The origin of high-energy emission in blazars jets (i.e., leptonic versus hadronic) has been a long-standing matter of debate. Here, we focus on one variant of hadronic models where proton synchrotron radiation accounts for the observed steady $γ$-ray blazar emission. Using analytical methods, we derive the minimum jet power ($P_{j,\min}$) for the largest blazar sample analyzed to date (145 sources), taking into account uncertainties of observables and jet's physical parameters. We compare $P_{j,\min}$ against three characteristic energy estimators for accreting systems, i.e., the Eddington luminosity, the accretion disk luminosity, and the power of the Blandford-Znajek process, and find that $P_{j,\min}$ is about 2 orders of magnitude higher than all energetic estimators for the majority of our sample. The derived magnetic field strengths in the emission region require either large amplification of the jet's magnetic field (factor of 30) or place the $γ$-ray production site at sub-pc scales. The expected neutrino emission peaks at $\sim 0.1-10$ EeV, with typical peak neutrino fluxes $\sim 10^{-4}$ times lower than the peak $γ$-ray fluxes. We conclude that if relativistic hadrons are present in blazar jets, they can only produce a radiatively subdominant component of the overall spectral energy distribution of the blazar's steady emission.
To explore the correlation in the GeV band (i.e. the inverse-Compton component) with the optical band (i.e. the synchrotron component) of blazars that are bright in high energies, the light curves of a number of blazars monitored with the Fermi Gamma-ray Space Telescope (FGST), were compared to the corresponding light curves recorded with the Automatic Telescope for Optical Monitoring (ATOM). The results are presented.
Blazars emit non-thermal radiation in all frequency bands from radio to γ-rays. Additionally, they often exhibit rapid flaring events at all frequencies with doubling time scale of the TeV and X-ray flux on the order of minutes, and such rapid flaring events are hard to explain theoretically. We explore the effect of the synchrotron-self Compton cooling, which is inherently time-dependent, leading to a rapid cooling of the electrons. Having discussed intensively the resulting effects of this cooling scenario on the spectral energy distribution of blazars in previous papers, the effects of the …
We present a fully analytical, time-dependent leptonic one-zone model that describes a simplified radiation process of multiple interacting ultrarelativistic electron populations, accounting for the flaring of GeV blazars. In this model, several mono-energetic, ultrarelativistic electron populations are successively and instantaneously injected into the emission region, i.e., a magnetized plasmoid propagating along the blazar jet, and subjected to linear, time-independent synchrotron radiative losses, which are caused by a constant magnetic field, and nonlinear, time-dependent synchrotron self…
In this work we investigate the nature of multi-wavelength variability of blazars from a purely numerical approach. We use a time-dependent one-zone leptonic blazar emission model to simulate multi-wavelength variability by introducing stochastic parameter variations in the emission region. These stochastic parameter variations are generated by Monte Carlo methods and have a characteristic power law index of $α=-2$ in their power spectral densities. We include representative blazar test cases for a flat spectrum radio quasar and a high synchrotron peaked BL Lacertae object for which the high e…
We present a detailed analysis of time- and energy-dependent synchrotron polarization signatures in a shock-in-jet model for gamma-ray blazars. Our calculations employ a full 3D radiation transfer code, assuming a helical magnetic field throughout the jet. The code considers synchrotron emission from an ordered magnetic field, and takes into account all light-travel-time and other relevant geometric effects, while the relevant synchrotron self-Compton and external Compton effects are taken care of with the 2D MCFP code. We consider several possible mechanisms through which a relativistic shock…
Reinhard Schlickeiser has made groundbreaking contributions to various aspects of blazar physics, including diffusive shock acceleration, the theory of synchrotron radiation, the production of gamma-rays through Compton scattering in various astrophysical sources, etc. This paper, describing the development of a self-consistent shock-in-jet model for blazars with a synchrotron mirror feature, is therefore an appropriate contribution to a Special Issue in honor of Reinhard Schlickeiser's 70th birthday. The model is based on our previous development of a self-consistent shock-in-jet model with r…
