The discovery of gravitational-wave (GW) signals, produced by the coalescence of stellar-mass binary black holes (SBBHs), opens a new window to study the astrophysical origins and dynamical evolutions of compact binaries. In addition, these GW events can be treated as the standard sirens to constrain various cosmological parameters. Both issues require the host identification for these GW events, with help of the spatial resolution of GW detector networks. In this paper, we investigate the capabilities of various detector networks for identifying the SBBHs' host galaxy groups, rather than their host galaxies, which can overcome the influence of galaxies' proper motions in dark matter halos for measuring the cosmological parameters. In our analysis, the group catalog of SDSS DR7 with redshift $z\in(0.01,0.1)$ is considered as an example of the application. We find that for the second-generation (2G) detector network, the host galaxy groups of around $(0.7-6.9)$ SBBHs can be identified per year assuming all sources are $30-30\ M_{\odot}$ binaries, and that all five detectors in the network are in lock 100\% of the time. For the 3G detector network, this number becomes $(3.9-40.0)$ yr$^{-1}$. We also investigate the potential constraint on the Hubble constant $H_0$ by these GW events, if their redshift information is extracted from the candidates of host galaxy groups. We find that, by five-year's full time observations, 2G detector network is expected to give a constraint of $ΔH_0/H_0\sim (1\%,4\%)$, which can be more than two order smaller if considering the 3G detector network.
Gravitational wave signal from the inspiral of stellar-mass binary black hole can be used as standard sirens to perform cosmological inference. This inspiral covers a wide range of frequency bands, from the millihertz band to the audio-band, allowing for detections by both space-borne and ground-based gravitational wave detectors. In this work, we conduct a comprehensive study on the ability to constrain the Hubble constant using the dark standard sirens, or gravitational wave events that lack electromagnetic counterparts. To acquire the redshift information, we weight the galaxies within the …
We consider several well-known f(R) cosmological models and constrain their parameters, namely the deviation parameter b and the cosmological parameters Ω_m and h. We first obtain analytical approximations for the Hubble rate H(z) and the luminosity distance d_L(z) in terms of these parameters, and then test these against the observational expansion rate derived from cosmic chronometers and the distance modulus in the HII galaxy Hubble diagram, obtained in a model-independent way using Gaussian Processes (GP). We first optimize the models based solely on the cosmic chronometers and then repeat…
Dark energy affects the Hubble expansion rate (namely, the expansion history) $H(z)$ by an integral over $w(z)$. However, the usual observables are the luminosity distances or the angular diameter distances, which measure the distance-redshift relation. Actually, dark energy affects the distances (and the growth factor) by a further integration over functions of $H(z)$. Thus, the direct measurements of the Hubble parameter $H(z)$ at different redshifts are of great importance for constraining the properties of dark energy. In this paper, we show how the typical dark energy models, for example,…

We investigate how the constraint results of inflation models are affected by considering the latest local measurement of $H_0$ in the global fit. We use the observational data, including the Planck CMB full data, the BICEP2 and Keck Array CMB B-mode data, the BAO data, and the latest measurement of Hubble constant, to constrain the $Λ$CDM+$r$+$N_{\rm eff}$ model, and the obtained 1$σ$ and 2$σ$ contours of $(n_s, r)$ are compared to the theoretical predictions of selected inflationary models. We find that, in this fit, the scale invariance is only excluded at the 3.3$σ$ level, and $ΔN_{\rm eff…
Large, non-standard neutrino self-interactions have been shown to resolve the $\sim 4σ$ tension in Hubble constant measurements and a milder tension in the amplitude of matter fluctuations. We demonstrate that interactions of the necessary size imply the existence of a force-carrier with a large neutrino coupling ($> 10^{-4}$) and mass in the keV -- 100 MeV range. This mediator is subject to stringent cosmological and laboratory bounds, and we find that nearly all realizations of such a particle are excluded by existing data unless it carries spin 0 and couples almost exclusively to $τ$-flavor…
