. superconducting circuits or quantum dots, is studied in this paper. Errors caused by topologically unprotected quantum systems need to be corrected with error correction schemes, for instance, the surface code. We find that the error-correction performance of such a hybrid topological quantum computer is not superior to a normal quantum computer unless the topological charge of Majorana fermions is insusceptible to noise. If errors changing the topological charge a…
We propose a scheme to implement Controlled Not-gate for topological qubits in a quantum-dot-Majorana-fermion hybrid system. Quantum information is encoded on pairs of Majorana fermions, which live on the the interface between topologically trivial and nontrivial sections of a quantum nanowire deposited on an s-wave superconductor. A measurement-based two-qubit Controlled-Not gate is produced with the help of parity measurements assisted by the quantum-dot and followed by prescribed single-qubit gates. The parity measurement, on the quantum-dot and a topological qubit, is achieved by the Aharo…
We propose an all-linear-optical scheme to ballistically generate a cluster state for measurement-based topological fault-tolerant quantum computation using hybrid photonic qubits entangled in a continuous-discrete domain. Availability of near-deterministic Bell-state measurements on hybrid qubits is exploited for the purpose. In the presence of photon losses, we show that our scheme leads to a significant enhancement in both tolerable photon-loss rate and resource overheads. More specifically, we report a photon-loss threshold of $\sim3.3\times 10^{-3}$, which is higher than those of known op…
We investigate a hybrid quantum system involving spin qubits, based on the spins of electrons confined in quantum dots, and topological qubits, based on Majorana fermions. In such a system, gated control of the charge on the quantum dots allows transfer of quantum information between the spin and topological qubits, and the topological system can be used to facilitate transfer of spin qubits between spatially separated quantum dots and to initialize entangled spin-qubit pairs. Here, we show that the coupling to the topological system also makes it possible to perform entangling two-qubit gates…

We present and analyze a hybrid quantum system that interfaces a Majorana-hosted semiconductor nanowire with a single nitrogen-vacancy (NV) center via a magnetized torsional cantilever. We show that, the torsional mode of the mechanical resonator can strongly couple to the Majorana qubit and the spin qubit simultaneously, which allows to interface them for quantum state conversion through a dark state protocol. This work provides a promising interface between the topological qubit and the conventional spin qubit, and can find interesting applications in quantum information and computation.
We introduce a new hybrid qubit consisting of a Majorana qubit interacting with a transmon longitudinally coupled to a resonator. To do so, we equip the longitudinal transmon qubit with topological quasiparticles, supported by an array of heterostructure nanowires, and derive charge- and phase-based interactions between the Majorana qubit and the resonator and transmon degrees of freedom. Inspecting the charge coupling, we demonstrate that the Majorana self-charging can be eliminated by a judicious choice of charge offset, thereby maintaining the Majorana degeneracy regardless of the quasipart…
We present a novel class of nonlinear dynamical systems - a hybrid of relativistic quantum and classical systems, and demonstrate that multistability is ubiquitous. A representative setting is coupled systems of a topological insulator and an insulating ferromagnet, where the former possesses an insulating bulk with topologically protected, dissipationless, and conducting surface electronic states governed by the relativistic quantum Dirac Hamiltonian and latter is described by the nonlinear classical evolution of its magnetization vector. The interactions between the two are essentially the s…
We introduce hybrid fracton orders: three-dimensional gapped quantum phases that exhibit the phenomenology of both conventional three-dimensional topological orders and fracton orders. Hybrid fracton orders host both (i) mobile topological quasiparticles and loop excitations, as well as (ii) point-like topological excitations with restricted mobility, with non-trivial fusion rules and mutual braiding statistics between the two sets of excitations. Furthermore, hybrid fracton phases can realize either conventional three-dimensional topological orders or fracton orders after undergoing a phase t…
While the application of out-of-plane magnetic fields was, so far, believed to be detrimental for the formation of Majorana phases in artificially engineered hybrid superconducting-semiconducting junctions, several recent theoretical studies have found it indeed useful in establishing such topological phases 1-5. Majorana phases emerge as quantized plateaus in the magnetoconductance of the hybrid junctions based on two-dimensional electron gases (2DEG) under fully out-of-plane magnetic fields. The large transverse Rashba spin-orbit interaction in 2DEG, together with a strong magneto-orbital ef…
We study the interaction between a topological insulator nanoparticle and a quantum dot subject to an applied electric field. The electromagnetic response of the topological insulator is derived from axion electrodynamics in the quasistatic approximation. Localized modes are quantized in terms of dipolar bosonic modes, which couples dipolarly to the quantum dot. Hence, we treat the hybrid as a two-level system interacting with a single bosonic mode, where the coupling strength encodes the information concerning the nontrivial topology of the nanoparticle. The interaction of the hybrid with the…

In this work we investigate the supercurrent in a hybrid topological Josephson junction consisting of two planes of topological insulator (TI) in a specific configuration, which allows both local (LAR) and crossed (CAR) Andreev processes at the interfaces with two conventional s-wave superconductors. We describe the effects of gate voltage and magnetic flux controls applied to the edge states of each TI. In particular, we demonstrate that the voltage gating allows the manipulation of the entaglement symmetry of non-local Cooper pairs associated to the CAR process. We establish a connection bet…
Degeneracy (exceptional) points embedded in energy band are distinct by their topological features. We report different hybrid two-state coalescences (EP2s) formed through merging two EP2s with opposite chiralities that created from the type III Dirac points emerging from a flat band. The band touching hybrid EP2, which is isolated, is induced by the destructive interference at the proper match between non-Hermiticity and synthetic magnetic flux. The degeneracy points and different types of exceptional points are distinguishable by their topological features of global geometric phase associate…
