The interaction of Nucleon-Nucleon (NN) has certain physical characteristics, which indicated by nucleon, and meson degrees of freedom. The main purpose of this work is calculating the ground state energies of 21 Deutron and Alfa through the two-body system with the exchange of mesons (Pi, segma, omega) that mediated between two nucleons. This paper investigates NN interaction based on the quasi-relativistic decoupled Dirac equation and self-consistent Hartree-Fock formulation. We construct one-boson exchange potential (OBEP) model, where each nucleon is treated as a Dirac particle and acts as a source of pseudoscalar, scalar, and vector fields. The potential in the present work is analytically derived with two static functions of meson, the single particle energy dependent(SPED) and generalized Yukawa (GY) functions, the parameters used in meson functions are just published ones (mass, coupling constant, and cut o? parameters). The theoretical results are compared to other theoretical models and their corresponding experimental data, one can see that the SPED function gives more satisfied agreement than the GY function in case of the considered nuclei.
Mesonic and nucleon fluctuation effects are investigated in medium. We couple the nucleon field to the $2+1$ flavor meson model and investigate the finite temperature and density behavior of the system, in particular, the axial anomaly function. Somewhat contrary to earlier expectations we find that it tends to strengthen at finite density. At lower temperatures nucleon density fluctuations can cause a relative difference in the $U_A(1)$ axial anomaly of about $20\%$. This has important consequences on the mesonic spectra, especially on the $η-η'$ system, as we observe no drop in the $η'$ mass…
Owing to the Kubo relation, the shear viscosities of pionic and nucleonic components have been evaluated from their corresponding retarded correlators of viscous stress tensor in the static limit, which become non-divergent only for the non-zero thermal widths of the constituent particles. In the real-time thermal field theory, the pion and nucleon thermal widths have respectively been obtained from the pion self-energy for different meson, baryon loops and the nucleon self-energy for different pion-baryon loops. We have found a non-monotonic momentum distributions of pion and nucleon thermal …
Studies of the QCD phase diagram must properly include nucleonic degrees of freedom and their thermodynamics in the range of baryon chemical potentials characteristic of nuclear matter. A useful framework for incorporating relevant nuclear physics constraints in this context is a chiral nucleon-meson effective Lagrangian. In the present paper, such a chiral nucleon-meson model is extended with systematic inclusion of mesonic fluctuations using the functional renormalization group approach. The resulting description of the nuclear liquid-gas phase transition shows a remarkable agreement with th…
Electromagnetic current-current correlators in pionic and nucleonic medium have been evaluated in the static limit to obtain electrical conductivities for pion and nucleon components respectively, where former decreases and latter one increases with the variation of temperature $T$ and baryon chemical potential $μ_N$. Therefore, total electrical conductivity of pion and nucleon system exhibits a valley structure in the $T$-$μ_N$ plane. To get non-divergent and finite values of correlators, finite thermal widths of medium constituents, pion and nucleon have been considered, where these thermal …
The impact of Hartree-Fock correlations on the nuclear momentum distribution is studied in a fully relativistic one boson exchange model. Hartree-Fock equations are exactly solved to first order in the coupling constants. The renormalization of the Dirac spinors in the medium is shown to affect the momentum distribution, as opposed to what happens in the non-relativistic case. The unitarity of the model is shown to be preserved by the present renormalization procedure.
Starting from a covariant relativistic formalism which uses nucleon and pion propagators in a nuclear medium, we revise the traditional effects of Fermi motion, binding and mesonic corrections to the EMC effect. The calculations are done in a very accurate way, using precise nucleon spectral functions and meson self-energies and a good reproduction of the EMC data is obtained outside the shadowing region which is not explored.
