In this paper we investigate the Brolin's theorem over $\mathbb{H}$, the skew field of quaternions. Moreover, considering a quaternionic polynomial $p$ with real coefficients, we focus on the properties of its equilibrium measure, among the others, the mixing property and the Lyapunov exponents of the measure. We prove a central limit theorem and we compute the topological entropy and measurable entropy with respect to the quaternionic equilibrium measure. We prove that they are equal considering both a quaternionic polynomial with real coefficients and a polynomial with coefficients in a slice but not all real. Brolin's theorems for the one slice preserving polynomials and for generic polynomials are also proved.
Given a holomorphic selfmap f of the complex projective plane of algebraic degree at least 2, we give sufficient conditions on a positive closed (1,1) current S of unit mass under which the normalized pullbacks of S under iterates of f converge to the Green current T. In particular, we completely characterize the plane algebraic curves whose normalized pullbacks converge weakly to T.
We discuss the proof of a certain integral theorem obtained by C. G. Cullen, originally stated on the class of the analytic intrinsic functions on the quaternions. It is shown that this integral theorem is true for a larger class of quaternionic functions.
This paper is motivated by Brolin's theorem. The phenomenon we wish to demonstrate is as follows: if $F$ is a holomorphic correspondence on $\mathbb{P}^1$, then (under certain conditions) $F$ admits a measure $μ_F$ such that, for any point $z$ drawn from a "large" open subset of $\mathbb{P}^1$, $μ_F$ is the weak*-limit of the normalised sums of point masses carried by the pre-images of $z$ under the iterates of $F$. Let ${}^\dagger{F}$ denote the transpose of $F$. Under the condition $d_{top}(F) > d_{top}({}^\dagger{F})$, where $d_{top}$ denotes the topological degree, the above phenomemon was…
In this paper, the author studies quaternionic Monge-Ampère equations and obtain the existence of the solutions to the Dirichlet problem for such equations in strictly pesudoconvex domains in quaternionic space. The stability and subsolution theorems are established for quaternionic Monge-Ampère equations.
In their recent work, Gentili and Struppa proposed a different quaternionic analogue of the notion of holomorphic functions in the complex plane, called \textit{slice regular functions}, which has led to several analogues of classical theorems in complex function theory in the quaternionic setting. The quaternionic analogue of meromorphic functions is called \textit{semiregular functions}. Such a function is said to be \textit{slice preserving} if it maps each domain in a complex line to a domain in the same complex line. In this work, we deal with the relation between analytic and algebraic p…
We prove a version of the classical Mittag-Leffler Theorem for regular functions over quaternions. Our result relies upon an appropriate notion of principal part, that is inspired by the recent definition of spherical analyticity.
For $G$-monogenic mappings taking values in the algebra of complex quaternion we prove a curvilinear analogue of the Cauchy integral theorem in the case where a curve of integration lies on the boundary of a domain.
In the paper [1] considered a new class of quaternionic mappings, so-called $G$-monogenic mappings. In this paper we prove analogues of classical integral theorems of the holomorphic function theory: the Cauchy integral theorems for surface and curvilinear integrals, and the Cauchy integral formula for $G$-monogenic mappings.
The classical theorem of Picard states that a non-constant holomorphic function $f:\mathbb{C}\to\mathbb{C}$ can avoid at most one value. We investigate how many values a non-constant slice regular function of a quaternionic variable $f:\mathbb{H}\to\mathbb{H}$ may avoid.
The classic Gauss-Lucas Theorem for complex polynomials of degree $d\ge2$ has a natural reformulation over quaternions, obtained via rotation around the real axis. We prove that such a reformulation is true only for $d=2$. We present a new quaternionic version of the Gauss-Lucas Theorem valid for all $d\geq2$, together with some consequences.
We investigate differentiability of functions defined on regions of the real quaternion field and obtain a noncommutative version of the Cauchy-Riemann conditions. Then we study the noncommutative analog of the Cauchy integral as well as criteria for functions of a quaternion variable to be analytic. In particular, the quaternionic exponential and logarithmic functions are being considered. Main results include quaternion versions of Hurwitz' theorem, Mittag-Leffler's theorem and Weierstrass theorem.
For functions of two quaternionic variables that are regular in the sense of Fueter, we establish a result similar in spirit to the Hanges and Trèves theorem. Namely, we show that a ball contained in the boundary of a domain is a propagator of regular extendability across the boundary.
The basic results of a new theory of regular functions of a quaternionic variable have been recently stated, following an idea of Cullen. In this paper we prove the minimum modulus principle and the open mapping theorem for regular functions. The proofs involve some peculiar geometric properties of such functions which are of independent interest.
