The quark parts of the gravitational form factors of hyperons are calculated by means of the light-cone QCD sum rule. In the calculations, the distribution amplitudes (DAs) of $Σ$, $Ξ$ and $Λ$ together with the general forms of their interpolating currents as well as the quark part of the energy-momentum tensor current are used. These form factors can provide information on their mass and distributions of the angular momentum, energy and pressure inside the hyperons. It is obtained that the $Q^2$ dependencies of the hyperon gravitational form factors are nicely characterized by a multipole fit function. Using the fits of these form factors, some mechanical properties such as the mechanical radius of the hyperons and the pressure and energy distributions at the center of these particles are obtained. The obtained results can help us in better understanding of the internal structures of these baryons and the QCD as theory of the strong interaction.
We study single-particle potential of hyperons in nuclear medium starting from QCD. First we carry out lattice QCD numerical simulation to extract baryon-baryon interactions from QCD by means of the HAL QCD method. We employ a full QCD gauge configuration ensemble at almost physical point so that hadron masses are nearly physical, e.g. pion mass is 146 MeV, kaon mass is 525 MeV, and nucleon mass is 956 MeV. Then, with some simplifications, we apply the obtained hyperon interactions to the Brueckner-Hartree-Fock theory and calculate single-particle potential of hyperons in nuclear medium $U_{Y}…
Hyperon-nucleon interactions serve as basic inputs to studies of hypernuclear physics and dense (neutron) stars. Unfortunately, a precise understanding of these important quantities have lagged far behind that of the nucleon-nucleon interaction due to lack of high precision experimental data. Historically, hyperon-nucleon interactions are either formulated in quark models or meson exchange models. In recent years, lattice QCD simulations and chiral effective field theory approaches start to offer new insights from first principles. In the present work, we contrast the state of art lattice QCD …
We discuss the status of current dynamical lattice QCD simulations in connection to the emerging results on the strange and charmed baryon spectrum, excited states of the nucleon and the investigation of the structure of scalar mesons.
In this work we outline a program for lattice QCD that would provide a first step toward understanding the strong and weak interactions of strange baryons. The study of hypernuclear physics has provided a significant amount of information regarding the structure and weak decays of light nuclei containing one or two Lambda's, and Sigma's. From a theoretical standpoint, little is known about the hyperon-nucleon interaction, which is required input for systematic calculations of hypernuclear structure. Furthermore, the long-standing discrepancies in the P-wave amplitudes for nonleptonic hyperon d…
We revisit the holographic description of strange baryons in the context of the Sakai-Sugimoto construction, by considering the strange quark mass as heavy. Hyperons are described by a massive $(K,K^*)$ multiplet, bound to a light-flavor instanton in bulk, much in the spirit of the Callan-Klebanov construction. The modular Hamiltonian maps onto the Landau problem, a charged particle in a 2-dimensional external magnetic field, induced by the bulk Chern-Simons interaction, plus spin-orbit coupling. The ensuing holographic hyperon spectrum compares fairly with the empirical one. The holographic s…
We calculate the isovector axial vector form factors of the octet-decuplet hyperon transitions within the framework of the light-cone QCD sum rules (LCSR) to leading in QCD and including higher-twist corrections. In particular, we motivate the most recent version of the $Σ$ baryon distribution amplitudes which are examined up to twist-6 based on conformal symmetry of the massless QCD Lagrangian.
We present results for the hyperon vector form factor f_1 for $Ξ^0 \rightarrow Σ^+ l\barν$ and $Σ^- \rightarrow n l\barν$ semileptonic decays from dynamical lattice QCD with domain-wall quarks. Simulations are performed on the 2+1 flavor gauge configurations generated by the RBC and UKQCD Collaborations with a lattice cutoff of 1/a = 1.7 GeV. Our preliminary results, which are calculated at the lightest sea quark mass (pion mass down to approximately 330 MeV), show that a sign of the second-order correction of SU(3) breaking on hyperon vector coupling f_1(0) is likely negative.
Despite measurements which date more than 20 years ago, no straightforward solution of the ratio of the parity-conserving (P-wave) to parity- violating (S-wave) decays of the hyperons has been obtained. Here we use two 2-point methods in QCD sum rules to examine the problem. We find that resonance contributions are needed to fit the data, similar to a chiral perturbation theory treatment.