High synchrotron peaked blazars (HSPs or HBLs) play a central role in very high energy (VHE) gamma-ray astronomy, and likely in neutrino astronomy. Currently, the largest compilation of HSP blazars, the 2WHSP sample, includes 1691 sources, but it is not complete neither in the radio nor in the X-ray band. In order to provide a more sizable and more accurate set of HSP blazars that is useful for future statistical studies and to plan for VHE/TeV observations, we present the largest sample of extreme and high synchrotron peaked (EHSP;HSP) blazars and blazar candidates: the 3HSP catalogue. The 3H…
We compile 23 Gamma-ray Bursts (GRBs) and 21 blazars with estimated Doppler factors, and the Doppler factors of GRBs are estimated from their Lorentz factors by assuming their jet viewing angles θ->0 degree. Using the conventional assumption that the prompt emission of GRBs is dominated by the synchrotron radiation, we calculate the synchrotron luminosity of GRBs from their total isotropic energy and burst duration. Intriguingly, we discover a uniform correlation between the synchrotron luminosity and Doppler factor, L_syn \propto D^3.1, for GRBs and blazars, which suggests that they may share…
High frequency peaked high redshift blazars, are extreme in the sense that their spectrum is particularly hard and peaks at TeV energies. Standard leptonic scenarios require peculiar source parameters and/or a special setup in order to account for these observations. Electromagnetic cascades seeded by ultra-high energy cosmic rays (UHECR) in the intergalactic medium have also been invoked, assuming a very low intergalactic magnetic field (IGMF). Here we study the synchrotron emission of UHECR secondaries produced in blazars located in magnetised environments, and show that it can provide an al…
Magnetically-driven non-stationary acceleration of jets in AGNs results in the leading parts of the flow been accelerated to much higher Lorentz factors than in the case of steady state acceleration with the same parameters. The higher Doppler-boosted parts of the flow may dominate the high energy emission of blazar jets. We suggest that highly variable GeV and TeV emission in blazars is produced by the faster moving leading edges of highly magnetized non-stationary ejection blobs, while the radio data trace the slower-moving bulk flow. Model predictions compare favorably with the latest Fermi…
The broadband SEDs of blazars exhibit two broad spectral components, which in leptonic emission models are attributed to synchrotron radiation and synchrotron self-Compton (SSC) radiation of relativistic electrons. During high state phases, the high-frequency SSC component often dominates the low-frequency synchrotron component, implying that the inverse Compton SSC losses of electrons are at least equal to or greater than the synchrotron losses of electrons. We calculate from the analytical solution of the kinetic equation of relativistic electrons, subject to the combined linear synchrotron …
There are still some important unanswered questions about the detailed particle acceleration and escape occurring during the quiescent epoches. As a result, the particle distribution that is adopted in the blazar quiescent spectral model have numerous unconstrained shapes. To help remedy this problem, we introduce a analytical particle transport model to reproduce quiescent broadband spectral energy distribution of blazar. In this model, the exact electron distribution is solved from a generalized transport equation that contains the terms describing first-order and secondary-order \emph{Fermi…

We present the results obtained from our campaign to characterize the intra-night-optical variability properties of blazars detected by the {\it Fermi} Large Area Telescope. This involves R-band monitoring observations of a sample of 18 blazars, that includes five flat-spectrum radio quasars (FSRQs) and thirteen BL Lac objects (BL Lacs) covering the redshift range z = 0.085$-$1.184. Our observations, carried out using the 1.3 m J.C. Bhattacharya Telescope cover a total of 40 nights ($\sim$200 hrs) between the period 2016 December and 2020 March. We characterized variability using the power enh…
Studying unidentified γ-ray sources is important as they may hide new discoveries. We conducted a multiwavelength analysis of 13 unidentified Fermi-LAT sources in the 3FGL catalog that have no known counterparts (Unidentified Gamma-ray Sources, UnIDs). The sample was selected for sources that have a single radio and X-ray candidate counterpart in their uncertainty ellipses. The purpose of this study is to find a possible blazar signature and to model the Spectral Energy Distribution (SED) of the selected sources using an empirical log parabolic model. The results show that the synchrotron emis…
