We investigate entanglement dynamics for two atoms coupling with fluctuating electromagnetic field in the cosmic string spacetime. We calculate the entanglement for different conditions. It is found that the entanglement behaviors are dependent on vacuum fluctuation, spacetime topology, two-atom separation and atomic polarization orientation. After a long time of evolution, entanglement would vanish, which means entanglement affected by electromagnetic fluctuation can not maintain for a long time. For different spacetime topologies, entanglement presents different behaviors dependent on various parameters. When deficit angle parameter $ν=1$ and atom-string distance is towards infinity, the results in flat spacetime are recovered. When atoms keep close to the string, entanglement can be improved; specially, when two atoms locate on the string and have no polarization of axial direction, atoms are not affected by the electromagnetic fluctuation and entanglement can remain unchanged. When two-atom separation is relatively large, entanglement exhibits oscillation behavior as atom-string distance varies. This indicates that the existence of string profoundly modifies on the vacuum fluctuation and atom-field interaction. In addition, when two-atom separation is small, entanglement gains better improvement. Many parameters and conditions provide us with greater freedom to control the entanglement behaviors. In principle, this is useful to sense the cosmic string spacetime topology structure and property, and discriminate different kinds of spacetime.
Another way to evaluate the spectral-correlation properties of thermal fields of solids is suggested. Such a method takes into account detailed structure of the interface transition layer separating one bulk region from those of the vacuum region. The principal element here is the surface linear response function of an arbitrary inhomogeneous electron subsystem of solids. Along with straightforward using the known response functions, for example in a hydrodynamic approach, the suggested method allows calculating the response functions self-consistently based on the time dependent density funct…
Casimir entropy is an important aspect of casimir effect. In this paper,we employ the path integral method to derive the total relation for casimir entropy and internal energy of arbitrary shaped objects in the presence of two, three and four dimensions scalar fields and electromagnetic field. We obtain the casimir entropy and internal energy of two nanoribbon immersed in scalar field and two nanospheres immersed in scalar field and electromagnetic field. The casmir entropy of two nanospheres immersed in the electromagnetic field in small interval of temperature variations, shown a different behavi…
In open quantum systems, we study the quantum Fisher information of acceleration for a uniformly accelerated two-level atom coupled to fluctuating electromagnetic fields in the Minkowski vacuum. With the time evolution, for the initial atom state parameter $θ\neqπ$, the quantum Fisher information can exist a maximum value and a local minimum value before reaching a stable value. In addition, in a short time, the quantum Fisher information varies with the initial state parameter, and the quantum Fisher information can take a maximum value at $θ=0$. The quantum Fisher information may exist two p…
Electromagnetic waves propagation on either rotating or anisotropic spacetime backgrounds (such as Kerr and Gödel metrics, or Bianchi-I metric) produce a reduction of the magnitude of Casimir forces between plates. These curved spacetimes behave as chiral or birefringent materials producing dispersion of electromagnetic waves, in such a way that right- and left-circularly polarized light waves propagate with different phase velocities. Results are explicitly calculated for discussed cases. The difference on the wavevectors of the two polarized electromagnetic waves produces an abatement of a C…
Simultaneity is a well-defined notion in special relativity once a Minkowski metric structure is fixed on the spacetime continuum (manifold) of events. In quantum gravity, however, the metric is not expected to be a fixed, classical structure, but a fluctuating quantum operator which may assume a coherent superposition of two classically-distinguishable values. A natural question to ask is what happens to the notion of simultaneity and synchronization when the metric is in a quantum superposition. Here we show that the resource of distributed entanglement of the same kind as used by Jozsa et a…
Recently, Bennett et al. [Eur. J. Phys. 37:014001, 2016] presented a physically-motivated and explicitly gauge-independent scheme for the quantisation of the electromagnetic field in flat Minkowski space. In this paper we generalise this field quantisation scheme to curved spacetimes. Working within the standard assumptions of quantum field theory and only postulating the physicality of the photon, we derive the Hamiltonian, H, and the electric and magnetic field observables, E and B, without having to invoke a specific gauge. As an example, we quantise the electromagnetic field in the spaceti…
Dipoles interference is studied when atomic systems are coupled to classical electromagnetic fields. The interaction between the dipoles and the classical fields induces a time-varying Aharonov-Casher phase. Averaging over the phase generates a suppression of fringe visibility in the interference pattern. We show that, for suitable experimental conditions, the loss of contrast for dipoles can be observable and almost as large as the corresponding one for coherent electrons. We analyze different trajectories in order to show the dependence of the decoherence factor with the velocity of the part…
Kerr-Schild (KS) geometry is based on a congruence of twistor null lines which forms a holographic space-time determined by the Kerr theorem. We describe in details integration of the non-stationary Debney-Kerr-Schild equations for electromagnetic excitations of black-holes taking into account the consistent back-reaction to metric. The exact KS solutions have the form of singular beam-like pulses supported on twistor null lines of the Kerr congruence. These twistor-beam pulses have very strong back reaction to metric and BH horizon and produce a fluctuating holographic KS geometry which takes…
We investigate the renormalized vacuum expectation values of the field square and the energy-momentum tensor for the electromagnetic field inside and outside of a conducting cylindrical shell in the cosmic string spacetime. By using the generalized Abel-Plana formula, the vacuum expectation values are presented in the form of the sum of boundary-free and boundary-induced parts. The asymptotic behavior of the vacuum expectation values of the field square, energy density and stresses are investigated in various limiting cases.
