Measurements of the semi-inclusive distribution of charged jets recoiling from a trigger hadron in pp and Pb--Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\mathrm{NN}}}$ = 5.02 TeV are presented. This technique provides precise, data-driven subtraction of the large uncorrelated background in jet measurements. It uniquely enables the exploration of medium-induced modification of jet production and acoplanarity over wide phase space, including low transverse momentum ($p_\mathrm{T}$) and large resolution parameter ($R$) jets. This proceeding reports the measurements of medium-induced jet energy redistribution through the comparison of trigger-normalized recoil jet yields in pp and Pb--Pb collisions, and for jets with different $R$.
We present the first fully-corrected semi-inclusive distribution of charged jets recoiling from a trigger hadron in 0-10% Pb-Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\mathrm{NN}}}$ = 5.02 TeV as a function of the azimuthal angle between the trigger hadron and jet, $Δφ$. This technique provides a precise data-driven subtraction of the large uncorrelated background contaminating the measurement, and enables the exploration of jet acoplanarity. Results for $R=0.2$ recoil jets in the region $30 < p_{\mathrm{T,jet}}^{\mathrm{ch}} < 40~\mathrm{GeV}/c$ are shown, where a suppression and narrowing of the $Δφ$ distr…
The ALICE Collaboration reports a search for jet quenching effects in pp collisions at $\sqrt{\mathrm{s}}$=13 TeV, in events selected on high multiplicity compared to the minimum bias population. The measurement is based on the semi-inclusive acoplanarity distribution of jets recoiling from a high-$p_\mathrm{T}$ trigger hadron. Significant broadening of the recoil jet acoplanarity distribution is observed in high multiplicity pp collisions, in both data and in simulations based on the PYTHIA model. Analysis is ongoing to elucidate the origin of this effect.
The measurement of jets recoiling from a trigger hadron in heavy-ion collisions can be used to understand the properties of the Quark Gluon Plasma. Jet-medium interactions cause jets to lose energy in the medium and may modify the jet structure. Jet deflection towards large angles due to scattering off of quasi-particles in the Quark-Gluon Plasma may also occur, which can be studied through a measurement of the hadron-jet acoplanarity. These phenomena can be studied through the semi-inclusive distribution of track-based jets recoiling from a trigger hadron. This contribution presents the lates…
Measurement of medium-induced acoplanarity in central Au-Au and pp collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\rm NN}}=200$ GeV using direct-photon+jet and $π^{0}$+jet correlations
Results for high multiplicity pp and p-Pb collisions at the LHC have revealed that these small collision systems exhibit features of collectivity. To understand the origin of these unexpected phenomena, the relative transverse activity classifier ($R_{\rm{T}}$) can be exploited as a tool to disentangle soft and hard particle production, by studying the yield of charged particles in different topological regions associated with transverse momentum trigger particles. This allows to study system size dependence of charged particle production of different origins and in particular search for jet-q…

We report measurement of the semi-inclusive distribution of charged-particle jets recoiling from a high transverse momentum ($p_{\rm T}$) hadron trigger, for p-Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\rm NN}} = 5.02$ TeV, in p-Pb events classified by event activity. This observable has been measured in pp and Pb-Pb collisions at the LHC, providing a new probe to measure quenching. Jets are reconstructed from charged particle tracks using anti-$k_{\rm t}$ with $R = 0.4$ and low IR cutoff of jet constituents ($p_{\rm T,track} > 0.15$ GeV/$c$). The complex uncorrelated jet background is corrected by a data-dr…

Jet substructure, defined by observables constructed from the distribution of constituents within a jet, provides the versatility to tailor observables to specific regions of QCD radiation phase space. This flexibility provides exciting new opportunities to study jet quenching in heavy-ion collisions and to ultimately help reveal the nature of the quark-gluon plasma. The ALICE detector is particularly well-suited to jet substructure measurements in heavy-ion collisions due to its high-precision tracking system. In these proceedings, we report several new jet substructure measurements in Pb-Pb …
We overview recent jet measurements in pp and Pb-Pb collisions with the ALICE detector. ALICE reconstructs jets at midrapidity using the anti-$k_{\mathrm{T}}$ algorithm, including both charged particle jets from the ALICE tracking detectors, and full jets from the combination of the ALICE electromagnetic calorimeter with the tracking system. We focus on inclusive and semi-inclusive jet measurements as well as jet substructure measurements, including a variety of groomed and ungroomed observables. In pp collisions, these results test pQCD techniques at $p_{\mathrm{T,\;jet}}<140$ GeV$/c$ in a lo…