It has been suggested to use the production of Lambda hyperons for investigating the nucleon spin structure. The viability of this idea depends crucially on the spin structure of the Lambda. Using nonperturbatively O(a) improved Wilson fermions in the quenched approximation we have studied matrix elements of two-quark operators in the Lambda. We present results for the axial vector current, which give us the contributions of the u, d, and s quarks to the Lambda spin.
We study single-particle potential of Lambda, Sigma, and Xi hyperons in nucleonic matter starting from the fundamental theory of the strong interaction, QCD. First we carry out a lattice QCD numerical simulation, and extract baryon-baryon interactions from QCD by means of the HAL QCD method. We employ a full QCD gauge configuration ensemble at almost physical point so that we can study the physical world, hence mass of hadrons are nearly physical, for example, pion mass is 146 MeV, kaon mass is 525 MeV, and nucleon mass is 958 MeV. Then, we apply the obtained hyperon interactions to the Brueck…
We present the first continuum extrapolation of the hyperon octet axial couplings ($g_{ΣΣ}$ and $g_{ΞΞ}$) from $N_f=2+1+1$ lattice QCD. These couplings are important parameters in the low-energy effective field theory description of the octet baryons and fundamental to the nonleptonic decays of hyperons and to hyperon-hyperon and hyperon-nucleon scattering with application to neutron stars. We use clover lattice fermion action for the valence quarks with sea quarks coming from configurations of $N_f=2+1+1$ highly improved staggered quarks (HISQ) generated by MILC Collaboration. Our work includ…
I review recent progress in calculating |V_{us}| from lattice QCD kaon and hyperon systems. A preliminary result from the first dynamical calculation in the hyperon channel is included.
We present the first result for the hyperon vector form factor f_1 for Xi^0 -> Sigma^+ l bar{nu} and Sigma^- -> n l bar{nu} semileptonic decays from fully dynamical lattice QCD. The calculations are carried out with gauge configurations generated by the RBC and UKQCD collaborations with (2+1)-flavors of dynamical domain-wall fermions and the Iwasaki gauge action at beta=2.13, corresponding to a cutoff 1/a=1.73 GeV. Our results, which are calculated at the lighter three sea quark masses (the lightest pion mass down to approximately 330 MeV), show that a sign of the second-order correction of SU…
We address the issue of energy and charge dependence of global polarization of $Λ$ hyperons in peripheral $Au-Au$ collisions recently observed by the STAR collaboration at RHIC. We compare different contributions to the anomalous mechanism relating polarization to vorticity and hydrodynamic helicity in QCD matter. We stress that the suppression of the gravitational anomaly contribution in strongly correlated matter observed in lattice simulations confirms our earlier prediction of rapid decrease of polarization with increasing collision energy. Our mechanism leads to polarization of $\bar Λ$ o…
We study the spectrum of light baryons and hyperons as a function of temperature using lattice gauge theory methods. We find that masses of positive parity states are temperature independent, within errors, in the hadronic phase. The negative parity states decrease in mass as the temperature increases. Above the deconfining temperature, lattice correlators and spectral functions show a degeneracy between parity sectors, i.e. parity doubling. We apply our findings to an in-medium Hadron Resonance Gas model. The techniques used in this study include direct analysis of the hadronic correlation fu…
The low-energy neutron-Sigma^- interactions determine, in part, the role of the strange quark in dense matter, such as that found in astrophysical environments. The scattering phase shifts for this system are obtained from a numerical evaluation of the QCD path integral using the technique of Lattice QCD. Our calculations, performed at a pion mass of m_pi ~ 389 MeV in two large lattice volumes, and at one lattice spacing, are extrapolated to the physical pion mass using effective field theory. The interactions determined from QCD are consistent with those extracted from hyperon-nucleon experim…
We investigate the hyperon-nucleon interactions in the QCD sum rule starting from the nucleon matrix element of the hyperon correlation function. Through the dispersion relation, the correlation function in the operator product expansion (OPE) is related with its integral over the physical energy region. The dispersion integral around the hyperon-nucleon ($YN$) threshold is identified as a measure of the interaction strength in the $YN$ channel. The Wilson coefficients of the OPE for the hyperon correlation function are calculated. The obtained sum rules relate $YN$ interaction strengths to th…
Light-cone QCD sum rules to leading order in QCD are used to investigate the tensor form factors of the $Σ-Σ$, $Ξ-Ξ$ and $ Σ-Λ$ transitions in the range $1 GeV^2 \leq Q^2 \leq 10 GeV^2$. The DAs of $Σ$, $Ξ$ and $Λ$ baryon have been calculated without higher order terms. Then, study including higher order corrections have been done for $Σ$ and $Λ$ baryon. The result of form factors are obtained using these two DAs. We make a comparison with the predictions of the chiral quark soliton model.
