Supercontinuum generation is a highly nonlinear process that exhibits unstable and chaotic characteristics when developing from long pump pulses injected into the anomalous dispersion regime of an optical fiber. A particular feature associated with this regime is the long-tailed "rogue wave"-like statistics of the spectral intensity on the long wavelength edge of the supercontinuum, linked to the generation of a small number of "rogue solitons" with extreme red-shifts. Here, we apply machine learning to analyze the characteristics of these solitons at the edge of the supercontinuum spectrum, and show how supervised learning can train a neural network to predict the peak power, duration, and temporal delay of these solitons from only the supercontinuum spectral intensity without phase information. The network accurately predicts soliton characteristics for a wide range of scenarios, from the onset of spectral broadening dominated by pure modulation instability to near octave-spanning supercontinuum with distinct rogue solitons.
We present a numerical study of the evolution dynamics of ``optical rogue waves'', statistically-rare extreme red-shifted soliton pulses arising from supercontinuum generation in photonic crystal fiber [D. R. Solli et al. Nature Vol. 450, 1054-1058 (2007)]. Our specific aim is to use nonlinear Schrodinger equation simulations to identify ways in which the rogue wave dynamics can be actively controlled, and we demonstrate that rogue wave generation can be enhanced by an order of magnitude through a small modulation across the input pulse envelope and effectively suppressed through the use of a …
In the numerical modelling of cascaded mid-infrared (IR) supercontinuum generation (SCG) we have studied how an ensemble of spectrally and temporally distributed solitons from the long-wavelength part of an SC evolves and interacts when coupled into the normal dispersion regime of a highly nonlinear chalcogenide fiber. This has revealed a novel fundamental phenomenon - the generation of a temporally and spectrally delocalized high energy rogue wave in the normal dispersion regime in the form of a strongly self-phase-modulation (SPM) broadened pulse. Along the local SPM shape the rogue wave is …
Soliton fusion is a fascinating and delicate phenomenon that manifests itself in optical fibers in case of interaction between co-propagating solitons with small temporal and wavelengths separation. We show that the mechanism of acceleration of trailing soliton by dispersive waves radiated from the preceding one provides necessary conditions for soliton fusion at the advanced stage of supercontinuum generation in photonic crystal fibers. As a result of fusion large intensity robust light structures arise and propagate over significant distances. In presence of small random noise the delicate c…
We present numerical results of supercontinuum (SC) generation in the mid-IR spectral region, specifically addressing the molecular fingerprint window ranging from 2.5 to 25 um. By solving the Generalized Nonlinear Schrödinger Equation (GNLSE) in a chalcogenide waveguide, we demonstrate low-power SC generation beyond 10 um from a pump at 5 um. Further, we investigate the short-pulse and CW regimes, and show that a simple linear dispersion profile, applicable to a broad range of chalcogenide media, is sufficient to account for the broad SC generation, and yield rich pulse dynamics leading to th…
Extremely large, rare events arise in various systems, often representing a defining character of their behavior. Another class of extreme occurrences, unexpected failures, may appear less important, but in applications demanding stringent reliability, the rare absence of an intended effect can be significant. Here, we report the observation of rare gaps in supercontinuum pulse trains, events we term rogue voids. These pulses of unusually small spectral bandwidth follow a reverse-heavy-tailed statistical form. Previous analysis has shown that rogue waves, the opposite extremes in supercontinuu…
We present experimental and numerical data on the supercontinuum generation in an optical fiber pumped in the normal dispersion range where the seeded dark and the spontaneously generated bright solitons contribute to the spectral broadening. We report the dispersive radiation arising from the interaction of the bright and dark solitons. This radiation consists of the two weak dispersing pulses that continuously shift their frequencies and shape the short and long wavelength wings of the supercontinuum spectrum.
