An exact analytic solution for two two-level atoms coupled with a multi-photon single-mode electromagnetic cavity field in the presence of the Stark shift is derived. We assume that the field is initially prepared in a coherent state and the two atoms are initially prepared in an excited state. Considering the atomic level shifts generated by the Stark shift effect, the dynamical behavior of both quantum coherence (QC) measured using a quantum Jensen-Shannon divergence and of quantum correlations captured by quantum discord (QD) are investigated. It is shown that the intensity-dependent Stark-shift in the cavity and the number of coherent state photons plays a key role in enhancing or destroying both QC and QD during the process of intrinsic decoherence. We remarked that increasing the Stark-shift parameters, the frequencies of the transition for the mode of the cavity field, and photons number destroy both the amount of QC and QD and effected their periodicity. More importantly, QC and QD exhibit similar behavior and both show a revival phenomenon. We believe that the present work shows that the quantum information protocols based on physical resources in optical systems could be controlled by adjusting the Stark-shift parameters.
We propose a robust scheme to generate single-photon Fock states and atom-photon and atom-atom entanglement in atom-cavity systems. We also present a scheme for quantum networking between two cavity nodes using an atomic channel. The mechanism is based on Stark-chirped rapid adiabatic passage (SCRAP) and half-SCRAP processes in a microwave cavity. The engineering of these states depends on the design of the adiabatic dynamics through the static and dynamic Stark shifts.
A general scheme for rotational cooling of diatomic heteronuclear molecules is proposed. It uses a superconducting microwave cavity to enhance the spontaneous decay via Purcell effect. Rotational cooling can be induced by sequentially tuning each rotational transition to cavity resonance, starting from the highest transition level to the lowest using an electric field. Electrostatic multipoles can be used to provide large confinement volume with essentially homogeneous background electric field.
We present a scheme to realise the basic two-quibit logic gates such as quantum phase gate and controlle-NOT gate using a detuned optical cavity interacting with a three-level Raman system. We discuss the role of Stark shifts which are as important as the terms leading to two-photon transition. The operation of the proposed logic gates involves metastable states of the atom and hence is not affected by spontaneous emission. These ideas can be extended to produce multiparticle entanglement.
We propose a theoretical scheme to achieve strong photon blockade via a single atom in cavity. By utilizing optical Stark shift, the dressed-state splitting between higher and lower branches is enhanced, which results in significant increasing for lower (higher) branch and decreasing for higher (lower) branch at the negative (positive) Stark shift, and dominates the time-evolution of photon number oscillations as well. Furthermore, the two-photon excitation is suppressed via quantum interference under optimal phase and Rabi frequency of an external microwave field. It is shown that the interpl…
A collective system of atoms in a high quality cavity can be described by a nonlinear interaction which arises due to the Lamb shift of the energy levels due to the cavity vacuum [Agarwal et al., Phys. Rev. A 56, 2249 (1997)]. We show how this collective interaction can be used to perform quantum logic. In particular we produce schemes to realize CNOT gates not only for two-qubit but also for three-qubit systems. We also discuss realizations of Toffoli gates. Our effective Hamiltonian is also realized in other systems such as trapped ions or magnetic molecules.
