SUSY/SUGRA models with naturalness defined via small $μ$ are constrained due to experiment on the relic density and the experimental limits on the WIMP-proton cross-section and WIMP annihilation cross-section from indirect detection experiments. Specifically models with small $μ$ where the neutralino is higgsino-like lead to dark matter relic density below the observed value. In several works this problem is overcome by assuming dark matter to be constituted of more than one component and the neutralino relic density deficit is made up from contributions from other components. In this work we propose that the dark matter consists of just one component, i.e., the lightest neutralino and the relic density of the higgsino-like neutralino receives contributions from the usual freeze-out mechanism along with contributions arising from the decay of hidden sector neutralinos. The model we propose is an extended MSSM model where the hidden sector is constituted of a $U(1)_X$ gauge sector along with matter charged under $U(1)_X$ which produce two neutralinos in the hidden sector. The $U(1)_X$ and the hypercharge $U(1)_Y$ of the MSSM have kinetic and Stueckelberg mass mixing where the mixings are ultraweak. In this case the hidden sector neutralinos have ultraweak interactions with the visible sector. Because of their ultraweak interactions the hidden sector neutralinos are not thermally produced and we assume their initial relic density to be negligible. However, they can be produced via interactions of MSSM particles in the early universe, and once produced they decay to the neutralino. For a range of mixings the decays occur before the BBN producing additional relic density for the neutralino. Models of this type are testable in dark matter direct and indirect detection experiments and at the high luminosity and high energy LHC.
We study how, as a result of the scanning of supersymmetry breaking during the cosmological evolution, a relaxation mechanism can naturally determine a hierarchy between the weak scale and the masses of supersymmetric particles. Supersymmetry breaking is determined by QCD instanton effects, in an extremely minimal setup in which a single field drives the relaxation and breaks supersymmetry. Since gauginos are lighter than the other supersymmetric particles by a one-loop factor, the theory is a realisation of Split Supersymmetry free from the naturalness problem.
The natural supersymmetry (SUSY) requires light stop quarks, light sbottom quark, and gluino to be around one TeV or lighter. The first generation squarks can be effectively large which does not introduce any hierarchy problem in order to escape the constraints from LHC. In this paper we consider a Yukawa deflect medation to realize the effective natural supersymmetry where the interaction between squarks and messenger are made natural under certain Frogget-Nelson $U(1)_X$ charge. The first generation squarks obtain large and postive contribution from the yukawa deflect mediation. The correspo…
This review provides an elementary discussion of electroweak symmetry breaking in the minimal and the next-to-minimal supersymmetric models with the focus on the fine-tuning problem -- the tension between natural electroweak symmetry breaking and the direct search limit on the Higgs boson mass. Two generic solutions of the fine-tuning problem are discussed in detail: models with unusual Higgs decays; and models with unusual pattern of soft supersymmetry breaking parameters.
We investigate constraints from the observed branching ratio for b -> s gamma and fine-tuning in the framework of natural supersymmetry. The natural supersymmetry requires the large trilinear coupling of the stop sector, light higgsinos (a small mu parameter) and light stops, in order to reduce the fine-tuning in the Higgs sector while avoiding the LEP constraint. It is found that in such a scenario 5% (10%) level of fine-tuning is inevitable due to the b -> s gamma constraint even if the messenger scale is as low as 10^5 GeV (10^4 GeV), provided that the gaugino masses satisfy the GUT relatio…
Since baryon number B and lepton number L are no longer automatically conserved once the standard model is extended to include supersymmetry, the usually assumed conservation of R parity is an imposed condition. For a more satisfactory realization of supersymmetry, we propose here a new model which conserves R automatically. It is unifiable under SO(14) and has exotic fermions at the 100 GeV scale. One important result is the enhancement of the Higgs-boson decay rates into two gluons and into two photons by factors of 25 and 15 respectively.