We demonstrate that the fission of higher-order N-solitons with a subsequent ejection of fundamental quasi-solitons creates solitonic cavities, formed by a pair of solitons with dispersive light trapped between them. As a result of multiple reflections of the trapped light from the bounding solitons which act as mirrors, they bend their trajectories and collide. In the spectral-domain, the two solitons receive blue and red wavelength shifts, respectively. The spectrum of the bouncing trapped light alters as well. This phenomenon strongly affect spectral characteristics of the generated superco…
A traditional view on solitons in optical fibers as robust particle-like structures suited for informa- tion transmission has been significantly altered and broadened over the past decade, when solitons have been found to play the major role in generation of octave broad supercontinuum spectra in photonic-crystal and other types of optical fibers. This remarkable spectral broadening is achieved through complex processes of dispersive radiation being scattered from, emitted and transformed by solitons. Thus solitons have emerged as the major players in nonlinear frequency conversion in optical …
We study analytically and numerically a kind of diffractive resonant radiation emitted by spatial solitons, which is generated in waveguide arrays with Kerr nonlinearity. The phase matching condition between soliton and radiation is derived and agrees well with direct pulse propagation simulations. The folded dispersion due to the Brillouin zone leads to a peculiar anomalous soliton recoil that we describe in detail. A linear potential applied across the array generates the analogue of the Raman self-frequency shift in optical fibers, only now applied to the wavenumber. We demonstrate that it …
We numerically explore synthetic crystal diamond for realizing novel light sources in ranges which are up to now difficult to achieve with other materials, such as sub-10-fs pulse durations and challenging spectral ranges. We assess the performance of on-chip diamond waveguides for controlling light generation by means of nonlinear soliton dynamics. Tailoring the cross-section of such diamond waveguides allows to design dispersion profiles with custom zero-dispersion points and anomalous dispersion ranges exceeding an octave. Various propagation dynamics, including supercontinuum generation by…
We study numerically and experimentally supercontinuum generation in optical fibers with dark and bright solitons simultaneously contributing into the spectral broadening and dispersive wave generation. We report a novel type of weak trapped radiation arising due to interaction of bright solitons with the dark soliton background. This radiation expresses itself as two pulses with the continuously shifting spectra constituting the short and long wavelength limits of the continuum. Our theoretical and experimental results are in good agreement.
Numerical simulations are used to discuss various aspects of "optical rogue wave" statistics observed in noise-driven fiber supercontinuum generation associated with highly incoherent spectra. In particular, we consider how long wavelength spectral filtering influences the characteristics of the statistical distribution of peak power, and we contrast the statistics of the spectrally filtered SC with the statistics of both the peak power of the most red-shifted soliton in the SC and the maximum peak power across the full temporal field with no spectral selection. For the latter case, we show th…
Based on the soliton solution on a continuous wave background for an integrable Hirota equation, the reduction mechanism and the characteristics of the Peregrine rogue wave in the propagation of femtosecond pulses of optical fiber are discussed. The results show that there exist two processes of the formation of the Peregrine rogue wave: one is the localized process of the continuous wave background, and the other is the reduction process of the periodization of the bright soliton. The characteristics of the Peregrine rogue wave are exhibited by strong temporal and spatial localization. Also, …
We considered the modulational instability of continuous-wave backgrounds, and the related generation and evolution of deterministic rogue waves in the recently introduced parity-time (PT)-symmetric system of linearly-coupled nonlinear Schrödinger equations, which describes a Kerr-nonlinear optical coupler with mutually balanced gain and loss in its cores. Besides the linear coupling, the overlapping cores are coupled through cross-phase-modulation term too. While the rogue waves, built according to the pattern of the Peregrine soliton, are (quite naturally) unstable, we demonstrate that the f…
Rogue waves are solitary waves with extreme amplitudes, which appear to be a ubiquitous phenomenon in nonlinear wave propagation, with the requirement for a nonlinearity being their only unifying characteristics. While many mechanisms have been demonstrated to explain the appearance of rogue waves in a specific system, there is no known generic mechanism or general set of criteria shown to rule their appearance. Presupposing only the existence of a nonlinear Schrödinger-type equation together with a concave dispersion profile around a zero dispersion wavelength we demonstrate that solitons may…
