The understanding of thermodynamic glass transition has been hindered by the lack of proper models beyond mean-field theories. Here, we propose a three-dimensional lattice glass model on a simple cubic lattice that exhibits the typical dynamics observed in fragile supercooled liquids such as two-step relaxation, super-Arrhenius growth in the relaxation time, and dynamical heterogeneity. Using advanced Monte Carlo methods, we compute the thermodynamic properties deep inside the glassy temperature regime, well below the onset temperature of the slow dynamics. The specific heat has a finite jump towards the thermodynamic limit with critical exponents close to those expected from the hyperscaling and the random first-order transition theory for the glass transition. We also study an effective free energy of glasses, the Franz--Parisi potential, as a function of the overlap between equilibrium and quenched configurations. The effective free energy indicates the existence of a first-order phase transition, consistent with the random first-order transition theory. These findings strongly suggest that the glassy dynamics of the model has its origin in thermodynamics.
Nearest-neighbor-interaction Ising spin glasses are studied on three different hierarchical lattices, all of them belonging to the Wheatstone-Bridge family. It is shown that the spin-glass lower critical dimension in these lattices should be greater than 2.32. Finite-temperature spin-glass phases are found for a lattice of fractal dimension $D \approx 3.58$ (whose unit cell is obtained from a simple construction of a part of the cubic lattice), as well as for a lattice of fractal dimension close to five.
We numerically investigate the thermodynamic properties of the glass state. As the object of our study, we employ a binary lattice gas model. Through Monte Carlo simulations, we find that this model actually experiences a glass transition. We introduce a potential into the model that represents a piston with which we compress the glass. By measuring the work performed in this process, we find that irreversible works exist at the glass state even in the quasistatic limit. This implies that yield stress is created by the glass transition.
We directly detect the ergodicity breaking in a lattice glass model by a numerical simulation. The obtained results nicely agree with those by the cavity method that the model on a regular random graph exhibits a dynamical transition with the ergodicity breaking at an occupation density. The present method invented for a numerical detection of the ergodicity breaking is applicable to glassy systems in finite dimensions.
We study a lattice model with two body interactions that reproduces in three-dimensions many features of structural glasses, like cage effect and vanishing diffusivity. While having a crystalline state at low temperatures, it does not crystallize when quenched, even at the slowest cooling rate used, which makes it suitable to study the glass transition. We study the model on the Bethe lattice as well, and find a scenario typical of p-spin models, as in the Biroli Mezard model.
We introduce a hard-core lattice-gas model on generalized Bethe lattices and investigate analytically and numerically its compaction behavior. If compactified slowly, the system undergoes a first-order crystallization transition. If compactified much faster, the system stays in a meta-stable liquid state and undergoes a glass transition under further compaction. We show that this behavior is induced by geometrical frustration which appears due to the existence of short loops in the generalized Bethe lattices. We also compare our results to numerical simulations of a three-dimensional analog of…
By quenched-randomly mixing local units of different spatial dimensionalities, we have studied Ising spin-glass systems on hierarchical lattices continuously in dimensionalities 1 =< d =< 3. The global phase diagram in temperature, antiferromagnetic bond concentration, and spatial dimensionality is calculated. We find that, as dimension is lowered, the spin-glass phase disappears to zero temperature at the lower-critical dimension d_c=2.431. Our system being a physically realizable system, this sets an upper limit to the lower-critical dimension in general for the Ising spin-glass phase. As di…
We investigate the connection between the well known Sherrington-Kirkpatrick Ising Spin Glass and the corresponding Lattice Gas model by analyzing the relation between their thermodynamical functions. We present results of replica approach in the Replica Symmetric approximation and discuss its stability as a function of temperature and external source. Next we examine the effects of first order Replica Symmetry Breaking at zero temperature. We finally compare SK results with ours and suggest how the latter could be relevant to a description of the structural glass transition.