The chiral quark model posits pseudoscalar and vector meson couplings to constituent quarks. The parity violating meson-quark couplings lead to anapole moments and form factors of the nucleons. These arise both as parity violating meson loop fluctuations as well as exchange currents and polarization currents that are induced by the parity violating interaction between quarks. Because of cancellations between the different contributions the magnitude of the calculated anapole moments is only of the order $\sim 10^{-8}$ and is determined mainly by magnitude of the parity-violating meson-nucleon …
We have evaluated the Drell-Yan cross section in nuclei paying special attention to the meson cloud contribution from pion and rho-meson, for which an accurate calculation using the meson nuclear spectral functions is used. Similarly, the nucleonic contribution is evaluated in terms of a relativistic nucleon spectral function. Fair agreement with experiment is found for different nuclei and the results show a sizeable contribution from the renormalized meson cloud. In order to reproduce the experiment a novel element is introduced, consisting of a gradual energy loss of the incoming proton in …
The off-mass-shell behavior of the nucleon structure function, $F_2^N$, is studied within an approach motivated by the Sullivan model. Deep inelastic scattering on the nucleon is considered in the second order in the pion-nucleon coupling constant, corresponding to the dressing of the bare nucleons by the mesonic cloud. The inclusive and semi-inclusive deep inelastic processes on the deuteron involving off-shell nucleons are considered. A deformation of the mesonic cloud for the off-mass-shell nucleon, compared to the free one, generates observable effects in deep inelastic scattering. In part…
We revise the conventional nuclear effects of Fermi motion, binding and pionic effects in deep inelastic lepton scattering using a relativistic formalism for an interacting Fermi sea and the local density approximation to translate results from nuclear matter to finite nuclei. In addition we also consider effects from rho-meson renormalization in the nucleus. The use of nucleon Green's functions in terms of their spectral functions offers a precise way to account for Fermi motion and binding. On the other hand the use of many body Feynman diagrams in a relativistic framework allows one to avoi…
Hadron properties are studied at hot medium using the quark sigma model. The quark sigma model is extended to include eighth-order of mesonic interactions based on some aspects of quantum chromodynamic (QCD) theory. The extended effective potential tends to the original effective potential when the coupling between the higher order mesonic interactions equal to zero. The field equations have been solved in the mean-field approximation by using the extended iteration method. We found that the nucleon mass increases with increasing temperature and the magnetic moments of proton and neutron incre…
We study the interactions of the pseudoscalar glueball with scalar and pseudoscalar quark-antiquark meson fields and with the nucleon and its chiral partner. In both cases we introduce the corresponding chiral Lagrangian and discuss its properties. We calculate the mesonic and baryonic decays of a pseudoscalar glueball with mass of about 2.6 GeV as predicted by Lattice simulations.
We investigate meson and nucleon dynamics at finite baryon density and temperature by coupling the nucleon field and the omega meson to the three-flavor linear sigma model and calculate hadronic properties around the nuclear liquid-gas transition. We apply the functional renormalization group method, and find that mesonic fluctuations increase the strength of the coefficient of the $U_A(1)$ breaking determinant operator as a function of the chiral condensate. As a consequence, we find that the actual value of the anomaly increases discontinuously at the first order nuclear liquid-gas transitio…
Using the LAMP model for nuclear quark structure, we calculate the binding energy and quark structure of a $B$ meson merging with a $D$ meson. The larger-than-nucleon masses of the two heavy quarks allow for a more reliable application of the Born-Oppenheimer-like approximation of the LAMP. With the absence of quark-level Pauli Exclusion Principle repulsive effects, the appearance of a bound state is unsurprising. Our variational calculation shows that the molecular, deuteron-like state structure changes rather abruptly, as the separation between the two mesons decreases, at a separation of ab…
The strange-quark vector current $ρ$-to-$π$ meson transition form factor is computed at one-loop order using strange meson intermediate states. A comparison is made with a $ϕ$-meson dominance model estimate. We find that one-loop contributions are comparable in magnitude to those predicted by $ϕ$-meson dominance. It is possible that the one-loop contribution can make the matrix element as large as those of the electromagnetic current mediating vector meson radiative decays. However, due to the quadratic dependence of the one-loop results on the hadronic form factor cut-off mass, a large uncert…
Given the phenomenological success of the Nambu-Jona-Lasinio model in describing the meson physics in the low energy limit, it is tempting to find the fully relativistically structured nucleon solution in the same model under the similar approximation employed in the mesonic sector. To achieve this goal we need to solve a relativistic Faddeev equation. The factorizability of the two-body T-matrix reduces the three-body Faddeev equation to a tractable two-body Bethe-Salpeter equation. The reduced equation is then solved numerically. Our result indicates that the nucleon consists of three loosel…
It has been shown that the string-flip potential model reproduces most of the bulk properties of nuclear matter, with the exception of nuclear binding. Furthermore, it was postulated that this model with the inclusion of the colour-hyperfine interaction should produce binding. In some recent work a modified version of the string-flip potential model was developed, called the flux-bubble model, which would allow for the addition of perturbative QCD interactions. In attempts to construct a simple $q\bar q$ nucleon system using the flux-bubble model (which only included colour-Coulomb interaction…
We consider the spin-isospin-independent central part of the residual nucleon-nucleon potential in finite spherical nuclei taking into account the deformation effects of the nucleons within the surrounding nuclear environment. It is shown that inside the nucleus the short-range repulsive contribution of the potential is increased and the intermediate attraction is decreased. We identify the growth of the radial component of the spin-isospin independent short-range part of the in-medium nucleon-nucleon interaction as the responsible agent that prevents the radial collapse of the nucleus.
