Data representation is crucial for the success of machine learning models. In the context of quantum machine learning with near-term quantum computers, equally important considerations of how to efficiently input (encode) data and effectively deal with noise arise. In this work, we study data encodings for binary quantum classification and investigate their properties both with and without noise. For the common classifier we consider, we show that encodings determine the classes of learnable decision boundaries as well as the set of points which retain the same classification in the presence of noise. After defining the notion of a robust data encoding, we prove several results on robustness for different channels, discuss the existence of robust encodings, and prove an upper bound on the number of robust points in terms of fidelities between noisy and noiseless states. Numerical results for several example implementations are provided to reinforce our findings.
The interplay between quantum physics and machine learning gives rise to the emergent frontier of quantum machine learning, where advanced quantum learning models may outperform their classical counterparts in solving certain challenging problems. However, quantum learning systems are vulnerable to adversarial attacks: adding tiny carefully-crafted perturbations on legitimate input samples can cause misclassifications. To address this issue, we propose a general scheme to protect quantum learning systems from adversarial attacks by randomly encoding the legitimate data samples through unitary …
Recent days have witnessed significant interests in applying quantum-enhanced techniques for solving a variety of machine learning tasks. Variational methods that use quantum resources of imperfect quantum devices with the help of classical computing techniques are popular for supervised learning. Variational quantum classification (VQC) is one of such methods with possible quantum advantage in using quantum-enhanced features that are hard to compute by classical methods. Its performance depends on the mapping of classical features into a quantum-enhanced feature space. Although there have bee…
In this paper, classical and continuous variable (CV) quantum neural network hybrid multiclassifiers are presented using the MNIST dataset. The combination of cutoff dimension and probability measurement method in the CV model allows a quantum circuit to produce output vectors of size equal to n raised to the power of n where n represents cutoff dimension and m, the number of qumodes. They are then translated as one-hot encoded labels, padded with an appropriate number of zeros. The total of eight different classifiers are built using 2,3,...,8 qumodes, based on the binary classifier architect…

I present a quick and sound method for the robustness verification of a sort of quantum classifiers who are Linear Sound. Since quantum machine learning has been put into practice in relevant fields and Linear Sound Property, LSP is a pervasive property, the method could be universally applied. I implemented my method with a Quantum Convolutional Neural Network, QCNN using MindQuantum, Huawei and successfully verified its robustness when classifying MNIST dataset.

We present tensor networks for feature extraction and refinement of classifier performance. These networks can be initialised deterministically and have the potential for implementation on near-term intermediate-scale quantum (NISQ) devices. Feature extraction proceeds through a direct combination and compression of images amplitude-encoded over just $\log N_{\text{pixels}}$ qubits. Performance is refined using `Quantum Stacking', a deterministic method that can be applied to the predictions of any classifier regardless of structure, and implemented on NISQ devices using data re-uploading. The…
High-fidelity and robust quantum manipulation is the key for scalable quantum computation. Therefore, due to the intrinsic operational robustness, quantum manipulation induced by geometric phases is one of the promising candidates. However, the longer gate time for geometric operations and more physical-implementation difficulties hinder its practical and wide applications. Here, we propose a simplified implementation of universal holonomic quantum gates on superconducting circuits with experimentally demonstrated techniques, which can remove the two main challenges by introducing the time-opt…