We have studied a the 3-$d$ lattice glass of Pica Ciamarra, Tarzia, de Candia and Coniglio [Phys.\ Rev.\ E. 67, 057105 (2013)], which has been shown to reproduce several features of the structural glass phenomenology, such as the cage effect, exponential increase of relaxation times and ageing. We show, using short-time dynamics, that the metastability limit is above the estimated Kauzmann temperature. We also find that in the region where the metastable liquid exists the aging exponent is lower that 0.5, indicating that equilibrium is reached relatively quickly. We conclude that the usefulnes…
It is presented a theory that describes a spin glass phase at finite temperatures in Kondo lattice systems with an additional RKKY interaction represented by long range, random couplings among localized spins like in the Sherrington- Kirkpatrick (SK) spin glass model. The problem is studied within the functional integral formalism where the spin operators are represented by bilinear combinations of fermionic (anticommuting) Grassmann variables. The Kondo and spin glass transitions are both described with the mean field like static ansatz that reproduces good results in the two well known limit…
We study a lattice model of attractive colloids. It is exactly solvable on sparse random graphs. As the pressure and temperature are varied it reproduces many characteristic phenomena of liquids, glasses and colloidal systems such as ideal gel formation, liquid-glass phase coexistence, jamming, or the reentrance of the glass transition.
We study a kinetically constrained lattice glass model in which continuous local densities are randomly redistributed on neighbouring sites with a kinetic constraint that inhibits the process at high densities, and a random bias accounting for attractive or repulsive interactions. The full steady-state distribution can be computed exactly in any space dimension d. Dynamical heterogeneities are characterized by a length scale that diverges when approaching the critical density. The glassy dynamics of the model can be described as a reaction-diffusion process for the mobile regions. The motion o…
Motivated by the concept of geometrical frustration, we introduce a class of statistical mechanics lattice models for the glass transition. Monte Carlo simulations in three dimensions show that they display a dynamical glass transition which is very similar to that observed in other off-lattice systems and which does not depend on a specific dynamical rule. Whereas their analytic solution within the Bethe approximation shows that they do have a discontinuous glass transition compatible with the numerical observations.
The Glauber dynamics of disordered spin models with multi-spin interactions on sparse random graphs (Bethe lattices) is investigated. Such models undergo a dynamical glass transition upon decreasing the temperature or increasing the degree of constrainedness. Our analysis is based upon a detailed study of large scale rearrangements which control the slow dynamics of the system close to the dynamical transition. Particular attention is devoted to the neighborhood of a zero temperature tricritical point. Both the approach and several key results are conjectured to be valid in a considerably more…
We examine probability distributions for thermodynamic quantities in finite-sized random systems close to criticality. Guided by available exact results, a general ansatz is proposed for replicated free energies, which leads to scaling forms for cumulants of various macroscopic observables. For the specific example of a planar flux line lattice in a two dimensional superconducting film near H_c1, we provide detailed results for the statistics of the magnetic flux density, susceptibility, heat capacity, and their cross-correlations.
