The transverse momentum ($p_{\rm T}$) spectrum and nuclear modification factor ($R_{\rm AA}$) of reconstructed jets in 0-10% and 10-30% central Pb-Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\rm NN}}=2.76$ TeV were measured. Jets were reconstructed from charged and neutral particles, utilizing the ALICE tracking detectors and Electromagnetic Calorimeter (EMCal), with the anti-$k_{\rm T}$ jet algorithm with a resolution parameter of R=0.2. The jet $p_{\rm T}$ spectra are reported in the pseudorapidity interval of $|η_{\rm jet}|<0.5$ for $40<p_{\rm T,jet}<120$ GeV/$c$ in 0-10% and for $30<p_{\rm T,jet}<100$ GeV/$c$ in 10-30% collisions. Reconstructed jets were required to contain a leading charged particle with $p_{\rm T}>5$ GeV/$c$ to suppress jets constructed from the combinatorial background in Pb-Pb collisions. The effect of the leading charged particle requirement has been studied in both pp and Pb-Pb collisions and has been shown to have negligible effects on the $R_{\rm AA}$ within the uncertainties of the measurement. The nuclear modification factor is obtained by dividing the jet spectrum measured in Pb-Pb by that in pp collisions scaled by the number of independent nucleon-nucleon collisions estimated using a Glauber model. $R_{\rm AA}$ is found to be $0.28\pm0.04$ in 0-10% and $0.35\pm0.04$ in 10-30% collisions, independent of $p_{\rm T,jet}$ within the uncertainties of the measurement. The observed suppression is in fair agreement with expectations from two model calculations with different approaches to jet quenching.
The first measurements of the invariant differential cross sections of inclusive $π^0$ and $η$ meson production at mid-rapidity in proton-proton collisions at $\sqrt{s}=0.9$ TeV and $\sqrt{s}=7$ TeV are reported. The $π^0$ measurement covers the ranges $0.4<p_T<7$ GeV/$c$ and $0.3<p_T<25$ GeV/$c$ for these two energies, respectively. The production of $η$ mesons was measured at $\sqrt{s}=7$ TeV in the range $0.4<p_T<15$ GeV/$c$. Next-to-Leading Order perturbative QCD calculations, which are consistent with the $π^0$ spectrum at $\sqrt{s}=0.9$ TeV, overestimate those of $π^0$ and $η$ mesons at …
The self-normalised $ψ(2S)$ yields as a function of charged-particle multiplicity in pp collisions at $\sqrt{s}$ = 13 TeV and p--Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\mathrm{NN}}}$= 8.16 TeV, using the ALICE detector at the CERN LHC, are reported in these proceedings. This measurement represents one of the main tools to understand the role of multiparton interactions and their influence on charmonium production in small systems, i.e pp and pA collisions. The ratio of $ψ(2S)$-over-J/$ψ$ as a function of charged-particle multiplicity is also presented for both pp and p--Pb collisions. The comparison to th…
Heavy Flavour decay muon production at forward rapidity in pp collisions at \sqrt{s}= 7 TeV and in Pb-Pb collisions at \sqrt{s_{NN}}=2.76 TeV with the ALICE experiment
The nuclear modification factor, $R_{\rm AA}$, of the prompt charmed mesons ${\rm D^0}$, ${\rm D^+}$ and ${\rm D^{*+}}$, and their antiparticles, was measured with the ALICE detector in Pb-Pb collisions at a centre-of-mass energy $\sqrt{s_{\rm NN}} = 2.76$ TeV in two transverse momentum intervals, $5<p_{\rm T}<8$ GeV/$c$ and $8<p_{\rm T}<16$ GeV/$c$, and in six collision centrality classes. The $R_{\rm AA}$ shows a maximum suppression of a factor of 5-6 in the 10% most central collisions. The suppression and its centrality dependence are compatible within uncertainties with those of charged pi…
