New proposals for the equation of state of four- and five-dimensional hard-hypersphere mixtures in terms of the equation of state of the corresponding monocomponent hard-hypersphere fluid are introduced. Such proposals (which are constructed in such a way so as to yield the exact third virial coefficient) extend, on the one hand, recent similar formulations for hard-disk and (three-dimensional) hard-sphere mixtures and, on the other hand, two of our previous proposals also linking the mixture equation of state and the one of the monocomponent fluid but unable to reproduce the exact third virial coefficient. The old and new proposals are tested by comparison with published molecular dynamics and Monte Carlo simulation results and their relative merit is evaluated

Multicomponent fluids of hard hyperspheres in odd dimensions

Mixtures of hard hyperspheres in odd space dimensionalities are studied with an analytical approximation method. An equation of state {\em à la} Carnahan-Starling for a five-dimensional fluid of hard hyperspheres

The equation of state for five-dimensional hard hyperspheres arising as a weighted average of the Percus-Yevick compressibility (3/5) and virial (2/5) equations of state is considered. This Carnahan-Starling-like equation turns out to be extremely accurate, despite the fact that both Percus-Yevick equations of state are rather poor.

Exact solution of the Percus-Yevick integral equation for fluid mixtures of hard hyperspheres

Structural and thermodynamic properties of multicomponent hard-sphere fluids at odd dimensions have recently been derived in the framework of the rational function approximation (RFA) [Rohrmann and Santos, Phys. Rev. E \textbf{83}, 011201 (2011)]. Demixing in binary mixtures of hard hyperspheres

The phase behavior of binary fluid mixtures of hard hyperspheres in four and five dimensions is investigated. Spinodal instability is found by using a recent and accurate prescription for the equation of state of the mixture that requires the equation of state of the single component fluid as input. The role played by the dimensionality on the possible metastability of the demixing transition with respect to a fluid-solid transition is discussed. Equation of state for five-dimensional hyperspheres from the chemical-potential route

We use the Percus-Yevick approach in the chemical-potential route to evaluate the equation of state of hard hyperspheres in five dimensions. The evaluation requires the derivation of an analytical expression for the contact value of the pair distribution function between particles of the bulk fluid and a solute particle with arbitrary size. The equation of state is compared with those obtained from the conventional virial and compressibility thermodynamic routes and the associated virial coefficients are computed. Density functional for hard hyperspheres from a tensorial-diagrammatic series

We represent the free energy functional by a diagrammatic series with tensorial coefficients indexed by powers of length scale. For hard cores, we obtain Percus' exact functional in one dimension and the Kierlik-Rosinberg form of fundamental measures theory in three dimensions. Fluid-fluid versus fluid-solid demixing in mixtures of parallel hard hypercubes

Highly asymmetric electrolytes in the primitive model: Hypernetted chain solution in arbitrary spatial dimensions

The pair-correlation functions for fluid ionic mixtures in arbitrary spatial dimensions are computed in hypernetted chain (HNC) approximation. In the primitive model, all ions are approximated as non-overlapping hyperspheres with Coulomb interactions. Our spectral HNC solver is based on a Fourier-Bessel transform introduced by Talman [J. Sedimentation stacking diagrams of binary mixtures of thick and thin hard rods

We use Onsager theory and the local density approximation to study sedimentation-diffusion equilibrium density profiles of binary mixtures of thick and thin hard rods. We construct stacking diagrams for three diameter ratios, and find that even a simple spindle-shaped phase diagram with only isotropic-nematic demixing can lead to counter-intuitive stacking sequences such as an isotropic phase sandwiched between two nematic phases. Virial coefficients, equation of state, and demixing of binary asymmetric nonadditive hard-disk mixtures

Values of the fifth virial coefficient, compressibility factors, and fluid-fluid coexistence curves of binary asymmetric nonadditive mixtures of hard disks are reported. Phase behaviors of binary mixtures composed of banana-shaped and calamitic mesogens

In this work, five mixtures with different concentrations of banana-shaped and calamitic compounds have been prepared and subsequently studied by polarizing optical microscopy, differential scanning calorimetry, and X-ray diffraction on non-oriented samples.
