Recent experiments performed on inclusive electron scattering from nuclear targets have measured the nucleon electromagnetic structure functions $F_1(x,Q^2)$, $F_2(x,Q^2)$ and $F_L(x,Q^2)$ in $^{12}C$, $^{27}Al$, $^{56}Fe$ and $^{64}Cu$ nuclei. The measurements have been done in the energy region of $1 GeV^2 < W^2 < 4 GeV^2$ and $Q^2$ region of $0.5 GeV^2 < Q^2 < 4.5 GeV^2$. We have calculated nuclear medium effects in these structure functions arising due to the Fermi motion, binding energy, nucleon correlations, mesonic contributions from pion and rho mesons and shadowing effects. The calculations are performed in a local density approximation using relativistic nucleon spectral function which include nucleon correlations. The numerical results are compared with the recent experimental data from JLab and also with some earlier experiments.
A linear correlation is found between the magnitude of nucleon-nucleon short-range correlations and the nuclear binding energy per nucleon with pairing energy removed. By using this relation, the strengths of nucleon-nucleon short-range correlations of some unmeasured nuclei are predicted. Discussions on nucleon-nucleon pairing energy and nucleon-nucleon short-range correlations are made. The found nuclear dependence of nucleon-nucleon short-range correlations may shed some lights on the short-range structure of nucleus.
Despite great theoretical efforts the NN interaction can only be determined with a finite precision, implying an error upper bound for nuclear masses. We analyze for the first time the problem of estimating the systematic errors related to the form of the potential and their impact on nuclear binding. To this end we exploit the concept of coarse grained interactions to typical nuclear wavelengths. Our estimate gives an error of 0.1-0.4 MeV for the binding energy per particle and paves the way for ab initio calculations tailored to such a precision.
The overlap of the nucleons in nuclei plays an important role in understanding the nuclear dependence of deep inelastic scattering data. It is shown that the nuclear modification of the higher twist scale can be essentially determined by the overlapping volume per nucleon and this effect gives a large contribution to nuclear shadowing for small $x$ and low $Q^2$. In this kinematical region there is also a moderate enhancement of the longitudinal structure function in nuclei.
We present a model description of the nucleon valence structure function applicable over the entire region of the Bjorken variable x, and above moderate values of Q**2 (> 1 GeV**2). We stress the importance of describing the complete spectrum of intermediate states which are spectator to the deep-inelastic collision. At a scale of 1 GeV**2 the relevant degrees of freedom are constituent quarks and pions. The large-x region is then described in terms of scattering from constituent quarks in the nucleon, while the dressing of constituent quarks by pions plays an important role at intermediate x …
A relativistic light front formulation of nuclear dynamics is developed and applied to treating infinite nuclear matter in a method which includes the correlations of pairs of nucleons: this is light front Brueckner theory. We start with a hadronic meson-baryon Lagrangian that is consistent with chiral symmetry. This is used to obtain a light front version of a one-boson-exchange nucleon-nucleon potential (OBEP). The accuracy of our description of the nucleon-nucleon (NN) data is good, and similar to that of other relativistic OBEP models. We derive, within the light front formalism, the Hartr…
The nucleon form factors of the energy-momentum tensor are studied in nuclear medium in the framework of the in-medium modified Skyrme model. We obtain a negative D-term, in agreement with results from other approaches, and find that medium effects make the value of d_1 more negative.
We calculate the mass and residue of the nucleon in nuclear matter in the framework of QCD sum rules using the nucleon's interpolating current with an arbitrary mixing parameter. We evaluate the effects of the nuclear medium on these quantities and compare the obtained results with the existing theoretical predictions. The results are also compared with those obtained in vacuum to find the shifts in the quantities under consideration. Our calculations show that these shifts in the mass and residue are about $32\%$ and $15\%$, respectively.
