We consider an SO(10) grand unified theory in which the ratio of the SU(2)_W and SU(3)_c gaugino masses satisfy M_2/M_3 \approx 3, which results in the realization of natural supersymmetry. In the MSSM parameter space this relation looks artificial, but in the SO(10) case it results from a field with a designated vacuum expectation value. We consider two models, namely M_1:M_2:M_3=-1/5:3:1 (Case I), and M_1:M_2:M_3=-5:3:1 (Case II). Focusing on ameliorating the little hierarchy problem, we explore the parameter space of these models which yield small fine-tuning measuring parameters (natural supersymmetry) at the electroweak scale (Δ_{EW}) as well as at the high scale (Δ_{HS}). Although both models allow for the solution of the little hierarchy problem, the predicted sparticle spectra can differ markedly in the two cases. Depending on the ratio of the bino mass to the other gaugino masses, Case I leads to stau lepton masses of around a 100 GeV, while in Case II, the stau slepton masses are in the several TeV range. In Case I, the bino-like neutralino can be as light as 90 GeV, while the gluino is heavier than 2 TeV or so. In Case II, due to gluino-bino near degeneracy, the bino cannot be lighter than a TeV or so. Having a light neutralino with sizable bino-higgsino mixture in Case I allows the direct dark matter search experiments to test this class of models.
We point out that there is a parameter region in supersymmetry with heavy scalars and higgsinos, in which the heavier of bino and wino becomes long-lived as a consequence of the heavy higgsinos. In this region these electroweak gaugino sectors are secluded from each other with very small mixings that are inversely proportional to the higgsino mass. We revisit the bino and bino decays and provide simple formulae for the partial decay rates and the lifetimes in the limit of heavy higgsinos. We discuss the collider signatures of the long-lived binos and winos in this scenario.
The strong constraints on the R-parity conserving supersymmetry (SUSY) from the LHC searches motivate us to consider the new models in which the low-scale SUSY is still allowed. We propose a kind of R-parity violating SUSY scenarios with a non-zero $U^c_2 D^c_2 D^c_3$ operator. Three relevant LHC searches are recasted to test the status of this scenario in terms of four simplified models, with either light stop-Bino, stop-Higgsino, sbottom-Bino or sbottom-Higgsino. Some difficult scenarios for the LHC SUSY searches in these simplified models are identified. By extrapolate the current LHC searc…
We present some R-parity conserving supersymmetric models which can accommodate the 3.5 keV X-ray line reported in recent spectral studies of the Perseus galaxy cluster and the Andromeda galaxy. Within the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM) framework, the dark matter (DM) gravitino (or the axino) with mass of around 7 keV decays into a massless neutralino (bino) and a photon with lifetime ~10^{28} sec. The massless bino contributes to the effective number of neutrino species N_eff and future data will test this prediction. In the context of NMSSM, we first consider scenarios where th…
We report that models of electroweak supersymmetry with gaugino mass unification and sequestered scalar masses can still produce viable spectra, as long as we include a set of non-standard supersymmetry breaking terms, which are trilinear in scalars like the A-terms, but are non-holomorphic in visible sector fields unlike the A- terms. These terms impart a subtle feature to one loop renormalisation group equations of soft supersymmetry breaking terms, indirectly sourcing flavor universal contributions to all scalar masses. These new contributions can even dominate over radiative corrections fo…
In a supersymmetry model with an axino as the lightest supersymmetric particle (LSP) and a Bino as the next LSP (NLSP), supersymmetry particles produced in pair at a high energy collider end up with including two Binos, followed by each Bino's decay into a photon and an axino. Final states are diphoton with large missing energy. We have comprehensively studied the implication of $γγ+$MET data from the ALEPH, CDF II, and recent ATLAS and CMS experiments. No excess over the standard model backgrounds can be explained in this model if the NLSP Bino decays outside the detector, which happens when …
