Measuring the spectral properties of an optical frequency comb is among the most fundamental tasks of precision metrology. In contrast to general single-parameter measurement schemes, we demonstrate here single shot multiparameter estimation at and beyond the standard quantum limit. The mean energy and the central frequency of ultrafast pulses are simultaneously determined with a multi-pixel-spectrally-resolved (MPSR) apparatus, without changing the photonics architecture. Moreover, using a quantum frequency comb that consists of multiple squeezed states in a family of Hermite-Gaussian spectral/temporal modes, the signal-to-noise ratios of the mean energy and the central frequency measurements surpass the shot-noise limit by around 19% and 15%, respectively. Combining our multi-pixel detection scheme and the intrinsic multimode quantum resource could find applications in ultrafast quantum metrology and multimode quantum information processing.
We report on the controllable response of the lasing frequency to the cavity round-trip path change. This is achieved by modifying the dispersion of the intracavity medium in the four-wave mixing regime in Rb. We can either increase the response by at least a factor of $2.7$ or drastically reduce it. The former regime is useful for sensitive measurements tracking the cavity round trip length and the latter regime is useful for precision metrology.
We study the output entanglement in a three-mode optomechanical system via reservoir engineering by shifting the center frequency of filter function away from resonant frequency. We find the bandwidth of the filter function can suppress the entanglement in the vicinity of resonant frequency of the system, while the entanglement will become prosperous if the center frequency departs from the resonant frequency. We obtain the approximate analytical expressions of the output entanglement, and from which we give the optimal center frequency at which the entanglement takes the maximum. Furthermore,…
We report the demonstration of a magnetometer with noise-floor reduction below the shot-noise level. This magnetometer, based on a nonlinear magneto-optical rotation effect, is enhanced by the injection of a squeezed vacuum state into its input. The noise spectrum shows squeezed noise reduction of about 2 dB spanning from close to 100 Hz to several megahertz. We also report on the observation of two different regimes of operation of such a magnetometer: one in which the detection noise is limited by the quantum noise of the light probe only, and one in which we see additional noise originating…
The statistical properties of a radiation sources are commonly characterized by second-order-correlation or Mandel parameter. Our research found that the single photons modulation spectrum provides us another optional way which is more sensitive to the high frequency information contained in the photon sequence. In this paper, we present direct laser communication by using a multi-channel frequency coding scheme based on the single photons modulation spectrum in which the multi-frequency modulation makes the transmission capacity efficiently enhanced. The modulation frequencies could be operat…
Quantum-enhanced, idler-free sensing protocol to measure the response of a target object to the frequency of a probe in a noisy and lossy scenario is proposed. In this protocol, a target with frequency-dependent reflectivity embedded in a thermal bath is considered. The aim is to estimate the parameter $λ= η(ω_2)-η(ω_1)$, since it contains relevant information for different problems. For this, a bi-frequency quantum state is employed as the resource, since it is necessary to capture the relevant information about the parameter. Computing the quantum Fisher information $H$ relative to the param…
We demonstrate the generation of multi-photon quantum states of light by cavity-enhanced parametric down-conversion in the high-repetition-rate pulsed regime. An external enhancement cavity resonant with the spectral comb of modes of a mode-locked pump laser provides a coherent build-up of the pump intensity and greatly enhances the parametric gain without sacrificing its high repetition rate and comb structure. We probe the parametric gain enhancement by the conditional generation and tomographic analysis of two-photon Fock states. Besides its potential impact to efficiently generate highly-n…
Electron-positron pair production in frequency modulated Sauter potential wells is investigated in the framework of the computational quantum field theory. In combined potential wells with a static Sauter potential well and a frequency modulated oscillating one, the modulated amplitude has a large effect on the number of created pairs. The optimal modulation amplitude of frequency at different center frequencies is obtained, which increases the number of electrons at about two times. However, for a single oscillating potential well with frequency modulation, chirp effect is sensitive to the ce…
We propose a quantum metrology protocol for measuring frequencies and weak forces based on a periodic modulating quantum Jahn-Teller system composed of a single spin interacting with two bosonic modes. We show that in the first order of the frequency drive the time-independent effective Hamiltonian describes spin-dependent interaction between the two bosonic modes. In the limit of high-frequency drive and low bosonic frequency the quantum Jahn-Teller system exhibits critical behaviour which can be used for high-precision quantum estimation. A major advantage of our scheme is the robustness of …
We propose a quantum-enhanced lidar system to estimate a target's radial velocity which employs squeezed and frequency entangled signal and idler beams. We compare its performance against a classical protocol using a coherent state with the same pulse duration and energy, showing that quantum resources provide a precision enhancement in the estimation of the velocity of the object. We identify three distinct parameter regimes characterized by the amount of squeezing and frequency entanglement. In two of them, a quantum advantage exceeding the standard quantum limit is achieved assuming no phot…