Residual pump peak in fiber-based supercontinuum, as a general phenomenon, limits its practical application. We report a novel supercontinuum generation (SCG) in a conventional highly nonlinear fiber (HNLF) through multiple coherent pump technique, which eliminates the residual pump peak existed in conventional SCG. The multiple coherent pump technique is realized by double bound-state solitons achieved from a homemade modelocked fiber laser. We further compare the SCGs pumped by conventional bound-state soliton and single soliton. It confirms that the effective elimination of the residual pum…
We theoretically study a novel approach for soliton-induced high-power supercontinuum generation by using kagome lattice HC-PCFs filled with a noble gas. Anomalous dispersion and broad-band low loss of these fibers enable the generation of two-octave broad spectra by fs pulses, with high coherence and high spectral peak power densities up to five orders of magnitude larger than in standard PCFs. In addition, up to 20 percents of the output radiation energy forms a narrow UV/VUV band, which can be tuned by contolling the pressure in the range from 350 nm to 120 nm. In the temporal domain this c…
Based on the Peregrine solution (PS) of the nonlinear Schrödinger (NLS) equation, the evolution of rational fraction pulses surrounded by zero background is investigated. These pulses display the behavior of a breather-like solitons. We study the generation and evolution of such solitons extracted, by means of the spectral-filtering method, from the PS in the model of the optical fiber with realistic values of coefficients accounting for the anomalous dispersion, Kerr nonlinearity, and higher-order effects. The results demonstrate that the breathing solitons stably propagate in the fibers. The…
Non-deterministic giant waves, denoted as rogue, killer, monster or freak waves, have been reported in many different branches of physics. Their origin is however still unknown: despite the massive numerical and experimental evidence, the ultimate reason for their spontaneous formation has not been identified yet. Here we show that rogue waves in optical fibres actually result from a complex dynamic process very similar to well known mechanisms such as glass transitions and protein folding. We describe how the interaction among optical solitons produces an energy landscape in a highly-dimensio…
We report on the generation of a three-octave-wide supercontinuum extending from the vacuum ultraviolet (VUV) to the near-infrared, spanning at least 113 to 1000 nm (i.e., 11 to 1.2 eV), in He-filled hollow-core kagome-style photonic crystal fiber. Numerical simulations confirm that the main mechanism is a novel and previously undiscovered interaction between dispersive-wave emission and plasma-induced blueshifted soliton recompression around the fiber zero dispersion frequency. The VUV part of the supercontinuum, which modeling shows to be coherent and possess a simple phase structure, has su…
Ultrafast broadband ultraviolet radiation is of importance in spectroscopy and photochemistry, since high photon energies enable single-photon excitations and ultrashort pulses allow time-resolved studies. Here we report the use of gas-filled hollow-core photonic crystal fibers (HC-PCFs) for efficient ultrafast nonlinear optics in the ultraviolet. Soliton self-compression of 400 nm pulses of (unprecedentedly low) ~500 nJ energies down to sub-6-fs durations is achieved, as well as resonant emission of tunable dispersive waves from these solitons. In addition, we discuss the generation of a flat…
We unveil the relation between the linear Anderson localisation process and nonlinear modulation instability. Anderson localised modes are formed in certain temporal intervals due to the random background noise. Such localised modes seed the formation of solitary waves that will appear during the modulation instability process at those preferred intervals. Afterwards, optical-event horizon effects between dispersive waves and solitons produce an artificial collective acceleration that favours the collision of solitons, which could eventually lead to a rogue-soliton generation.
In this paper we numerically study supercontinuum generation by pumping a silicon nitride waveguide, with two zero-dispersion wavelengths, with femtosecond pulses. The waveguide dispersion is designed so that the pump pulse is in the normal-dispersion regime. We show that because of self-phase modulation, the initial pulse broadens into the anomalous-dispersion regime, which is sandwiched between the two normal-dispersion regimes, and here a soliton is formed. The interaction of the soliton and the broadened pulse in the normal-dispersion regime causes additional spectral broadening through fo…
We experimentally and numerically study dispersive wave emission, soliton fission and supercontinuum generation in a silicon wire at telecommunication wavelengths. Through dispersion engineering, we experimentally confirm a previously reported numerical study [1] and show that the emission of resonant radiation from the solitons can lead to the generation of a supercontinuum spanning over 500 nm. An excellent agreement with numerical simulations is observed.