The properties of the nucleons in nuclear medium have been investigated in the context of the flux tube model incorporating strangeness $(s\bar{s})$ contribution to proton structure in conformity with the experimental indication. Proton is described as a pentaquark system with strange quark contribution whereas neutron is described in three quark configuration. The Quasi particle model of diquark is used to describe the structures of the nucleons. Modifications of the properties like swelling, mass, incompressibility, ratio of the structure functions ($\frac{F_{2}^{n}(x)}{F_{2}^{p}(x)}$), Gott…
In this talk we present a description of nuclear binding in a chiral approach based on the existence of a chiral invariant scalar field associated with the generation of the masses through spontaneous chiral symmetry breaking. We discuss the emergence of such a field on the example of the NJL model. We also incorporate the effect of confinement at the level of the nucleon substructure to stabilize nuclear matter. In a particular quark-diquark model we illustrate the simutaneous influences of spontaneous chiral symmetry breaking and confinement on the nucleon mass and on the nuclear matter desc…
Chiral theories with spontaneous symmetry breaking such as the Nambu-Jona-Lasinio (NJL) model lead to the existence of a scalar mode. We present in a detailed manner how the corresponding low momentum effective lagrangian involving the scalar field can be constructed starting from the NJL model. We discuss the relevance of the scalar mode for the problem of the nuclear binding and saturation. We show that it depends on the nucleon mass origin with two extreme cases. If this origin is entirely due to confinement the coupling of this mode to the nucleons vanishes, making it irrelevant for the nu…
We present a simple calculation of the nucleon self-energy in nuclear matter at finite temperature in a relativistic framework, using the real time thermal field theory. The imaginary parts of one-loop graphs are identified with discontinuities across the unitary and the Landau cuts. We find that in general both the cuts contribute significantly to the spectral function in the region of (virtual) nucleon mass usually considered, even though the unitary cut is ignored in the literature. Also our relativistic spectral function differs from the one in non-relativistic approximation, used in some …
Changes in the meson-nucleon coupling constant and the vertex form factor in nuclear matter are studied in a modified Skyrme Lagrangian including the sigma-meson field that satisfies the scale invariance. Renormalization of the axial-vector coupling constant, and the nucleon mass are studied in a consistent model. The results are consistent with the empirical evidence. A calculation of pi N commutator, sigma-term, indicates that the medium changes its magnitude considerably.
Chiral effective lagrangians may differ in their prediction of meson-nucleon scattering amplitudes off-meson-mass-shell, but must yield identical S-matrix elements. We argue that the effective meson mass in nuclear matter obtained from chiral effective lagrangians is also unique. Off-mass-shell amplitudes obtained using the PCAC choice of pion field must therefore not be viewed as fundamental constraints on the dynamics, the determination of the effective meson mass in nuclear matter or the possible existence of meson condensates in the ground state of nuclear matter. This hypothesis is borne …
We investigate the medium modification of the generalized vector form factors of the nucleon, which include the electromagnetic and energy-momentum tensor form factors, based on an in-medium modified $π$-$ρ$-$ω$ soliton model. We find that the vector form factors of the nucleon in nuclear matter fall off faster than those in free space, which implies that the charge radii of the nucleon become larger in nuclear medium than in free space. We also compute the corresponding transverse charge densities of the nucleon in nuclear matter, which clearly reveal the increasing of the nucleon size in nuc…
The scalar-isoscalar mode of QCD becomes lighter/nearly massless close to the chiral transition/second-order critical point. From nuclear physics we know that this mode is the main responsible for the attractive part of the nucleon-nucleon potential at inter-particle distances of 1-2 fm. Therefore one expects that close to the critical point there is a long-range strong attraction among nucleons. Using a Walecka-Serot model for the NN potential we study the effects of the critical point in a finite system of nucleons and mesons by solving classical Molecular Dynamics+Langevin equations for the…
Effect of bound nucleon internal structure change on nuclear structure functions is investigated based on local quark-hadron duality. The bound nucleon structure functions calculated for charged-lepton and (anti)neutrino scattering are all enhanced in symmetric nuclear matter at large Bjorken-$x$ ($x \agt 0.85$) relative to those in a free nucleon. This implies that a part of the enhancement observed in the nuclear structure function $F_2$ (in the resonance region) at large Bjorken-$x$ (the EMC effect) is due to the effect of the bound nucleon internal structure change. However, the $x$ depend…
I discuss the current status of efforts to constrain the strangeness-conserving weak hadronic interaction, which can be isolated in nuclear systems because of the associated parity violation.