We present a theoretical analysis of the expected X-ray and gamma-ray polarization signatures resulting from synchrotron self-Compton emission in leptonic models, compared to the polarization signatures from proton synchrotron and cascade synchrotron emission in hadronic models for blazars. Source parameters resulting from detailed spectral-energy-distribution modeling are used to calculate photon-energy-dependent upper limits on the degree of polarization, assuming a perfectly organized, mono-directional magnetic field. In low-synchrotron-peaked blazars, hadronic models exhibit substantially …
The broadband SEDs of blazars show two distinct components which in leptonic models are associated with synchrotron and SSC emission of highly relativistic electrons. In some sources the SSC component dominates the synchrotron peak by one or more orders of magnitude implying that the electrons mainly cool by inverse Compton collisions with their self-made synchrotron photons. Therefore, the linear synchrotron loss of electrons, which is normally invoked in emission models, has to be replaced by a nonlinear loss rate depending on an energy integral of the electron distribution. This modified el…
In this paper the optical depths in blazars due to photo-pair production is calculated for a time-dependent, non-linear injection model. Several target photon fields are taken into account, namely the internal synchrotron, synchrotron-self Compton and external Compton radiation, as well as a constant external soft photon field. By applying the optical depths to theoretical blazar spectra only the constant external photon field turns out to significantly influence the radiation at high energies. The impact of the internal time-dependent radiation fields is either minor or requires extreme param…
Both leptonic and hadronic emission processes may contribute to blazar jet emission; which dominates in blazars's high energy emission component remains an open question. Some intermediate synchrotron peaked blazars transition from their low to high energy emission components in the X-ray band making them excellent laboratories to probe both components simultaneously, and good targets for the newly launched Imaging X-ray Polarimetry Explorer. We characterize the spectral energy distributions for three such blazars: CGRaBS~J0211+1051, TXS~0506+056, and S5~0716+714, predicting their X-ray polari…
This paper presents the results of a $\rm γ$-ray likelihood analysis over all the extreme and high synchrotron peak blazars (EHSP & HSP) from the 3HSP catalogue. We investigate 2013 multifrequency positions under the eyes of Fermi Large Area Telescope, considering 11 years of observations in the energy range between 500 MeV to 500 GeV, which results in 1160 $\rm γ$-ray signatures detected down to the TS = 9 threshold. The detections include 235 additional sources concerning the Fermi Large Area Telescope Fourth Source Catalog (4FGL), all confirmed via high-energy TS maps, and represent an impr…
In this work, we collected a sample of 69 TeV blazars from TeVCat, obtained their multi-wavelength observations, and fitted their spectral energy distributions by using the second degree polynomial function. The structure parameters of the synchrotron bumps for 68 blazars and those of the inverse-Compton bumps for 56 blzars are obtained. Then, we adopted statistical analysis to the parameters (curvature, peak frequency, peak luminosity, bolometric luminosity, and X/$γ$-ray spectral indexes). From our analysis and discussions, we can get following conclusions: 1. There is a clear positive corre…
We use the third catalog of blazars detected by Fermi/LAT (3LAC) and gamma-ray Narrow-line Seyfert 1 Galaxies (gamma-NLSy1s) to study the blazar sequence and relationship between them. Our results are as follows: (i) There is a weak anti-correlation between synchrotron peak frequency and peak luminosity for both Fermi blazars and gamma-NLSy1s, which supports the blazar sequence. However, after Doppler correction, the inverse correlation disappeared, which suggests that anti-correlation between synchrotron peak frequency and peak luminosity is affected by the beaming effect. (ii) There is a sig…
Based on a large Fermi blazar sample, the blazar sequence (synchrotron peak frequency $ν_{\rm peak}$ versus synchrotron peak luminosity $L_{\rm peak}$) is revisited. It is found that there is significant anti-correlation between $ν_{\rm peak}$ and $L_{\rm peak}$ for blazars. However, after being Doppler corrected, the anti-correlation disappears. The jet cavity power ($P_{\rm jet}$) is estimated from extended radio luminosity. So it is free of beaming effect. We find that there are significant anti-correlations between $P_{\rm jet}$ and beam-corrected $ν_{\rm peak}^{'}$ for both blazars and ra…
From the early days in gamma-ray astronomy, locating the origin of GeV emission within the core of an active galactic nucleus (AGN) persisted as an open question; the problem is to discern between near- and far-site scenarios with respect to the distance from the super massive central engine. We investigate this question under the light of a complete sample of low synchrotron peak (LSP) blazars which is fully characterized along many decades in the electromagnetic spectrum, from radio up to tens of GeV. We consider the high-energy emission from bright radio blazars and test for synchrotron sel…
