We model the Higgs condensate of the Standard Model as a relativistic quantum fluid analogous to superfluid helium. We find that the low-lying excitations of the Higgs condensate behave like two relativistic Higgs fields. The lighter Higgs boson has a mass of order $10^2$ GeV. We identify this light Higgs particle with the new LHC resonance at 125 GeV. The heavy Higgs boson has a mass around 750 GeV consistent with our recent phenomenological analysis of the preliminary LHC Run 2 data in the golden channel. We critical compare our theoretical scenario with two Higgs bosons to the available LHC Run 2 data.
Recently, we proposed to picture the Higgs condensate of the Standard Model as a quantum liquid analogous to the superfluid Helium II. In this scenario the Higgs condensate excitations resemble closely two Standard Model Higgs bosons. The lightest Higgs boson was already identified with the LHC narrow resonance at 125 GeV. Concerning the heavy Higgs boson, we found preliminary evidence in our previous phenomenological analysis in the so-called golden channel. In the present note we compared our proposal to the full Run 2 data set released recently by the ATLAS Collaboration. Even though we do …
We compare our proposal for an additional heavy Standard Model Higgs boson to the available full data set collected by the CMS detector during Run 2 at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 138 fb$^{-1}$. The CMS Collaboration performed a search for a high mass Higgs boson decaying into a pair of W bosons in the dileptonic channel. Our analysis of the CMS data indicated the presence of a broad excess in the mass range 600 GeV - 800 GeV with respect to the expected Standard Model background with a rather significative statistical significance. We found tha…
Higgs resonance modes in condensed matter systems are generally broad; meaning large decay widths or short relaxation times. This common feature has obscured and limited their observation to a select few systems. Contrary to this, the present work predicts that Higgs resonances in magnetic field induced, three-dimensional magnon Bose-condensates have vanishingly small decay widths. Specifically for parameters relating to TlCuCl$_3$, we find an energy ($Δ_H$) to width ($Γ_H$) ratio $Δ_H/Γ_H\sim500$, making this the narrowest predicted Higgs mode in a condensed matter system, some two orders of …
We study the resonant decay of the primordial Standard Model Higgs condensate after inflation into $SU(2)$ gauge bosons on the lattice. We find that the non-Abelian interactions between the gauge bosons quickly extend the momentum distribution towards high values, efficiently destroying the condensate after the onset of backreaction. For the inflationary scale $H = 10^8$ GeV, we find that 90% of the Higgs condensate has decayed after $n \sim 10$ oscillation cycles. This differs significantly from the Abelian case where, given the same coupling strengths, most of the condensate would persist af…
We construct the first analytic examples of non-homogeneous condensates in the Georgi-Glashow model at finite density in $(2+1)$ dimensions. The non-homogeneous condensates, which live within a cylinder of finite spatial volume, possess a novel topological charge that prevents them from decaying in the trivial vacuum. Also the non-Abelian magnetic flux can be computed explicitly. These solutions exist for constant and non-constant Higgs profile and, depending on the length of the cylinder, finite density transitions occur. In the case in which the Higgs profile is not constant, the full system…
We present a realization of the idea that the Higgs boson is mainly a bound state of neutrinos induced by strong four-fermion interactions. The conflicts of this idea with the measured values of the top quark and Higgs boson masses are overcome by introducing, in addition to the right-handed neutrino, a new fermion singlet, which, at low energies, implements the inverse see-saw mechanism. The singlet fermions also develop a scalar bound state which mixes with the Higgs boson. This allows us to obtain a small Higgs boson mass even if the couplings are large, as required in composite scalar scen…
Semilocal and electroweak strings are well-known to be unstable against unwinding by the condensation of the second Higgs component in their cores. A large class of current models of dark matter contains dark scalar fields coupled to the Higgs sector of the Standard Model (Higgs portal) and/or dark U(1) gauge fields. It is shown, that Higgs-portal-type couplings and a gauge kinetic mixing term of the dark U(1) gauge field have a significant stabilising effect on semilocal strings in the "visible" sector.