We show how gauged flavour breaking and N = 1 supersymmetry breaking can be dynamically aligned to produce natural models. Supersymmetry is broken in a metastable vacuum, while a weakly gauged flavour symmetry is identified with an SU(3)_F subgroup of the global symmetry of the SQCD model. We find that alignment can easily occur either through strongly coupled flavour models, with SQCD bound states playing the role of flavons, or entirely weakly coupled and renormalizable models with elementary SU(3)_F adjoint flavons. In both cases it is essential that the SU(3)_F breaking, and hence all the …
If the minimal supersymmetric standard model is the solution to the hierarchy problem, the scalar top quark (stop) and the Higgsino should weigh around the electroweak scale such as 200 GeV. A low messenger scale, which results in a light gravitino, is also suggested to suppress the quantum corrections to the Higgs mass parameters. Therefore the minimal model for natural supersymmetry is a system with stop/Higgsino/gravitino whereas other superparticles are heavy. We study the LHC signatures of the minimal system and discuss the discovery potential and methods for the mass measurements.
Models with dynamical supersymmetry breaking have the potential to solve many of the naturalness problems of hidden sector supergravity models. We review the argument that in a generic supergravity theory in which supersymmetry is {\it dynamically} broken in the hidden sector, only tiny Majorana masses for gauginos are generated. This situation is similar to that of theories with continuous R-symmetries, for which Hall and Randall have suggested that gluino masses could arise through mixings with an octet of chiral fields. We note that in hidden sector models, such mixing can only occur if the…
I consider models with non-universal gaugino masses at the gauge coupling unification scale, taking into account the Higgs boson discovery. Viable regions of parameter space are mapped and studied in the case of non-universality following from an F-term in a linear combination of singlet and adjoint representations of SU(5). I consider, in particular, "semi-natural" models that have small μ, with gaugino masses dominating the supersymmetry breaking terms at high energies. Higgsino-like particles are then much lighter than all other superpartners, and the prospects for discovery at the Large Ha…
We quantify the extent to which naturalness is lost as experimental lower bounds on the Higgs boson mass increase, and we compute the natural upper bound on the lightest supersymmetric Higgs boson mass. We find that it would be unnatural for the mass of the lightest supersymmetric Higgs boson to saturate it's maximal upper bound. In the absence of significant fine-tuning, the lightest Higgs boson mass should lie below $120$ GeV, and in the most natural cases it should be lighter than $108$ GeV. For modest $tan β$, these bounds are significantly lower. Our results imply that a failure to observ…
We demonstrate that natural supersymmetry is readily realized in the framework of SU(4)_c \times SU(2)_L \times SU(2)_R with non-universal gaugino masses. Focusing on ameliorating the little hierarchy problem, we explore the parameter space of this model which yields small fine-tuning measuring parameters (natural supersymmetry) at the electroweak scale (Δ_{EW}) as well as at high scale (Δ_{HS}). It is possible to have both Δ_{EW} and Δ_{HS} less than 100 in these models, (2 % or better fine-tuning), while keeping the light CP-even (Standard Model-like) Higgs mass in the 123 GeV-127 GeV range.…
We consider a search strategy for new physics at the Large Hadron Collider which focuses on the signature of many jets and missing transverse energy, but no charged leptons. We show that this signature can be useful in probing a wide class of models, including natural supersymmetry, in which dark matter is produced in conjunction top quarks. As an example, we apply this strategy to a simplified supersymmetric model with a light gluino, light stop and light neutralino. The efficacy of this strategy is comparable to (and in some cases better than) that of other strategies which require charged l…
The axion solution to the strong CP problem makes use of a global Peccei-Quinn (PQ) U(1) symmetry which is susceptible to violations from quantum gravitational effects. We show explicitly how discrete gauge symmetries can protect the axion from such violations. PQ symmetry emerges as an accidental global symmetry from discrete gauge symmetries which are subgroups of the anomalous U(1) of string origin. We also show how the Dine-Fischler-Srednicki-Zhitnitsky (DFSZ) axion model provides a natural solution to mu problem of supersymmetry as mu ~ M_{SUSY} ~ M^2_{PQ}/M_{Pl}.