For non-universal gaugino masses, collider experiments do not provide any lower bound on the mass of the lightest neutralino. We review the supersymmetric parameter space which leads to light neutralinos, $M_\lsp \lsim {\cal O}(1\gev)$, and find that such neutralinos are almost pure bino. In light of this, we examine the neutralino lower mass bound obtained from supernova 1987A (SN1987A). We consider the production of binos in both electron-positron annihilation and nucleon-nucleon binostrahlung. For electron-positron annihilation, we take into account the radial and temporal dependence of the…
Without any shred of evidence for new physics from LHC, the last hiding spots of natural electroweak supersymmetry seem to lie either in compressed spectra or in spectra where scalars are suppressed with respect to the gauginos. While in the MSSM (or in any theory where supersymmetry is broken by the $F$-vev of a chiral spurion), a hierarchy between scalar and gaugino masses requires special constructions, it is automatic in scenarios where supersymmetry is broken by $D$-vev of a real spurion. In the latter framework, gaugino mediated contributions to scalar soft masses are finite (loop suppre…
Top squark-mediated annihilation of bino-like neutralinos to top-antitop pairs can play the dominant role in obtaining a thermal relic dark matter abundance in agreement with observations. In a previous paper, it was argued that this can occur naturally in models of compressed supersymmetry, which feature a running gluino mass parameter that is substantially smaller than the wino mass parameter at the scale of apparent gauge coupling unification. Here I study in some more detail the parameter space in which this is viable, and compare to other scenarios for obtaining the observed dark matter d…
We study how, as a result of the scanning of supersymmetry breaking during the cosmological evolution, a relaxation mechanism can naturally determine a hierarchy between the weak scale and the masses of supersymmetric particles. Supersymmetry breaking is determined by QCD instanton effects, in an extremely minimal setup in which a single field drives the relaxation and breaks supersymmetry. Since gauginos are lighter than the other supersymmetric particles by a one-loop factor, the theory is a realisation of Split Supersymmetry free from the naturalness problem.
Anomaly mediated supersymmetry breaking (AMSB), when implemented in MSSM is known to suffer from the problem of negative slepton mass squared leading to breakdown of electric charge conservation. We show however that when MSSM is extended to explain small neutrino masses by including a pair of superheavy Higgs triplet superfields (the type II seesaw mechanism), the slepton masses can be deflected from the pure AMSB trajectory and become positive. In a simple model we present in this paper, the seesaw scale is about $10^{13}-10^{14}{\rm GeV}$. Gauge coupling unification can be maintained by emb…
The current measurement of the Higgs mass, the ubiquitous nature of loop-suppressed gaugino masses in gravity-mediated supersymmetry breaking, relic dark matter density from $\sim$ TeV mass gauginos, together with the success of supersymmetric gauge coupling unification, suggest that scalar superpartner masses are roughly $m_{sc} \sim$ 100-1000 TeV. Higgsino masses, if not at the Planck scale, should generically appear at the same scale. The gaugino mass contributions from anomaly mediation, with the heavy Higgsino threshold, generally leads to a more compressed spectrum than standard anomaly …
We study gauge mediation of supersymmetry breaking in SU(5) supersymmetric grand unified theory with gauge fields as messengers. The generated soft supersymmetry breaking parameters lead to close to maximal mixing scenario for the Higgs mass and highly reduce the fine tuning of electroweak symmetry breaking. All gaugino, squark and slepton masses are determined by one parameter -- the supersymmetry breaking scale. The characteristic features are: negative and non-universal squark and slepton masses squared at the unification scale, non-universal gaugino masses, and sizable soft-trilinear coupl…
We consider the bounds imposed by naturalness on the masses of superpartners for arbitrary points in nonminimal supersymmetric extensions of the standard model and for arbitrary messenger scales. This constitutes a significant generalization of previous work along these lines. We discuss appropriate measures of naturalness and the status of nonminimal supersymmetry in the light of recent experimental results.