We study the entanglement properties of two three-level Rydberg atoms passing through a single-mode cavity. The interaction of an atom with the cavity field allows the atom to make a transition from the upper most (lower most) to the lower most (upper most) level by emission (absoprtion) of two photons via the middle level. We employ an effective Hamiltonian that describes the system with a Stark shifted two-photon atomic transition. We compute the entanglement of formation of the joint two-atom state as a function of Rabi angle $gt$. It is shown that the Stark shift can be used to enhance the…
We present an experimental proposal to achieve a strong photon blockade by employing electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT) with single alkaline-earth-metal atom trapped in an optical cavity. In the presence of optical Stark shift, both second-order correlation function and cavity transmission exhibit asymmetric structures between the red and blue sidebands of the cavity. For a weak control field, the photon quantum statistics for the coherent transparency window (i.e. atomic quasi-dark state resonance) are insensitive to the Stark shift, which should also be immune to the spontaneous …
In this paper we study the dynamics in the general case for a Tavis Cummings atom in a non-uniform cavity. In addition to the dynamical Stark shift, the center-of-mass motion of the atom and the recoil effect are considered in both - the weak and the strong cavity atom coupling regimes. It is shown that the spatial motion of the atom inside the cavity in the resonant case leads to a transition between topologically different solutions. This effect is manifested by a singularity in the inter-level transition spectrum. In the non-resonant case, the spatial motion of the atom leads to a switching…
We calculate the emission spectra, the Glauber $g^{(2)}$ function, and the entanglement of formation for a few two-level emitters coupled to a single cavity mode and subject to an external laser-excitation. To evaluate these quantities we couple the system to environmental degrees of freedom which leads to dissipative dynamics. Because of the periodic time-dependence of the system Hamiltonian, the coefficients of the (Markovian) master equation are constant if Floquet states are used as the computational basis. Studying the emission spectra we show that the dynamic Stark effect, i.e., the shif…
We present the dissipative dynamics of the field of two-photon Jaynes-Cummings model (JCM) with Stark shift in dispersive approximation and investigate the influence of dissipation on entanglement. We show the coherence properties of the field can be affected by the dissipative cavity when nonlinear two-photon process is involved.
We consider the problem of quantum decoherence in cavity QED devices and investigate the possibility to preserve a Schroedinger cat as a coherent superposition along the time.
Quantum coherence and non-Markovianity of an atom in dissipative cavity under weak measurement are investigated in this work. We find that, the quantum coherence obviously depends on the atomic initial state, the strength of the weak measurement and its reversal, the atom-cavity coupling constant and the non-Markovian effecct. The more obvious the weak measurement effect is, the better the protection of coherence is. The quantum coherence is preserved more efficiently for lager the atom-cavity coupling. The stronger the non-Markovian effect, the more slowly the coherence reduces. This is, the …
Various quantum phase transitions in the anisotropic Rabi-Stark model with both the nonlinear Stark coupling and the linear dipole coupling between a two-level system and a single-mode cavity are studied in this work. The first-order quantum phase transitions are detected by the level crossing of the ground-state and the first-excited state with the help of the pole structure of the transcendental functions derived by the Bogoliubov operators approach. As the nonlinear Stark coupling is the same as the cavity frequency, this model can be solved by mapping to an effective quantum oscillator. Al…
The resonance frequency of an InAs quantum dot strongly coupled to a GaAs photonic crystal cavity was electrically controlled via quantum confined Stark effect. Stark shifts up to 0.3meV were achieved using a lateral Schottky electrode that created a local depletion region at the location of the quantum dot. We report switching of a probe laser coherently coupled to the cavity up to speeds as high as 150MHz, limited by the RC constant of the transmission line. The coupling rate and the magnitude of the Stark shift with electric field were investigated while coherently probing the system.
The rigorous resource framework of quantum coherence has been set up recently and excited a wide variety of interests. Here we show that a quantum cavity optomechanical system, as an emerging platform, can behave with a certain value of quantum coherence at a macroscopic scale. We also find that the difference between the total optomechanical coherence and the sum of the optical and the mechanical coherence just equals their mutual information. Motivated by the detection of the optomechanical entanglement, an experimentally feasible scheme to probe the optomechanical coherence is proposed.
Coherence has been remaining a key resource for numerous applications of quantum physics ranging from quantum metrology to quantum information. Here, we report a theoretical work on how maximally created coherence results in the squeezing of cavity field coupled to a coherently driven single quantum dot. We employ a recently developed polaron master equation theory for accurately incorporating the impact of exciton-phonon coupling on squeezing.
We theoretically and experimentally demonstrate coherence phenomena in optical parametric amplification inside a cavity. The mode splitting in transmission spectra of phase-sensitive optical parametric amplifier is observed. Especially, we show a very narrow dip and peak, which are the shape of $δ$ function, appear in the transmission profile. The origin of the coherence phenomenon in this system is the interference between the harmonic pump field and the subharmonic seed field in cooperation with dissipation of the cavity.