Weak scale supersymmetry (SUSY) remains a compelling extension of the Standard Model because it stabilizes the quantum corrections to the Higgs and W, Z boson masses. In natural SUSY models these corrections are, by definition, never much larger than the corresponding masses. Natural SUSY models all have an upper limit on the gluino mass, too high to lead to observable signals even at the high luminosity LHC. However, in models with gaugino mass unification, the wino is sufficiently light that supersymmetry discovery is possible in other channels over the entire natural SUSY parameter space wi…
We show that the electroweak fine-tuning parameter Δ_{\rm EW} derived from the well-known electroweak symmetry breaking condition written in terms of weak scale parameters leads to {\it a bound on fine-tuning in the MSSM} and explain its utility for phenomenological analyses. We argue that a small magnitude of the mu parameter, and the concomitant presence of light higgsinos, is the most basic consequence of naturalness in SUSY models, and list the resulting implications of this for experiments at the LHC and at future e^+e^- colliders.
We propose a new minimal supersymmetric scenario with virtually no fine-tuning in the electroweak symmetry breaking. It favors light supersymmetric spectrum below a few TeV and predicts definite relations among stop and gaugino masses and LSP higgsino with $μ\lesssim 200$ GeV, which are within the reach of coming LHC experiment.
We explore unification and natural supersymmetry in a five dimensional extension of the standard model in which the extra dimension may be large, of the order of 1-10 TeV. Power law running generates a TeV scale A_ term allowing for the observed 125 GeV Higgs and allowing for stop masses below 2 TeV, compatible with a natural SUSY spectrum. We supply the full one-loop RGEs for various models and use metastability to give a prediction that the gluino mass should be lighter than 3.5 TeV for A_t <= 2.5 TeV, for such a compactification scale, with brane localised 3rd generation matter. We discuss …
We suggest a natural split mechanism for sfermions based on $N$=2 supersymmetry (SUSY). $N$=2 SUSY protects a sfermion in an $N$=2 multiplet from gaining weight by SUSY breaking. Therefore, if partly $N$=2 SUSY is effectively obtained, a split spectrum can be realized naturally. As an example of the natural split mechanism, we build a gauge-mediated SUSY breaking-like model assuming $N$=2 SUSY is partly broken in a UV theory. The model explains the Higgs boson mass and the muon anomalous magnetic dipole moment within $1~σ$ level with a splitting sfermion spectrum. The model has seven light spa…
Superpartner masses cannot be arbitrarily heavy if supersymmetric extensions of the standard model explain the stability of the gauge hierarchy. This ancient and hallowed motivation for weak scale supersymmetry is often quoted, yet no reliable determination of this upper limit on superpartner masses exists. In this paper we compute upper bounds on superpartner masses in the minimal supersymmetric model, and we identify which values of the superpartner masses correspond to the most natural explanation of the hierarchy stability. We compare the most natural value of these masses and their upper …
Naturalness bounds on weak scale supersymmetry in the context of radiative breaking of the electro-weak symmetry are analyzed. In the case of minimal supergravity it is found that for low tanβand for low values of fine tuning Phi, where Phi is defined essentially by the ratio μ^2/M_Z^2 where μis the Higgs mixing parameter and M_Z is the Z boson mass, the allowed values of the universal scalar parameter m_0, and the universal gaugino mass m_{1/2} lie on the surface of an ellipsoid with radii fixed by Φleading to tightly constrained upper bounds \sim \sqrtΦ.Thus for tanβ\leq 2(\leq 5) it is foun…
New natural supersymmetry is explored in the light of dynamically reduced radiative correction. Unlike in the conventional natural supersymmetry, the range of supersymmetric mass spectrum can be far above the TeV scale instead. For the illustrating model of non-universal gaugino masses, the parameter space which satisfies the Higgs mass and other LHC constraints is shown explicitly. We propose that this example can be realized by employing the no-scale supergravity.