We introduce a new model of supersymmetry breaking dominated by anomaly mediation. It has a viable spectrum, successful electroweak symmetry breaking, solves the mu-problem and maintains the anomaly-mediated form for soft-masses down to low energies thus solving the flavor problem. The model consists of the minimal supersymmetric standard model plus a singlet, anomaly-mediated soft masses and a dirac mass which marries the bino to the singlet. We describe a large class of models in the UV which can produce such boundary conditions. The dirac mass does not affect the so-called "UV insensitivity…
In some models of thermal relic dark matter, the relic abundance may be set by inelastic scattering processes (rather than annihilations) becoming inefficient as the universe cools down. This effect has been called coscattering. We present a procedure to numerically solve the full momentum-dependent Boltzmann equations in coscattering, which allows for a precise calculation of the dark matter relic density including the effects of early kinetic decoupling. We apply our method to a simple model, containing a fermionic SU(2) triplet and a fermionic singlet with electroweak-scale masses, at small…
In the context of split supersymmetry, the gaugino mass spectrum seems to be very important to satisfy the dark matter content of the universe and the gauge coupling unification. In this paper, we have considered various sources of gaugino masses in the context of unified models. We show that the gaugino mass spectrum varies in different unification pictures. In the context of SU(5), we have found that the Bino/Wino mass ratio can be close to one at the weak scale which is helpful to satisfy the WMAP data. The gluino/Wino mass ratio is also different from the usual scenario of unified gaugino …
The natural supersymmetry (SUSY) requires light stop quarks, light sbottom quark, and gluino to be around one TeV or lighter. The first generation squarks can be effectively large which does not introduce any hierarchy problem in order to escape the constraints from LHC. In this paper we consider a Yukawa deflect medation to realize the effective natural supersymmetry where the interaction between squarks and messenger are made natural under certain Frogget-Nelson $U(1)_X$ charge. The first generation squarks obtain large and postive contribution from the yukawa deflect mediation. The correspo…
Global fit studies performed in the pMSSM and the photon excess signal originating from the Galactic Center seem to suggest compressed electroweak supersymmetric spectra with a $\sim$100 GeV bino-like dark matter particle. We find that these scenarios are not probed by traditional electroweak supersymmetry searches at the LHC. We propose to extend the ATLAS and CMS electroweak supersymmetry searches with an improved strategy for bino-like dark matter, focusing on chargino plus next-to-lightest neutralino production, with a subsequent decay into a tri-lepton final state. We explore the sensitiv…
This review provides an elementary discussion of electroweak symmetry breaking in the minimal and the next-to-minimal supersymmetric models with the focus on the fine-tuning problem -- the tension between natural electroweak symmetry breaking and the direct search limit on the Higgs boson mass. Two generic solutions of the fine-tuning problem are discussed in detail: models with unusual Higgs decays; and models with unusual pattern of soft supersymmetry breaking parameters.
Given the recent progress in dark matter direction detection experiments, we examine a light bino-higgsino dark matter (DM) scenario ($M_1<100$ GeV and $μ<300$ GeV) in natural supersymmetry with the electroweak fine tuning measure $Δ_{EW}<30$. By imposing various constraints, we note that: (i) For $sign(μ/M_1)=+1$, the parameter space allowed by the DM relic density and collider bounds can almost be excluded by the very recent spin-independent (SI) scattering cross section limits from the XENON1T (2017) experiment. (ii) For $sign(μ/M_1)=-1$, the SI limits can be evaded due to the cancelation e…
We investigate constraints from the observed branching ratio for b -> s gamma and fine-tuning in the framework of natural supersymmetry. The natural supersymmetry requires the large trilinear coupling of the stop sector, light higgsinos (a small mu parameter) and light stops, in order to reduce the fine-tuning in the Higgs sector while avoiding the LEP constraint. It is found that in such a scenario 5% (10%) level of fine-tuning is inevitable due to the b -> s gamma constraint even if the messenger scale is as low as 10^5 GeV (10^4 GeV), provided that the gaugino masses satisfy the GUT relatio…
We demonstrate here that the mini-split version of the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM) including R-parity violating couplings naturally provides all the necessary ingredients for a novel baryogenesis mechanism. The baryogenesis is triggered by the late decay of a TeV scale bino after its thermal freezeout. A μ-term larger than the sfermion masses is necessary for obtaining sufficient baryon asymmetry. Two example models of direct baryogenesis and leptogenesis are proposed, with viable parameter spaces presented. The cosmological conditions for the models--in particular, the requir…
Since baryon number B and lepton number L are no longer automatically conserved once the standard model is extended to include supersymmetry, the usually assumed conservation of R parity is an imposed condition. For a more satisfactory realization of supersymmetry, we propose here a new model which conserves R automatically. It is unifiable under SO(14) and has exotic fermions at the 100 GeV scale. One important result is the enhancement of the Higgs-boson decay rates into two gluons and into two photons by factors of 25 and 15 respectively.