High-energy jets offer rich opportunities to study quantum chromodynamics, from investigating the limits of perturbative calculability to constraining the emergent properties of the quark-gluon plasma (QGP). In these proceedings, we present new measurements of the fragmentation properties of jets. We report distributions of the sub-jet momentum fraction $z_r$ measured in pp and Pb-Pb collisions with ALICE at the Large Hadron Collider. These measurements serve as input to test the universality of jet fragmentation in the QGP, and offer a path to elucidate jet quenching effects in the large-$z$ …
We review up-to-date results on high-pt particles and jets in heavy ion collisions by three major LHC experiments, ALICE, ATLAS, and CMS. Results of analyses of 2010 and 2011 Pb+Pb data at $\sqrt{s_{NN}} = 2.76$ TeV are discussed. We concentrate mainly on results by fully reconstructed jets and discuss similarities and important differences in measurements among experiments. We point to the importance of understanding the results in a view of difference between quark-initiated and gluon-initiated jets
Jets are produced by processes involving high momentum transfer of initial partons at high energies. Comparing jet production in pp and nucleus-nucleus collisions will allow us to study the jet-quenching effect caused by the hot and dense QCD medium produced in nucleus-nucleus collisions when energetic partons traverse the medium. In particular, systematic studies of jet production in different multiplicity environments will provide in-depth understanding of the medium properties and their evolution from small to large systems. In small systems and high multiplicity events, the bulk properties…
Using the unique capabilities of the ALICE detectors for particle identification, different measurements have been performed to study the properties of the hot and dense matter created in the Pb-Pb collisions at sqrt(sNN)= 2.76 TeV. The analysis of the p-Pb data at sqrt(sNN) = 5.02 TeV reveals that the suppression of high pt hadrons observed in heavy nuclei collisions can not be explained as due to initial state effects. The systems created in the p-Pb collisions do not show evidence of jet quenching but, surprisingly, exhibit characteristics of flow. In this paper a review of the main results…
One of the key signatures of the Quark-Gluon Plasma (QGP) is the modification of hadron transverse momentum differential cross-sections in heavy-ion collisions (HIC) as compared to proton-proton (pp) collisions. Suppression of hadron production at high transverse momenta ($p_{\rm T}$) in HIC has been explained by the energy loss of the partons produced in the hard scattering processes which traverse the deconfined quantum chromodynamic (QCD) matter. The dependence of the observed suppression on the $p_{\rm T}$ of the measured hadron towards higher $p_{\rm T}$ is an important input for the theo…
Recent results for high multiplicity pp and p-Pb collisions have revealed that they exhibit heavy-ion-like behaviors. To understand the origin(s) of these unexpected phenomena, event shape observables such as transverse spherocity ($S_{\rm 0}^{p_{\rm T} = 1}$) and the relative transverse activity classifier ($R_{\rm{T}}$) can be exploited as a powerful tools to disentangle soft (non-perturbative) and hard (perturbative) particle production. Here, the production of light-flavor hadrons is shown for various $S_{\rm 0}^{p_{\rm T} = 1}$ classes in pp collisions at $\sqrt{s}$ = 13 $\textrm{TeV}$ me…
Recent measurements in high-multiplicity pp and p-A collisions have revealed that these small collision systems exhibit collective-like behaviour, formerly thought to be achievable only in heavy-ion collisions. To understand the origins of these unexpected phenomena, event shape observables can be exploited, as they serve as a powerful tool to disentangle soft and hard contributions to particle production. Here, results on the production of light flavor hadrons for different classes of unweighted transverse spherocity ($S_{\rm 0}^{p_{\rm T}= 1}$) and relative transverse activity ($R_{\rm{T}}$)…
Hadron production has been measured at mid-rapidity by the ALICE experiment at the LHC in proton-lead (p-Pb) collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\rm NN}}$ = 5.02 TeV. The transverse momentum ($p_{\rm T}$) distribution of primary charged particles and of identified light-flavoured hadrons ($π^{\pm}$, K$^{\pm}$, K$^{0}_{\rm S}$, p, $\bar{\rm p}$, $Λ$, $\barΛ$) are presented in this report. Charged-particle tracks are reconstructed in the central barrel over a wide momentum range. Furthermore they can be identified by exploiting specific energy loss (d$E$/d$x$), time-of-flight and topological particle-identi…