We show strong evidence for the absence of a finite-temperature spin glass transition for the random-bond Ising model on self-dual lattices. The analysis is performed by an application of duality relations, which enables us to derive a precise but approximate location of the multicritical point on the Nishimori line. This method can be systematically improved to presumably give the exact result asymptotically. The duality analysis, in conjunction with the relationship between the multicritical point and the spin glass transition point for the symmetric distribution function of randomness, lead…
The spin-glass $q$-state Potts model on $d$-dimensional diamond hierarchical lattices is investigated by an exact real space renormalization group scheme. Above a critical dimension $d_l(q)$ for $q > 2$, the coupling constants probability distribution flows to a low-temperature \emph{strange attractor} or to the high-temperature paramagnetic fixed point, according to the temperature is below or above the critical temperature $T_c(q,d)$. The strange attractor was investigated considering four initial different distributions for $q = 3$ and $d = 5$ presenting strong robustness in shape and tempe…
A conjecture is given for the exact location of the multicritical point in the phase diagram of the +/- J Ising model on the triangular lattice. The result p_c=0.8358058 agrees well with a recent numerical estimate. From this value, it is possible to derive a comparable conjecture for the exact location of the multicritical point for the hexagonal lattice, p_c=0.9327041, again in excellent agreement with a numerical study. The method is a variant of duality transformation to relate the triangular lattice directly with its dual triangular lattice without recourse to the hexagonal lattice, in co…
We derive the zero-temperature phase diagram of spin glass models with a generic fraction of ferromagnetic interactions on the Bethe lattice. We use the cavity method at the level of one-step replica symmetry breaking (1RSB) and we find three phases: A replica-symmetric (RS) ferromagnetic one, a magnetized spin glass one (the so-called mixed phase), and an unmagnetized spin glass one. We are able to give analytic expressions for the critical point where the RS phase becomes unstable with respect to 1RSB solutions: we also clarify the mechanism inducing such a phase transition. Finally we compa…
We investigate the magnetic and glassy transitions of the square-lattice XY model in the presence of random phase shifts. We consider two different random-shift distributions: the Gaussian distribution and a slightly different distribution (cosine distribution) which allows the exact determination of the Nishimori line where magnetic and overlap correlation functions are equal. We perform Monte Carlo simulations for several values of the temperature and of the variance of the disorder distribution, in the paramagnetic phase close to the magnetic and glassy transition lines. We find that, along…
The stiffness exponents in the glass phase for lattice spin glasses in dimensions $d=3,...,6$ are determined. To this end, we consider bond-diluted lattices near the T=0 glass transition point $p^*$. This transition for discrete bond distributions occurs just above the bond percolation point $p_c$ in each dimension. Numerics suggests that both points, $p_c$ and $p^*$, seem to share the same $1/d$-expansion, at least for several leading orders, each starting with $1/(2d)$. Hence, these lattice graphs have average connectivities of $α=2dp\gtrsim1$ near $p^*$ and exact graph-reduction methods bec…
We show that facilitated spin models of cooperative dynamics introduced by Fredrickson and Andersen display on Bethe lattices a glassy behaviour similar to the one predicted by the mode-coupling theory of supercooled liquids and the dynamical theory of mean-field disordered systems. At low temperature such cooperative models show a two-step relaxation and their equilibration time diverges at a finite temperature according to a power-law. The geometric nature of the dynamical arrest corresponds to a bootstrap percolation process which leads to a phase space organization similar to the one of me…
Lattice molecule models are proposed in order to study statistical mechanics of glass transition in finite dimensions. Molecules in the models are represented by hard Wang tiles and their density is controlled by a chemical potential. An infinite series of irregular ground states are constructed theoretically. By defining a glass order parameter as a collection of the overlap with each ground state, a thermodynamic transition to a glass phase is found in a stratified Wang tiles model on a cubic lattice.
We conjecture the existence of a relationship between frustration and the transition point at zero temperature of Ising spin glasses. The relation reveals that, in several Ising spin glass models, the concentration of ferromagnetic bonds is close to the critical concentration at zero temperature when the output of a function about frustration is equal to unity. The function is the derivative of the average number of frustrated plaquettes with respect to the average number of antiferromagnetic bonds. This relation is conjectured in Ising spin glasses with binary couplings on two-dimensional lat…
The locations of multicritical points on many hierarchical lattices are numerically investigated by the renormalization group analysis. The results are compared with an analytical conjecture derived by using the duality, the gauge symmetry and the replica method. We find that the conjecture does not give the exact answer but leads to locations slightly away from the numerically reliable data. We propose an improved conjecture to give more precise predictions of the multicritical points than the conventional one. This improvement is inspired by a new point of view coming from renormalization gr…
A constructive scheme for determining pure states (clusters) at very low temperature in the 3-spins glass model on a random lattice is provided, in full agreement with Parisi's one step replica symmetry breaking (RSB) scheme. Proof is based on the analysis of an exact decimation procedure. When the number c of couplings per spin is smaller than some critical value c_d, all spins are eliminated at the end of decimation (RS phase). In the range c_d<c<c_s, a reduced Hamiltonian is left; each ground state (GS) of the latter is a "seed" from which a cluster of GS of the original Hamiltonian can be …
The nature of spin-glass phase of the four-dimensional Edwards-Anderson Ising model is numerically studied by eigenmode analysis of the susceptibility matrix up to the lattice size 10^4. Unlike the preceding results on smaller lattices, our result suggests that there exist multiple extensive eigenvalues of the matrix, which does not contradict replica-symmetry-breaking scenarios. The sensitivity of the eigenmodes with respect to a temperature change is examined using finite-size-scaling analysis and an evidence of anomalous sensitivity is found. A computational advantage of dual formulation of…
A nearest-neighbor-interaction Ising spin glass, in the presence of an external magnetic field, is studied on different hierarchical lattices that approach the cubic lattice. The magnetic field is considered as uniform, or random (following either a bimodal or a Gaussian probability distribution). In all cases, a spin-glass attractor is found, in the plane magnetic field versus temperature, associated with a low-temperature phase. The physical consequences of this attractor are discussed, in view of the present scenario of the spin-glass problem.