On-chip nanophotonic cavities will advance quantum information science and measurement because they enable efficient interaction between photons and long-lived solid-state spins, such as those associated with rare-earth ions in crystals. The enhanced photon-ion interaction creates new opportunities for all-optical control using the ac Stark shift. Toward this end, we characterize the ac Stark interaction between off-resonant optical fields and Nd$^{3+}$-ion dopants in a photonic crystal resonator fabricated from yttrium orthovanadate (YVO$_4$). Using photon echo techniques, at a detuning of 16…
We have created a quantum three-level ladder system with the cavity dispersive energy level in a superconducting circuit quantum electrodynamics system consisting of a transmon qubit and a cavity, and have directly observed the Autler-Townes splitting effect instead of representing it by the probability of the qubit being at each level. A coupler tone is applied on the transition between the second excited state of transmon and cavity dispersive level, while the cavity spectrum is probed. A doublet transmission and anormalous dispersion spectrum of the cavity level is clearly shown. The invers…
In this work, we investigate quantum Fisher information(QFI) and quantum coherence(QC) of an atom in dissipative cavity. In zero temperature reservior and with one excitation number, we obtain the analytical solutions of QFI and QC as well as their relationship for Ohmic and Lorentzian reservoir, respectively. The results show that both of the atom-cavity coupling and the cavity-reservoir coupling can effectively protect QFI and QC. Especially, QFI and QC will tend to their stable values when the atom-cavity coupling or the cavity-reservoir coupling is larger than a certain value. QC can augme…
We study the dynamical Casimir effect in the presence of a finite coherence time, which is associated with a finite quality factor of the optical cavity. We use the time refraction model, where a fixed cavity with a modulated optical medium, replaces the empty cavity with a vibrating mirror. Temporal coherence is described with the help of cavity quasi-mode operators. Asymptotic expressions for the number of photon pairs generated from vacuum are derived.
We show that, under certain conditions, the micromaser can act as an effective source of highly correlated atoms. It is possible to create an extended robust entanglement between two successive, initially unentangled atoms passing through a cavity filled with with a nonlinear medium taking into consideration a slight level shift. Information is transfered from the cavity to the atoms in order to build up entanglement. The scheme has an advantage over conventional creation of entanglement if the two atoms (qubits) are so far apart that a direct interaction is difficult to achieve. The interacti…
A scheme is analyzed for effcient generation of vacuum ultraviolet radiation through four-wave mixing processes assisted by the technique of Stark-chirped rapid adiabatic passage. These opportunities are associated with pulse excitation of laddertype short-wavelength two-photon atomic or molecular transitions so that relaxation processes can be neglected. In this three-laser technique, a delayed-pulse of strong oR-resonant infrared radiation sweeps the laser-induced Stark-shift of a two-photon transition in a such way that facilitates robust maximum two-photon coherence induced by the first ul…
We report a superconducting artificial atom with an observed quantum coherence time of T2*=95us and energy relaxation time T1=70us. The system consists of a single Josephson junction transmon qubit embedded in an otherwise empty copper waveguide cavity whose lowest eigenmode is dispersively coupled to the qubit transition. We attribute the factor of four increase in the coherence quality factor relative to previous reports to device modifications aimed at reducing qubit dephasing from residual cavity photons. This simple device holds great promise as a robust and easily produced artificial qua…
We consider N identical two-level atoms coupled to an optical cavity, which is coherently driven by an external field. In the limit of small atomic excitation, the reflection and transmission coefficients for both fields and intensities are calculated analytically. In addition, the frequency content of the cavity field and hence also the emission spectrum of the cavity is determined. It is discussed in particular how individual collisional dephasing and common atomic energy-level fluctuations prevent the cavity field from being in a coherent state, which in turn affects the outgoing fields.
We propose a scheme to generate arbitrary Fock states |N> in a cavity QED using N resonant Rydberg atoms. The atom-field interaction times are controlled via Stark-shifts adjusted in a way that each atom transfers a photon to the cavity, turning atomic detections useless. Fluctuations affecting the control of the atom-field interactions are also considered.