Jet quenching in relativistic heavy ion collisions can have multiple phenomenological consequences: jet energy loss, modification of jet substructure, and induced acoplanarity. In these proceedings, we report a measurement of the jet fragmentation function, which is one of the jet substructure observables, in peripheral Au+Au collisions at sqrt(s_NN) = 200 GeV by the STAR experiment at RHIC. In particular, we use a semi-inclusive population of jets recoiling from a high transverse momentum trigger hadron. The fragmentation function is constructed from the fraction of the transverse momentum of…
The ALICE Collaboration reports the measurement of semi-inclusive distributions of charged-particle jets recoiling from a high-transverse momentum trigger hadron in p-Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\rm NN}} =5.02$ TeV. Jets are reconstructed from charged-particle tracks using the anti-$k_{\rm T}$ algorithm with resolution parameter $R=0.2$ and $0.4$. A data-driven statistical approach is used to correct the uncorrelated background jet yield. Recoil jet distributions are reported for jet transverse momentum $15<p_{\rm T,jet}^{\rm ch} <50$ GeV/$c$ and are compared in various intervals of p-Pb event …
A measurement of dijet correlations in p-Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\rm NN}}=5.02$ TeV with the ALICE detector is presented. Jets are reconstructed from charged particles measured in the central tracking detectors and neutral energy deposited in the electromagnetic calorimeter. The transverse momentum of the full jet (clustered from charged and neutral constituents) and charged jet (clustered from charged particles only) is corrected event-by-event for the contribution of the underlying event, while corrections for underlying event fluctuations and finite detector resolution are applied on an …
Search for quasi-particle scattering in the quark-gluon plasma with jet splittings in pp and Pb$-$Pb collisions at $\mathbf{\sqrt{\textit{s}_{\rm NN}} = 5.02}$ TeV

Jets were reconstructed at mid-rapidity with the ALICE tracking detectors and electromagnetic calorimeter using the anti-$k_{\rm{T}}$ algorithm. For pp collisions, we report jet cross-sections for jet resolution parameters $R=0.1-0.6$ over the range $20<p_{\rm{T,jet}}<140$ GeV/$c$, as well as the jet cross-section ratios of different $R$…
With the HIJING/BBbar v2.0 heavy ion event generator, we explore the phenomenological consequences of several high parton density dynamical effects predicted in central Pb+Pb collisions at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) energies. These include (1) jet quenching due to parton energy loss (dE/dx), (2) strangeness and hyperon enhancement due to strong longitudinal color field (SCF), and (3) enhancement of baryon-to-meson ratios due to baryon-anti-baryon junctions (JJbar) loops and SCF effects. The saturation/minijet cutoff scale p0(s)and effective string tension kappa(s,A) are constrained by our…
This article presents groomed jet substructure measurements in pp and Pb$-$Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\rm NN}} = 5.02$ TeV with the ALICE detector. The Soft Drop grooming algorithm provides access to the hard parton splittings inside a jet by removing soft wide-angle radiation. We report the groomed jet momentum splitting fraction, $z_{\rm g}$, and the (scaled) groomed jet radius, $θ_{\rm g}$. Charged-particle jets are reconstructed at midrapidity using the anti-kT algorithm with resolution parameters $R = 0.2$ and $R = 0.4$. In heavy-ion collisions, the large underlying event poses a challeng…
The transverse momentum ($p_{\rm T}$) spectrum and nuclear modification factor ($R_{\rm AA}$) of reconstructed jets in 0-10% and 10-30% central Pb-Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\rm NN}}=2.76$ TeV were measured. Jets were reconstructed from charged and neutral particles, utilizing the ALICE tracking detectors and Electromagnetic Calorimeter (EMCal), with the anti-$k_{\rm T}$ jet algorithm with a resolution parameter of R=0.2. The jet $p_{\rm T}$ spectra are reported in the pseudorapidity interval of $|η_{\rm jet}|<0.5$ for $40<p_{\rm T,jet}<120$ GeV/$c$ in 0-10% and for $30<p_{\rm T,jet}<100$ GeV/…
The jet angularities are a class of jet substructure observables which characterize the angular and momentum distribution of particles within jets. These observables are sensitive to momentum scales ranging from perturbative hard scatterings to nonperturbative fragmentation into final-state hadrons. We report measurements of several groomed and ungroomed jet angularities in pp collisions at $\sqrt{s}=5.02$ TeV with the ALICE detector. Jets are reconstructed using charged particle tracks at midrapidity ($|η| < 0.9$). The anti-$k_{\rm T}$ algorithm is used with jet resolution parameters $R=0.2$ …
