Controlling the electromagnetic helicity and directionality of the light scattered by dielectric particles is paramount to a variety of phenomenology of interest in all-dielectric optics and photonics. In this Letter, we show that the conservation of the electromagnetic helicity in the scattering by high-index dielectric Mie spheres can be used as a probe of pure-multipolar spectral regions, particularly, of dipolar nature, beyond its presumed spectral interval. This finding reveals that the dipolar behavior is not necessarily limited to small particles, in striking contrast to the current state of the art. Interestingly, we demonstrate that the optimum forward light scattering condition, predicted for a particular nano-sphere in the limit of small particle, is fulfilled in fact at a fixed x size parameter for an infinite number of refractive indexes
Generation of an ultra-bright, deterministic, solid-state single photon source with high photon collection rate is an imperative requirement for quantum technologies. In this direction, various nanophotonic systems coupled with single quantum emitters are being implemented, but results in low decay rate enhancement and MHz photon collection rate. Here, we unravel coherent superposition of excited Mie-scattering moments in a dipolar antenna, coupled with a single nitrogen-vacancy (NV-) center, to achieve bright single photon source with GHz collection rate. Such balancing of Mie-scattering mome…

We review three different approaches for the calculation of electromagnetic multipoles, namely the Cartesian primitive multipoles, the Cartesian irreducible multipoles and the spherical multipoles. We identify the latter as the best suited to describe the scattering of electromagnetic radiation, as exemplified for an amorphous silicon sphere. These multipoles are then used to calculate the optical force acting on semiconductor, dielectric or metallic particles in a wide wavelength range, from the dipolar down to the Mie regimes.
The imaginary Poynting momentum (IPM) of light has been captivated an unusual origin of optomechanical effects on dipolar magnetoelectric particles, but yet observed in experiments. Here, we report, for the very first time, a whole family of high-order IPM forces for not only magnetoelectric but also generic Mie particles, assisted with their excited higher multipoles within. Such optomechanical phenomena derive from a nonlinear contribution of the IPM to the optical force, and can be remarkable even when the incident IPM is small. We observe the high-order optomechanics in a structured light …
Featured with a plethora of electric and magnetic Mie resonances, high index dielectric nanostructures offer a versatile platform to concentrate light-matter interactions at the nanoscale. By integrating unique features of far-field scattering control and near-field concentration from radiationless anapole states, here, we demonstrate a giant photothermal nonlinearity in single subwavelength-sized silicon nanodisks. The nanoscale energy concentration and consequent near-field enhancements mediated by the anapole mode yield a reversible nonlinear scattering with a large modulation depth and a b…