We show how gauged flavour breaking and N = 1 supersymmetry breaking can be dynamically aligned to produce natural models. Supersymmetry is broken in a metastable vacuum, while a weakly gauged flavour symmetry is identified with an SU(3)_F subgroup of the global symmetry of the SQCD model. We find that alignment can easily occur either through strongly coupled flavour models, with SQCD bound states playing the role of flavons, or entirely weakly coupled and renormalizable models with elementary SU(3)_F adjoint flavons. In both cases it is essential that the SU(3)_F breaking, and hence all the …
If the minimal supersymmetric standard model is the solution to the hierarchy problem, the scalar top quark (stop) and the Higgsino should weigh around the electroweak scale such as 200 GeV. A low messenger scale, which results in a light gravitino, is also suggested to suppress the quantum corrections to the Higgs mass parameters. Therefore the minimal model for natural supersymmetry is a system with stop/Higgsino/gravitino whereas other superparticles are heavy. We study the LHC signatures of the minimal system and discuss the discovery potential and methods for the mass measurements.
Recent measurements by Planck, LHC experiments, and Xenon100 have significant impact on supersymmetric models and their parameters. We first illustrate the constraints in the mSUGRA plane and then perform a detailed analysis of the general MSSM with 13 free parameters. Using SFitter, Bayesian and Profile Likelihood approaches are applied and their results compared. The allowed structures in the parameter spaces are largely defined by different mechanisms of dark matter annihilation in combination with the light Higgs mass prediction. In mSUGRA the pseudoscalar Higgs funnel and stau co-annihila…
We study bino-wino coannihilation scenario in the so-called spread or mini-split supersymmetry. We show that, in this model, a neutral wino has a macroscopic decay length in a wide range of parameter space. This characteristic feature could be observed as a displaced vertex plus missing transverse energy event at the LHC. In this paper, we study the current constraints and future prospects on the scenario based on the displaced vertex search performed by the ATLAS collaboration. It is found that a sizable parameter region can be probed at the 8 TeV LHC run. This search strategy will considerab…
In natural SUSY models higgsinos are always light because μ^2 cannot be much larger than M_Z^2, while squarks and gluinos may be very heavy. Unless gluinos are discovered at LHC13, the commonly assumed unification of gaugino mass parameters will imply correspondingly heavy winos and binos, resulting in a higgsino-like LSP and small inter-higgsino mass splittings. The small visible energy release in higgsino decays makes their pair production difficult to detect at the LHC. Relaxing gaugino mass universality allows for relatively light winos and binos without violating LHC gluino mass bounds an…
We revisit the possibility of "visible sector" SUSY models: models which are straightforward renormalizable extensions of the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM), where SUSY is broken at tree level. Models of this type were abandoned twenty years ago due to phenomenological problems, which we review. We then demonstrate that it is possible to construct simple phenomenologically viable visible sector SUSY models. Such models are indeed very constrained, and have some inelegant features. They also have interesting and distinctive phenomenology. Our models predict light gauginos and very…
Models with dynamical supersymmetry breaking have the potential to solve many of the naturalness problems of hidden sector supergravity models. We review the argument that in a generic supergravity theory in which supersymmetry is {\it dynamically} broken in the hidden sector, only tiny Majorana masses for gauginos are generated. This situation is similar to that of theories with continuous R-symmetries, for which Hall and Randall have suggested that gluino masses could arise through mixings with an octet of chiral fields. We note that in hidden sector models, such mixing can only occur if the…
I consider models with non-universal gaugino masses at the gauge coupling unification scale, taking into account the Higgs boson discovery. Viable regions of parameter space are mapped and studied in the case of non-universality following from an F-term in a linear combination of singlet and adjoint representations of SU(5). I consider, in particular, "semi-natural" models that have small μ, with gaugino masses dominating the supersymmetry breaking terms at high energies. Higgsino-like particles are then much lighter than all other superpartners, and the prospects for discovery at the Large Ha…
