Space Charge and Quantum Corrections in Free Electron Laser Evolution

Effects producing gain dilution in Free Electron Laser devices are well documented. We develop here a unified point of view allowing the introduction of space charge effects, along with the gain deterioration due to inhomogeneous broadening contributions and discuss the relevant interplay. We outline future developments and comment on the possibility of including in the formalism effects of quantum mechanical nature.

High-charge relativistic electron bunches from a kHz laser-plasma accelerator

We report on electron wakefield acceleration in the resonant bubble regime with few-millijoule near-single-cycle laser pulses at a kilohertz repetition rate. Using very tight focusing of the laser pulse in conjunction with microscale supersonic gas jets, we demonstrate a stable relativistic electron source with a high charge per pulse up to 24 pC/shot. The corresponding average current is 24 nA, making this kilohertz electron source useful for various applications.

Studies on charge production from Cs2Te photocathodes in the PITZ L-band normal conducting radio frequency photo injector

This paper discusses the behavior of electron bunch charge produced in an L-band normal conducting radio frequency cavity (RF gun) from Cs2Te photocathodes illuminated with ps-long UV laser pulses when the laser transverse distribution consists of a flat-top core with Gaussian-like decaying halo. High efficiency laser-assisted H- charge exchange for microsecond duration beams

Laser-assisted stripping is a novel approach to H- charge exchange that overcomes long-standing limitations associated with the traditional, foil-based method of producing high-intensity, time-structured beams of protons. This paper reports on the first successful demonstration of the laser stripping technique for microsecond duration beams. Stability of ionisation-injection-based laser-plasma accelerators

Laser-plasma acceleration (LPA) is a compact technique to accelerate electron bunches to highly relativistic energies, making it a promising candidate to power radiation sources for industrial or medical applications. We report on the generation of electron beams from an 80 MeV-level LPA setup based on ionisation injection (II) over a duration of 8 hours at a repetition rate of 2.5 Hz, resulting in 72,000 consecutive shots with charge injection and acceleration. Amendment of the numerical dispersion in particle-in-cell methods for evaluation of charges of self-injected electron bunches in the laser wakefield acceleration

Total charge and energy evaluations for the electron beams generated in the laser wakefield acceleration (LWFA) is the primary step in the determination of the required target and laser parameters. Beyond optimization -- supervised learning applications in relativistic laser-plasma experiments

We explore the applications of machine learning techniques in relativistic laser-plasma experiments beyond optimization purposes. We predict the beam charge of electrons produced in a laser wakefield accelerator given the laser wavefront change caused by a deformable mirror.