The azimuthal correlations of D mesons and charged particles were measured with the ALICE detector in pp collisions at $\sqrt{s}=7$ TeV and p-Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\rm NN}}=5.02$ TeV at the Large Hadron Collider. D$^0$, D$^+$, and D$^{*+}$ mesons and their charge conjugates with transverse momentum $3<p_{\rm T}<16$ GeV/$c$ and rapidity in the nucleon-nucleon centre-of-mass system $|y_{\rm cms}|<0.5$ (pp collisions) and $-0.96<y_{\rm cms}<0.04$ (p-Pb collisions) were correlated to charged particles with $p_{\rm T}>0.3$ Gev/$c$. The properties of the correlation peak induced by the jet cont…
The two-particle differential transverse momentum correlator $G_{2}$ recently measured in Pb$-$Pb collisions, emerged as a powerful tool to gain insight into particle production mechanisms and to infer transport properties such as the ratio of shear viscosity to entropy density of the medium created in Pb$-$Pb collisions. In this poster, recent ALICE measurements of this correlator in pp collisions at $\sqrt{s}=7$ and p$-$Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\rm NN}}=5.02$ TeV are presented to search, in particular, for viscous effects expected to arise in fluid-like systems produced in these collisions…
The production of beauty hadrons was measured via semi-leptonic decays at mid-rapidity with the ALICE detector at the LHC in the transverse momentum interval $1<p_{\rm T}<8$ GeV/$c$ in minimum-bias p-Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\rm NN}}=5.02$ TeV and in $1.3<p_{\rm T}<8$ GeV/$c$ in the 20% most central Pb-Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\rm NN}}=2.76$ TeV. The pp reference spectra at $\sqrt{s}=5.02$ TeV and $\sqrt{s}=2.76$ TeV, needed for the calculation of the nuclear modification factors $R_{\rm pPb}$ and $R_{\rm PbPb}$, were obtained by a pQCD-driven scaling of the cross section of electrons from…
The ALICE experiment has measured the inclusive J/$ψ$ production in Pb-Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\mathrm{NN}} } = 2.76$ TeV down to zero transverse momentum in the rapidity range $2.5 < y < 4$. A suppression of the inclusive J/$ψ$ yield in Pb-Pb is observed with respect to the one measured in pp collisions scaled by the number of binary nucleon-nucleon collisions. The nuclear modification factor, integrated over the 0-80% most central collisions, is $0.545 \pm 0.032 \rm{(stat.)} \pm 0.083 \rm{(syst.)}$ and does not exhibit a significant dependence on the collision centrality. These features a…
Heavy quarks, i.e. charm and beauty, are produced on a shorter time scale with respect to the strongly-interacting matter produced in high-energy heavy-ion collisions. Therefore, they are unique probes to study the mechanisms of parton energy loss, hadronisation and thermalization in the hot and dense state of matter. The nuclear modification factor ($R_{\rm AA}$) and the elliptic flow ($v_{2}$) are two of the main experimental observables that allow us to investigate the interaction strength of heavy quarks with the medium. The most recent results on heavy-flavour production and elliptic flow…
Reference heavy flavour cross sections in pp collisions at sqrt(s) = 2.76 TeV, using a pQCD-driven sqrt(s)-scaling of ALICE measurements at sqrt(s) = 7 TeV
ATLAS measurements of two-particle correlations are presented for $\sqrt{s} = 5.02$ and $13$ TeV $pp$ collisions and for $\sqrt{s_{\mathrm{NN}}} = 5.02$ TeV $p$+Pb collisions at the LHC. The correlation functions are measured as a function of relative azimuthal angle $Δϕ$, and pseudorapidity separation $Δη$, using charged particles detected within the pseudorapidity interval $|η|{<}2.5$. Azimuthal modulation in the long-range component of the correlation function, with $|Δη|{>}2$, is studied using a template fitting procedure to remove a "back-to-back" contribution to the correlation function …