We investigated coherence delocalization on a coupled-cavity molecular polariton platform in time, frequency, and spatial domains, enabled by ultrafast two-dimensional infrared hyperspectral imaging. Unidirectional coherence delocalization (coherence prepared in one cavity transfer to another cavity) was observed in frequency and real spaces. This directionality was enabled by dissipation of delocalized photon from high-energy to low-energy modes, described by Lindblad dynamics. Further experiments showed that when coherences were directly prepared across cavities (superpositions between polar…
Spontaneous emission can create coherences in a multilevel atom having close lying levels, subject to the condition that the atomic dipole matrix elements are non-orthogonal. This condition is rarely met in atomic systems. We report the possibility of bypassing this condition and thereby creating coherences by letting the atom with orthogonal dipoles to interact with the vacuum of a pre-selected polarized cavity mode rather than the free space vacuum. We derive a master equation for the reduced density operator of a model four level atomic system, and obtain its analytical solution to describe…
We present a quantum-state-diffusion equation to characterize the dynamics of a generic atomic system coupled to a leaky cavity mode. As quantum resources, the population, the coherence and even the entanglement of the system would gradually leak out of the cavity. The effect from the leakage of the cavity-mode to the uncontrollable degree of freedom, e.g., environment, is however not always negative to particular targets. A well-established scenario is that a photon counter attached to the cavity would absorb and then record the leaking photon. As a medium between the system and the photon co…
We propose a quantum metrology scheme in a cavity QED setup to achieve the Heisenberg limit. In our scheme, a series of identical two-level atoms randomly pass through and interact with a dissipative single-mode cavity. Different from the entanglement based Heisenberg limit metrology scheme, we do not need to prepare the atomic entangled states before they enter into the cavity. We show that the initial atomic coherence will induce an effective driving to the cavity field, whose steady state is an incoherent superposition of orthogonal states, with the superposition probabilities being depende…
Quantum technology relies on the utilization of resources, like quantum coherence and entanglement, which allow quantum information and computation processing. This achievement is however jeopardized by the detrimental effects of the environment surrounding any quantum system, so that finding strategies to protect quantum resources is essential. Non-Markovian and structured environments are useful tools to this aim. Here we show how a simple environmental architecture made of two coupled lossy cavities enables a switch between Markovian and non-Markovian regimes for the dynamics of a qubit emb…
We demonstrate a method of tuning a semiconductor quantum dot (QD) onto resonance with a cavity mode all-optically. We use a system comprised of two evanescently coupled cavities containing a single QD. One resonance of the coupled cavity system is used to generate a cavity enhanced optical Stark shift, enabling the QD to be resonantly tuned to the other cavity mode. A twenty-seven fold increase in photon emission from the QD is measured when the off-resonant QD is Stark shifted into the cavity mode resonance, which is attributed to radiative enhancement of the QD. A maximum tuning of 0.06 nm …
We present a new paradigm in the field of cavity QED by bringing out remarkable features associated with the avoided crossing of the dressed state levels of the Jaynes Cummings model. We demonstrate how the parametric couplings, realized by a second order nonlinearity in the cavity, can turn the crossing of dressed states into avoided crossings. We show how one can generate coherence between the avoided crossing of dressed states. Such coherences result, for example, in quantum beats in the excitation probability of the qubit. The quality of quantum beats can be considerably improved by adiaba…
The decoherence mechanism of a single atom inside a high-Q cavity is studied, and the results are compared with experimental observations performed by M. Brune et al. [Phys. Rev. Lett. 76, 1800 (1996)]. Collision dephasing and cavity leakage are considered as the major sources giving rise to decoherence effect. In particular, we show that the experimental data can be fitted very well by assuming suitable values of collision Stark shifts and dark count rate in the detector.
