We study the zero-temperature criticality of the Ising model on two-dimensional dynamical triangulations to contemplate its physics. As it turns out, an inhomogeneous nature of the system yields an interesting phase diagram and the physics at the zero temperature is quite sensitive about how we cool down the system. We show the existence of a continuous parameter that characterizes the way we approach the zero-temperature critical point and it may enter in a critical exponent.
Clusters and droplets of positive spins in the two-dimensional Ising model percolate at the Curie temperature in absence of external field. The percolative exponents coincide with the magnetic ones for droplets but not for clusters. We use integrable field theory to determine amplitude ratios which characterize the approach to criticality within these two universality classes of percolative critical behavior.
We investigate the performance of neural networks in identifying critical behaviour in the 2D Ising model with next-to-nearest neighbour interactions. We train DNN and CNN based classifiers on the Ising model configurations with nearest neighbour interactions and test the ability of our models to identify the critical (cross-over) region, as well as the phases in the presence of next-to-nearest neighbour interactions. Our main objective is to investigate whether our models can learn the notion of criticality and universality, in contrast to merely identifying the phases by simply learning the …
Higher-order vertices at zero external momenta for the scalar field theory describing the critical behaviour of the Ising model are studied within the field-theoretical renormalization group (RG) approach in three dimensions. Dimensionless six-point g_6 and eight-point g_8 effective coupling constants are calculated in the three-loop approximation. Their numerical values, universal at criticality, are estimated by means of the Pade and Pade-Borel summation of the RG expansions found and by putting the renormalized quartic coupling constant equal to its universal fixed-point value known from si…
The frustrated Ising model in two dimensions is revisited. The frustration is quantified in terms of the number of non-trivial plaquettes which is invariant under the Nishimori gauge symmetry. The exact ground state energy is calculated using Edmond's algorithm. A novel cluster algorithm is designed which treats gauge equivalent spin glasses on equal footing and allows for efficient simulations near criticality. As a first application, the specific heat near criticality is investigated.
Much has been learned about universal properties of entanglement entropies in ground states of quantum many-body lattice systems. Here we unveil universal properties of the average bipartite entanglement entropy of eigenstates of the paradigmatic quantum Ising model in one dimension. The leading term exhibits a volume-law scaling that we argue is universal for translationally invariant quadratic models. The subleading term is constant at the critical field for the quantum phase transition and vanishes otherwise (in the thermodynamic limit), i.e., the critical field can be identified from suble…
The most relevant thermal perturbation of the continuous d=2 minimal conformal theory with c=7/10 (Tricritical Ising Model) is treated here. This model describes the scaling region of the phi^6 universality class near the tricritical point. The problematic IR divergences of the naive perturbative expansion around conformal theories are dealt within the OPE approach developed at all orders by the authors. The main result is a description of the short distance behaviour of correlators that is compared with existing long distance expansion (form factors approach) related to the integrability of t…
We investigate the global persistence properties of critical systems relaxing from an initial state with non-vanishing value of the order parameter (e.g., the magnetization in the Ising model). The persistence probability of the global order parameter displays two consecutive regimes in which it decays algebraically in time with two distinct universal exponents. The associated crossover is controlled by the initial value m_0 of the order parameter and the typical time at which it occurs diverges as m_0 vanishes. Monte-Carlo simulations of the two-dimensional Ising model with Glauber dynamics d…

We compute two- and three-point functions at criticality for the three-dimensional Ising universality class. To this end we simulate the improved Blume-Capel model at the critical temperature on lattices of a linear size up to $L=1600$. As check also simulations of the spin-1/2 Ising model are performed. We find $f_{σσε} = 1.051(1)$ and $f_{εεε} =1.533(5)$ for operator product expansion coefficients. These results are consistent with but less precise than those recently obtained by using the bootstrap method. An important ingredient in our simulations is a variance reduced estimator of $N$-poi…
We study the $O(2)$ model with $\mathbb{Z}_4$-symmetric perturbations within the framework of nonperturbative renormalization group (RG) for spatial dimensionality $d=2$ and $d=3$. In a unified framework we resolve the relatively complex crossover behavior emergent due to the presence of multiple RG fixed points. In $d=3$ the system is controlled by the $XY$, Ising, and low-$T$ fixed points in presence of a dangerously irrelevant anisotropy coupling $λ$. In $d=2$ the anisotropy coupling is marginal and the physical picture is governed by the interplay between two distinct lines of RG fixed poi…
We introduce topological invariants for gapless systems and study the associated boundary phenomena. More generally, the symmetry properties of the low-energy conformal field theory (CFT) provide discrete invariants, establishing the notion of symmetry-enriched quantum criticality. The charges of nonlocal scaling operators, or more generally of symmetry defects, are topological and imply the presence of localized edge modes. We primarily focus on the $1+1d$ case where the edge has a topological degeneracy, whose finite-size splitting can be exponential or algebraic in system size depending on …
There has been recent interest in conformal twisted boundary conditions and their realisations in solvable lattice models. For the Ising and Potts quantum chains, these amount to boundary terms that are related to duality, which is a proper symmetry of the model at criticality. Thus, at criticality, the duality-twisted Ising model is translationally invariant, similar to the more familiar cases of periodic and antiperiodic boundary conditions. The complete finite-size spectrum of the Ising quantum chain with this peculiar boundary condition is obtained.
In quantum spin-1 chains, there is a nonlocal unitary transformation known as the Kennedy-Tasaki transformation $U_{\text{KT}}$, which defines a duality between the Haldane phase and the $\mathbb{Z}_2 \times \mathbb{Z}_2$ symmetry-breaking phase. In this paper, we find that $U_{\text{KT}}$ also defines a duality between a topological Ising critical phase and a trivial Ising critical phase, which provides a "hidden symmetry breaking" interpretation for the topological criticality. Moreover, since the duality relates different phases of matter, we argue that a model with self-duality (i.e., inva…
A nonperturbative analytical description of the SU(2)_1 quantum critical point in an explicitly dimerized two-leg spin-1/2 Heisenberg ladder is presented. It is shown that this criticality essentially coincides with that emerging in a weakly dimerized spin-1 chain with a small Haldane gap. The approach is based on the mapping onto an SO(3)-symmetric model of three strongly coupled quantum Ising chains. This mapping is used to establish the correspondence between all physical fields of the spin ladder and those characterizing the SU(2)_1 criticality at the infrared fixed point.
We introduce three non-local observables for the two-dimensional Ising model. At criticality, conformal field theory may be used to obtain theoretical predictions for their behavior. These formulae are explicit enough to show that their asymptotics are described by highest weights $h_{pq}$ from the Kac table for c=1/2 distinct from those of the three unitary representations (0, 1/16 and 1/2).