We propose a realistic 5D orbifold GUT model that can reduce to natural (or radiative natural) supersymmetry as the low energy effective theory. Supersymmetry as well as gauge symmetry are broken by the twist boundary conditions. We find that it is non-trivial to introduce other flavor symmetry other than the $SU(2)_R$ R-symmetry. We ameliorate the tension between the small number of free parameters and the successful electroweak symmetry breaking by introducing non-minimal Kahler potentials. A large trilinear term $A_t$, which is necessary to give a 125 GeV Higgs boson, is naturally provided …
Supersymmetric theories in four dimensions with chiral superfields have very rich BRS cohomology, which gives rise to potential anomalies in theories that contain composite antichiral spinor superfields. Assuming the coefficients are non-zero, absence of the anomalies would generate new constraints on theories. In addition, the anomalies give rise to a new kind of supersymmetry breaking which is quite different from the known kinds, and also naturally yields a zero cosmological constant after supersymmetry breaking.
The absence so far of any supersymmetric signals at the LHC pushes towards a rethinking of the assumptions underlying the MSSM. Because the large missing $E_T$ searches are inadequate to detect a LSP decaying within the detector, R-parity violating supersymmetry is still a good candidate for low energy, natural supersymmetry. We show that, in Froggatt-Nielsen-like models of horizontal symmetries, specific textures for the R-parity violating couplings are dictated by the symmetry, with the largest coupling involving the third generation fields. Lepton number can be an accidental symmetry of the…
Weak scale supersymmetric theories often suffer from several naturalness problems: the problems of reproducing the correct scale for electroweak symmetry breaking, the correct abundance for dark matter, and small rates for flavor violating processes. We argue that the first two problems point to particular regions of parameter space in models with weak scale supersymmetry: those with a small mu term. This has an interesting implication on direct dark matter detection experiments. We find that, if the signs of the three gaugino mass parameters are all equal, we can obtain a solid lower bound on…
We discuss electric dipole moments (EDMs) in the framework of CP-violating natural supersymmetry (SUSY). Recent experimental results have significantly tightened constraints on the EDMs of electrons and of mercury, and substantial further progress is expected in the near future. We assess how these results constrain the parameter space of natural SUSY. In addition to our discussion of SUSY, we provide a set of general formulas for two-loop fermion EDMs, which can be applied to a wide range of models of new physics. In the SUSY context, the two-loop effects of stops and charginos respectively c…
The most promising MSSM candidates of the heterotic string reveal some distinctive properties. These include gauge-top unification, a specific solution to the mu-problem and mirage pattern for the gaugino masses. The location of the top- and the Higgs-multiplets in extra dimensions differs significantly from that of the other quarks and leptons leading to a characteristic signature of suppressed soft breaking terms, reminiscent of a scheme known as natural supersymmetry.
The Fermi-Lab Collaboration has announced the results for the measurement of muon anomalous magnetic moment. Combining with the previous results by the BNL experiment, we have $4.2 σ$ deviation from the Standard Model (SM), which strongly implies the new physics around 1 TeV. To explain the muon anomalous magnetic moment naturally, we analyze the corresponding five Feynman diagrams in the Supersymetric SMs (SSMs), and show that the Electroweak Supersymmetry (EWSUSY) is definitely needed. We realize the EWSUSY in the Minimal SSM (MSSM) with Genernalized Mininal Supergravity (GmSUGRA). We find l…
With the aim of linking natural supersymmetry to flavour physics, a model is proposed based on a family symmetry G \times U(1), where G is a discrete nonabelian subgroup of SU(2), with both F-term and (abelian) D-term supersymmetry breaking. A good fit to the fermion masses and mixing is obtained with the same U(1) charges for the left- and right- handed quarks of the first two families and the right-handed bottom quark, and with zero charge for the left-handed top-bottom doublet and the the right handed top. The model shows an interesting indirect correlation between the correct prediction fo…
We point out that a sector required to set the cosmological constant to zero in gauge-mediated supersymmetry-breaking models naturally produces a supersymmetry-invariant mass ($μ$ term) for Higgs doublets of the order of the electroweak scale. Since this new sector preserves the supersymmetry, it does not generate supersymmetry-breaking masses for the Higgs doublets and thus the $μ$ problem is solved.