New relations between QCD Borel sum rules for magnetic moments of Sigma^0 and Lambda hyperons are constructed. It is shown that starting from the sum rule for the Sigma^0 hyperon magnetic moment it is straightforward to obtain the corresponding sum rule for the Lambda hyperon magnetic moment et vice versa.
The hadron resonance gas (HRG) is a widely used description of matter under extreme conditions, e.g. in the context of heavy-ion phenomenology. Commonly used implementations of the HRG employ vacuum hadron masses throughout the hadronic phase and hence do not include possible in-medium effects. Here we investigate this issue, using nonperturbative lattice simulations employing the FASTSUM anisotropic Nf=2+1 ensembles. We study the fate of octet and decuplet baryons as the temperature increases, focussing in particular on the positive- and negative-parity groundstates. While the positive-parity…
The NKY coupling constant for $Y = Λ$ and $Σ$ is evaluated in a QCD sum rule calculation. We discuss and extend the result of a previous analysis in the $\rlap{/}{q}iγ_5$ structure and compare it with the result obtained with the use of the $γ_5 σ_{μν}$ structure. We find a huge violation of the SU(3) symmetry in the $γ_5 σ_{μν}$ structure.
We consider Lambda-hyperon production in the target-fragmentation region of semi-inclusive deep-inelastic scattering within the framework of fracture functions. We present a first attempt to determine the flavour and energy dependences of these non-perturbative distributions through a simultaneous QCD-based fit to available neutral- and charged-current semi-inclusive-DIS cross sections. Predictions based on the resulting nucleon-to-Lambda fracture functions are in good agreement with data and observables not included in the regression. The successful prediction of the $Q^2$ dependence of the L…

We study the production of polarized $Λ$-hyperons in electron-positron annihilation. We are particularly interested in the transverse-spin dependence of the cross section for unpolarized incident electron-positron pairs. At high energies this process may be described in the collinear twist-3 framework, where the hadronization transition of partons into a transversely polarized $Λ$-hyperon can be written in terms of collinear twist-3 fragmentation matrix elements. We calculate the hard partonic cross sections and interference terms in perturbative QCD to next-to-leading order accuracy. We find …
Spin correlations of $Λ$-hyperons embedded in the QCD strings formed in high energy collider experiments provide unique insight into their locality and entanglement features. We show from general considerations that while the Clauser-Horne-Shimony-Holt inequality is less stringent for such states, they provide a benchmark for quantum-to-classical transitions induced by varying i) the associated hadron multiplicity, ii) the spin of nucleons, iii) the separation in rapidity between pairs, and iv) the kinematic regimes accessed. These studies also enable the extraction of quantitative measures of…
Within finite-density QCD sum-rule approach we investigate the self-energies of $Σ$ hyperons propagating in nuclear matter from a correlator of $Σ$ interpolating fields evaluated in the nuclear matter ground state. We find that the Lorentz vector self-energy of the $Σ$ is similar to the nucleon vector self-energy. The magnitude of Lorentz scalar self-energy of the $Σ$ is also close to the corresponding value for nucleon; however, this prediction is sensitive to the strangeness content of the nucleon and to the assumed density dependence of certain four-quark condensate. The scalar and vector s…
New relations between QCD Borel sum rules for masses of Sigma^0 and Lambda hyperons are constructed. It is shown that starting from the sum rule for the Sigma^0 hyperon mass it is straightforward to obtain the corresponding sum rule for the Lambda hyperon mass and vice versa. We provide an investigation of the P-wave hyperons employing the field correlator method in QCD. This method allows to derive the Effective Hamiltonian successfully applied to the meson and ground state baryon spectra. The hyperon spectrum appears to be expressed through two parameters relevant to QCD, the string tension σ, the strong coupling constant α_s, and the bare strange quark mass m_s. Using these parameters a unified description of the ground and excited hyperon states is achieved. We also briefly consider the nucleon P-wave excitations. In particular, we predict that both the nucleon…