Our model calculations performed in the frame of the Relativistic Mean Field (RMF) approach show how important are the modifications of nucleon Structure Function (SF) in Nuclear Matter (NM) above the saturation point. They originated from the conservation of a parton longitudinal momenta - essential in the explanation of the EMC effect at the saturation point of NM. For higher density the finite pressure corrections emerge from the Hugenholtz -van Hove (HH) theorem valid for NM and asks to modify the nucleon SF. The density evolution of the nuclear SF seems to be stronger for higher densities…
We derive QCD sum rules from the nucleon two-point function in nuclear medium, calculating its specral function in chiral perturbation theory to one loop. Our calculation shows the inadequacy of the commonly used ansatz to represent the two-point function as the sum of a nucleon pole term and a spectral integral over the high energy continuum. We also point out that it is the energy variable and not its square that must be used in writing the dispersion integrals. The sum rules are obtained by equating terms linear in nucleon number density of the spectral and operator representations of the c…
We derive a novel chiral power counting scheme for in-medium chiral perturbation theory with explicit nucleonic and pionic degrees of freedom coupled to external sources. It allows for a systematic expansion taking into account local as well as pion-mediated inter-nucleon interactions. Based on this power counting, one can identify classes of non-perturbative diagrams that require a resummation. Within this scheme, the pion self-energy in asymmetric nuclear matter is analyzed and calculated up-to-and-including next-to-leading order (NLO). It is shown that the corrections involving in-medium nu…
Two new QCD sum rules for nucleons in nuclear matter are obtained from a mixed correlator of spin-1/2 and spin-3/2 interpolating fields. These new sum rules, which are insensitive to the poorly known four-quark condensates, provide additional information on the nucleon scalar self-energy. These new sum rules are analyzed along with previous spin-1/2 interpolator-based sum rules which are also insensitive to the poorly known four-quark condensates. The analysis indicates consistency with the expectations of relativistic nuclear phenomenology at nuclear matter saturation density. However, a weak…
The influence of the underlying nucleon-nucleon collision geometry on evaluations of the nuclear overlap function ($T_{AB}$) and number of binary collisions ($N_{coll}$) is studied. A narrowing of the spatial distribution of the hard-partons with large light-cone fraction $x$ in nucleons leads to a downward correction for $N_{coll}$ and $T_{AB}$, which in turn, results in an upward correction for the nuclear modification factor $R_{AB}$. The size of this correction is estimated for several experimentally motivated nucleon-nucleon overlap functions for hard-partons. It is found to be significan…
Making use of the recently developed chiral power counting for the physics of nuclear matter [1,2], we evaluate the in-medium chiral quark condensate up to next-to-leading order for both symmetric nuclear matter and neutron matter. Our calculation includes the full in-medium iteration of the leading order local and one-pion exchange nucleon-nucleon interactions. Interestingly, we find a cancellation between the contributions stemming from the quark mass dependence of the nucleon mass appearing in the in-medium nucleon-nucleon interactions. Only the contributions originating from the explicit q…
We examine a recently proposed nucleon-nucleon interaction, claimed by its authors both realistic and leading to a standing wave instability in symmetric nuclear matter. Contrary to these claims, we find that this interaction leads to a serious overbinding of 4He, 16O and 40Ca nuclei when the Hartree-Fock method is properly applied. The resulting nuclear densities contradict the experimental data and all realistic Hartree-Fock results.
The present thesis deals with the theoretical study of multi-fragmentation and its related phenomena's like directed transverse flow, rapidity distribution, elliptical flow and nuclear stopping in intermediate energy heavy-ion collisions for asymmetric colliding nuclei. We aim to discuss the role of Coulomb interactions, nuclear equations of state (NEOS) and various rapidity bins by taking mass asymmetry into account.
Knowledge about parity-violating effects both from theory and experiment is reviewed. Further information that could be obtained from measurements of nuclear anapole moments is discussed.
We present recent studies on the effective mass of the nucleon in infinite and homogeneous nuclear matter and its relation to nuclear matter properties within the framework of the in-medium modified Skyrme model. Medium modifications are achieved by introducing optical potential for pion fields and parametrization of the Skyrme parameter in nuclear medium. The present approach is phenomenologically well justified by pion physics in nuclear matter and describe successfully bulk nuclear matter properties.
