The Asymptotic Iteration Method (AIM) is a technique for solving analytically and approximately the linear second-order differential equation, especially the eigenvalue problems that frequently appear in theoretical and mathematical physics. The analysis and mathematical justifications of the success and failure of the asymptotic iteration method are detailed in this work. A theorem explaining why the asymptotic iteration method works for the eigenvalue problem is presented. As a byproduct, a new procedure to generate unlimited classes of exactly solvable differential equations is also introduced.
This paper is devoted to the scattering of photons at electrons in models of non-relativistic quantum mechanical particles coupled minimally to the soft modes of the quantized electromagnetic field. We prove existence of scattering states involving an arbitrary number of asymptotic photons of arbitrarily high energy. Previously, upper bounds on the photon energies seemed necessary in the case of $n>1$ asymptotic photons and non-confined, non-relativistic charged particles.
The purpose of this article is to give a streamlined and self-contained treatment of the long-time asymptotics of the Toda lattice for decaying initial data in the soliton and in the similarity region via the method of nonlinear steepest descent.
We point out that recently published analyses of null and timelike infinity and long-range structures in electrodynamics to large extent rediscover results present in literature. At the same time, some of the conclusions these recent works put forward may prove controversial. In view of these facts we find it desirable to revisit the analysis taken up more than two decades ago, starting from earlier works on null infinity by other authors.
In this paper, the high-frequency diffraction of a plane wave incident along a planar boundary turning into a smooth convex contour, so that the curvature undergoes a jump, is asymptotically analysed. An approach modifying the Fock parabolic-equation method is developed. Asymptotic formulas for the wavefield in the illuminated area, shadow, and the penumbra are derived. The penumbral field is characterized by novel and previously unseen special functions that resemble Fock's integrals.
We discuss the exotic properties of the heat-trace asymptotics for a regular-singular operator with general boundary conditions at the singular end, as observed by Falomir, Muschietti, Pisani and Seeley as well as by Kirsten, Loya and Park. We explain how their results alternatively follow from the general heat kernel construction by Mooers, a natural question that has not been addressed yet, as the latter work did not elaborate explicitly on the singular structure of the heat trace expansion beyond the statement of non-polyhomogeneity of the heat kernel.
We give a study of some molecular vibration potentials by solving the D-dimensional Schrodinger equation using the asymptotic iteration method (AIM). The eigenvalue values obtained by the AIM are found to agree with analytic solutions. The corresponding eigenfunctions are also obtained using the AIM
By random complex zeroes we mean the zero set of a random entire function whose Taylor coefficients are independent complex-valued Gaussian variables, and the variance of the k-th coefficient is 1/k!. This zero set is distribution invariant with respect to isometries of the complex plane. Extending the previous results of Sodin and Tsirelson, we compute the variance of linear statistics of random complex zeroes, and find close to optimal conditions on a test-function that yield asymptotic normality of fluctuations of the corresponding linear statistics. We also provide examples of test-functio…
We reconsider the theory of scattering for the Wave-Schrödinger system and more precisely the local Cauchy problem with infinite initial time, which is the main step in the construction of the wave operators. Using a method due to Nakanishi, we eliminate a loss of regularity between the Schrödinger asymptotic data and the Schrödinger solution in the treatment of that problem, in the special case of vanishing asymptotic data for the wave field.
We present a method for obtaining the quasi-exact solutions of the Rabi Hamiltonian in the framework of the asymptotic iteration method. The energy eigenvalues, the eigenfunctions and the associated Bender-Dunne orthogonal polynomials are deduced. The latter prove to have a nonpositive definite norm.
The asymptotic iteration method (AIM) is used to obtain both special exact solutions and general approximate solutions for a Hydrogen-like atom confined in a spherical box of arbitrary radius R. Critical box radii, at which states are no longer bound, are also calculated. The results are compared with those in the literature.
An asymptotic interation method for solving second-order homogeneous linear differential equations of the form y'' = lambda(x) y' + s(x) y is introduced, where lambda(x) \neq 0 and s(x) are C-infinity functions. Applications to Schroedinger type problems, including some with highly singular potentials, are presented.
The asymptotic iteration method (AIM) is applied to obtain highly accurate eigenvalues of the radial Schroedinger equation with the singular potential V(r)=r^2+λ/r^α(α,λ> 0) in arbitrary dimensions. Certain fundamental conditions for the application of AIM, such as a suitable asymptotic form for the wave function, and the termination condition for the iteration process, are discussed. Several suggestions are introduced to improve the rate of convergence and to stabilize the computation. AIM offers a simple, accurate, and efficient method for the treatment of singular potentials such as V(r) va…
We have used Asymptotic Iteration Method (AIM) for obtaining the eigenvalues of the Schrodinger's equation for a deformed well problem representing trigonometric functions. By solving the problem, we have found that the Schrodinger's equation for the considered potential has quasi-exact solutions. Additionally, we have also calculated the perturbation expansion of energy eigenvalues and found very simple analytical expression of the energy. Finally, we have considered more general cases and obtained energy eigenvalues for arbitrary potential parameters.
