About Dissipative and Pseudo Port-Hamiltonian Formulations of Irreversible Newtonian Compressible Flows

In this paper we consider the problem of obtaining a general port-Hamiltonian formulation of Newtonian fluids. We propose the port-Hamiltonian models to describe the energy flux of rotational three-dimensional isentropic and non-isentropic fluids, whose boundary flows and efforts can be used for control purposes or for power-preserving interconnection with other physical systems. In case of two-dimensional flows, we include the considerations about the operators associated with fluid vorticity, preserving the port-Hamiltonian structure of the models proposed.

This paper presents (Lagrangian) variational formulations for single and multicomponent semi-compressible fluids with both reversible (entropy-conserving) and irreversible (entropy-generating) processes. Cascades and Dissipative Anomalies in Compressible Fluid Turbulence

We investigate dissipative anomalies in a turbulent fluid governed by the compressible Navier-Stokes equation. We follow an exact approach pioneered by Onsager, which we explain as a non-perturbative application of the principle of renormalization-group invariance. In the limit of high Reynolds and Péclet numbers, the flow realizations are found to be described as distributional or "coarse-grained" solutions of the compressible Euler equations, with standard conservation laws broken by turbulent anomalies. Geometric and energy-aware decomposition of the Navier-Stokes equations: A port-Hamiltonian approach

A port-Hamiltonian model for compressible Newtonian fluid dynamics is presented in entirely coordinate-independent geometric fashion. This is achieved by use of tensor-valued differential forms that allow to describe describe the interconnection of the power preserving structure which underlies the motion of perfect fluids to a dissipative port which encodes Newtonian constitutive relations of shear and bulk stresses. The relevant diffusion and the boundary terms characterizing the Navier-Stokes equations on a general Riemannian manifold arise naturally from the proposed construction.

A hyperbolic model for viscous Newtonian flows

We discuss a pure hyperbolic alternative to the Navier-Stokes equations, which are of parabolic type. As a result of the substitution of the concept of the viscosity coefficient by a microphysics-based temporal characteristic, particle settled life (PSL) time, it becomes possible to formulate a model for viscous fluids in a form of first order hyperbolic partial differential equations.