We present an integrated design to precisely measure optical frequency using weak value amplification with a multi-mode interferometer. The technique involves introducing a weak perturbation to the system and then post-selecting the data in such a way that the signal is amplified without amplifying the technical noise, as has previously been demonstrated in a free-space setup. We demonstrate the advantages of a Bragg grating with two band gaps for obtaining simultaneous, stable high transmission and high dispersion. We numerically model the interferometer in order to demonstrate the amplificat…
We propose a quantum mechanical method of constraining non-Newtonian gravity at the nanometer range. In this method, a hybrid electro-optomechanical system is employed. Applying a strong driving field, we can obtain normal mode splitting of the electromechanical subsystem which is related to the resonance frequency of the mechanical oscillator. Moreover, we investigate the relationship between the variance of normal mode splitting and the resonance frequency shift induced by the gradient of exotic forces provided that our system is operated at critical points. Furthermore, via suppressing the …
Atomic spectroscopy, an essential tool for frequency estimation, is widely used in quantum sensing. Atom-atom interaction can be used to generate entanglement for achieving quantum enhanced sensing. However, atom-atom interaction always induces collision shift, which brings systematic error in determining the resonance frequency. Contradiction between utilizing atom-atom interaction and suppressing collision shift generally exists in atomic spectroscopy. Here, we propose an antisymmetric Rabi spectroscopy protocol without collision shift in the presence of atom-atom interactions. We analytical…
Chirped dynamically assisted pair production in spatial inhomogeneous electric fields is studied by the Dirac-Heisenberg-Wigner formalism. The effects of the chirp parameter on the reduced momentum spectrum, the reduced total yield of the created pairs for either low or high frequency one-color field and two-color dynamically assisted combinational fields are investigated in detail. Also, the enhancement factor is obtained in the later two-color field case. It is found that for the low frequency field, no matter whether it is accompanied by the other high frequency field, its chirping has a li…
Absorption spectroscopy is a widely used technique that permits the detection and characterization of gas species at low concentrations. We propose a sensing strategy combining the advantages of frequency modulation spectroscopy with the reduced noise properties accessible by squeezing the probe state. A homodyne detection scheme allows the simultaneous measurement of the absorption at multiple frequencies and is robust against dispersion across the absorption profile. We predict a significant enhancement of the signal-to-noise ratio that scales exponentially with the squeezing factor. An orde…
A coherent coupling among different energy photons provided by nonlinear optical interaction is regarded as a photonic version of the Rabi oscillation. Cavity enhancement of the nonlinearity reduces energy requirement significantly and pushes the scalability of the frequency-encoded photonic circuit based on the photonic Rabi oscillation. However, confinement of the photons in the cavity severely limits the number of interactable frequency modes. Here we demonstrate a wide-bandwidth and efficient photonic Rabi oscillation achieving full-cycle oscillation based on a cavity-enhanced nonlinear op…
We experimentally study a protocol of using the broadband high frequency squeezed vacuum to detect the low-frequency signal. In this scheme, the lower sideband field of the squeezed light carries the low frequency modulation signal and the two strong coherent light fields are applied as the bichromatic local oscillator in the homodyne detection to measure the quantum entanglement of the upper and lower sideband for the broadband squeezed light. The power of one of the local oscillators for detecting the upper sideband can be adjusted to optimize the conditional squeezing in the low frequency r…

Quantum systems that undergo quantum phase transitions exhibit divergent susceptibility and can be exploited as probes to estimate physical parameters. We generalize the dynamic framework for criticality-enhanced quantum sensing by the quantum Rabi model (QRM) to its anisotropic counterpart and derive the correspondingly analytical expressions for the quantum Fisher information (QFI). We find that the contributions of the rotating-wave and counterrotating-wave interaction terms are symmetric at the limit of the infinite ratio of qubit frequency to field frequency, with the QFI reaching a maxim…
The coherent interaction of Rydberg helium atoms with microwave fields in a $λ/4$ superconducting coplanar waveguide resonator has been exploited to probe the spectral characteristics of an individual resonator mode. This was achieved by preparing the atoms in the 1s55s$^3$S$_1$ Rydberg level by resonance enhanced two-color two-photon excitation from the metastable 1s2s$^3$S$_1$ level. The atoms then travelled over the resonator in which the third harmonic microwave field, at a frequency of $ω_{\mathrm{res}}=2π\times19.556$ GHz, drove the two-photon 1s55s$^3$S$_1\rightarrow$1s56s$^3$S$_1$ tran…
Dynamic Nuclear Polarization (DNP) has enabled enormous gains in magnetic resonance signals and led to vastly accelerated NMR/MRI imaging and spectroscopy. Unlike conventional cw-techniques, DNP methods that exploit the full electron spectrum are appealing since they allow direct participation of all electrons in the hyperpolarization process. Such methods typically entail sweeps of microwave radiation over the broad electron linewidth to excite DNP, but are often inefficient because the sweeps, constrained by adiabaticity requirements, are slow. In this paper we develop a technique to overcom…