In this work, we have studied the peregrine rogue wave dynamics, with a solitons on finite background (SFB) ansatz, in the recently proposed (Phys. Rev. Lett. 110 (2013) 064105) continuous nonlinear Schrodinger system with parity-time symmetric Kerr nonlinearity. We have found that the continuous nonlinear Schrodinger system with PT-symmetric nonlinearity also admits Peregrine Soliton solution. Motivated by the fact that Peregrine solitons are regarded as prototypical solutions of rogue waves, we have studied Peregrine rogue wave dynamics in the c-PTNLSE model. Upon numerical computation, we o…
Optical supercontinuum radiation, a special kind of white light, has found numerous applications in scientific research and technology. This bright, broadband radiation can be generated from nearly monochromatic light through the cooperative action of multiple nonlinear effects. Unfortunately, supercontinuum radiation is plagued by large spectral and temporal fluctuations owing to the spontaneous initiation of the generation process. While these fluctuations give rise to fascinating behavior in the form of optical rogue waves [1], they impede many critical applications of supercontinuum. Here,…
We demonstrate a simple cascade mechanism that drives the formation and emergence of rogue waves in the generalized non-linear Schrödinger equation with third-order dispersion. This conceptually novel generation mechanism is based on inelastic collisions of quasi-solitons and is well described by a resonant-like scattering behaviour for the energy transfer in pair-wise quasi-soliton collisions. Our results demonstrate a threshold for rogue wave emergence and the existence of a period of reduced amplitudes - a "calm before the storm" - preceding the arrival of a rogue wave event. Comparing with…
The ability to measure real-time fluctuations of ultrashort pulses propagating in optical fiber has provided significant insights into fundamental dynamical effects such as modulation instability and the formation of frequency-shifting rogue wave solitons. We report here a detailed study of real-time fluctuations across the full bandwidth of a fiber supercontinuum which directly reveals the significant variation in measured noise statistics across the spectrum, and which allows us to study correlations between widely separated spectral components. For two different propagation distances corres…
We study localized nonlinear waves on a plane wave background in the multiple self-induced transparency (SIT) system, which describes an important enhancement of the amplification and control of optical waves compared to the single SIT system. A hierarchy of exact multiparametric rational solutions in a compact determinant representation are presented. We demonstrate that, this family of solutions contains known rogue wave solution and unusual W-shaped soliton solution, which strictly corresponds to the linear stability analysis that involves modulation instability and stability regimes in the…
The use of photonic crystal fibers pumped by femtosecond pulses has enabled the generation of broad optical supercontinua with nano-joule input energies. This striking discovery has applications ranging from spectroscopy and metrology to telecommunication and medicine. Amongst the physical principles underlying supercontinuum generation are soliton fission, a variety of four-wave mixing processes, Raman induced soliton self-frequency shift, and dispersive wave generation mediated by solitons. Although all of the above effects contribute to supercontinuum generation none of them can explain the…
Spatio-temporal dynamics of singly resonant optical parametric oscillators with external seeding displays hexagonal, roll and honeycomb patterns, optical turbulence, rogue waves and cavity solitons. We derive appropriate mean-field equations with a sinc$^2$ nonlinearity and demonstrate that off-resonance seeding is necessary and responsible for the formation of complex spatial structures via self-organization. We compare this model with those derived close to the threshold of signal generation and find that back-conversion of signal and idler photons is responsible for multiple regions of spat…
In the present paper, we are concerned with the general localized solutions for the complex short pulse equation including soliton, breather and rogue wave solutions. With the aid of a generalized Darboux transformation, we construct the $N$-bright soliton solution in a compact determinant form, then the $N$-breather solution including the Akhmediev breather and a general higher order rogue wave solution. The first- and second-order rogue wave solutions are given explicitly and illustrated by graphs. The asymptotic analysis is performed rigorously for both the $N$-soliton and the $N$-breather …
We analytically study rogue-wave (RW) solutions and rational solitons of an integrable fifth-order nonlinear Schrödinger (FONLS) equation with three free parameters. It includes, as particular cases, the usual NLS, Hirota, and Lakshmanan-Porsezian-Daniel (LPD) equations. We present continuous-wave (CW) solutions and conditions for their modulation instability in the framework of this model. Applying the Darboux transformation to the CW input, novel first- and second-order RW solutions of the FONLS equation are analytically found. In particular, trajectories of motion of peaks and depressions o…
Efficient supercontinuum generation (SCG) requires excitation of solitons at the pump laser wavelength. Quadratic nonlinear waveguides may support an effective self-defocusing nonlinearity so solitons can directly be generated at common ultrafast laser wavelengths without any waveguide dispersion engineering. We here experimentally demonstrate efficient SCG in a standard lithium niobate (LN) waveguide without using quasi-phase matching (QPM). By using femtosecond pumps with wavelengths in the $1.25-1.5 μ\rm m$ range, where LN has normal dispersion and thus supports self-defocusing solitons, oc…
Ultrafast supercontinuum generation in gas-filled waveguides is one enabling technology for many intriguing application ranging from attosecond metrology towards biophotonics, with the amount of spectral broadening crucially depending on the pulse dispersion of the propagating mode. Here we show that the structural resonances in gas-filled anti-resonant hollow core optical fiber provide an additional degree of freedom in dispersion engineering, allowing for the generation of more than three octaves of broadband light ranging deep UV wavelength towards the near infrared. Our observation relies o…
We study the suppression of noise degradation in high-power soliton-induced supercontinuum generation under the influence of plasma contributions in metallic dielectric-coated hollow waveguides. The high coherence of the supercontinuum is related to the coherent seed components formed by the abruptly rising plasma density. We predict the generation of highly coherent supercontinua with two-octave broad spectra and spectral power densities in the range ofMW/nm in such waveguides.