The naturalness criterion applied to the cosmological constant implies a new-physics threshold at 10^-3 eV. Either the naturalness criterion fails, or this threshold does not influence particle dynamics at higher energies. It has been suggested that the Higgs naturalness problem may follow the same fate. We investigate this possibility and, abandoning the hierarchy problem, we use unification and dark matter as the only guiding principles. The model recently proposed by Arkani-Hamed and Dimopoulos emerges as a very interesting option. We study it in detail, analysing its structure, and the con…
By eschewing finetuning from the electroweak and QCD sectors of supersymmetry (natural supersymmetry or SUSY), and by invoking the Kim-Nilles solution to the SUSY mu problem, one is lead to models wherein the dark matter is comprised of a mixture of axions and higgsino-like WIMPs. Over a large range of Peccei-Quinn breaking scale f_a~ 10^9-10^{12} GeV, one then expects about 90-95% axion dark matter. In such a scenario, both axion and WIMP direct detection may be expected.
We consider 4D weak scale theories arising from 5D supersymmetric (SUSY) theories with maximal Scherk-Schwarz breaking at a Kaluza-Klein (KK) scale of several TeV. Many of the problems of conventional SUSY are avoided. Apart from 3rd family sfermions the SUSY spectrum is heavy, with only ~50% tuning at a gluino mass of ~2TeV and a stop mass of ~650 GeV. A single Higgs doublet acquires a vacuum expectation value, so the physical Higgs is automatically Standard-Model-like. A new U(1)' interaction raises the Higgs mass to 126 GeV. For minimal tuning the associated Z', as well as the 3rd family sf…
Spacetime supersymmetry is widely believed to play an important role in most fundamental theories of physics, and is usually invoked in order to address problems of naturalness. In this paper, we examine the question of whether supersymmetry itself is ``natural'' (i.e., likely to exist as a fundamental component of nature at high energy scales). Our approach to answering this question is based on a statistical examination of the heterotic string landscape, and our conclusion is that supersymmetry is an exceedingly rare phenomenon. We also find that the likelihood of supersymmetry appearing at …
Natural (axionic) inflation provides a well-motivated and predictive scheme for the description of the early universe. It leads to sizeable primordial tensor modes and thus a high mass scale of the inflationary potential. Naively this seems to be at odds with low (TeV) scale supersymmetry, especially when embedded in superstring theory. We show that low scale supersymmetry is compatible with natural (high scale) inflation. The mechanism requires the presence of two axions that are provided through the moduli of string theory.
A vast array of (metastable) vacuum solutions arise from string compactifications, each leading to different 4-d laws of physics. The space of these solutions, known as the string landscape, allows for an environmental solution to the cosmological constant problem. We examine the possibility of an environmental solution to the gauge hierarchy problem. We argue that the landscape favors softly broken supersymmetric models over particle physics models containing quadratic divergences, such as the Standard Model. We present a scheme for computing relative probabilities for supersymmetric models t…
The Higgs mass implies fine-tuning for minimal theories of weak scale supersymmetry (SUSY). Non-decoupling effects can boost the Higgs mass when new states interact with the Higgs, but new sources of SUSY breaking that accompany such extensions threaten naturalness. We show that two singlets with a Dirac mass can increase the Higgs mass while maintaining naturalness in the presence of large SUSY breaking in the singlet sector. We explore the modified Higgs phenomenology of this scenario, which we call the "Dirac NMSSM."