The $η$-meson production in photon- and hadron-induced reactions, namely, $γp \to p η$, $π^- p \to n η$, $pp \to ppη$, and $pn \to pnη$, are investigated in a combined analysis in order to learn about the relevant production mechanisms and the possible role of nucleon resonances in these reactions. We consider the nucleonic, mesonic, and nucleon resonance currents constructed within an effective Lagrangian approach and compare the results with the available data for cross sections and spin asymmetries for these reactions. We found that the reaction $γp \to p η$ could be described well with the…
Effective interactions, when defined in a coarse grained sense, such as Vlowk at the scale 450 MeV, display a remarkable symmetry pattern. Serber symmetry works with high accuracy for spin triplet states. Wigner SU(4) spin-isospin symmetry with nucleons in the fundamental representation works only for even partial waves exactly as predicted by large Nc limit of QCD with accuracy O(1/Nc^2). This suggests tailoring the very definition of effective interactions to provide a best possible fulfillment of long distance symmetries. With the Vlowk definition Wigner symmetry requires that chiral potent…
I outline an ambitious program which aims to achieve a unified description of nucleon and nuclear properties based on one chiral effective field theory.
We study the effects of the | qqq q\bar{q} > component of the hadronic wave function on the description of the electromagnetic structure of the nucleon. Starting with a qqq baryonic wave function which describes the baryonic and mesonic low energy spectrum, the extra q\bar{q} pair is generated through a relativistic version of the 3P_0 model. It is shown that this model leads to a renormalization of the quark mass that allows one to construct a conserved electromagnetic current. We conclude that these dynamical relativistic corrections play an important role in reproducing the Q2 dependence of…
In this talk we discuss the formation of exotic hadrons with hidden charm arising from three-body interactions. To be more specific, in the strangeness sector, we predict the existence of a mesonic state, $K^*(4307)$, which is dynamically generated from the three-body interactions of the $KD\bar{D}^*$ system, has mass around $4307$ MeV and quantum numbers $I(J^P) = 1/2\,(1^-)$. In the baryonic sector, we predict the existence of $N^*$ states, which are generated from the three-body interactions of the $ND\bar{D}^*$ system, with masses around $4400\sim 4600$ MeV, widths of $2\sim 20$ MeV and po…
A partial screening of nucleon electric dipole moments (EDMs) in nuclear systems, which is related to the Schiff mechanism known for neutral atomic systems, is discussed. It is shown that the direct contribution from the neutron EDM to the deuteron EDM is partially screened by about 1% in a zero-range approximation calculation.
The quark-meson coupling model, based on a mean field description of non-overlapping nucleon bags bound by the self-consistent exchange of $σ$, $ω$ and $ρ$ mesons, is extended to investigate the properties of finite nuclei. Using the Born-Oppenheimer approximation to describe the interacting quark-meson system, we derive the effective equation of motion for the nucleon, as well as the self-consistent equations for the meson mean fields. The model is first applied to nuclear matter, after which we show some initial results for finite nuclei.
A chapter to be included in "The DA$\mitΦ$NE Physics Handbook" by the DA$Φ$NE Theory Working Group, this paper covers the phenomenology of low--energy $K N$ physics, with particular emphasis on the problems still to be solved by a careful experimental investigation and on the theoretical tools to analyse it.
The Bloom-Gilman local duality of the inelastic structure function of the proton, the deuteron and light complex nuclei is investigated using available experimental data in the squared four-momentum transfer range from 0.3 to 5 (GeV/c)**2. The results of our analysis suggest that the onset of the Bloom-Gilman local duality is anticipated in complex nuclei with respect to the case of the protonand the deuteron. A possible interpretation of this result in terms of a rescaling effect is discussed with particular emphasis to the possibility of reproducing the damping of the nucleon-resonance trans…
Recent experiments performed on inclusive electron scattering from nuclear targets have measured the nucleon electromagnetic structure functions $F_1(x,Q^2)$, $F_2(x,Q^2)$ and $F_L(x,Q^2)$ in $^{12}C$, $^{27}Al$, $^{56}Fe$ and $^{64}Cu$ nuclei. The measurements have been done in the energy region of $1 GeV^2 < W^2 < 4 GeV^2$ and $Q^2$ region of $0.5 GeV^2 < Q^2 < 4.5 GeV^2$. We have calculated nuclear medium effects in these structure functions arising due to the Fermi motion, binding energy, nucleon correlations, mesonic contributions from pion and rho mesons and shadowing effects. The calcul…
We review recent progress in the understanding of the spin structure of the nucleon. For the free nucleon the issues addressed include the status of the Bjorken and Ellis-Jaffe sum-rules and the role of the axial anomaly. We outline recent work connecting the quark models familiar from hadron spectroscopy to the spin and flavour dependence of the parton distributions. Finally we review the current understanding of nuclear spin structure functions and particularly the extraction of the neutron spin structure function from deuteron data.