Blazars emit a highly-variable non-thermal spectrum. It is usually assumed that the same non-thermal electrons are responsible for the IR-optical-UV emission (via synchrotron) and the gamma-ray emission (via inverse Compton). Hence, the light curves in the two bands should be correlated. Orphan gamma-ray flares (i.e., lacking a luminous low-frequency counterpart) challenge our theoretical understanding of blazars. By means of large-scale two-dimensional radiative particle-in-cell simulations, we show that orphan gamma-ray flares may be a self-consistent by-product of particle energization in t…
We have made an estimation of the synchrotron peak frequency ($ν_{peak}^{s}$) for six very low synchrotron peaked (VLSP) blazars. These objects were selected as VLSP candidates (with the $ν_{peak}^{s} \leq 10^{13}$ Hz) from the archival data. We have build spectral energy distribution using quasi-simultaneous observations at the Zeiss-1000 and RATAN-600 telescopes of the Special astrophysical observatory of RAS and made an estimation of the $ν_{peak}^{s}$. We confirmed classification as a VLSP for two sources ([HB89] 1308+326 and 3C 345), for four other blazars we have calculated $ν_{peak}^{s}…
The potential association between the blazar TXS 0506+056 and the neutrino event IceCube-170922A provides a unique opportunity to study the possible physical connection between the high-energy photons and neutrinos. We explore the correlated electromagnetic and neutrino emissions of blazar TXS 0506+056 by a self-consistent leptonic-hadronic model, taking into account particle stochastic acceleration and all relevant radiative processes self-consistently. The electromagnetic and neutrino spectra of blazar TXS 0506+056 are reproduced by the proton synchrotron and hybrid leptonic-hadronic models …
Aims. High Synchrotron Peaked blazars (HSPs) dominate the -ray sky at energies larger than a few GeV; however, only a few hundred blazars of this type have been catalogued so far. In this paper we present the 2WHSP sample, the largest and most complete list of HSP blazars available to date, which is an expansion of the 1WHSP catalog of gamma-ray source candidates off the Galactic plane. Methods. We cross-matched a number of multi-wavelength surveys (in the radio, infrared and X-ray bands) and applied selection criteria based on the radio to IR and IR to X-ray spectral slopes. To ensure the sel…
Blazars exhibit flares with a doubling time scale on the order of minutes. Such rapid flares are theoretically challenging and several {models} have been put forward to explain the fast variability. In this paper we continue the discussion concerning the effects of non-linear, time-dependent synchrotron self-Compton (SSC) cooling. In previous papers we were able to show that the non-linearity{, introduced by a time-dependent electron injection,} has severe consequences for both the spectral energy distribution (SED) and the monochromatic synchrotron light curve. The non-linear cooling introduc…
The parsec-scale radio properties of 232 active galactic nuclei (AGNs), most of which are blazars, detected by the Large Area Telescope (LAT) on board the Fermi Gamma-ray Space Telescope have been observed contemporaneously by the Very Long Baseline Array (VLBA) at 5 GHz. Data from both the first 11 months (1FGL) and the first 2 years (2FGL) of the Fermi mission were used to investigate these sources' gamma-ray properties. We use the ratio of the gamma-ray to radio luminosity as a measure of gamma-ray loudness. We investigate the relationship of several radio properties to gamma-ray loudness a…
Order of magnitude variability has been observed in the blazar sub-class of Active Galactic Nuclei on minute timescales. These high-energy flares are often difficult to explain with shock acceleration models due to the small size of the inferred emitting region, with recent particle-in-cell (PIC) simulations showing that magnetic reconnection is a promising alternative mechanism. Here, we present a macroscopic emission model physically motivated by PIC simulations, where the energy for particle acceleration originates from the reconnecting magnetic field. We track the radial growth and relativ…
The very hard $γ$-ray spectrum from distant blazars challenges the traditional synchrotron self-Compton (SSC) model, which may indicate that there is the contribution of an additional high-energy component beyond the SSC emission. In this paper, we study the possible origin of the hard $γ$-ray spectrum from distant blazars. We develop a model to explain the hard $γ$-ray spectrum from blazar 1ES 1101-232. In the model, the optical and X-ray radiation would come from the synchrotron radiation of primary electrons and secondary pairs, the GeV emission would be produced by the SSC process, however…