We show how splitting supersymmetry reconciles a class of intersecting brane models with unification. The gauge sector in these models arises in multiplets of extended supersymmetry while matter states are in N=1 representations. A deformation of the angles between the branes gives large masses to squarks and sleptons, as well as supersymmetry breaking contributions to other string states. The latter generate at one-loop heavy Dirac masses for Winos and gluinos and can induce a mass term for the Higgsino doublets. We find that this scenario is compatible with gauge coupling unification at high…
We quantify the extent to which naturalness is lost as experimental lower bounds on the Higgs boson mass increase, and we compute the natural upper bound on the lightest supersymmetric Higgs boson mass. We find that it would be unnatural for the mass of the lightest supersymmetric Higgs boson to saturate it's maximal upper bound. In the absence of significant fine-tuning, the lightest Higgs boson mass should lie below $120$ GeV, and in the most natural cases it should be lighter than $108$ GeV. For modest $tan β$, these bounds are significantly lower. Our results imply that a failure to observ…
We demonstrate that natural supersymmetry is readily realized in the framework of SU(4)_c \times SU(2)_L \times SU(2)_R with non-universal gaugino masses. Focusing on ameliorating the little hierarchy problem, we explore the parameter space of this model which yields small fine-tuning measuring parameters (natural supersymmetry) at the electroweak scale (Δ_{EW}) as well as at high scale (Δ_{HS}). It is possible to have both Δ_{EW} and Δ_{HS} less than 100 in these models, (2 % or better fine-tuning), while keeping the light CP-even (Standard Model-like) Higgs mass in the 123 GeV-127 GeV range.…
We identify the parameter regions of the phenomenological minimal supersymmetric standard model (pMSSM) with the minimal possible fine-tuning. We show that the fine-tuning of the pMSSM is not large, nor under pressure by LHC searches. Low sbottom, stop and gluino masses turn out to be less relevant for low fine-tuning than commonly assumed. We show a link between low fine-tuning and the dark matter relic density. Fine-tuning arguments point to models with a dark matter candidate yielding the correct dark matter relic density: a bino-higgsino particle with a mass of $35-155$ GeV. Some of these …
We consider a search strategy for new physics at the Large Hadron Collider which focuses on the signature of many jets and missing transverse energy, but no charged leptons. We show that this signature can be useful in probing a wide class of models, including natural supersymmetry, in which dark matter is produced in conjunction top quarks. As an example, we apply this strategy to a simplified supersymmetric model with a light gluino, light stop and light neutralino. The efficacy of this strategy is comparable to (and in some cases better than) that of other strategies which require charged l…
The axion solution to the strong CP problem makes use of a global Peccei-Quinn (PQ) U(1) symmetry which is susceptible to violations from quantum gravitational effects. We show explicitly how discrete gauge symmetries can protect the axion from such violations. PQ symmetry emerges as an accidental global symmetry from discrete gauge symmetries which are subgroups of the anomalous U(1) of string origin. We also show how the Dine-Fischler-Srednicki-Zhitnitsky (DFSZ) axion model provides a natural solution to mu problem of supersymmetry as mu ~ M_{SUSY} ~ M^2_{PQ}/M_{Pl}.
Weak scale supersymmetry (SUSY) remains a compelling extension of the Standard Model because it stabilizes the quantum corrections to the Higgs and W, Z boson masses. In natural SUSY models these corrections are, by definition, never much larger than the corresponding masses. Natural SUSY models all have an upper limit on the gluino mass, too high to lead to observable signals even at the high luminosity LHC. However, in models with gaugino mass unification, the wino is sufficiently light that supersymmetry discovery is possible in other channels over the entire natural SUSY parameter space wi…
We show that the electroweak fine-tuning parameter Δ_{\rm EW} derived from the well-known electroweak symmetry breaking condition written in terms of weak scale parameters leads to {\it a bound on fine-tuning in the MSSM} and explain its utility for phenomenological analyses. We argue that a small magnitude of the mu parameter, and the concomitant presence of light higgsinos, is the most basic consequence of naturalness in SUSY models, and list the resulting implications of this for experiments at the LHC and at future e^+e^- colliders.