The transverse momentum spectra of D$^0$ mesons from b hadron decays are measured at midrapidity ($|y|$ $<$ $1$) in pp and PbPb collisions at a nucleon-nucleon center of mass energy of 5.02 TeV with the CMS detector at the LHC. The D$^0$ mesons from b hadron decays are distinguished from prompt D$^0$ mesons by their decay topologies. In PbPb collisions, the B $\to$ D$^0$ yield is found to be suppressed in the measured $p_\mathrm{T}$ range from 2 to 100 GeV$/c$ as compared to pp collisions. The suppression is weaker than that of prompt D$^0$ mesons and charged hadrons for $p_\mathrm{T}$ around …
Local density fluctuations are expected to scale as a universal power-law when the system approaches critical point. Such power-law fluctuations are studied within the framework of intermittency through the measurement of normalized factorial moments in ($η$, $ϕ$) phase space. Observations and results from the intermittency analysis performed for charged particles in Pb-Pb collisions using PYTHIA8/Angantyr at 2.76 TeV and 5.02 TeV are reported. We observe no scaling behaviour in the particle generation for any of the centrality studied in narrow p$_T$ bins. The scaling exponent $ν$ shows no de…
The transverse structure of jets was studied via jet fragmentation transverse momentum ($j_{\rm{T}}$) distributions, obtained using two-particle correlations in proton-proton and proton-lead collisions, measured with the ALICE experiment at the LHC. The highest transverse momentum particle in each event is used as the trigger particle and the region $3 < p_{\rm{Tt}} < 15$ GeV/$c$ is explored in this study. The measured distributions show a clear narrow Gaussian component and a wide non-Gaussian one. Based on Pythia simulations, the narrow component can be related to non-perturbative hadronizat…
We present measurements of charged jet cross sections and jet shape observables in leading jet in proton-proton (pp) collisions at sqrt(s) = 2.76 TeV with the ALICE detector at LHC. Jets are reconstructed at the midrapidity from charged particle using sequential recombination anti-kT jet finding algorithm for various R values. The results are compared to measurements from HERWIG, PHOJET and different tunes of PYTHIA6 and earlier measurements at 7 TeV.
The production of the $Λ$(1520) baryonic resonance has been measured at midrapidity in inelastic pp collisions at $\sqrt{s}$ = 7 TeV and in p-Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\rm{NN}}}$ = 5.02 TeV for non-single diffractive events and in multiplicity classes. The resonance is reconstructed through its hadronic decay channel $Λ$(1520) $\rightarrow$ pK$^{-}$ and the charge conjugate with the ALICE detector. The integrated yields and mean transverse momenta are calculated from the measured transverse momentum distributions in pp and p-Pb collisions. The mean transverse momenta follow mass ordering as p…
Relativistic heavy-ion collisions provide a unique opportunity to search for parity violation in non-central collisions. This could lead to charge separation perpendicular to the reaction plane. An event-by-event measurement of charge separation effect in Pb-Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\rm NN}}$ = 2.76 TeV using Sliding Dumbbell Method (SDM) is discussed in this article.