The study of machine learning (ML) techniques for the autonomous classification of astrophysical sources is of great interest, and we explore its applications in the context of a multifrequency data-frame. We test the use of supervised ML to classify blazars according to its synchrotron peak frequency, either lower or higher than 10$^{15}$Hz. We select a sample with 4178 blazars labelled as 1279 high synchrotron peak (HSP: $\rm ν$-peak > 10$^{15}$Hz) and 2899 low synchrotron peak (LSP: $\rm ν$-peak < 10$^{15}$Hz). A set of multifrequency features were defined to represent each source, that inc…
Beaming effect is important for the observational properties of blazars. In this work, we collect 91 $Fermi$ blazars with available radio Doppler factors. $γ$-ray Doppler factors are estimated and compared with radio Doppler factors for some sources. The intrinsic (de-beamed) $γ$-ray flux density ($f^{\rm in}_γ$), intrinsic $γ$-ray luminosity ($L^{\rm in}_γ$), and intrinsic synchrotron peak frequency ($ν_{\rm p}^{\rm in}$) are calculated. Then we study the correlations between $f^{\rm in}_γ$ and redshift and find that they follow the theoretical relation: $\log f = -2.0 \log z + {\rm const}$. …
In the present work we propose an innovative estimation method for the minimum Doppler factor and energy content of the gamma-ray emitting region of quasar 3C 279, using a standard proton synchrotron blazar model and the principles of automatic photon quenching. The latter becomes relevant for high enough magnetic fields and results in spontaneous annihilation of gamma-rays. The absorbed energy is then redistributed into electron-positron pairs and soft radiation. We show that as quenching sets an upper value for the source rest-frame gamma-ray luminosity, one has, by neccessity, to resort to …

We study the quasi-simultaneous near-IR, optical, UV, and X-ray photometry of eleven gamma-ray selected blazars for which redshift estimates larger than 1.2 have been recently provided. Four of these objects turn out to be high-power blazars with the peak of their synchrotron emission between ~ 3 x 10^15 and ~ 10^16 Hz, and therefore of a kind predicted to exist but never seen before. This discovery has important implications for our understanding of physical processes in blazars, including the so-called "blazar sequence", and might also help constraining the extragalactic background light thr…
In examining a select sample of over 200 blazars of known jet kinetic power (L_kin) and well-characterized SEDs, we found (Meyer et al., 2011) that Intermediate synchrotron-peaking (ISP) blazars may have lower gamma-ray output than high synchrotron-peaking (HSP) blazars of similar L_kin, consistent with our hypothesis that ISP blazars are less-beamed versions of HSP blazars, rather than a distinct population. Further, by using the radio core dominance as a measure of relative beaming, we find that gamma-ray luminosity depends on beaming in a consistent way for blazars ranging over all jet kine…
PKS 1424+240 is a distant very high energy gamma-ray BL Lac object with redshift $z=0.601$. It was found that pure synchrotron self-Compton (SSC) process normally need extreme input parameters (e.g., very low magnetic field intensity and extraordinarily large Doppler factor) to explain its multi-wavelength spectral energy distributions (SEDs). To avoid the extreme model parameters, different models have been proposed (e.g., two-zone SSC model or lepto-hadronic model). In this work, we employ the traditional one-zone leptonic model after including a weak external Compton component to re-explore…
We present the 1-100 GeV spectral energy distribution for a population of 148 high-synchrotron-peaked blazars (HSPs) recently detected with Fermi-LAT as part of the First Brazil-ICRANet Gamma-ray Blazar catalogue (1BIGB). Most of the 1BIGB sources do not appear in previous Fermi-LAT catalogues and their gamma-ray spectral properties are presented here for the first time, representing a significant new extension of the gamma-ray blazar population. Since our sample was originally selected from an excess signal in the 0.3-500 GeV band, the sources stand out as promising TeV blazar candidates, pot…
Does the "blazar sequence" exist, or is it a result of a selection effect, due to the difficulty in measuring the redshifts of blazars with both high synchrotron peak frequencies (\gtrsim 10^{15} Hz) and luminosities (\gtrsim 10^{46} erg s^{-1})? We explore this question with a sample of blazars from the Second Catalog of Active Galactic Nuclei (AGN) from the Fermi Large Area Telescope (LAT). The Compton dominance, the ratio of the peak of the Compton to the synchrotron peak luminosities, is essentially a redshift-independent quantity, and thus crucial to answering this question. We find that …