We systematically study the hadron longitudinal polarizations of the octet baryons at large $z$ from quark fragmentations in $e^+e^-$-annihilation, polarized charged lepton deep inelastic scattering (DIS) process, and neutrino (antineutrino) DIS process, based on predictions of quark distributions for the octet baryons in the SU(6) quark-spectator-diquark model and a perturbative QCD based counting rule analysis. We show that the $e^+e^-$-annihilation and polarized charged lepton DIS process are able to distinguish between the two different predictions of the hyperon polarizations. We also fin…
We show that the predicted hyperon masses in the topological soliton model are very sensitive to the value of the gluon condensate parameter that appears when the scale invariance and trace anomaly of QCD are taken into account by introduction of a dilaton field. This contrasts with the insensitivity of the soliton properties to the dilaton coupling. In order that the predicted strange and charmed hyperon spectra agree with the empirical ones the gluon condensate parameter has to be about (400 MeV)$^4$, which agrees with the result obtained from QCD sum rules. This implies that the bag formed …
We present results of an exploratory study of flavor SU(3) breaking effects in hyperon beta decays using domain wall fermions. From phenomenological point of view, the significance of this subject is twofold: (1) to extract the element $V_{us}$ of the Cabibbo-Kabayashi-Maskawa mixing matrix from the $ΔS=1$ decay process, and (2) to provide vital information to analysis of the strange quark fraction of the proton spin with the polarized deep inelastic scattering data. In this study, we explore the $Ξ^0 \to Σ^+$ beta decay, which is highly sensitive to the SU(3) breaking since this decay corresp…
We determine the hyperon vector couplings $f_1(0)$ for $Σ^{-}\rightarrow nl^-\bar{ν_l}$ and $Ξ^0\rightarrowΣ^{+}l^-\bar{ν_l}$ semileptonic decays in the continuum limit with (2+1)-flavors of dynamical domain-wall fermions, using the Iwasaki gauge action at two different lattice spacings of $a$=0.114(2) and 0.086(2) fm. A theoretical estimation of flavor SU(3)-breaking effect on the vector coupling is required to extract $V_{us}$ from the experimental rate of hyperon beta decays. We obtain the vector couplings $f_1(0)$ for $Σ\rightarrow N$ and $Ξ\rightarrow Σ$ beta-decays with an accuracy of le…
Second-order susceptibilities $χ^{11}_{ij}$ of baryon, electric, and strangeness, $B$, $Q$, and $S$, charges, are calculated in the Chiral Mean Field (CMF) model and compared to available lattice QCD data. The susceptibilities are sensitive to the short range repulsive interactions between different hadron species, especially to the hardcore repulsion of hyperons. Decreasing the hyperons size, as compared to the size of the non-strange baryons, does improve significantly the agreement of the CMF model results with the Lattice QCD data. The electric charge-dependent susceptibilities are sensiti…
A lecture given at the International School Seminar on {\sl Hadrons and Nuclei from QCD}, Tsuruga-Vladivostok-Sapporo, August-September, 1993. A realistic hyperon ($Y$)-nucleon ($N$) interaction based on the quark model and the one-boson-exchange potential is constructed. The Nijmegen potential model D with the SU(3) flavor symmetry is modified with a quark exchange interaction at the short-distance, which replaces the short-range repulsive core in the original model. The flavor-spin dependences of the short-range repulsion are qualitatively different from the original hard-core potential. We …
We discuss the result of a recent quenched lattice calculation of the K -> pi vector form factor at zero-momentum transfer, relevant for the determination of |V_us| from K-> pi l nu decays. Using suitable double ratios of three-point correlation functions, we show that it is possible to calculate this quantity at the percent-level precision. The leading quenched effects are corrected for by means of quenched chiral perturbation theory. The final result, f+(0) = 0.960 +- 0.005_stat +- 0.007_syst, turns out to be in good agreement with the old quark model estimate made by Leutwyler and Roos. In …
An approach to realize a hyperon as a bound-state of a two-flavor baryon and a kaon is considered in the context of the Sakai-Sugimoto model of holographic QCD, which approach has been known in the Skyrme model as the bound-state approach to strangeness. As a simple case of study, pseudo-scalar kaon is considered as fluctuation around a baryon. In this case, strongly-bound hyperon-states are absent, different from the case of the Skyrme model. Observed is a weak bound-state which would correspond to Λ(1405).