Transverse momentum ($p_{\rm T}$) spectra of charged particles at mid-pseudorapidity in Xe-Xe collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\rm NN}}$ = 5.44 TeV measured with the ALICE apparatus at the Large Hadron Collider are reported. The kinematic range $0.15 < p_{\rm T} < 50$ GeV/$c$ and $|η| < 0.8$ is covered. Results are presented in nine classes of collision centrality in the 0-80% range. For comparison, a pp reference at the collision energy of $\sqrt{s}$ = 5.44 TeV is obtained by interpolating between existing \pp measurements at $\sqrt{s}$ = 5.02 and 7 TeV. The nuclear modification factors in central Xe-…
The $p_{\rm T}$-differential production cross sections of the prompt (B feed-down subtracted) charmed mesons D$^0$, D$^+$, and D$^{*+}$ in the rapidity range $|y|<0.5$, and for transverse momentum $1< p_{\rm T} <12$ GeV/$c$, were measured in proton-proton collisions at $\sqrt{s} = 2.76$ TeV with the ALICE detector at the Large Hadron Collider. The analysis exploited the hadronic decays D$^0 \rightarrow $K$π$, D$^+ \rightarrow $K$ππ$, D$^{*+} \rightarrow $D$^0π$, and their charge conjugates, and was performed on a $L_{\rm int} = 1.1$ nb$^{-1}$ event sample collected in 2011 with a minimum-bias …
Measurement of Z-boson production in p-Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\mathrm{NN}}}=8.16$ TeV and Pb-Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\mathrm{NN}}}=5.02$ TeV is reported. It is performed in the dimuon decay channel, through the detection of muons with pseudorapidity $-4 < η_μ < -2.5$ and transverse momentum $p_{\rm T}^μ > 20$ GeV/$c$ in the laboratory frame. The invariant yield and nuclear modification factor are measured for opposite-sign dimuons with invariant mass $60 < m^{μμ} < 120$ GeV$c^2$ and rapidity $2.5 < y_{cms}^{μμ} < 4$. They are presented as a function of rapidity and, for the Pb-Pb collis…
The production yield of the $Λ(1520)$ baryon resonance is measured at mid-rapidity in Pb-Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\rm NN}}$ = 2.76 TeV with the ALICE detector at the LHC. The measurement is performed in the $Λ(1520)\rightarrow {\rm pK}^{-}$ (and charge conjugate) hadronic decay channel as a function of the transverse momentum ($p_{\rm T}$) and collision centrality. The $p_{\rm T}$-integrated production rate of $Λ(1520)$ relative to $Λ$ in central collisions is suppressed by about a factor of 2 with respect to peripheral collisions. This is the first observation of the suppression of a baryon…
The relative J/$ψ$ yields as a function of relative charged-particle multiplicity in pp collisions at $\sqrt{s}$ = 5.02 TeV, measured at forward rapidity, are investigated for the first time. A linear increase of the relative J/$ψ$ yield with respect to multiplicity is observed. A comparison of the findings of the present work with the available ALICE measurements obtained in pp collisions at $\sqrt{s}$ = 13 TeV at forward and mid-rapidity indicates that the increase of J/$ψ$ with multiplicity is independent of energy but exhibits a strong dependence on the rapidity gap between the J/$ψ$ and m…
We present multiplicity and pseudorapidity distributions of inclusive photons at forward rapidity in proton-lead (p-Pb) collisions at $\sqrt{s\rm_{NN}}$ = 5.02 TeV using the data obtained from Photon Multiplicity Detector (PMD) of ALICE. The centrality dependence of pseudorapidity distributions of inclusive photons is also studied. Results are compared with the previous ALICE measurements of charged-particle production and with theoretical predictions from Monte Carlo models, DPMJET and HIJING.