Dissipative solitons formed in Kerr microresonators may enable chip-scale frequency combs for precision optical metrology. Here we explore the creation of an octave-spanning, 15-GHz repetition-rate microcomb suitable for both f-2f self-referencing and optical-frequency comparisons across the near infrared. This is achieved through a simple and reliable approach to deterministically generate, and subsequently frequency stabilize, soliton pulse trains in a silica-disk resonator. Efficient silicon-nitride waveguides provide a supercontinuum spanning 700 to 2100 nm, enabling both offset-frequency …
In this Letter we theoretically study a novel approach for soliton-induced supercontinuum generation based on the application of metallic dielectric-coated hollow waveguides. Low loss of such waveguides permits the use of smaller diameters with enhanced dispersion control and enables the generation of two-octave-broad spectra with unprecedentedly high spectral peak power densities up to five orders of magnitude larger than in standard PCFs with high coherence. We also predict that high-power supercontinua in the vacuum ultraviolet can be generated in such waveguides.

We study artificial neural networks with nonlinear waves as a computing reservoir. We discuss universality and the conditions to learn a dataset in terms of output channels and nonlinearity. A feed-forward three-layer model, with an encoding input layer, a wave layer, and a decoding readout, behaves as a conventional neural network in approximating mathematical functions, real-world datasets, and universal Boolean gates. The rank of the transmission matrix has a fundamental role in assessing the learning abilities of the wave. For a given set of training points, a threshold nonlinearity for un…
In this work, based on the recently proposed (Phys. Rev. Lett. 110 (2013) 064105) continuous nonlocal nonlinear Schrödinger system with parity-time symmetric Kerr nonlinearity (PTNLSE), a numerical investigation has been carried out for two first order Peregrine solitons as the initial ansatz. Peregrine soliton, as an exact solution to the PTNLSE, evokes a very potent question: what effects does the interaction of two first order Peregrine solitons have on the overall optical field dynamics. Upon numerical computation, we observe the appearance of Kuznetsov-Ma (KM) soliton trains in the unbrok…
Bright and broadband coherent mid-IR radiation is important for exciting and probing molecular vibrations. Using cascaded nonlinearities in conventional quadratic nonlinear crystal like lithium niobate, self-defocusing near-IR solitons have been demonstrated that led to very broadband supercontinuum generation in the visible, near-IR and short-wavelength mid-IR. Here we conduct an experiment where a mid-IR crystal pumped in the mid-IR gives multiple-octave spanning supercontinua. The crystal is cut for noncritical interaction, so the three-wave mixing of a single mid-IR femtosecond pump source…
We show that a temporal soliton can induce resonant radiation by three-wave mixing nonlinearities. This constitutes a new class of resonant radiation whose spectral positions are parametrically tunable. The experimental verification is done in a periodically poled lithium niobate crystal, where a femtosecond near-IR soliton is excited and resonant radiation waves are observed exactly at the calculated soliton phase-matching wavelengths via the sum- and difference-frequency generation nonlinearities. This extends the supercontinuum bandwidth well into the mid-IR to span 550-5000 nm and the mid-…

We numerically demonstrate the formation of the spatiotemporal version of the so-called diffractive resonant radiation generated in waveguide arrays with Kerr nonlinearity when a long pulse is launched into the system. The phase matching condition for the diffractive resonant radiation that we have found earlier for CW beams also works well in the spatiotemporal case. By introducing a linear potential, one can introduce a continuous shift of the central wavenumber of a linear pulse, whereas in the nonlinear case one can demonstrate that the soliton self-wavenumber shift can be compensated by t…
Dramatic advances in supercontinuum generation have been made recently using photonic crystal fibers, but it is quite challenging to obtain an octave-spanning supercontinuum on a chip, partially because of strong dispersion in high-index-contrast nonlinear integrated waveguides. We show by simulation that extremely flat and low dispersion can be achieved in silicon nitride slot waveguides over a wavelength band of 500 nm. Different from previously reported supercontinua that were generated either by higher-order soliton fission in anomalous dispersion regime or by self phase modulation in norm…