We propose a new minimal supersymmetric scenario with virtually no fine-tuning in the electroweak symmetry breaking. It favors light supersymmetric spectrum below a few TeV and predicts definite relations among stop and gaugino masses and LSP higgsino with $μ\lesssim 200$ GeV, which are within the reach of coming LHC experiment.
We explore unification and natural supersymmetry in a five dimensional extension of the standard model in which the extra dimension may be large, of the order of 1-10 TeV. Power law running generates a TeV scale A_ term allowing for the observed 125 GeV Higgs and allowing for stop masses below 2 TeV, compatible with a natural SUSY spectrum. We supply the full one-loop RGEs for various models and use metastability to give a prediction that the gluino mass should be lighter than 3.5 TeV for A_t <= 2.5 TeV, for such a compactification scale, with brane localised 3rd generation matter. We discuss …
The parameters of the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model appear to require uncomfortably precise adjustment in order to reconcile the electroweak symmetry breaking scale with the lower mass limits on a neutral Higgs scalar boson. This problem can be significantly ameliorated in models with a running gluino mass parameter that is smaller than the wino mass near the scale of unification of gauge couplings. A "compressed" superpartner mass spectrum results; compared to models with unified gaugino masses, the ratios of the squark and gluino masses to the lightest superpartner mass are reduced. …
We suggest a natural split mechanism for sfermions based on $N$=2 supersymmetry (SUSY). $N$=2 SUSY protects a sfermion in an $N$=2 multiplet from gaining weight by SUSY breaking. Therefore, if partly $N$=2 SUSY is effectively obtained, a split spectrum can be realized naturally. As an example of the natural split mechanism, we build a gauge-mediated SUSY breaking-like model assuming $N$=2 SUSY is partly broken in a UV theory. The model explains the Higgs boson mass and the muon anomalous magnetic dipole moment within $1~σ$ level with a splitting sfermion spectrum. The model has seven light spa…
Superpartner masses cannot be arbitrarily heavy if supersymmetric extensions of the standard model explain the stability of the gauge hierarchy. This ancient and hallowed motivation for weak scale supersymmetry is often quoted, yet no reliable determination of this upper limit on superpartner masses exists. In this paper we compute upper bounds on superpartner masses in the minimal supersymmetric model, and we identify which values of the superpartner masses correspond to the most natural explanation of the hierarchy stability. We compare the most natural value of these masses and their upper …
Even if the concerns related to the naturalness of the electroweak scale are repressed, the Higgs mass and stability of the electroweak vacuum do not allow arbitrarily large supersymmetry breaking scale, $M_S$, in the minimal models with split or high-scale supersymmetry. We show that $M_S$ can be raised to the GUT scale if the theory below $M_S$ contains a Higgs doublet, a pair of TeV scale Higgsino and widely separated gauginos in addition to the Standard Model particles. The presence of wino and gluino below ${\cal O}(100)$ TeV leads to precision unification of the gauge couplings consisten…
Naturalness bounds on weak scale supersymmetry in the context of radiative breaking of the electro-weak symmetry are analyzed. In the case of minimal supergravity it is found that for low tanβand for low values of fine tuning Phi, where Phi is defined essentially by the ratio μ^2/M_Z^2 where μis the Higgs mixing parameter and M_Z is the Z boson mass, the allowed values of the universal scalar parameter m_0, and the universal gaugino mass m_{1/2} lie on the surface of an ellipsoid with radii fixed by Φleading to tightly constrained upper bounds \sim \sqrtΦ.Thus for tanβ\leq 2(\leq 5) it is foun…
Natural models of supersymmetry with a gravitino LSP provide distinctive signatures at the LHC. For a neutralino NLSP, sparticles can decay to two high energy photons plus missing energy. We use the ATLAS diphoton search with 4.8 fb^{-1} of data to place limits in both the stop-gluino and neutralino-chargino mass planes for this scenario. If the neutralino is heavier than 50 GeV, the lightest stop must be heavier than 580 GeV, the gluino heavier than 1100 GeV and charginos must be heavier than approximately 300-470 GeV. This provides the first nontrivial constraints in natural gauge mediation …