From the viewpoint of the theory of orthomodular lattices of elementary propositions, Quantum Theories can be formulated in real, complex or quaternionic Hilbert spaces as established in Solér's theorem. The said lattice eventually coincides with the lattice of all orthogonal projectors on a separable Hilbert space over R, C, or over the algebra of quaternions H. Quantum states are $σ$-additive probability measures on that non-Boolean lattice. Gleason's theorem proves that, if the Hilbert space is separable with dimension >2 and the Hilbert space is either real or complex, then states are one-…
Novel types of convolution operators for quaternion linear canonical transform (QLCT) are proposed. Type one and two are defined in the spatial and QLCT spectral domains, respectively. They are distinct in the quaternion space and are consistent once in complex or real space. Various types of convolution formulas are discussed. Consequently, the QLCT of the convolution of two quaternionic functions can be implemented by the product of their QLCTs, or the summation of the products of their QLCTs. As applications, correlation operators and theorems of the QLCT are derived. The proposed convoluti…
The theory of slice regular functions of a quaternionic variable extends the notion of holomorphic function to the quaternionic setting. This theory, already rich of results, is sometimes surprisingly different from the theory of holomorphic functions of a complex variable. However, several fundamental results in the two environments are similar, even if their proofs for the case of quaternions need new technical tools. In this paper we prove the Landau-Toeplitz Theorem for slice regular functions, in a formulation that involves an appropriate notion of regular $2$-diameter. We then show that …
In this paper we prove two Bloch type theorems for quaternionic slice regular functions. We first discuss the injective and covering properties of some classes of slice regular functions from slice regular Bloch spaces and slice regular Bergman spaces, respectively. And then we show that there exits a universal ball contained in the image of the open unit ball $\mathbb{B}$ in quaternions $\mathbb{H}$ through the slice regular rotation $\widetilde{f}_{u}$ of each slice regular function $f:\overline{\mathbb{B}}\rightarrow \mathbb{H}$ with $f'(0)=1$ for some $u\in \partial\mathbb{B}$.
In theory of one complex variable, Gauss-Lucas Theorem states that the critical points of a non constant polynomial belong to the convex hull of the set of zeros of the polynomial. The exact analogue of this result cannot hold, in general, in the quaternionic case; instead, the critical points of a non constant polynomial belong to the convex hull of the set of zeros of the so-called symmetrization of the given polynomial. An incomplete proof of this statement was given in [8]. In this paper we present a different but complete proof of this theorem and we discuss a consequence.
We define and study the counterpart of the Wiener algebra in the quaternionic setting, both for the discrete and continuous case. We prove a Wiener-Lévy type theorem and a factorization theorem. We give applications to Toeplitz and Wiener-Hopf operators.
The classical theorem of Bloch (1924) asserts that if $f$ is a holomorphic function on a region that contains the closed unit disk $|z|\leq 1$ such that $f(0) = 0$ and $|f'(0)| = 1$, then the image domain contains discs of radius $3/2-\sqrt{2} > 1/12$. The optimal value is known as Bloch's constant and 1/12 is not the best possible. In this paper we give a direct generalization of Bloch's theorem to the three-dimensional Euclidean space in the framework of quaternion analysis. We compute explicitly a lower bound for the Bloch constant.
We define an almost periodic extension of the Wiener algebras in the quaternionic setting and prove a Wiener-Levy type theorem for it, as well as extending the theorem to the matrix-valued case. We prove a Wiener-Hopf factorization theorem for the quaternionic matrix-valued Wiener algebras (discrete and continuous) and explore the connection to the Riemann-Hilbert problem in that setting. As applications, we characterize solvability of two classes of quaternionic functional equations and give an explicit formula for the canonical factorization of quaternionic rational matrix functions via real…
Along with the development of the theory of slice regular functions over the real algebra of quaternions $\mathbb{H}$ during the last decade, some natural questions arose about slice regular functions on the open unit ball $\mathbb{B}$ in $\mathbb{H}$. This work establishes several new results in this context. Along with some useful estimates for slice regular self-maps of $\mathbb{B}$ fixing the origin, it establishes two variants of the quaternionic Schwarz-Pick lemma, specialized to maps $\mathbb{B}\to\mathbb{B}$ that are not injective. These results allow a full generalization to quaternio…
We introduce and study Hankel operators defined on the Hardy space of regular functions of a quaternionic variable. Theorems analogous to those of Nehari anc C. Fefferman are proved.