In this article, we present the analytical solution of the radial Schrödinger equation for the Hulthén potential within the framework of the asymptotic iteration method by using an approximation to the centrifugal potential for any $l$ states. We obtain the energy eigenvalues and the corresponding eigenfunctions for different screening parameters. The wave functions are physical and energy eigenvalues are in good agreement with the results obtained by other methods for different $δ$ values. In order to demonstrate this, the results of the asymptotic iteration method are compared with the resul…
We apply the asymptotic iteration method (AIM) [J. Phys. A: Math. Gen. 36, 11807 (2003)] to solve new classes of second-order homogeneous linear differential equation. In particular, solutions are found for a general class of eigenvalue problems which includes Schroedinger problems with Coulomb, harmonic oscillator, or Poeschl-Teller potentials, as well as the special eigenproblems studied recently by Bender et al [J. Phys. A: Math. Gen. 34 9835 (2001)] and generalized in the present paper to higher dimensions.
We present the exact and iterative solutions of the radial Schrödinger equation for a class of potential, $V(r)=\frac{A}{r^{2}}-\frac{B}{r}+Cr^κ$, for various values of $κ$ from -2 to 2, for any $n$ and $l$ quantum states by applying the asymptotic iteration method. The global analysis of this potential family by using the asymptotic iteration method results in exact analytical solutions for the values of $κ=0 ,-1$ and -2. Nevertheless, there are no analytical solutions for the cases $κ=1$ and 2. Therefore, the energy eigenvalues are obtained numerically. Our results are in excellent agreement…
We derive a formula that simplifies the original asymptotic iteration method formulation to find the energy eigenvalues for the analytically solvable cases. We then show that there is a connection between the asymptotic iteration and the Nikiforov--Uvarov methods, which both solve the second order linear ordinary differential equations analytically.
We derive exact analytical solutions of the Klein-Gordon equation for Makarov potential by means of the asymptotic iteration method. The energy eigenvalues are given in a closed form and the corresponding normalized eigenfunctions are obtained in terms of the generalized Laguerre polynomials and hypergeometrical functions.
A simple exact analytical solution of the relativistic Duffin-Kemmer-Petiau equation within the framework of the asymptotic iteration method is presented. Exact bound state energy eigenvalues and corresponding eigenfunctions are determined for the relativistic harmonic oscillator as well as the Coulomb potentials. As a non-trivial example, the anharmonic oscillator is solved and the energy eigenvalues are obtained within the perturbation theory using the asymptotic iteration method.
We revisit the damped string equation on a compact interval with a variety of boundary conditions and derive an infinite sequence of trace formulas associated with it, employing methods familiar from supersymmetric quantum mechanics. We also derive completeness and Riesz basis results (with parentheses) for the associated root functions under less smoothness assumptions on the coefficients than usual, using operator theoretic methods (rather than detailed eigenvalue and root function asymptotics) only.
Using the asymptotic iteration method, we obtain the S-wave solution for a short-range three-parameter central potential with 1/r singularity and with a non-orbital barrier. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first attempt at calculating the energy spectrum for this potential, which was introduced by H. Bahlouli and A. D. Alhaidari and for which they obtained the "potential parameter spectrum". Our results are also independently verified using a direct method of diagonalizing the Hamiltonian matrix in the J-matrix basis.
For non-zero $\ell$ values, we present an analytical solution of the radial Schrödinger equation for the rotating Morse potential using the Pekeris approximation within the framework of the Asymptotic Iteration Method. The bound state energy eigenvalues and corresponding wave functions are obtained for a number of diatomic molecules and the results are compared with the findings of the super-symmetry, the hypervirial perturbation, the Nikiforov-Uvarov, the variational, the shifted 1/N and the modified shifted 1/N expansion methods.
In this work, we study the exact solution of Dirac equation in the hyper-spherical coordinate under influence of separable q-Deformed quantum potentials. The q-deformed hyperbolic Rosen-Morse potential is perturbed by q-deformed non-central trigonometric Scarf potentials, where whole of them can be solved by using Asymptotic Iteration Method (AIM). This work is limited to spin symmetry case. The relativistic energy equation and orbital quantum number equation lD-1 have been obtained using Asymptotic Iteration Method. The upper radial wave function equations and angular wave function equations …
We introduce a new approach to the the asymptotic iteration method (AIM) by means of which we establish the standard AIM connection with the continued fractions technique and we develop a novel termination condition in terms of the approximants. With the help of this alternative termination condition and certain properties of continuous fractions, we derive a closed formula for the asymptotic function $α$ of the AIM technique in terms of an infinite series. Furthermore, we show that such a series converges pointwise to $α$ which, in turn, can be interpreted as a specific term of the minimal so…
We present a new proof of linear stability of the Schwarzschild solution to gravitational perturbations. Our approach employs the system of linearised gravity in the new geometric gauge of \cite{benomio_kerr}, specialised to the $|a|=0$ case. The proof fundamentally relies on the novel structure of the transport equations in the system. Indeed, while exploiting the well-known decoupling of two gauge invariant linearised quantities into spin $\pm 2$ Teukolsky equations, we make enhanced use of the red-shifted transport equations and their stabilising properties to control the gauge dependent pa…
The rational solutions of the Painlevé-II equation appear in several applications and are known to have many remarkable algebraic and analytic properties. They also have several different representations, useful in different ways for establishing these properties. In particular, Riemann-Hilbert representations have proven to be useful for extracting the asymptotic behavior of the rational solutions in the limit of large degree (equivalently the large-parameter limit). We review the elementary properties of the rational Painlevé-II functions, and then we describe three different Riemann-Hilbert…