The Hubble constant ($H_{0}$) is a measurement to describe the expansion rate of the Universe in the current era. However, there is a $4.4σ$ discrepancy between the measurements from the early Universe and the late Universe. In this research, we propose a model-free and distance-free method to constrain $H_{0}$. Combining Friedman-Lemaître-Robertson-Walker cosmology with geometrical relation of the proper motion of extragalactic jets, the lower limit ($H_{\rm 0,min}$) of $H_{0}$ can be determined using only three cosmology-free observables: the redshifts of the host galaxies, as well as the ap…
Compared with the plentiful researches of the Hubble parameter and deceleration factor, the third time derivative of the scale factor $a(t)$ in the FRW cosmology, namely, the jerk parameter $j$ still lacks attention. In order to study the properties of $j$, we propose several kinds of parameterizations of $j(z)$ as a function of the redshift $z$. By setting the standard $Λ$CDM model as the fiducial model, we constrain the jerk models with the observational Hubble parameter data (OHD) and Type Ia Supernovae (SNe) observations. We find that the perturbation of $j(z)$ favors a value of nearly zer…
We present data from the Supernova Cosmology Project for five high redshift Type Ia supernovae (SNe Ia) that were obtained using the NICMOS infrared camera on the Hubble Space Telescope. We add two SNe from this sample to a rest-frame I-band Hubble diagram, doubling the number of high redshift supernovae on this diagram. This I-band Hubble diagram is consistent with a flat universe (Omega_Matter, Omega_Lambda= 0.29, 0.71). A homogeneous distribution of large grain dust in the intergalactic medium (replenishing dust) is incompatible with the data and is excluded at the 5 sigma confidence level,…
In recent years, the rise in the number of Lyman Break Galaxies detected at high redshifts z >= 6 has opened up the possibility of understanding early galaxy formation physics in great detail. In particular, the faint-end slope (alpha) of the Ultra-violet luminosity function (UV LF) of these galaxies is a potential probe of feedback effects that suppress star formation in low mass haloes. In this work, we propose a proof-of-concept calculation for constraining the fluctuating UV background during reionization by constraining alpha in different volumes of the Universe. Because of patchy reioniz…
A new method is proposed to measure the Hubble constant H0 through the mean transmitted flux observed from high redshift quasars. A semi-analytical model for the cosmological-independent volume density distribution function is adopted which allows one to obtain constraints over the cosmological parameters once a moderate knowlegde of the InterGalactic Medium (IGM) parameters is assumed. By assuming a flat LCDM cosmology, we show that such method alone cannot provide good constraints on the pair of free parameters (h, Omega_m). However, it is possible possible to break the degeneracy on the mas…
We show that the measured abundance of ultra-faint lensed galaxies at $z\approx 6$ in the Hubble Frontier Fields (HFF) provides stringent constraints on the parameter space of i) Dark Matter models based on keV sterile neutrinos; ii) the "fuzzy" wavelike Dark Matter models, based on Bose-Einstein condensate of ultra-light particles. For the case of the sterile neutrinos, we consider two production mechanisms: resonant production through the mixing with active neutrinos and the decay of scalar particles. For the former model, we derive constraints for the combination of sterile neutrino mass $m…
The investigation of distant galaxy formation and evolution is a powerful tool to constrain dark matter scenarios, supporting and in some cases surpassing other astrophysical and experimental probes. The recent completion of the Hubble Frontier Fields (HFF) programme combining ultra-deep Hubble Space Telescope observations and the magnification power of gravitational lensing produced by foreground galaxy clusters has enabled the detection of the faintest primordial galaxies ever studied. Here we show how the number density of such primordial galaxies allows to constrain a variety of DM models …