Recent clarifications of naturalness in supersymmetry robustly require the presence of four light higgsinos with mass ~100-300 GeV while gluinos and (top)-squarks may lie in the multi-TeV range, possibly out of LHC reach. We project the high luminosity (300-3000 fb^{-1}) reach of LHC14 via gluino cascade decays and via same-sign diboson production. We compare these to the reach for neutralino pair production \tz_1\tz_2 followed by \tz_2\to\tz_1\ell^+\ell^- decay to soft dileptons which recoil against a hard jet. It appears that 3000 fb^{-1} is just about sufficient integrated luminosity to pro…
The LEP2 experiments pose a serious naturalness problem for supersymmetric models. The problem is stronger in gauge mediation than in supergravity models. Particular scenarios, like electroweak baryogenesis or gauge mediation with light messengers, are strongly disfavoured. Searching a theoretical reason that naturally explains why supersymmetry has not been found poses strong requests on model building. If instead an unlikely (p\approx 5%) numerical accident has hidden supersymmetry to LEP2, we compute the naturalness distribution of values of allowed sparticle masses and supersymmetric loop …
The observed Higgs boson mass and the naturalness argument leave us a narrow window for the soft mass spectrum in natural supersymmetry that can be studied through the electroweak precision tests (EWPTs). We divide the analysis into the Higgs sector constrained by the charged Higgs mass bound, the neutralino-chargino sector constrained by the chargino mass bound, and the third-generation squark sector tightly constrained by the observed Higgs mass. Total contributions to EWPTs in the MSSM and NMSSM are both presented. It turns out that natural MSSM is excluded at 68\% CL but consistent at 95\%…
We propose a simple and natural model of dynamical supersymmetry breaking, which could be used as a mechanism for spontaneous supersymmetry breaking in a gravitationally coupled hidden sector. The gaugino masses in the visible sector are naturally of the same size as the squark, slepton, and gravitino masses.
We show that the hierarchically small mu term in supersymmetric theories is a consequence of two identical pairs of Higgs doublets taking a democratic form for their mass matrix. We briefly discuss the discrete symmetry S2xS2 toward the democratic mass matrix. Then, we show that there results an approximate Peccei-Quinn symmetry and hence the value mu is related to the axion decay constant.
We show that natural supersymmetry can be embedded in a five-dimensional theory with supersymmetry breaking à la Scherk-Schwarz (SS). There is no 'gluino-sucks' problem for stops localized in the four-dimensional brane and gluinos propagating in the full five-dimensional bulk, and sub-TeV stops are easily accommodated. The $μ/ B_μ$ problem is absent as well; the SS breaking generates a Higgsino Dirac mass and no bilinear Higgs mass parameter in the superpotential is required. Moreover, for non-maximal SS twists leading to $\tan β\simeq 1$, the Higgs spectrum is naturally split, in agreement wi…
We present a mechanism that allows a large Higgsino mass without large fine-tuning. The Higgs is a pseudo Nambu-Goldstone boson (PNGB) of the global symmetry breaking pattern $SO(5) \to SO(4)$. Because of the PNGB nature of the light Higgs, the $SO(5)$ invariant Higgsino mass does not directly contribute to the Higgs mass. Large couplings in the Higgs sector that spontaneously breaks $SO(5)$ minimize the tuning, and are also motivated by the requirements of generating a sufficiently large Higgs quartic coupling and of maintaining a natural approximate global $SO(5)$ symmetry. When these condit…
We propose an attractor mechanism which generates the "more minimal" supersymmetric standard model from a broad class of supersymmetry breaking boundary conditions. The hierarchies in the fermion masses and mixings are produced by the same dynamics and a natural weak scale results from gaugino mediation. These features arise from augmenting the standard model with a new SU(3) gauge group under which only the third generation quarks are charged. The theory flows to a strongly interacting fixed point which induces a negative anomalous dimension for the third generation quarks and a positive anom…
We identify the parameter regions of the phenomenological minimal supersymmetric standard model (pMSSM) with the minimal possible fine-tuning. We show that the fine-tuning of the pMSSM is not large, nor under pressure by LHC searches. Low sbottom, stop and gluino masses turn out to be less relevant for low fine-tuning than commonly assumed. We show a link between low fine-tuning and the dark matter relic density. Fine-tuning arguments point to models with a dark matter candidate yielding the correct dark matter relic density: a bino-higgsino particle with a mass of $35-155$ GeV. Some of these …
We consider an SO(10) grand unified theory in which the ratio of the SU(2)_W and SU(3)_c gaugino masses satisfy M_2/M_3 \approx 3, which results in the realization of natural supersymmetry. In the MSSM parameter space this relation looks artificial, but in the SO(10) case it results from a field with a designated vacuum expectation value. We consider two models, namely M_1:M_2:M_3=-1/5:3:1 (Case I), and M_1:M_2:M_3=-5:3:1 (Case II). Focusing on ameliorating the little hierarchy problem, we explore the parameter space of these models which yield small fine-tuning measuring parameters (natural s…
The parameters of the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model appear to require uncomfortably precise adjustment in order to reconcile the electroweak symmetry breaking scale with the lower mass limits on a neutral Higgs scalar boson. This problem can be significantly ameliorated in models with a running gluino mass parameter that is smaller than the wino mass near the scale of unification of gauge couplings. A "compressed" superpartner mass spectrum results; compared to models with unified gaugino masses, the ratios of the squark and gluino masses to the lightest superpartner mass are reduced. …
Since neither supersymmetry nor dark matter WIMPs have yet been observed, pessimism about their reality has been growing. Here we discuss a new supersymmetric theory and a new dark matter candidate which are naturally consistent with current experimental results, but which imply a plethora of new phenomena awaiting discovery within the foreseeable future.
