Fourier ptychography is a recently explored imaging method for overcoming the diffraction limit of conventional cameras with applications in microscopy and yielding high-resolution images. In order to splice together low-resolution images taken under different illumination angles of coherent light source, an iterative phase retrieval algorithm is adopted. However, the reconstruction procedure is slow and needs a good many of overlap in the Fourier domain for the continuous recorded low-resolution images and is also worse under system aberrations such as noise or random update sequence. In this paper, we propose a new retrieval algorithm that is based on convolutional neural networks. Once well trained, our model can perform high-quality reconstruction rapidly by using the graphics processing unit. The experiments demonstrate that our model achieves better reconstruction results and is more robust under system aberrations.

Ptychography is a well-studied phase imaging method that makes non-invasive imaging possible at a nanometer scale. It has developed into a mainstream technique with various applications across a range of areas such as material science or the defense industry. One major drawback of ptychography is the long data acquisition time due to the high overlap requirement between adjacent illumination areas to achieve a reasonable reconstruction. Traditional approaches with reduced overlap between scanning areas result in reconstructions with artifacts. In this paper, we propose complementing sparsely a…
Recently pretrained generative models have shown promising results for subsampled Fourier Ptychography (FP) in terms of quality of reconstruction for extremely low sampling rate and high noise. However, one of the significant drawbacks of these pretrained generative priors is their limited representation capabilities. Moreover, training these generative models requires access to a large number of fully-observed clean samples of a particular class of images like faces or digits that is prohibitive to obtain in the context of FP. In this paper, we propose to leverage the power of pretrained inve…
Fourier ptychography microscopy(FP) is a recently developed computational imaging approach for microscopic super-resolution imaging. By turning on each light-emitting-diode (LED) located on different position on the LED array sequentially and acquiring the corresponding images that contain different spatial frequency components, high spatial resolution and quantitative phase imaging can be achieved in the case of large field-of-view. Nevertheless, FPM has high requirements for the system construction and data acquisition processes, such as precise LEDs position, accurate focusing and appropria…
We use convolutional neural networks to recover images optically down-sampled by $6.7\times$ using coherent aperture synthesis over a 16 camera array. Where conventional ptychography relies on scanning and oversampling, here we apply decompressive neural estimation to recover full resolution image from a single snapshot, although as shown in simulation multiple snapshots can be used to improve SNR. In place training on experimental measurements eliminates the need to directly calibrate the measurement system. We also present simulations of diverse array camera sampling strategies to explore ho…

Ptychography is a well-established coherent diffraction imaging technique that enables non-invasive imaging of samples at a nanometer scale. It has been extensively used in various areas such as the defense industry or materials science. One major limitation of ptychography is the long data acquisition time due to mechanical scanning of the sample; therefore, approaches to reduce the scan points are highly desired. However, reconstructions with less number of scan points lead to imaging artifacts and significant distortions, hindering a quantitative evaluation of the results. To address this b…
Fourier ptychographic microscopy (FPM) is a computational approach geared towards creating high-resolution and large field-of-view images without mechanical scanning. To acquire color images of histology slides, it often requires sequential acquisitions with red, green, and blue illuminations. The color reconstructions often suffer from coherent artifacts that are not presented in regular incoherent microscopy images. As a result, it remains a challenge to employ FPM for digital pathology applications, where resolution and color accuracy are of critical importance. Here we report a deep learni…
One of the most prominent challenges in the field of diffractive imaging is the phase retrieval (PR) problem: In order to reconstruct an object from its diffraction pattern, the inverse Fourier transform must be computed. This is only possible given the full complex-valued diffraction data, i.e. magnitude and phase. However, in diffractive imaging, generally only magnitudes can be directly measured while the phase needs to be estimated. In this work we specifically consider ptychography, a sub-field of diffractive imaging, where objects are reconstructed from multiple overlapping diffraction i…

Ptychography has rapidly grown in the fields of X-ray and electron imaging for its unprecedented ability to achieve nano or atomic scale resolution while simultaneously retrieving chemical or magnetic information from a sample. A ptychographic reconstruction is achieved by means of solving a complex inverse problem that imposes constraints both on the acquisition and on the analysis of the data, which typically precludes real-time imaging due to computational cost involved in solving this inverse problem. In this work we propose PtychoNN, a novel approach to solve the ptychography reconstructi…

This paper proposes a learning-based denoising method called FlashLight CNN (FLCNN) that implements a deep neural network for image denoising. The proposed approach is based on deep residual networks and inception networks and it is able to leverage many more parameters than residual networks alone for denoising grayscale images corrupted by additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN). FlashLight CNN demonstrates state of the art performance when compared quantitatively and visually with the current state of the art image denoising methods.
The image classification problem has been deeply investigated by the research community, with computer vision algorithms and with the help of Neural Networks. The aim of this paper is to build an image classifier for satellite images of urban scenes that identifies the portions of the images in which a road is located, separating these portions from the rest. Unlike conventional computer vision algorithms, convolutional neural networks (CNNs) provide accurate and reliable results on this task. Our novel approach uses a sliding window to extract patches out of the whole image, data augmentation…
CNN is very popular neural network architecture in modern days. It is primarily most used tool for vision related task to extract the important features from the given image. Moreover, CNN works as a filter to extract the important features using convolutional operation in distinct layers. In existing CNN architectures, to train the network on given input, only single form of given input is fed to the network. In this paper, new architecture has been proposed where given input is passed in more than one form to the network simultaneously by sharing the layers with both forms of input. We incor…

Convolutional neural networks (CNNs) have achieved remarkable success in automatically segmenting organs or lesions on 3D medical images. Recently, vision transformer networks have exhibited exceptional performance in 2D image classification tasks. Compared with CNNs, transformer networks have an appealing advantage of extracting long-range features due to their self-attention algorithm. Therefore, we propose a CNN-Transformer combined model, called BiTr-Unet, with specific modifications for brain tumor segmentation on multi-modal MRI scans. Our BiTr-Unet achieves good performance on the BraTS…
In this research, we propose a tiny image segmentation model, L^3U-net, that works on low-resource edge devices in real-time. We introduce a data folding technique that reduces inference latency by leveraging the parallel convolutional layer processing capability of the CNN accelerators. We also deploy the proposed model to such a device, MAX78000, and the results show that L^3U-net achieves more than 90% accuracy over two different segmentation datasets with 10 fps.

Recently, deep learning has become much more popular in computer vision area. The Convolution Neural Network (CNN) has brought a breakthrough in images segmentation areas, especially, for medical images. In this regard, U-Net is the predominant approach to medical image segmentation task. However, we found that the classical U-Net architecture has limitation in several aspects. Therefore, we applied modifications: 1) designed efficient CNN architecture to replace encoder an…

Change detection (CD) is an essential earth observation technique. It captures the dynamic information of land objects. With the rise of deep learning, convolutional neural networks (CNN) have shown great potential in CD. However, current CNN models introduce backbone architectures that lose detailed information during learning. Moreover, current CNN models are heavy in parameters, which prevents their deployment on edge devices such as UAVs. In this work, we tackle this issue by proposing RDP-Net: a region detail preserving network for CD. We propose an efficient training strategy that constr…