Constraining Cosmological Parameters with Viscous Modified Chaplygin Gas and Generalized Cosmic Chaplygin Gas Models in Horava-Lifshitz Gravity: Utilizing Late-time Datasets
The possibility of using lensed relativistic jets on very small angular scales to construct proper models of spiral lens galaxies and to independently determine the Hubble constant is considered. The system B0218+357 is used as an example to illustrate that there exists a great choice of model parameters adequately reproducing its observed large-scale properties but leading to a significant spread in the Hubble constant. The jet image position angle is suggested as an additional parameter that allows the range of models under consideration to be limited. It is shown that the models for which t…
Dynamical dark energy has been recently suggested as a promising and physical way to solve the 3.4 sigma tension on the value of the Hubble constant $H_0$ between the direct measurement of Riess et al. (2016) (R16, hereafter) and the indirect constraint from Cosmic Microwave Anisotropies obtained by the Planck satellite under the assumption of a $Λ$CDM model. In this paper, by parameterizing dark energy evolution using the $w_0$-$w_a$ approach, and considering a $12$ parameter extended scenario, we find that: a) the tension on the Hubble constant can indeed be solved with dynamical dark energy…
We evaluate the local variance of the Hubble Constant $H_0$ with low-z Type Ia Supernovae (SNe). Our analyses are performed using a hemispherical comparison method in order to test whether taking the bulk flow motion into account can reconcile the measurement of the Hubble Constant $H_0$ from standard candles ($H_0 = 73.8 \pm 2.4 \; \mathrm{km \; s}^{-1}\; \mathrm{Mpc}^{-1}$) with that of the Planck's Cosmic Microwave Background data ($H_0 = 67.8 \pm 0.9 \; \mathrm{km \; s}^{-1} \mathrm{Mpc}^{-1}$). We obtaina Hubble Constant maximal variance of $δH_0 = (2.30 \pm 0.86) \; \mathrm{km \; s}^{-1}…
Extragalactic dispersion measures (DMs) obtained from observations of fast radio bursts (FRBs) are an excellent tool for probing intergalactic medium (IGM) and for conducting cosmography. However, the DM contribution from the IGM (${\rm DM_{IGM}}$) depends on the fraction of baryon mass in the IGM, $f_{\rm IGM}$, which is not properly constrained. As $f_{\rm IGM}(z)$ is geometrically related to the Hubble parameter $H(z)$ and ${\rm DM_{IGM}}(z)$, here we propose that combining two independent measurements of FRBs and $H(z)$ in similar redshift ranges provides a novel and cosmology-free method …
We use the BayeSN hierarchical probabilistic SED model to analyse the optical-NIR ($BVriYJH$) light curves of 86 Type Ia supernovae (SNe Ia) from the Carnegie Supernova Project to investigate the SN Ia host galaxy dust law distribution and correlations between SN Ia Hubble residuals and host mass. Our Bayesian analysis simultaneously constrains the mass step and dust $R_V$ population distribution by leveraging optical-NIR colour information. We demonstrate how a simplistic analysis where individual $R_V$ values are first estimated for each SN separately, and then the sample variance of these p…
We present a determination of the Hubble constant from the joint, free-form analysis of 8 strongly, quadruply lensing systems. In the concordance cosmology, we find $H_0 = 71.8^{+3.9}_{-3.3}\,\mathrm{km}\,\mathrm{s}^{-1}\,\mathrm{Mpc}^{-1}$ with a precision of $4.97\%$. This is in agreement with the latest measurements from Supernovae Type Ia and Planck observations of the cosmic microwave background. Our precision is lower compared to these and other recent time-delay cosmography determinations, because our modelling strategies reflect the systematic uncertainties of lensing degeneracies. We …
In accelerating dark energy models, the estimates of H0 from Sunyaev-Zel'dovich effect (SZE) and X-ray surface brightness of galaxy clusters may depend on the matter content (Omega_M), the curvature (Omega_K) and the equation of state parameter (w). In this article, by using a sample of 25 angular diameter distances from galaxy clusters obtained through SZE/X-ray technique, we constrain H_0 in the framework of a general LCDM models (free curvature) and a flat XCDM model with equation of state parameter, w=p_x/ρ_x (w=constant). In order to broke the degeneracy on the cosmological parameters, we…