The effects of charge independence breaking of nucleon-nucleon interaction on the bulk properties of nuclear matter are investigated. Our results indicate that at high densities, the inclusion of charge dependence in the nucleon-nucleon potential affects the bulk properties of nuclear matter. However, at low densities, this effect is not considerable. It is seen that the change of our results for the nuclear matter calculations due to the breaking of the charge independence increases by increasing density. It is shown that the energy contribution of the $^1S_0$ channel is sensitive to consider…
We present a model for the description of nuclear matter and finite nuclei, and at the same time, for the study of medium modifications of nucleon properties. The nucleons are described as nontopological solitons which interact through the self-consistent exchange of scalar and vector mesons. The model explicitly incorporates quark degrees of freedom into nuclear many-body systems and provides satisfactory results on the nuclear properties. The present model predicts a significant increase of the nucleon radius at normal nuclear matter density. It is very interesting to see the nucleon propert…
We investigate single-particle properties in infinite nuclear matter using a variety of interactions. One of the focal points is to study the impact of chiral three-nucleon forces on the nucleon self-energy and related quantities, such as spectral function and momentum distribution. We also present results for pairing correlations in nuclear matter. We find characteristic and systematic differences between the predictions obtained with the (softer) chiral interactions and those based on one-boson-exchange or phenomenology.
Some fundamental Nucleon-Nucleon interactions and their applications to finite nuclei are reviewed. Results for the few-body systems and from Shell-Model calculations are discussed and compared to point out the advantages and disadvantages of the different Nucleon-Nucleon interactions. The recently developed Drexel University Shell Model (DUSM) code is mentioned.
We study the possible relationship between the saturation properties of nuclear matter and the inclusion of non-locality in the nucleon-nucleon interaction. To this purpose we compute the saturation curve of nuclear matter within the Bethe-Brueckner-Goldstone theory using a recently proposed realistic non-local potential, and compare it with the corresponding curves obtained with a purely local realistic interaction (Argonne v$_{18}$) and the most recent version of the one-boson exchange potential (CD Bonn). We find that the inclusion of non-locality in the two-nucleon bare interaction strongl…
After reviewing our microscopic approach to nuclear and neutron-rich matter, we focus on how nucleon-nucleon scattering is impacted by the presence of a dense hadronic medium, with special emphasis on the case where neutron and proton densities are different. We discuss in detail medium and isospin asymmetry effects on the total elastic cross section and the mean free path of a neutron or a proton in isospin-asymmetric nuclear matter. We point out that in-medium cross sections play an important role in heavy-ion simulations aimed at extracting constraints on the symmetry potential. We argue th…
Realistic nuclear potentials, derived within chiral perturbation theory, are a major breakthrough in modern nuclear structure theory, since they provide a direct link between nuclear physics and its underlying theory, namely the QCD. As a matter of fact, chiral potentials are tailored on the low-energy regime of nuclear structure physics, and chiral perturbation theory provides on the same footing two-nucleon forces as well as many-body ones. This feature fits well with modern advances in ab-initio methods and realistic shell-model. Here, we will review recent nuclear structure calculations, b…
Using an isospin-dependent quantum molecular dynamics, nuclear stopping in intermediate heavy ion collisions has been studied. The calculation has been done for colliding systems with different neutron-proton ratios in beam energy ranging from 15MeV/u to 150MeV/u. It is found that, in the energy region from above Fermi energy to 150MeV/u, nuclear stopping is very sensitive to the isospin dependence of in-medium nucleon-nucleon cross section, but insensitive to symmetry potential. From this investigation, we propose that nuclear stopping can be used as a new probe to extract the information on …
We investigated the transverse charge densities in the nucleon in nuclear matter within the framework of the in-medium modified Skyrme model. The medium modification of the nucleon electromagnetic form factors are first discussed. The results show that the form factors in nuclear matter fall off faster than those in free space, as the momentum transfer increases. As a result, the charge radii of the nucleon become larger, as the nuclear matter density increases. The transverse charge densities in the nucleon indicate that the size of the nucleon tends to bulge out in nuclear matter. This salie…
The properties of nuclear matter are studied using state-of-the-art nucleon-nucleon forces up to fifth order in chiral effective field theory. The equations of state of symmetric nuclear matter and pure neutron matter are calculated in the framework of the Brueckner-Hartree-Fock theory. We discuss in detail the convergence pattern of the chiral expansion and the regulator dependence of the calculated equations of state and provide an estimation of the truncation uncertainty. For all employed values of the regulator, the fifth-order chiral two-nucleon potential is found to generate nuclear satu…
We present a calculation of low energy magnetic states of doubly-closed-shell nuclei. Our results have been obtained within the random phase approximation using different nucleon-nucleon interactions, having zero- or finite-range and including a possible contribution in the tensor channel.