The lower-critical dimension for the existence of the Ising spin-glass phase is calculated, numerically exactly, as $d_L = 2.520$ for a family of hierarchical lattices, from an essentially exact (correlation coefficent $R^2 = 0.999999$) near-linear fit to 23 different diminishing fractional dimensions. To obtain this result, the phase transition temperature between the disordered and spin-glass phases, the corresponding critical exponent $y_T$, and the runaway exponent $y_R$ of the spin-glass phase are calculated for consecutive hierarchical lattices as dimension is lowered.
We consider ``lattice glass models'' in which each site can be occupied by at most one particle, and any particle may have at most l occupied nearest neighbors. Using the cavity method for locally tree-like lattices, we derive the phase diagram, with a particular focus on the vitreous phase and the highest packing limit. We also study the energy landscape via the configurational entropy, and discuss different equilibrium glassy phases. Finally, we show that a kinetic freezing, depending on the particular dynamical rules chosen for the model, can prevent the equilibrium glass transitions.
We examine the phenomenon of dynamical heterogeneity in computer simulations of an equilibrium, glass-forming liquid. We describe several approaches to quantify the spatial correlation of single-particle motion, and show that spatial correlations of particle displacements become increasingly long-range as the temperature decreases toward the mode coupling critical temperature.
Monte Carlo studies of the 3D random field $XY$ model on simple cubic lattices of size $64^3$, using two different isotropic random-field probability distributions of moderate strength, show a glassy freezing behavior above $T_c$, and long-range order below $T_c$, consistent with our earlier results for weaker and stronger random fields. This model should describe random pinning in vortex lattices in type-II superconducting alloys, charge-density wave materials, and decagonal quasicrystals.
The study of the mean-field static solution of the Random Blume-Emery-Griffiths-Capel model, an Ising-spin lattice gas with quenched random magnetic interaction, is performed. The model exhibits a paramagnetic phase, described by a stable Replica Symmetric solution. When the temperature is decreased or the density increases, the system undergoes a phase transition to a Full Replica Symmetry Breaking spin-glass phase. The nature of the transition can be either of the second order (like in the Sherrington-Kirkpatrick model) or, at temperature below a given critical value, of the first order in t…
The geometrically-frustrated spin glass Y2Mo2O7 has been considered widely to be crystallographically ordered with a unique nearest neighbor magnetic exchange interaction, J. To test this assertion, we present x-ray-absorption fine-structure results for the Mo and Y K edges as a function of temperature and compare them to results from a well-ordered pyrochlore, Tl2Mn2O7. We find that the Mo-Mo pair distances are significantly disordered at approximately right angles to the Y-Mo pairs. These results strongly suggest that lattice disorder nucleates the spin-glass phase in this material.