Vacuum induced coherence in a strongly coupled cavity consisting of a three-level system is studied theoretically. The effects of the strong coupling to electromagnetic field vacuum are examined by solution of an open-system quantum master equation. The numerical results show that the system exhibits population trapping, and the numerical results are interpreted with analytical expressions derived from a new basis in the weak excitation regime. We further show that the generated effects can be probed with weak external fields. Moreover, it is shown that the induced coherence can be controlled …
A quantum memory protocol of controlled ac Stark echoes (CASE) based on a double rephasing photon echo scheme via controlled Rabi flopping is proposed. A double rephasing scheme of photon echoes inherently satisfies the no-population inversion requirement for quantum memories, but the resultant absorptive echo has been a fundamental problem. In the present studies, firstly, the first echo in the double rephasing scheme is dynamically controlled not to affect the second echo by using unbalanced ac Stark shifts. Secondly, a control Rabi pulse coherently manipulates the second echo to be emissive…
Entangled state, as an essential tool in quantum information processing, may be generated through the interaction between light and matter in cavity quantum electrodynamics. In this paper, we study the interaction between two two-level atoms and a two-mode field in an optical cavity enclosed by a medium with Kerr nonlinearity in the presence of detuning parameter and Stark effect. It is assumed that atom-field coupling and third-order susceptibility of the Kerr medium depend on the intensity of light. In order to investigate the dynamics of the introduced system, we obtain the exact analytical…
The bichromatic driving of a solid state cavity quantum electrodynamics system is used to probe cavity dressed state transitions and observe coherent interaction between the system and the light field. We theoretically demonstrate the higher order cavity-dressed states, supersplitting, and AC stark shift in a solid state system comprised of a quantum dot strongly coupled to a photonic crystal cavity for on- and far off-resonant cases. For the off-resonant case, phonons mediate off-resonant coupling between the quantum dot and the photonic resonator, a phenomenon unique to solid state cavity qu…
We analyse the geometric phase due to the Stark shift in a system composed of a bosonic field, driven by time-dependent linear amplification, interacting dispersively with a two-level (fermionic) system. We show that a geometric phase factor in the joint state of the system, which depends on the fermionic state (resulting form the Stark shift), is introduced by the amplification process. A clear geometrical interpretation of this phenomenon is provided. We also show how to measure this effect in an interferometric experiment and to generate geometric "Schrodinger cat"-like states. Finally, con…
Faraday rotation based on AC Stark shifts is a mechanism that can entangle the polarization variables of photons and atoms. We analyze the structure of such entanglement by using the Schmidt decomposition method. The time-dependence of entanglement entropy and the effective Schmidt number are derived for Gaussian amplitudes. In particular we show how the entanglement is controlled by the initial fluctuations of atoms and photons.
We show that conditional measurements on atoms following their interaction with a resonant cavity field mode can be used to effectively counter the decoherence of Fock-state superpositions due to cavity leakage.
We consider a model of an optical cavity with a nonequilibrium reservoir consisting of a beam of identical two-level atom pairs (TLAPs) in the general X-state. We find that coherence of multiparticle nonequilibrium reservoir plays a central role on the potential work capability of cavity. We show that no matter whether there are quantum correlations in each TLAP (including quantum entanglement and quantum discord) or not the coherence of the TLAPs has an effect on the work capability of the cavity. Additionally, constructive and destructive interferences could be induced to influence the work …
The coherence and correlation properties of effective bosonic modes of a nano-mechanical cavity composed of an oscillating mirror and containing an optical lattice of regularly trapped atoms are studied. The system is modeled as a three-mode system, two orthogonal polariton modes representing the coupled optical lattice and the cavity mode, and one mechanical mode representing the oscillating mirror. We examine separately the cases of two-mode and three-mode interactions which are distinguished by a suitable tuning of the mechanical mode to the polariton mode frequencies. In the two-mode case,…
We calculate the dispersive properties of the reflected field from a cavity coupled to a single dipole. We show that when a field is resonant with the dipole it experiences a 90 degree phase shift relative to reflection from a bare cavity if the Purcell factor exceeds the bare cavity reflectivity. We then show that optically Stark shifting the dipole with a second field can be used to achieve giant Kerr non-linearites. It is shown that currently achievable cavity lifetimes and cavity quality factors can allow a single emitter in the cavity to impose a nonlinear $π$ phase shift at the single ph…
The aim of this work is to find ways to trap an atom in a cavity. In contrast to other approaches we propose a method where the cavity is basically in the vacuum state and the atom in the ground state. The idea is to induce a spatial dependent AC Stark shift by irradiating the atom with a weak laser field, so that the atom experiences a trapping force. The main feature of our setup is that dissipation can be strongly suppressed. We estimate the lifetime of the atom as well as the trapping potential parameters and compare our estimations with numerical simulations.
We have spectroscopically measured the energy level separation of a superconducting charge qubit coupled non-resonantly to a single mode of the electromagnetic field of a superconducting on-chip resonator. The strong coupling leads to large shifts in the energy levels of both the qubit and the resonator in this circuit quantum electrodynamics system. The dispersive shift of the resonator frequency is used to non-destructively determine the qubit state and to map out the dependence of its energy levels on the bias parameters. The measurement induces an ac-Stark shift of 0.6 MHz per photon in th…