Hydrogenated amorphous silicon (a:Si-H) has recently been recognized as a highly nonlinear CMOS compatible photonic platform. We experimentally demonstrate the generation of a supercontinuum (SC) spanning over 500 nm in a-Si:H photonic wire waveguide at telecommunication wavelengths using femtosecond input pulse with energy lower than 5 pJ. Numerical modeling of pulse propagation in the waveguide, based on the experimentally characterized dispersion profile, shows that the supercontinuum is the result of soliton fission and dispersive wave generation. It is demonstrated that the SC is highly c…
Supercontinuum (SC) generation based on ultrashort pulse compression constitutes one of the most promising technologies towards an ultra-wide bandwidth, high-brightness and spatially coherent light sources for applications such as spectroscopy and microscopy. Here, multi-octave SC generation in a gas-filled hollow-core antiresonant fiber (HC-ARF) is reported spanning from 200 nm in the deep ultraviolet (DUV) to 4000 nm in the mid-infrared (mid-IR). A measured average output power of 5 mW was obtained by pumping at the center wavelength of the first anti-resonance transmission window (2460 nm) …
Continuous-wave laser driven Kerr-nonlinear, optical microresonators have enabled a variety of novel applications and phenomena including the generation of optical frequency combs, ultra-low noise microwaves, as well as, ultra-short optical pulses. In this work we break with the paradigm of the continuous-wave optical drive and use instead periodic, pico-second optical pulses. We observe the deterministic generation of stable femtosecond dissipative cavity solitons on-top of the resonantly enhanced driving pulse. Surprisingly, the soliton pulse locks to the driving pulse enabling direct all-op…

Spontaneous emergence of self-organized patterns and their bifurcations towards a regime of complex dynamics in non-equilibrium dissipative systems is a paradigm of phase transition. Indeed, the behavior of these patterns in the highly nonlinear regime remains less explored, even in recent high-quality-factor resonators such as Kerr-nonlinear optical ones. Here, we investigate theoretically and experimentally the alteration of the resulting Kerr frequency combs from the weakly to the highly nonlinear regime, in the frameworks of spatiotemporal chaos, and dissipative phase transitions. We revea…
On-chip ultraviolet to infrared (UV-IR) spectrum frequency metrology is of crucial importance as a characterization tool for fundamental studies on quantum physics, chemistry, and biology. Due to the strong material dispersion, traditional techniques fail to demonstrate the device that can be applied to generate coherent broadband spectrum that covers the full UV-IR wavelengths. In this work, we explore several novel techniques for supercontinuum generation covering near-UV to near-IR spectrum using AlN micro-photonic waveguides, which is essential for frequency metrology applications: First, …
We report generation of a femtosecond supercontinuum extending from the ultraviolet to the near-infrared and detection of its carrier-envelope phase variation by f-to-2f interferometry. The spectrum is generated in a gas-filled hollow-core photonic crystal fiber where soliton dynamics allows CEP-stable self-compression of OPCPA pump pulses at 800 nm to a duration of 1.7 optical cycles, followed by dispersive wave emission. The source provides up to 1 μJ of pulse energy at 800 kHz repetition rate resulting in 0.8 W of average power, and can be extremely useful for example in strong-field physic…
A pure silica photonic crystal fiber with a group velocity dispersion ($β_2$) of 4 ps$^2$/km at 1.55 $μ$m and less than 7 ps$^2$/km from 1.32 $μ$m to the zero dispersion wavelength (ZDW) 1.80 $μ$m was designed and fabricated. The dispersion of the fiber was measured experimentally and found to agree with the fiber design, which also provides low loss below 1.83 $μ$m due to eight outer rings with increased hole diameter. The fiber was pumped with a 1.55 $μ$m, 125 fs laser and, at the maximum in-coupled peak power (P$_0$) of 9 kW, a 1.34$-$1.82 $μ$m low-noise spectrum with a relative intensity n…