The nuclear modification factor RAA and the azimuthal anisotropy coefficient v[2] of prompt and nonprompt (i.e. those from decays of b hadrons) J/psi mesons, measured from PbPb and pp collisions at sqrt(s[NN]) = 2.76 TeV at the LHC, are reported. The results are presented in several event centrality intervals and several kinematic regions, for transverse momenta pt > 6.5 GeV/c and rapidity abs(y) < 2.4, extending down to pt = 3 GeV/c in the 1.6 < abs(y) < 2.4 range. The v[2] of prompt J/psi is found to be nonzero, but with no strong dependence on centrality, rapidity, or pt over the full kinem…
The production of the prompt charm mesons $D^0$, $D^+$, $D^{*+}$, and their antiparticles, was measured with the ALICE detector in Pb-Pb collisions at the LHC, at a centre-of-mass energy $\sqrt{s_{NN}}=2.76$ TeV per nucleon--nucleon collision. The $p_{\rm T}$-differential production yields in the range $2<p_{\rm T}<16$ GeV/c at central rapidity, $|y|<0.5$, were used to calculate the nuclear modification factor $R_{AA}$ with respect to a proton-proton reference obtained from the cross section measured at $\sqrt{s}=7$ TeV and scaled to $\sqrt{s}=2.76$ TeV. For the three meson species, $R_{AA}$ s…
We report on the measurement of the inclusive $Υ$(1S) production in Pb-Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\rm NN}}=2.76$ TeV carried out at forward rapidity ($2.5<y<4$) and down to zero transverse momentum using its $μ^{+}μ^{-}$ decay channel with the ALICE detector at the Large Hadron Collider. A strong suppression of the inclusive $Υ$(1S) yield is observed with respect to pp collisions scaled by the number of independent nucleon-nucleon collisions. The nuclear modification factor, for events in the 0-90$\%$ centrality range, amounts to $0.30\pm0.05{\rm (stat)}\pm0.04{\rm (syst)}$. The observed $Υ$(1…
The study of charm production in heavy-ion collisions is considered an excellent probe for the properties of the hot and dense medium created in heavy-ion collisions. Measurements of D-meson nuclear modification can provide strong constraints into the mechanisms of in-medium energy loss and charm flow in the medium. The measurement of $D^0$ elliptic flow in pPb collisions helps us understand the strength of charm quarks coupling to significantly reduced systems which demonstrate hydrodynamic properties. In this paper, the measurements of the $D^0$ nuclear modification factor in PbPb collisions…
We study different processes responsible for the modification of quarkonia yields in the medium produced in PbPb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}$ = 5.02 TeV. The quarkonia and heavy flavour cross sections are estimated using the measurements in pp collisions at LHC energies and shadowing corrections are obtained using the EPS09 parametrizations. A kinetic model is used which incorporates quarkonia suppression inside the Quark Gluon Plasma (QGP), suppression due to hadronic comovers, and regeneration from recombination of heavy quark pairs. The quarkonia dissociation cross section due to gluon col…
We compute the QGP suppression of Upsilon(1s), Upsilon(2s), Upsilon(3s), chi_b1, and chi_b2 states in sqrt(s_NN)=2.76 TeV Pb-Pb collisions. Using the suppression of each of these states, we estimate the inclusive R_AA for the Upsilon(1s) and Upsilon(2s) states as a function of N_part, y, and p_T including the effect of excited state feed down. We find that our model provides a reasonable description of preliminary CMS results for the N_part-, y-, and p_T-dependence of R_AA for both the Upsilon(1s) and Upsilon(2s). Comparing to our previous model predictions, we find a flatter rapidity dependen…
The production yields of Upsilon(1S), Upsilon(2S), and Upsilon(3S) quarkonium states are measured through their decays into muon pairs in the CMS detector, in PbPb and pp collisions at the centre-of-mass energy per nucleon pair of 2.76 TeV. The data correspond to integrated luminosities of 166 inverse microbarns and 5.4 inverse picobarns for PbPb and pp collisions, respectively. Differential production cross sections are reported as functions of Upsilon rapidity y up to 2.4, and transverse momentum pT up to 20 GeV/c. A strong centrality-dependent suppression is observed in PbPb relative to pp …
We present the ALICE results on the nuclear modification factor and elliptic flow of electrons and muons from open heavy-flavour hadron decays at mid-rapidity and forward rapidity in Pb--Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\rm NN}}$ = 2.76 and 5.02 TeV for different centrality intervals. The results are compared to model calculations that include interactions of heavy quarks with the medium.
We present a calculation of the elliptic flow of electrons from beauty-hadron decays in semi-central Pb--Pb collisions at centre-of-mass energy per colliding nucleon pair, represented as $\sqrt{s_{\rm NN}}$, of 2.76 TeV. The result is obtained by the subtraction of the charm quark contribution in the elliptic flow of electrons from heavy-flavour hadron decays in semi-central Pb--Pb collisions at \snn = 2.76 TeV recently made publicly available by the ALICE collaboration.