The source-free Maxwell action is invariant under electric-magnetic duality rotations in arbitrary spacetimes. This leads to a conserved classical Noether charge. We show that this conservation law is broken at the quantum level in presence of a background classical gravitational field with a non-trivial Chern-Pontryagin invariant, in a parallel way to the chiral anomaly for massless Dirac fermions. Among the physical consequences, the net polarization of the quantum electromagnetic field is not conserved.
There should be quantum vacuum fluctuations of spacetime itself, if we accept that the basic quantum principles we are already familiar with apply as well to a quantum theory of gravity. In this paper, we study, in linearized quantum gravity, the quantum entanglement generation at the neighborhood of the initial time between two independent gravitationally polarizable two-level subsystems caused by fluctuating quantum vacuum gravitational fields in the framework of open quantum systems. A bath of fluctuating quantum vacuum gravitational fields serves as an environment that provides indirect in…
The effects of fluctuating boundaries on a superposition state of a quantum particle in a box is studied. We consider a model in one space dimension in which the initial state is a coherent superposition of two energy eigenstates. The locations of the walls of the box are assumed to undergo small fluctuation with a Gaussian probability distribution. The spatial probability density of the particle contains an interference term, which is found to decay in time due to the boundary fluctuations. At late times, this term vanishes and the quantum coherence is lost. The system is now described by a d…
We study fluctuation electromagnetic interaction between small neutral rotating particle and polarizable surface. The attraction force, friction torque and heating are produced by the particle polarization and fluctuating near-field of the surface. Closed analytical expressions are found for these quantities assuming that the particle and surface are characterized by the frequency dependent polarizability and dielectric permittivity and different temperatures. It is shown that the stopping time of the rolling particle in the near-field of the surface is much less than the stopping time under u…
We discuss the limit of vanishing $G$ (Newton's constant of universal gravitation) of the maximal analytically extended Kerr--Newman electrovacuum spacetimes {represented in Boyer--Lindquist coordinates}. We investigate the topologically nontrivial spacetime emerging in this limit and show that it consists of two copies of flat Minkowski spacetime glued at a timelike solid cylinder. As $G\to 0$, the electromagnetic fields of the Kerr-Newman spacetimes converge to nontrivial solutions of Maxwell's equations on this background spacetime. We show how to obtain these fields by solving Maxwell's eq…
Schemes of gravitationally induced decoherence are being actively investigated as possible mechanisms for the quantum-to-classical transition. Here, we introduce a decoherence process due to quantum gravity effects. We assume a foamy quantum spacetime with a fluctuating minimal length coinciding on average with the Planck scale. Considering deformed canonical commutation relations with a fluctuating deformation parameter, we derive a Lindblad master equation that yields localization in energy space and decoherence times consistent with the currently available observational evidence. Compared t…
Two-point functions, the mean field squared and the vacuum expectation value (VEV) of the energy-momentum tensor are investigated for the electromagnetic field in the geometry of parallel plates on background of $(D+1)$% -dimensional dS spacetime. We assume that the field is prepared in the Bunch-Davies vacuum state and on the plates a boundary condition is imposed that is a generalization of the perfectly conducting boundary condition for an arbitrary number of spatial dimensions. It is shown that for $D\geq 4$ the background gravitational field essentially changes the behavior of the VEVs at…
Spacetime is composed of a fluctuating arrangement of bubbles or loops called spacetime foam, or quantum foam. We use the holographic principle to deduce its structure, and show that the result is consistent with gedanken experiments involving spacetime measurements. We propose to use laser-based atom interferometry techniques to look for spacetime fluctuations. Our analysis makes it clear that the physics of quantum foam is inextricably linked to that of black holes. A negative experimental result, therefore, might have non-trivial ramifications for semiclassical gravity and black hole physic…
We study the flight time fluctuations in an anisotropic medium inspired by a cosmic string with an effective fluctuating refractive index caused by fluctuating vacuum electric fields, which are analogous to the lightcone fluctuations due to fluctuating spacetime metric when gravity is quantized. The medium can be realized as a metamaterial that mimics a cosmic string in the sense of transformation optics. For a probe light close to the analogue string, the flight time variance is $ν$ times that in a normal homogeneous and isotropic medium, where $ν$ is a parameter characterizing the deficit an…
A new general expression is derived for the fluctuating electromagnetic field outside a metal surface, in terms of its surface impedance. It provides a generalization to real metals of Lifshitz theory of molecular interactions between dielectric solids. The theory is used to compute the radiative heat transfer between two parallel metal surfaces at different temperatures. It is shown that a measurement of this quantity may provide an experimental resolution of a long-standing controversy about the effect of thermal corrections on the Casimir force between real metal plates.
We investigate non-inertial and gravitational effects on quantum states in electromagnetic fields and present the analytic solution for energy eigenstates for the Schrödinger equation including non-inertial, gravitational and electromagnetic effects. We find that in addition to the Landau quantization the rotation of spacetime itself leads to the additional quantization, and that the energy levels for an electron are different from those for a proton at the level of gravitational corrections.
The problem of time in canonical quantum gravity is related to the fact that the canonical description is based on the prior choice of a spacelike foliation, hence making a reference to a spacetime metric. However, the metric is expected to be a dynamical, fluctuating quantity in quantum gravity. We show how this problem can be solved in the histories formulation of general relativity. We implement the 3+1 decomposition using metric-dependent foliations which remain spacelike with respect to all possible Lorentzian metrics. This allows us to find an explicit relation of covariant and canonical…