We present the Higgs mechanism in the context of the EW-scale $ν_R$ model in which electroweak symmetry is dynamically broken by condensates of mirror quark and right-handed neutrino through the exchange of one fundamental Higgs doublet and one fundamental Higgs triplet, respectively. The formation of these condensates is dynamically investigated by using the Schwinger-Dyson approach. The occurrence of these condensates will give rise to the rich Higgs spectrum. In addition, the VEVs of Higgs fields is also discussed in this dynamical phenomenon.
By considering Higgs modes within the Ginzburg-Landau framework, we study influences of a rotated magnetic field on the color-flavor-locked-type matter of dense QCD. We demonstrate, in a model-independent way, that a diquark condensate may be triggered by the magnetic response of rotated-charged Higgs modes, in addition to the known color-flavor-locked condensate. Moreover, the condensate is applied to explore formations of vortices in the presence of external magnetic fields. The superfluid-like vortices are constructed for the magnetic-induced condensate. In the situation including both kind…
We propose a scale invariant model of dynamical electroweak symmetry breaking via top condensation within the minimal top condensate see-saw model. The classical scale invariance is realized nonlinearly by introducing conformal compensator scalar field, the dilaton, which plays crucial role in successful predictions for the Higgs boson. The dilaton mass and its mixing with the composite Higgs boson appears only at 2-loop level, both being proportional to the hierarchy between the electroweak and compositeness scales, $\propto v/Λ$. The mass scales in our model are generated via the mechanism o…
We investigate the Higgs transition within the four dimensional $SU(2)-$ gauge-Higgs model in search for an order parameter as a function of the Higgs field hopping parameter, $κ$, using Lattice technique. We measure the Higgs condensate after applying Landau Gauge Fixing and study the corresponding susceptibility, magnetization and fourth order Binder cumulant using four different spatial volumes with $N_τ=2$. The computation is carried out with gauge coupling, $β_g = 8$, for a range of scalar self-coupling, $λ= \{0.00010, 0.00350\}$, with emphasis near the critical end-point. Finite size sca…
For a scalar theory with a global $O(N)$ symmetry, when $N=2$ a spatially inhomogeneous condensate arises when the term in the Lagrangian with two spatial derivatives has a negative coefficient. If the condensate for such a chiral spiral includes only one mode, characterized by a momentum $k_0 \hat{z}$, then in perturbation theory at nonzero temperature the propagator for the static mode has a double pole when $\vec{k}^2 = k_0^2$. We conjecture that since chiral spirals spontaneously break both global and spacetime symmetries, that such double poles are a universal property of their static tra…
Finite temperature effects in the Standard Model tend to restore the electroweak symmetry in the early universe, but new fields coupled to the higgs field may as well reverse this tendency, leading to the so-called electroweak symmetry non-restoration (EW SNR) scenario. Previous works on EW SNR often assume that the reversal is due to the thermal fluctuations of new fields with negative quartic couplings to the higgs, and they tend to find that a large number of new fields are required. We observe that EW SNR can be minimally realized if the field(s) coupled to the higgs field develop(s) a sta…
We perform an extensive analysis of linear fluctuations during preheating in Higgs inflation in the Einstein frame, where the fields are minimally coupled to gravity, but the field-space metric is nontrivial. The self-resonance of the Higgs and the Higgsed gauge bosons are governed by effective masses that scale differently with the nonminimal couplings and evolve differently in time. Coupled metric perturbations enhance Higgs self-resonance and make it possible for Higgs inflation to preheat solely through this channel. For $ξ\gtrsim 100$ the total energy of the Higgs-inflaton condensate can …
We study the role of the Standard Model Higgs condensate, formed during cosmological inflation, in the epoch of reheating that follows. We focus on the scenario where the inflaton decays slowly and perturbatively, so that there is a long period between the end of inflation and the beginning of radiation domination. The Higgs condensate decays non-perturbatively during this period, and we show that it heats the primordial plasma to much higher temperatures than would result from the slowly-decaying inflaton alone. We discuss the effect of this hot plasma on the thermalization of the inflaton's …