Modern nucleon-nucleon (NN) potentials, which accurately fit the nucleon-nucleon scattering phase shifts, contain terms which break isospin symmetry. The effects of these symmetry violating terms on the bulk properties of nuclear matter are investigated. The predictions of the charge symmetry breaking (CSB) terms are compared with the Nolen-Schiffer (NS) anomaly regarding the energies of neighboring mirror nuclei. We find that, for a quantitative explanation of the NS anomaly, it is crucial to include CSB in partial waves with $L>0$ (besides $^1S_0$) as derived from a microscopic model for CSB…
We calculate the nucleon parameters in isospin symmetric and asymmetric nuclear matter using the QCD sum rules. The higher moments of the nucleon structure functions are included. The complete set of the nucleon expectation values of the four-quark operators is employed. We analyze the role of the lowest order radiative corrections beyond the logarithmic approximation.
As follows from the energies of single-particle states in ^{40}Ca, ^{90}Zr and ^{208}Pb nuclei the contribution of many-particle NN forces to the nuclear single-particle potential is at least the sum of repulsive and attractive parts resulting from three-particle and four-particle forces respectively. In addition the specified nucleon density distributions in the above nuclei are determined from both the 1 GeV proton-nucleus elastic scattering and the single-particle energies.
We study the triton and three-nucleon force at lowest chiral order in pionless effective field theory both in the Hamiltonian and Euclidean nuclear lattice formalism. In the case of the Euclidean lattice formalism, we derive the exact few-body worldline amplitudes corresponding to the standard many-body lattice action. This will be useful for setting low-energy coefficients in future nuclear lattice simulations. We work in the Wigner SU(4)-symmetric limit where the S-wave scattering lengths {1}S{0} and {3}S{1} are equal. By comparing with continuum results, we demonstrate for the first time th…
The influence of the nuclear medium upon the internal structure of a composite nucleon is examined. The interaction with the medium is assumed to depend on the relative distances between the quarks in the nucleon consistent with the notion of color neutrality, and to be proportional to the nucleon density. In the resulting description the nucleon in matter is a superposition of the ground state (free nucleon) and radial excitations. The effects of the nuclear medium on the electromagnetic and weak nucleon form factors, and the nucleon structure function are computed using a light-front constit…
A systematic study of the in-medium correction factor ($F$) on nucleon-nucleon elastic cross section is performed within the Ultra-relativistic Quantum Molecular Dynamics (UrQMD) model. The effects of the beam energy dependence of $F$ on the directed, elliptic flow and nuclear stopping in $^{197}$Au+$^{197}$Au collisions with energy ranging from $0.09$ to $0.8A$ GeV are explored. It is found that the directed, elliptic flow and nuclear stopping at relatively low energies are very sensitive to $F$, and the sensitivity gradually weakens with increasing beam energy. The beam energy dependent in-m…
We consider 1S0 pairing in infinite neutron matter and nuclear matter and show that in the lowest order approximation, where the pairing interaction is taken to be the bare nucleon-nucleon (NN) interaction in the 1S0 channel, the pairing interaction and the energy gap can be determined directly from the 1S0 phase shifts. This is due to the almost separable character of the NN interaction in this partial wave. Since the most recent NN interactions are charge-dependent, we have to solve coupled gap equations for proton-proton, neutron-neutron, and neutron-proton pairing in nuclear matter. The re…
We present calculations of the energy per particle of pure neutron and symmetric nuclear matter with simplified Argonne nucleon-nucleon potentials for different many-body theories. We compare critically the Brueckner-Hartree-Fock results to other formalisms, such as the Brueckner-Bethe-Goldstone expansion up to third order, Self-Consistent Green's Functions, Auxiliary Field Diffusion Monte Carlo, and Fermi Hyper Netted Chain. We evaluate the importance of spin-orbit and tensor correlations in the equation of state and find these to be important in a wide range of densities.
New parameter-sets of the M3Y-type semi-realistic nucleon-nucleon interaction are obtained, by taking into account the whole contribution of the interaction to the pairing. The interactions are applicable to nuclear structure studies via mean-field calculations and their extensions. Implementing self-consistent mean-field calculations for the spherical nuclei, we confirm that the results do not change significantly from the previous ones, in which the parameters were determined by partly discarding influence of the density-dependent repulsion on the pairing.
The properties of vector mesons in nuclear matter are discussed. I examine the constraints imposed by elementary processes on the widths of $ρ$ and $ω$ mesons in nuclear matter. Furthermore, results for the $ρ$- and $ω$-nucleon scattering amplitudes obtained by fitting meson-nucleon scattering data in a coupled-channel approach are presented.