The average ground state energies for spin glasses on Bethe lattices of connectivities r=3,...,15 are studied numerically for a Gaussian bond distribution. The Extremal Optimization heuristic is employed which provides high-quality approximations to ground states. The energies obtained from extrapolation to the thermodynamic limit smoothly approach the ground-state energy of the Sherrington-Kirkpatrick model for r->\infty. Consistently for all values of r in this study, finite-size corrections are found to decay approximately with ~N^{-4/5}. The possibility of ~N^{-2/3} corrections, found prev…
We numerically study a nondisordered lattice spin system with a first order liquid-crystal transition, as a model for supercooled liquids and glasses. Below the melting temperature the system can be kept in the metastable liquid phase, and it displays a dynamic phenomenology analogous to fragile supercooled liquids, with stretched exponential relaxation, power law increase of the relaxation time and high fragility index. At an effective spinodal temperature Tsp the relaxation time exceeds the crystal nucleation time, and the supercooled liquid loses stability. Below Tsp liquid properties canno…
A new class of lattice gas models with trivial interactions but constrained dynamics are introduced. These are proven to exhibit a dynamical glass transition: above a critical density, rho_c, ergodicity is broken due to the appearance of an infinite spanning cluster of jammed particles. The fraction of jammed particles is discontinuous at the transition, while in the unjammed phase dynamical correlation lengths and timescales diverge as exp[C(rho_c-rho)^(-mu)]. Dynamic correlations display two-step relaxation similar to glass-formers and jamming systems.
A class of pyrochlore oxides, $A_2$Mo$_2$O$_7$ ($A =$ Ho, Y, Dy, Tb) with magnetic ions on corner-sharing tetrahedra is known to exhibit spin-glass transitions without appreciable amount of quenched disorder. Recently a disorder-free theoretical model for such a system has been proposed which takes into account not only spins but also lattice distortions as dynamical variables [K. Mitsumoto, C. Hotta and H. Yoshino, Phys. Rev. Lett. 124, 087201 (2020)]. In the present paper we develop and analyze an exactly solvable disorder-free mean-field model which is a higher-dimensional counterpart of th…
In this paper we consider in detail the properties of dynamical heterogeneity in lattice glass models (LGMs). LGMs are lattice models whose dynamical rules are based on thermodynamic, as opposed to purely kinetic, considerations. We devise a LGM that is not prone to crystallization and displays properties of a fragile glass-forming liquid. Particle motion in this model tends to be locally anisotropic on intermediate time scales even though the rules governing the model are isotropic. The model demonstrates violations of the Stokes-Einstein relation and the growth of various length scales assoc…
We propose an interacting lattice gas model of structural glass characterized by particle distinguishability and site-particle-dependent random nearest-neighboring particle interactions. This incorporates disorder quenched in the configuration space rather than in the physical space. The model exhibits non-trivial energetics while still admitting exact equilibrium states directly constructible at arbitrary temperature and density. The dynamics is defined by activated hopping following standard kinetic Monte Carlo approach without explicit facilitation rule. Kinetic simulations show emergent dy…
Kinetically constrained lattice models of glasses introduced by Kob and Andersen (KA) are analyzed. It is proved that only two behaviors are possible on hypercubic lattices: either ergodicity at all densities or trivial non-ergodicity, depending on the constraint parameter and the dimensionality. But in the ergodic cases, the dynamics is shown to be intrinsically cooperative at high densities giving rise to glassy dynamics as observed in simulations. The cooperativity is characterized by two length scales whose behavior controls finite-size effects: these are essential for interpreting simulat…
We study the thermodynamics of discrete breathers by transforming a lattice of weakly coupled nonlinear oscillators into an effective Ising pseudospin model. We introduce a replica ensemble and investigate the effective system susceptibilities through the replica overlap distribution. We find that a transition occurs at a given temperature to a new phase characterized by a slow decay of the relevant correlation functions. Comparison of long time pseudospin correlation functions to maximal replica overlap demonstrates that the high temperature phase has glassy-like properties induced by short r…