We study the mass of a nucleon in a nucleus using a model recently introduced for a nucleon current with a pion cloud component. The method of QCD sum rules is used to determine the mass shifts for nucleons to first order in nuclear density in oxygen-16 and calcium-40, with the pion propagator determined by an optical potential for pion-nucleus scattering. Mass shifts due to the pionic contributions range from negligible in oxygen to -100 MeV in calcium at central nuclear density, with larger shifts in the nuclear surface. The consistency of this model with chiral perturbation theory is demons…
This talk describes the work done in calculating leading logarithms in massive effective field theories. We discuss shortly leading logarithms in renormalizable theories and how they can be calculated using only one-loop calculations in effective field theories. The remainder of the talk discusses masses, decay constants, condensates and anomalous processes in mesonic effective field theories like Chiral Perturbation Theory and the expansion of the nucleon mass.
On the basis of the Brueckner-Hartree-Fock method with the nucleon-nucleon forces obtained from lattice QCD simulations, the properties of the medium-heavy doubly-magic nuclei such as 16^O and 40^Ca are investigated. We found that those nuclei are bound for the pseudo-scalar meson mass M_PS ~ 470 MeV. The mass number dependence of the binding energies, single-particle spectra and density distributions are qualitatively consistent with those expected from empirical data at the physical point, although these hypothetical nuclei at heavy quark mass have smaller binding energies than the real nucl…
We summarise recent progress in theory and experiment towards understanding etaprime meson interactions with nucleons and nuclei. Highlights include the production mechanism of etaprime mesons in proton-proton collisions close to threshold, the etaprime effective mass shift in nuclei and the determination of the etaprime-nucleon scattering length in free space.
Present and prospective fundamental symmetry tests with nucleons, nuclei and atoms are probing for possible new physics at the TeV scale and beyond. These ongoing and proposed table-top as well as accelerator-based experiments are thus a vital component of the Intensity Frontier. At the same time, these tests provide increasingly sophisticated probes of long-distance strong interactions that are responsible for the structure of nucleons and nuclei. In this community report, some of the most compelling opportunities with nucleons, nuclei and atoms are summarized, drawing largely on input receiv…

We argue that generalized parton distributions (GPDs), accessible in hard exclusive processes, carry information about the spatial distribution of forces experienced by quarks and gluons inside hadrons. This way the measurements of hard exclusive processes open a possibility for direct "measurements" of strong forces in different parts of nucleons and nuclei. Also such studies open a venue for addressing questions of the properties of the quark (gluon) matter inside hadrons and nuclei. We give a simple example of relations between GPDs and properties of "nuclear matter" in finite nuclei.
I describe how nuclear structure can be predicted from lattice QCD through low-energy effective field theories, using as an example a world simulation with relatively heavy up and down quarks.
The importance of the effects of nucleon-nucleon (NN) short-range correlations (SRC) and Gribov inelastic shadowing (IS) on various high energy scattering processes involving nuclear targets is demonstrated within an improved Glauber-Gribov approach.
A dynamical quark model of hadron and nucleus structure is proposed. In the frame of the model, called the Strongly Correlated Quark Model, quarks and nucleons inside nuclei are arranged in a crystal--like structure.
We investigate neutrino-nucleus collisions at intermediate energies incorporating quasielastic scattering and Delta(1232) excitation as elementary processes, together with Fermi motion, Pauli blocking and mean-field potentials in the nuclear medium. A full coupled-channel treatment of final state interactions is achieved with a semiclassical BUU transport model. Results for inclusive reactions and nucleon knockout are presented.
We review the production of high-mass lepton pairs in fixed-target experiments, including both Drell-Yan (DY) and heavy quarkonium (J/Psi and Upsilons) production.
In this paper we evaluate the double deeply virtual Compton scattering on nucleons and nuclei in the framework of the color dipole model. Both the effects of quark and the gluon shadowing are taken into account.