While it is natural for supersymmetric particles to be well within the mass range of the large hadron collider, it is possible that the sparticle masses could be very heavy. Signatures are examined at a very high energy hadron collider and an very high luminosity option for the Large Hadron Collider in such scenarios.

Particle physics models with Natural Supersymmetry are characterized by a superpotential parameter μ\sim m_h \sim125$ GeV, while third generation squarks have mass <0.5-1.5 TeV. Gluinos should be lighter than several TeV so as not to destabilize the lighter squarks. First and second generation sfermions can be at the tens-of-TeV level which yields a decoupling solution to the SUSY flavor and CP problems. Adopting a top-down approach, we delineate the range of GUT scale SUSY model parameters which leads to a Natural SUSY mass spectrum. We find natural SUSY models to be tightly constrained by th…
We explore the possibility of solving the hierarchy problem by combining the paradigms of supersymmetry and compositeness. Both paradigms are under pressure from the results of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), and combining them allows both a higher confinement scale -- due to effective supersymmetry in the low energy theory -- and heavier superpartners -- due to the composite nature of the Higgs boson -- without sacrificing naturalness. The supersymmetric Randall-Sundrum model provides a concrete example where calculations are possible, and we pursue a realistic model in this context. With a …
The breaking of supersymmetry is usually assumed to occur in a hidden sector. Two natural candidates for the supersymmetry breaking transmission from the hidden to the observable sector are gravity and the gauge interactions. Only the second one allows for supersymmetry breaking at low energies. I show how the two candidates deal with the flavor and the $μ$-problem; I also briefly comment on the doublet-triplet and dark matter problem.
In the context of supersymmetry, the two-loop Barr-Zee diagrams which induce CP-violating electric dipole moment of electron due to superpartners simultaneously yield CP-conserving magnetic dipole moment of muon. In this paper, we derive the coherence between the electric and magnetic dipole moments at two-loop level due to stops, charginos or neutralinos-charginos. We also use the coherence to constrain superpartner masses and their CP-violating phases, in the light of recent ACME limit on the electric dipole moment of electron and future experiments about magnetic dipole moment of muon such …
Previous work on t-b-τYukawa-unified supersymmetry, as expected from SUSY GUT theories based on the gauge group SO(10), tended to have exceedingly large electroweak fine-tuning (EWFT). Here, we examine supersymmetric models where we simultaneously require low EWFT ("natural SUSY") and a high degree of Yukawa coupling unification, along with a light Higgs scalar with m_h\sim125 GeV. As Yukawa unification requires large tanβ\sim50, while EWFT requires rather light third generation squarks and low μ\sim100-250 GeV, B-physics constraints from BR(B\to X_sγ) and BR(B_s\to μ+μ-) can be severe. We are…
We examine the prospects for detecting light charged higgsinos that are expected to be a necessary feature of natural SUSY models via $pp\to {\widetilde W}^\pm{\widetilde W}_1^\pm jj+X$ processes arising dominantly from $W^\pm W^\pm$ fusion at LHC13. The signal will be a pair of same-sign leptons ($e$ or $μ$) in events with two relatively forward, hemispherically-separated jets with a large rapidity gap. We find that even though the higgsinos have a full-strength $SU(2)$ gauge couplings to $W$-bosons, the LHC13 cross section for the production of same sign higgsino pairs is smaller than 0.02 f…