We investigate a possible relation between frustration and phase-transition points in spin glasses. The relation is represented as a condition of the number of frustrated plaquettes in the lattice at phase-transition points at zero temperature and was reported to provide very close points to the phase-transition points for several lattices. Although there has been no proof of the relation, the good correspondence in several lattices suggests the validity of the relation and some important role of frustration in the phase transitions. To examine the relation further, we present a natural extens…
We introduce a lattice spin model where frustration is due to multibody interactions rather than quenched disorder in the Hamiltonian. The system has a crystalline ground state and below the melting temperature displays a dynamic behaviour typical of fragile glasses. However, the supercooled phase loses stability at an effective spinodal temperature, and thanks to this the Kauzmann paradox is resolved. Below the spinodal the system enters an off-equilibrium regime corresponding to fast crystal nucleation followed by slow activated crystal growth. In this phase and in a time region which is lon…
Studying the series expansion of the thermodynamic potential for the hard-core N3 lattice-gas model, we provide evidence for a first-order phase-transition with a finite jump in density and entropy, in agreement with numerical transfer matrix calculations. The solid branch terminates at the transition, while the fluid branch continues beyond the critical activity, describing a meta-stable super-cooled fluid. It terminates with density 0.85 (relative to the closest packing density) and finite entropy per site. This termination density is close to the random-closest-packing density of the glassy…
We examine the relation between the free volume per particle and the variance of the particle position, equivalent to a local Debye-Waller (DW) factor for a 2D glass-forming alloy using molecular dynamics simulations. We find that the latter quantity exhibits significant spatial heterogeneity despite involving trajectories two orders of magnitude shorter than those typically used to measure such heterogeneities. We find that the free volume exhibits no significant spatial correlation with the local DW factor. We conclude that the spatial variation in local free volume is not the cause of the s…
The formal structure of glass singularities in the mode-coupling theory (MCT) of supercooled liquids dynamics is closely related to that appearing in the analysis of heterogeneous bootstrap percolation on Bethe lattices, random graphs and complex networks. Starting from this observation one can build up microscopic on lattice realizations of schematic MCT based on cooperative facilitated spin mixtures. I discuss a microscopic implementation of the F13 schematic model including multiple glassy states and the glass-glass transition. Results suggest that our approach is flexible enough to bridge …
We study the anisotropic Heisenberg spin-glass model in a three-dimensional hierarchical lattice (designed to approximate the cubic lattice), within a real-space renormalization-group approach. Two different initial probability distributions for the exchange interaction ($J_{ij}$), Gaussian and uniform, are used, with zero mean and width $\bar{J}$. The $(kT/\bar{J}) \times Δ_0$ phase diagram is obtained, where $T$ is the temperature, $Δ_0$ is the first moment of the probability distribution for the uniaxial anisotropy, and $k$ is the Boltzmann constant. For the Ising model ($Δ_0=1$), there is …
The ferromagnetic Ising spins are modeled on a recursive lattice constructed from random-angled rhombus units with stochastic configurations, to study the magnetic properties of the bulk Fe-based metallic glass. The integration of spins on the structural glass model well represents the magnetic moments in the glassy metal. The model is exactly solved by the recursive calculation technique. The magnetization of the amorphous Ising spins, i.e. the glassy metallic magnet is investigated by our modeling and calculation on a theoretical base. The results show that the glassy metallic magnets has a …
We use Monte Carlo (MC) methods to simulate a two-dimensional (2D) bond-diluted Ising model on the square lattice which has frustration between the nearest-neighbor interaction J1 and the next-nearest-neighbor interaction J2. In this paper, we use the parallel tempering algorithm to study the thermodynamics for different diluted ratio x and give the phase diagram. The presence of both frustration and disorder results in a spin-glass phase, which exists between the stripe antiferromagnetic phase and the Neel phase. We present the ground-state energy of T -> 0 and the size-dependence of Edwards-…