We calculate the inclusive production of a polarized $Λ$ or $\barΛ$ hyperon from the single longitudinally polarized proton and proton ($pp$) collision at RHIC. By comparing the data reported by the STAR Collaboration, we find that this process is sensitive to the polarization of strange and antistrange quarks of the proton in the experimental range. By introducing asymmetric coefficients with the minimization of $χ^2$, we further identify the asymmetry of the polarized strange-antistrange quarks in the proton sea and find that the first moment is $Δs \approx -0.025\pm 0.019$ for strange quark…
The nuclear density dependencies of the neutron and $Σ$ and $Λ$ hyperons are important inputs in the determination of the neutron star mass as the appearance of hyperons coming from strong attractions significantly changes the stiffness of the equation of state (EOS) at iso-spin asymmetric dense nuclear matter. In-medium spectral sum rules have been analyzed for the nucleon, $Σ$, and $Λ$ hyperon to investigate their properties up to slightly above the saturation nuclear matter density by using the linear density approximation for the condensates. The construction scheme of the interpolating fi…
The magnetic dipole moments of the spin-$\frac{1}{2}$ doubly heavy baryons are extracted in the framework of light-cone QCD sum rule. The electromagnetic properties of the doubly heavy baryons encodes important information of their internal structure. The results for the magnetic dipole moments of doubly heavy baryons acquired in this work are compared with the predictions of the other theoretical approaches.
This Workshop brought top experts, researchers, postdocs, and students from high-energy heavy ion interactions, lattice QCD and hadronic physics communities together. YSTAR2016 discussed the impact of "missing" hyperon resonances on QCD thermodynamics, on freeze-out in heavy ion collisions, on the evolution of early universe, and on the spectroscopy of strange particles. Recent studies that compared lattice QCD predictions of thermodynamic properties of quark-gluon plasma at freeze-out with calculations based on statistical hadron resonance gas models as well as experimentally measured ratios …
We perform a study on the struck quark to the $Λ$-hyperon fragmentation processes by taking into account the anti-quark fragmentations and intermediate decays from other hyperons. We concentrate on how the longitudinally polarized quark fragments to the longitudinally polarized $Λ$, how unpolarized quark and anti-quark fragment to the unpolarized $Λ$, and how quark and anti-quark fragment to the $Λ$ through the intermediate decay processes. We calculate the effective fragmentation functions in the light-cone SU(6) quark-spectator-diquark model via the Gribov-Lipatov relation, with the Melosh-W…
We explore how well one can probe the s quark chirality of the fundamental weak interaction of nonleptonic B decay using the spin-analyzing property of the Lambda hyperon. We present the prediction of the Standard Model as quantitatively as possible in a perturbative QCD picture avoiding detailed form-factor calculation involving quark mass corrections. A clean test of chirality will be possible with the decay B-bar to Lambda X.
The ground state masses and binding energies of the nucleon, $Λ^0$, $Λ^+_c$, $Λ^0_b$ are studied within a constituent quark QCD-inspired light-front model. The light-front Faddeev equations for the $Qqq$ composite spin 1/2 baryons, are derived and solved numerically. The experimental data for the masses are qualitatively described by a flavor independent effective interaction.
Longstanding puzzles in spin physics can be confronted at the high energies of the LHC. Will large s-quark and c-quark polarization be observed through heavy hyperon production? Top quarks are expected to have significant polarization - single spin asymmetries. How can such observations sort out possible QCD mechanisms? Leptoproduction provides a means to access those mechanisms. TMDs, GPDs and Fracture Functions all provide different model approaches to the polarization phenomena. Their implications will be described.
The NKY coupling constant for $Y = Λ$ and $Σ$ is evaluated in a QCD sum rule calculation. We study the Borel sum rule for the three point function of one pseudoscalar one nucleon and one hyperon current up to order six in the operator product expansion. The Borel transform is performed with respect to the nucleon and hyperon momenta, which are taken to be equal. We discuss and extend the result of a previous analysis in the $\rlap{/}{q}iγ_5$ structure and compare it with the result obtained with the use of the $γ_5 σ_{μν}$ structure. We find that the effect of pole-continuum transitions is ver…

Baryonic correlation functions are calculated within an effective chiral quark model motivated by the instanton liquid model of QCD. Using a flavour SU(3) symmetry for the local four-quark interaction and taking rotational zero modes for the quantization into account low-energy hadronic observables are in surprising agreement with experimental data. (Talk presented at the Conference on Hypernuclear and Strange Particle Physics (HYP94), Vancouver, B.C., Canada, 4.-8- Juli 1994)
The radiative B_c -> l nu gamma decay is investigated in the Standard Model in framework of the light cone QCD. The transition form factors and decay width are calculated. A comparison of light cone QCD and constituent quark model predictions on these quantities is presented.