We propose a realistic 5D orbifold GUT model that can reduce to natural (or radiative natural) supersymmetry as the low energy effective theory. Supersymmetry as well as gauge symmetry are broken by the twist boundary conditions. We find that it is non-trivial to introduce other flavor symmetry other than the $SU(2)_R$ R-symmetry. We ameliorate the tension between the small number of free parameters and the successful electroweak symmetry breaking by introducing non-minimal Kahler potentials. A large trilinear term $A_t$, which is necessary to give a 125 GeV Higgs boson, is naturally provided …
The absence so far of any supersymmetric signals at the LHC pushes towards a rethinking of the assumptions underlying the MSSM. Because the large missing $E_T$ searches are inadequate to detect a LSP decaying within the detector, R-parity violating supersymmetry is still a good candidate for low energy, natural supersymmetry. We show that, in Froggatt-Nielsen-like models of horizontal symmetries, specific textures for the R-parity violating couplings are dictated by the symmetry, with the largest coupling involving the third generation fields. Lepton number can be an accidental symmetry of the…
We consider certain naturalness questions in supersymmetric theories. Various suggestions which give rise to squark degeneracies are reviewed. A stringy scenario, discussed by Kaplunovsky and Louis, is the only one which leads to complete degeneracy of squarks and sleptons at the high scale. Alternatives include the possible existence of a gauged non-Abelian horizontal symmetry, broken at some scale, and theories in which the ``messengers" of supersymmetry breaking are gauge interactions. A model of the latter type is described, in which supersymmetry is {\it dynamically} broken at TeV energie…
We discuss electric dipole moments (EDMs) in the framework of CP-violating natural supersymmetry (SUSY). Recent experimental results have significantly tightened constraints on the EDMs of electrons and of mercury, and substantial further progress is expected in the near future. We assess how these results constrain the parameter space of natural SUSY. In addition to our discussion of SUSY, we provide a set of general formulas for two-loop fermion EDMs, which can be applied to a wide range of models of new physics. In the SUSY context, the two-loop effects of stops and charginos respectively c…
We consider dynamical models of supersymmetry breaking which naturally incorporate cosmological inflation. The inflaton plays an inevitable role in dynamical SUSY breaking and the hierarchical scales of inflation and SUSY breaking are simultaneously realized through a single dynamics.
New natural supersymmetry is explored in the light of dynamically reduced radiative correction. Unlike in the conventional natural supersymmetry, the range of supersymmetric mass spectrum can be far above the TeV scale instead. For the illustrating model of non-universal gaugino masses, the parameter space which satisfies the Higgs mass and other LHC constraints is shown explicitly. We propose that this example can be realized by employing the no-scale supergravity.
The Fermi-Lab Collaboration has announced the results for the measurement of muon anomalous magnetic moment. Combining with the previous results by the BNL experiment, we have $4.2 σ$ deviation from the Standard Model (SM), which strongly implies the new physics around 1 TeV. To explain the muon anomalous magnetic moment naturally, we analyze the corresponding five Feynman diagrams in the Supersymetric SMs (SSMs), and show that the Electroweak Supersymmetry (EWSUSY) is definitely needed. We realize the EWSUSY in the Minimal SSM (MSSM) with Genernalized Mininal Supergravity (GmSUGRA). We find l…
With the aim of linking natural supersymmetry to flavour physics, a model is proposed based on a family symmetry G \times U(1), where G is a discrete nonabelian subgroup of SU(2), with both F-term and (abelian) D-term supersymmetry breaking. A good fit to the fermion masses and mixing is obtained with the same U(1) charges for the left- and right- handed quarks of the first two families and the right-handed bottom quark, and with zero charge for the left-handed top-bottom doublet and the the right handed top. The model shows an interesting indirect correlation between the correct prediction fo…
We study the breaking of supersymmetry in models with anomalous U(1). These models are simple to construct and contain natural candidates for being the messengers of gauge-mediated supersymmetry breaking. When some of the ordinary matter fields transform under the anomalous U(1), we find a hybrid scenario in which the U(1) and the gauge interactions mediate the breaking of supersymmetry. This leads to a hierarchy of soft masses between the charged and neutral fields and provides a solution to the $μ$-problem. Among these models, we present a scenario in which the Higgs arises as a pseudo-Golds…