In this paper we prove a new version of Krein-Langer factorization theorem in the slice hyperholomorphic setting which is more general than the one proved in [D. Alpay, F. Colombo, I. Sabadini, Krein-Langer factorization and related topics in the slice hyperholomorphic setting, J. Geom. Anal., 24 (2014), 843--872]. We treat both the case of functions with $κ$ negative squares defined on subsets of the quaternionic unit ball or on subsets of the half space of quaternions with positive real part. A crucial tool in the proof of our results is the Schauder-Tychonoff theorem and an invariant subspa…
We prove a four dimensional version of the Bernstein Theorem, with complex polynomials being replaced by quaternionic polynomials. We deduce from the theorem a quaternionic Bernstein's inequality and give a formulation of this last result in terms of four-dimensional zonal harmonics and Gegenbauer polynomials.
We prove some extension theorems for quaternionic holomorphic functions in the sense of Fueter. Starting from the existence theorem for the nonhomogeneous Cauchy-Riemann-Fueter Problem, we prove that an $\mathbb{H}$-valued function $f$ on a smooth hypersurface, satisfying suitable tangential conditions, is locally a jump of two $\mathbb{H}$-holomorphic functions. From this, we obtain, in particular, the existence of the solution for the Dirichlet Problem with smooth data. We extend these results to the continous case. In the final part, we discuss the octonian case.
The goal of this paper is to introduce and study some geometric properties of slice regular functions of quaternion variable like univalence, subordination, starlikeness, convexity and spirallikeness in the unit ball. We prove a number of results, among which an Area-type Theorem, Rogosinski inequality, and a Bieberbach-de Branges Theorem for a subclass of slice regular functions. We also discuss some geometric and algebraic interpretations of our results in terms of maps from $\mathbb R^4$ to itself. As a tool for subordination we define a suitable notion of composition of slice regular funct…
We propose a new way to compute the radius of convergence for Quaternionic hyperholomorphic functions and for Octonion analytic functions. We extend the theorem of Cauchy Hadamard and the theorem of Abel on convergence of series to Quaternionic analysis with the Fueter Operator, to Quaternionic analysis with the Moisil Theodoresco operator and to the Octonion analysis with the Fueter operator.
The Bohr theorem states that any function $f(z) = \sum_{n=0}^{\infty} a_{n} z^{n}$, analytic and bounded in the open unit disk, obeys the inequality $\sum_{n=0}^{\infty} |a_{n}| |z|^{n} < 1$ in the open disk of radius 1/3, the so-called Bohr radius. Moreover, the value 1/$ cannot be improved. In this paper we review some results related to this theorem for the three-dimensional Euclidean space in the setting of quaternionic analysis. The existing results for the Bohr radius will be improved and also some estimates for the hypercomplex derivative of a monogenic function by the norm of the funct…
In this paper a quaternionic sharp version of the Carathéodory theorem is established for slice regular functions with positive real part, which strengthes a weaken version recently established by D. Alpay et. al. using the Herglotz integral formula. Moreover, the restriction of positive real part can be relaxed so that the theorem becomes the quaternionic version of the Borel-Carathéodory theorem. It turns out that the two theorems are equivalent.
We construct a counterexample to a well-known extension theorem for slice regular functions, which motivates us to develop a theory of Riemann slice-domains by introducing a new topology on quaternions. By some paths describing axial symmetry in Riemann slice-domains, we rectify the classical extension formula in the theory of slice regular functions and prove a representation formula over slice-domains of regularity. This proof involves an intertwining relation between imaginary units of quaternions and a fixed matrix corresponding to a complex structure.
The theory of slice regular functions is nowadays widely studied and has found its elegant applications to a functional calculus for quaternionic linear operators and Schur analysis. However, much less is known about their boundary behaviors. In this paper, we initiate the study of the boundary Julia theory for quaternions. More precisely, we establish the quaternionic versions of the Julia lemma, the Julia-Carathéodory theorem, the boundary Schwarz lemma, the Hopf lemma, and the Burns-Krantz rigidity theorem for slice regular self-mappings of the open unit ball $\mathbb B\subset \mathbb H$ an…
A new class of regular quaternionic functions, defined by power series in a natural fashion, has been introduced in recent years. Several results of the theory recall the classical complex analysis, whereas other results reflect the peculiarity of the quaternionic structure. A more recent paper identified a larger class of domains, on which the study of regular functions is most natural and not limited to the study of quaternionic power series. In the present paper we extend some basic results concerning the algebraic and topological properties of the zero set to regular functions defined on t…