Blazars host the most powerful persistent relativistic conical jet -- a highly collimated anisotropic flow of material/plasma. Motivated by this, we explore the blazar's broadband spectral energy distribution (SED) in an anisotropic flow of plasma which emits via synchrotron and inverse Compton (IC) mechanism. The flow is conical with two velocity components: a highly relativistic flow component along the jet axis and a random perpendicular component with average random Lorentz factor $\langle γ^{ran} \rangle$ $<<$ than the average component along the jet axis $\langle γ\rangle$. Assuming a br…
The standard blazar paradigm consists of a supermassive black hole that expels relativistic jets of magnetized plasma in our direction. This plasma entrains nonthermal synchrotron-emitting electrons that furthermore scatter internally-produced synchrotron photons as well as externally-produced photons from the accretion-disk, the broad-line region, and the infrared-emitting torus. This picture has been very successful in reproducing the two-humped blazar spectral energy distribution. Yet various discontents persist, including (1) ultra-short variability at TeV energies that is much shorter tha…
In this paper we develop the extended jet model of Potter & Cotter to model the simultaneous multi-wavelength spectra of six Compton-dominant blazars. We include an accelerating parabolic base transitioning to a slowly decelerating conical jet with a geometry set by observations of M87 and consistent with simulations and theory. We investigate several jet models and find that the optically thick to thin synchrotron break in the radio spectrum requires the jet to first come into equipartition at large distances along the jet (10^5 Schwarzschild radii), consistent with the observed transition fr…
(Abridged) In this paper, multi-wavelength data are compiled for a sample of 1425 Fermi blazars to calculate their spectral energy distributions (SEDs). A parabolic function, $\log(νF_ν) = P_1(\logν- P_2)^2 + P_3,$ is used for SED fitting. Synchrotron peak frequency ($\log ν_p$), spectral curvature ($P_1$), peak flux ($ν_{\rm p}F_{\rm ν_p}$), and integrated flux ($νF_ν$) are successfully obtained for 1392 blazars (461 flat spectrum radio quasars-FSRQs, 620 BL Lacs-BLs and 311 blazars of uncertain type-BCUs, 999 sources have known redshifts). Monochromatic luminosity at radio 1.4 GHz, optical R…
Internal shocks occurring in blazars may accelerate both thermal and non-thermal electrons. In this paper we examine the consequences that such a hybrid (thermal/non-thermal) EED has on the spectrum of blazars. Since the thermal component of the EED may extend to very low energies. We replace the standard synchrotron process by the more general magneto-bremsstrahlung (MBS). Significant differences in the energy flux appear at low radio frequencies when considering MBS instead of the standard synchrotron emission. A drop in the spectrum appears in the all the radio band and a prominent valley b…
The SED of blazars show significant curvature. In this paper, we study the curvature properties for a large sample of Fermi/LAT bright blazars based on quasi-simultaneous SED. Both SEDs of synchrotron and inverse Compton (IC) components are fitted by a log-parabolic law in log_v-log_vfv diagram. The second-degree term of log-parabola measures the curvature of SED. We find a statistically significant correlation between synchrotron peak frequency and its curvature. This result is in agreement with the theoretical prediction, and confirms previous studies, which dealt with single source with var…
Blazars are classified into high, intermediate and low energy peaked sources based on the location of their synchrotron peak. This lies in infra-red/optical to ultra-violet bands for low and intermediate peaked blazars. The transition from synchrotron to inverse Compton emission falls in the X-ray bands for such sources. We present the spectral and timing analysis of 14 low and intermediate energy peaked blazars ob- served with XMMNewton spanning 31 epochs. Parametric fits to X-ray spectra helps constrain the possible location of transition from the high energy end of the syn- chrotron to the …
The location of the Gamma-ray emission of powerful blazars is a matter of active debate. Is the location within the UV emitting sub-pc scale broad line region, or farther out at pc scales where the molecular torus IR emission dominates? We present a diagnostic that connects three observables, the synchrotron and external Compton peak frequencies and the Compton dominance (the ratio of Compton to synchrotron luminosity) to the seed photon energy and energy density. We discuss encouraging preliminary results and discuss how to use our diagnostic to understand the location of the Gamma-ray emissi…