I review recent progress in the extraction of unpolarized parton distributions in the proton and in nuclei from a unified point of view that highlights how the interplay between high energy particle physics and lower energy nuclear physics can be of mutual benefit to either field. Areas of overlap range from the search for physics beyond the standard model at the LHC, to the study of the non perturbative structure of nucleons and the emergence of nuclei from quark and gluon degrees of freedom, to the interaction of colored probes in a cold nuclear medium.
Deepening our knowledge of the partonic content of nucleons and nuclei represents a central endeavour of modern high-energy and nuclear physics, with ramifications in related disciplines such as astroparticle physics. There are two main scientific drivers motivating these investigations of the partonic structure of hadrons. On the one hand, addressing fundamental open issues in our understanding in the strong interactions such as the origin of the nucleon mass, spin, and transverse structure; the presence of heavy quarks in the nucleon wave function; and the possible onset of novel gluon-domin…
We present an exploratory study using generalized parton distributions of several observables related to transverse degrees of freedom in hadronic structure -- the nucleon transverse momentum, the transverse radius, or impact parameter, and the momentum transfer, $t$, dependence of the longitudinal variable $x$ -- in both nucleons and nuclei.
We discuss connection between spin-dependent SFs of nucleons and nuclei in the deep inelastic lepton scattering. The case of the deuteron is studied in detail in the Bethe-Salpeter formalism.
We present a model calculation of the generalized parton distributions where the nucleon is described by a quark core surrounded by a mesonic cloud. In the one-meson approximation, we expand the Fock state of the physical nucleon in a series involving a bare nucleon and two-particle, meson-baryon, states. We discuss the role of the different Fock-state components of the nucleon by deriving a convolution formalism for the unpolarized generalized parton distributions, and showing predictions at different kinematics.
The relations between neutrino NC and CC structure functions and cross sections, which are driven by isospin symmetry, are discussed for nucleons and nuclei.
We use the wounded nucleon model to study the forward-backward multiplicity fluctuations measured by the PHOBOS Collaboration in Au+Au collisions at sqrt(s_NN)=200 GeV. The enhancement of forward-backward fluctuations in Au+Au collisions with respect to the elementary p+p interactions is in this model explained by the asymmetric shape of the pseudorapidity density of produced particles from a single wounded nucleon and the fluctuations of the number of wounded nucleons in the colliding nuclei. The wounded nucleon model describes these experimental data better than the HIJING, AMPT or UrQMD mod…
We calculate the total and differential quasielastic cross sections for neutrino and antineutrino scattering on nucleons using up to date fits to the nucleon elastic electromagnetic form factors $G_E^p$, $G_E^n$, $G_M^p$, $G_M^n$, and $F_A$ and pseudoscalar form factors. We compare predictions of the cross sections for nucelons and nuclei to experimental data.
The momentum-transfer dependence of the slopes of the spin-non-flip and spin-flip amplitudes is analysed. It is shown that the long tail of the hadronic potential in impact parameter space leads for hadron-hadron interactions to a larger value of the slope for the reduced spin-flip amplitude than for the spin-non-flip amplitude. It is shown that the preliminary measurement of AN obtained by the E950 Collaboration confirms such a behaviour of the hadron spin-flip amplitude.
In this talk we try to clarify the problems existing on the way of theorist decided to construct nuclear theory on the generalized Skyrme model background. We conclude that to construct such a model of light nuclei one have to construct a hybrid model where one particle degrees of freedom are concentrated around the surface of the nuclei and soliton with non-trivial structure is located at the center region.
The questions on the presense and quantitative role of the constant terms in the real part of the high-energy photon-nucleon and photon-nucleus amplitudes representing the contribution of the non-Regge (the fixed j=0-pole) singularities in the finite-energy sum rules (FESR) for the photoabsorption cross sections on nucleons and the lightest atomic nuclei are discussed and new testable relations are presented for relevant combinations of the Compton scattering amplitudes.
The electric dipole moments of the nucleon and light ions are discussed and strategies for disentangling the underlying sources of CP violation beyond the Kobayashi-Maskawa quark-mixing mechanism of the Standard Model are indicated. Contribution to "45 years of nuclear theory at Stony Brook: a tribute to Gerald E. Brown".
The strongly repulsive core of the short-range nucleon-nucleon interaction leads to the existence of high-momentum nucleons in nuclei. Inclusive electron scattering can be used to probe these high-momentum nucleons and study the nature of the corresponding short-range correlations in nuclei. With recent data from Jefferson Lab we have begun to map out the strength of two-nucleon correlations in nuclei, while upcoming experiments should allow us to isolate the presence of multi-nucleon correlations. In addition to their importance in describing nuclear structure, these configurations of correla…
