We have investigated magnetotransport properties and the topological electronic structure of the half-Heusler compound TbPtBi. Our experiments reveal an exceptionally large anomalous Hall effect (AHE) in the canted antiferromagnetic state of TbPtBi with the anomalous Hall angle (AHA) reaching ~0.68-0.76, which is a few times larger than the previously reported record in GdPtBi. We studied the mechanism of half-metallicity (HM) formation in transition metal doped (TM) conjugated carbon based structures by first-principles electronic structure simulations. It is found that the HM is a rather complex phenomenon, determined by the ligand field splitting of d-orbitals of the transition metal (TM) atoms, the exchange splitting and the number of valence electrons. We present transport measurements on a bilayer graphene sheet with homogeneous back gate and split top gate. The electronic transport data indicates the capability to direct electron flow through graphene nanostructures purely defined by electrostatic gating. We present experimental results of transverse electron-focusing measurements performed using n-type GaAs. Such cooling is a non-linear effect and usually requires a large voltage. Here we study the electron cooling in heterostructures based on superconductors with a spin-splitting field coupled to normal metals via spin-filtering barriers. The specific heat capacity of a two-dimensional electron gas is derived for two types of the density of states, namely, the Dirac delta function spectrum and that based on a Gaussian function. For the first time, a closed form expression of the specific heat for each case is obtained at half-filling.