In this work we show the modifications of nucleon mass and nucleon radius with the help of the extended Relativistic Mean Field (RMF) model. We argue that even small departures above nuclear equilibrium density with constant nucleon mass require an energy transfer from the repulsive mean field to the quarks forming nucleon massive bags in Nuclear Matter (NM), together with the decrease in the nucleon volume. The transfer, which is proportional to pressure and absent in a standard RMF approach, provides good values for nuclear compressibility, symmetry energy and its slope. Different courses of…
After a brief review on the status of few--nucleon studies based on conventional nuclear forces, we sketch the concepts of the effective field theory approach constrained by chiral symmetry and its application to nuclear forces. Then first results for few--nucleon observables are discussed.
Quark mass dependence of the equation of state (EOS) for nucleonic matter is investigated, on the basis of the Brueckner-Hartree-Fock method with the nucleon-nucleon interaction extracted from lattice QCD simulations. We observe saturation of nuclear matter at the lightest available quark mass corresponding to the pseudoscalar meson mass ~ 469 MeV. Mass-radius relation of the neutron stars is also studied with the EOS for neutron-star matter from the same nuclear force in lattice QCD. We observe that the EOS becomes stiffer and thus the maximum mass of neutron star increases as the quark mass …
We report on our recent self-consistent calculations of $K^-$ nuclear quasi-bound states using $K^-$ optical potentials derived from chirally motivated meson-baryon coupled channels models [1,2]. The $K^-$ single-nucleon potentials were supplemented by a phenomenological $K^-$ multi-nucleon interaction term introduced to achieve good fits to $K^-$ atom data. We demonstrate a substantial impact of the $K^-$ multi-nucleon absorption on the widths of $K^-$ nuclear states. If such states ever exist in nuclear many-body systems, their widths are excessively large to allow observation.
The 1S0 pairing gap in isospin-symmetric nuclear matter and finite nuclei is investigated using the chiral nucleon-nucleon potential at the N3LO order in the two-body sector, and the N2LO order in the three-body sector. To include realistic nuclear forces in RHB (Relativistic Hartree Bolgoliubov) calculations we rely on a separable form of the pairing interaction adjusted to the bare nuclear force. The separable pairing force is applied to the analysis of pairing properties for several isotopic and isotonic chains of spherical nuclei.
Binding energies of ^{3}H, ^{4}He, and ^{16}O are calculated, using low-momentum nucleon-nucleon interactions (V_{low-k}) for a wide range of the cutoff momentum Λ. In addition, single-particle energies in nuclei around ^{16}O are computed. The dependence of the binding energies and the single-particle energies in these nuclei on the cutoff momentum Λof the V_{low-k} is examined. Furthermore, the availability of the V_{low-k} in nuclear structure calculations is discussed.
We study the two-nucleon force at next-to-next-to-leading order in a chiral effective field theory with explicit Delta degrees of freedom. Fixing the appearing low-energy constants from a next-to-leading order calculation of pion-nucleon threshold parameters, we find an improved convergence of most peripheral nucleon-nucleon phases compared to the theory with pions and nucleons only. In the delta-full theory, the next-to-leading order corrections are dominant in most partial waves considered.
Faddeev-Yakubovski equations in configuration space are used to solve four nucleon problem for bound and scattering states. Different realistic interaction models are tested, elucidating open problems in nuclear interaction description. On one hand, by example of nonlocal Doleschall potential, we reveal possibility of reducing three-nucleon force. On the other hand we disclose discrepancies in describing n+$^3$H resonance, which seems to be hardly related with off-shell structure of nucleon-nucleon interaction.
We calculate the nucleon parameters in isospin asymmetric nuclear matter using the QCD sum rules. The nucleon self-energies are expressed in terms of the in-medium values of QCD condensates. The simple approximate expressions for the self-energies are obtained in terms of these condensates. Relation between successive inclusion of the condensates and the meson-exchange picture of the nucleon interaction with medium is analyzed. The values of the self-energies and of the symmetry energy agree with those obtained by the methods of nuclear physics.
To obtain an understanding of the structure and reactions of nuclear systems from first principles has been a long-standing goal of nuclear physics. In this respect, few- and many-body systems provide a unique laboratory for studying nuclear interactions. During the past decades, the development of accurate representations of the nuclear force has undergone substantial progress. Particular emphasis has been devoted to chiral effective field theory (EFT), a low-energy effective representation of quantum chromodynamics (QCD). Within chiral EFT, many studies have been carried out dealing with the…