It has recently been pointed out that a gravitational transition taking place at a recent redshift $z_t$, reducing the effective gravitational constant $G_{\rm eff}$ by about $10\%$ for $z>z_t$, has the potential to lead to a resolution of the Hubble tension if $z_t\lesssim 0.01$. Since $H(z)^2\sim G_{\rm eff}$, such a transition would also lead to sharp change of the slope of the Hubble diagram at $z=z_t$ and a sharp decrease in the number of galaxies per redshift bin at $z_t$. Here we attempt to impose constraints on such a transition by using two robust low-z redshift survey datasets ($z<0.…

Dark matter constitutes the great majority of the matter content in the Universe, but its microscopic nature remains an intriguing mystery, with profound implications for particle physics, astrophysics and cosmology. Here we shed light on the longstanding issue of whether the dark matter is warm or cold by combining the measurements of the galaxy luminosity functions out to high redshifts z~10 from the Hubble Space Telescope with the recent cosmological data on the reionization history of the Universe from the Planck mission. We derive robust and tight bounds on the mass of warm dark matter pa…
The multi-messenger data of neutron star merger events are promising for constraining the Hubble constant. So far, GW170817 is still the unique gravitational wave event with multi-wavelength electromagnetic counterparts. In particular, its radio and X-ray emission have been measured in the past $\sim 3-5$ years. In this work, we fit the long-lasting X-ray, optical, and radio afterglow light curves of GW170817/GRB 170817A, including the forward shock radiation from both the decelerating relativistic GRB outflow and the sub-relativistic kilonova outflow (though whether the second component contr…

The gas mass fraction in galaxy clusters is a convenient tool to use in the context of cosmological studies. Indeed this quantity allows to constrain the universal baryon fraction $Ω_b/Ω_m$, as well as other parameters like the matter density $Ω_m$, the Hubble parameter $h$ or the Equation of State of Dark Energy $w$. This gas mass fraction is also sensitive to baryonic effects that need to be taken into account, and that translate into nuisance parameters. Two of them are the depletion factor $Υ$, and the hydrostatic mass bias $B = (1 - b)$. The first one describes how baryons are depleted in…
We study the influence of relevant quantities, including the density of dark energy (DE), to the predicted Hubble outflow around a system of galaxies. In particular, we are interested in the difference between two models: 1) The standard $Λ$CDM model, with the everywhere constant DE density, and 2) the "Swiss cheese model", where the universe is as old as the standard model, but the DE density is zero on short scales, including the environment of the system. We calculate the current predicted outflow patterns of dwarf galaxies around the Local Group-like system, using different values for the …
Ground-based observatories have been collecting 0.2 - 20 TeV gamma rays from blazars for about twenty years. These gamma rays can experience absorption along the line of sight due to interactions with the extragalactic background light (EBL). In this paper, we show that the gamma-ray optical depth can be reduced to the convolution product of an EBL kernel with the EBL intensity, assuming a particular form for the EBL evolution. We extract the absorption signal from the most extensive set of TeV spectra from blazars collected so far and unveil a broad-band EBL spectrum from mid-ultraviolet to f…
Progressive increases in the precision of the Hubble-constant measurement via Cepheid-calibrated Type Ia supernovae (SNe Ia) have shown a discrepancy of $\sim 4.4σ$ with the current value inferred from Planck satellite measurements of the cosmic microwave background radiation and the standard $Λ$CDM cosmological model. This disagreement does not appear to be due to known systematic errors and may therefore be hinting at new fundamental physics. Although all of the current techniques have their own merits, further improvement in constraining the Hubble constant requires the development of as ma…