We investigate the dynamics of soft sphere liquids through computer simulations for spatial dimensions from $d =3$ to $8$, over a wide range of temperatures and densities. Employing a scaling of density-temperature dependent relaxation times, we precisely identify the density $ϕ_0$ which marks the ideal glass transition in the hard sphere limit, and a crossover from sub- to super-Arrhenius temperature dependence. The difference between $ϕ_0$ and the athermal jamming density $ϕ_J$, small in 3 and 4 dimensions, increases with dimension, with $ϕ_0 > ϕ_J$ for $d > 4$. We compare our results with r…
The dynamics of compaction of hard cross-shaped pentamers on the 2D square lattice is investigated. The addition of new particles is controlled by diffusive relaxation. It is shown that the filling process terminates at a glassy phase with a limiting coverage density ρ_{rcp}=0.171626(3), lower than the density of closest packing ρ_{cp}=0.2, and the long time filling rate vanishes like (ρ_{rcp}-ρ(t))^2. For the entire density regime the particles form an amorphous phase, devoid of any crystalline order. Therefore, the model supports a stable random packing state, as opposed to the hard disks sy…
Boundary-induced transport in particle systems with anomalous diffusion exhibits rectification, negative resistance, and hysteresis phenomena depending on the way the drive acts on the boundary. The solvable case of a 1D system characterized by a power-law diffusion coefficient and coupled to two particles reservoirs at different chemical potential is examined. In particular, it is shown that a microscopic realisation of such a diffusion model is provided by a 3D driven lattice-gas with kinetic constraints, in which energy barriers are absent and the local microscopic reversibility holds.
A quasi 2-dimensional recursive lattice formed by planar elements have been designed to investigate the surface thermodynamics of Ising spin glass system with the aim to study the metastability of supercooled liquids and the ideal glass transition. The lattice is constructed as a hybrid of partial Husimi lattice representing the bulk and 1D single bonds representing the surface. The recursive properties of the lattices were adopted to achieve exact calculations. The model has an anti-ferromagnetic interaction to give rise to an ordered phase identified as crystal, and a metastable solution rep…
Two kinds of recursive lattices with the same coordination number but different unit cells (2-D square and 3-D cube) are constructed and the antiferromagnetic Ising model is solved exactly on them to study the stable and metastable states. The Ising model with multi-particle interactions is designed to represent a monatomic system or an alloy. Two solutions of the model exhibit the crystallization of liquid, and the ideal glass transition of supercooled liquid respectively. Based on the solutions, the thermodynamics on both lattices was examined. In particular, the free energy, energy, and ent…
We present a conjecture on the exact location of the multicritical point in the phase diagram of spin glass models in finite dimensions. By generalizing our previous work, we combine duality and gauge symmetry for replicated random systems to derive formulas which make it possible to understand all the relevant available numerical results in a unified way. The method applies to non-self-dual lattices as well as to self dual cases, in the former case of which we derive a relation for a pair of values of multicritical points for mutually dual lattices. The examples include the +-J and Gaussian I…
A new order parameter is constructed for SU(2) lattice gauge theory in the context of the two-real-replica method normally used for spin glasses. The order parameter is sensitive to a global Z2 subgroup of the gauge symmetry which is seen to break spontaneously at $β= 4/g^2 = 1.96\pm 0.01$. No gauge fixing is required. Finite size scaling is consistent with a high-order paramagnet to spin glass transition with a critical exponent $ν= 0.99 \pm 0.13$. The existence of this transition suggests a second transition from spin glass to ferromagnet should exist at higher $β$.
We present a simple lattice model showing a glassy behavior. $R$ matrix analysis predicts critical termination of the super-cooled fluid branch at density $ρ_g=0.1717$. This prediction is confirmed by dynamical numerical simulations, showing power-law divergences of relaxation time $τ_{1/2}$, as well as the 4-susceptibility $χ_4$ peak's location and height exactly at the predicted density. The power-law divergence of $χ_4$ continues up to $χ_4$ as high as $10^4$. Finite-size scaling study reveals divergence of correlation length accompanying the transition.
