The knowledge of the parameters of the solar neutrino oscillation model, provided by the SNO and Super-Kamiokande collaborations, enables us to obtain, with the Wolfenstein equation, a simple and clear analytical and numerical picture of the transformation of the neutrino state during its travel inside the Sun. We show that the resulting picture is not implicated in the characteristics of the neutrino state at the surface of the Sun and at the surface of the Earth. This circumstance with taking into account the volume distribution of solar neutrino sources indicates an obvious contradiction between the consequences of the MSW mechanism with parameters from SNO and Super-Kamiokande and the results of three of the five observed processes with solar neutrinos. Erroneous assertions at the base of the MSW mechanism are noted.
We study the ability of the Hyper-Kamiokande (HyperK) experiment, currently under construction, to constrain a neutrino signal produced via the annihilation of dark matter captured in the Sun. We simulate upward stopping and upward through-going muon events at HyperK, using Super-Kamiokande (SuperK) atmospheric neutrino results for validation, together with fully and partially contained events. Considering the annihilation of dark matter to various standard model final states, we determined the HyperK sensitivity to the dark matter spin-dependent scattering cross-section. We find that HyperK w…
We discuss constraints on the coefficient A_{MSW} which is introduced to simulate the effect of weaker or stronger matter potential for electron neutrinos with the current and future solar neutrino data. The currently available solar neutrino data leads to a bound A_{MSW} = 1.47^{-0.42}_{+0.54} (^{-0.82}_{+1.88}) at 1σ(3σ) CL, which is consistent with the Standard Model prediction A_{MSW} = 1. For weaker matter potential (A_{MSW} < 1), the constraint which comes from the flat ^8B neutrino spectrum is already very tight, indicating the evidence for matter effects. Whereas for stronger matter po…
This work presents indirect searches for dark matter (DM) as WIMPs (Weakly Interacting Massive Particles) using neutrino data recorded by the Super-Kamiokande detector from 1996 to 2014. The results of the search for WIMP-induced neutrinos from the Sun and the Milky Way are discussed. We looked for an excess of neutrinos from the Sun/Milky Way direction compared to the expected atmospheric neutrino background. Event samples including both electron and muon neutrinos covering a wide range of neutrino energies (GeV to TeV) were used, with sensitivity to WIMP masses down to tens of GeV. Various W…
Flavor transition mechanisms of supernova (SN) neutrinos during their propagation deserve a close scrutiny. We present a method to verify Mikheyev-Smirnov-Wolfenstein (MSW) effect during the propagation of SN neutrinos from the SN core to the Earth. The non-MSW scenarios to be distinguished from the MSW one are the incoherent flavor transition probability for neutrino propagation in the vacuum and the flavor equalization induced by fast flavor conversions. Our approach involves studying the time evolution of neutrino event rates in liquid argon, liquid scintillation, and water Cherenkov detect…
Three-Neutrino Mixing and Combined Vacuum Oscillations and MSW Transitions of Solar Neutrinos
Assuming three flavour neutrino mixing takes place in vacuum, we investigate the possibility that the solar nu_e take part in MSW transitions in the Sun due to Delta m^2_{31} from 10^{-7} eV^2 to 10^{-4} eV^2, followed by long wave length vacuum oscillations on the way to the Earth, triggered by Delta m^2_{21} (or Delta m^2_{32}) from 10^{-12} eV^2 to 10^{-10} eV^2, Delta m^2_{31} and Delta m^2_{21} (Delta m^2_{32}) being the corresponding neutrino mass squared differences. The solar nu_e survival probability is shown to be described in this case by a simple analytic expression. Depending on w…
Recent results from a 282 kiloton-year exposure of the Super-Kamiokande detector to atmospheric neutrinos are presented. The data when fit both by themselves and in conjunction with constraints from the T2K and reactor neutrino experiments show a weak, though insignificant, preference for the normal mass hierarchy at the level of ~1 sigma. Searches for evidence of oscillations into a sterile neutrino have resulted in limits on the parameters governing their mixing, |U_mu4}|^2 <0.041 and |U_tau4|^2 < 0.18 at 90% C.L. A similar search for an indication of Lorentz-invariance violating oscillation…
Measuring the CP-violating phase by a long base-line neutrino experiment with Hyper-Kamiokande
We study the sensitivity of a long-base-line (LBL) experiment with neutrino beams from the High Intensity Proton Accelerator (HIPA), that delivers 10^{21} POT per year, and a proposed 1Mt water-Cherenkov detector, Hyper-Kamiokande (HK) 295km away from the HIPA, to the CP phase ( delta_{M N S} ) of the three-flavor lepton mixing matrix. We examine a combination of the nu_mu narrow-band beam (NBB) at two different energies, vev{p_pi}=2, 3GeV, and the bar{nu}_mu NBB at vev{p_pi}=2GeV. By allocating one year each for the two nu_mu beams and four years for the bar{nu}_mu beam, we can efficiently me…
Super-Kamiokande (SK) can search for weakly interacting massive particles (WIMPs) by detecting neutrinos produced from WIMP annihilations occurring inside the Sun. In this analysis, we include neutrino events with interaction vertices in the detector in addition to upward-going muons produced in the surrounding rock. Compared to the previous result, which used the upward-going muons only, the signal acceptances for light (few-GeV/$c^2$ $\sim$ 200-GeV/$c^2$) WIMPs are significantly increased. We fit 3903 days of SK data to search for the contribution of neutrinos from WIMP annihilation in the S…
The electronic density in the Sun's inner core is inferred from the 8B, 7Be and pep neutrino flux measurements of the Super-Kamiokande, SNO and Borexino experiments. We have developed a new method in which we use the KamLAND detector determinations of the neutrino fundamental oscillation parameters: the mass difference and the vacuum oscillation angle. Our results suggest that the solar electronic density in the Sun's inner core (for a radius smaller than 10% of the solar radius) is well above the current prediction of the standard solar model, and by as much as 25%. A potential confirmation o…
