Experimental measurements of Drell-Yan (DY) vector-boson production are available from the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) and from lower-energy collider and fixed-target experiments. In the region of low vector-boson transverse momenta $q_T$, which is important for the extraction of the $W$-boson mass at the LHC, QCD contributions from non-perturbative Sudakov form factors and intrinsic transverse momentum distributions become relevant. We study the potential for determining such contributions from fits to LHC and lower-energy experimental data, using the framework of low-$q_T$ factorization for DY differential cross sections in terms of transverse momentum dependent (TMD) distribution functions. We investigate correlations between different sources of TMD non-perturbative effects, and correlations with collinear parton distributions. We stress the relevance of accurate DY measurements at low masses and with fine binning in transverse momentum for improved determinations of long-distance contributions to Sudakov evolution processes and TMDs.
The perturbative quark-mass corrections to the $τ$ hadronic width are analysed to $O(α_s^3 m_q^2)$, using the presently available theoretical information. The behaviour of the perturbative series is investigated in order to assess the associated uncertainties. The implications for the determination of the strange quark mass from $τ$ decay data are discussed.
Power corrections to hadronic event shapes are estimated using a recently suggested relationship between perturbative and non-perturbative effects in QCD. The infrared cutoff dependence of perturbative calculations is related to non-perturbative contributions with the same dependence on the energy scale $Q$. Corrections proportional to $1/Q$ are predicted, in agreement with experiment. An empirical proportionality between the magnitudes of perturbative and non-perturbative coefficients is noted.
Perturbative cross section for direct B_c meson production in gluon gluon scattering g g --> B_c^+ b \bar{c} is calculated and compared with other existing results. Predictions for hadronic B_c production at Tevatron and LHC are presented and the main sources of uncertainties are discussed.
Models of hadron structure are associated with a hadronic scale which allows by perturbative evolution to calculate observables in the deep inelastic region. The resolution of Dyson-Schwinger equations leads to the freezing of the QCD running coupling (effective charge) in the infrared, which is best understood as a dynamical generation of a gluon mass function, giving rise to a momentum dependence which is free from infrared divergences. We use this new development to understand why perturbative treatments are working reasonably well despite the smallness of the hadronic scale.
We review the current status of the high order perturbative QCD evaluation of the hadronic decay rates of the Z and Higgs bosons. A systematic classification of the various types of QCD corrections to $O(α_s^2)$ and $O(α_s^3)$ is made and their numerical status is clarified.
We calculate the dissociation rates of quarkonium ground states by tunnelling and direct thermal activation to the continuum. For hadronic matter at temperatures $T \leq 0.2$ GeV, neither of these mechanisms leads to a sufficiently large dissociation to explain the experimentally observed suppression of charmonium. Dissociation by sequential excitation to excited energy levels, although OZI-forbidden, requires further analysis.
We give a short overview of the phenomenology of azimuthal and transverse single spin asymmetries in (un)polarized high-energy hadronic collisions. We briefly summarize a transverse momentum dependent, generalized parton model approach to these polarization phenomena, and discuss some of its applications. Finally, open points and future developments will be outlined.
Transverse momentum event-by-event fluctuations are studied within the string-hadronic model of high energy nuclear collisions, LUCIAE. Data on non-statistical pT fluctuations in p+p interactions are reproduced. Fluctuations of similar magnitude are predicted for nucleus-nucleus collisions, in contradiction to the preliminary NA49 results. The introduction of a string clustering mechanism (Firecracker Model) leads to a further, significant increase of pT fluctuations for nucleus-nucleus collisions. Secondary hadronic interactions, as implemented in LUCIAE, cause only a small reduction of pT fl…
The inclusive hadronic production of $η_Q$($η_c$ or $η_b$) pair is proposed to extract the transverse momentum dependent(TMD) gluon distribution functions. We use nonrelativistic QCD(NRQCD) for the production of $η_Q$. Under nonrelativistic limit TMD factorization for this process is assumed to make a lowest order calculation. For unpolarized initial hadrons, unpolarized and linearly polarized gluon distributions can be extracted by studying different angular distributions.
We analyze single transverse-spin asymmetries for hadronic pion production at large transverse momenta using QCD factorization. In the large $x_F$ region, leading contributions to the asymmetries are naturally produced by twist-3 parton correlation functions that couple quark fields and gluon field strengths. With a simple model for these matrix elements, leading-order asymmetries calculated from QCD are consistent with data on pion production from Fermilab, and can be used to predict single-spin asymmetries at RHIC. We argue that our perturbative calculation for the asymmetries is relevant to…
Diffractive deeply inelastic scattering from a hadron is described in terms of diffractive quark and gluon distributions. If the transverse size of the hadronic state is sufficiently small, these distributions are calculable using perturbation theory. We present such a calculation and discuss the underlying dynamics. We comment on the relation between this dynamics and the pattern of scaling violation observed in the hard diffraction of large-size states at HERA.
We review the perturbative QCD approach study of hadronic B decays. Utilizing the constrained parameters in these well measured decay channels, we study most of the possible charmless $B_s \to PP$, $PV$ and $VV$ decay channels in the perturbative QCD approach. In addition to the branching ratios and CP asymmetries, we also give predictions to the polarization fractions of the vector meson final states. The size of SU(3) breaking effect is also discussed. These predictions can be tested by the future LHCb experiment.
We compare several recent theoretical studies of the single transverse spin asymmetry in dijet-correlations at hadron colliders. We show that the results of these studies are all consistent. To establish this, we investigate in particular the two-gluon exchange contributions to the relevant initial and final state interactions in the context of a simplifying model. Overall, the results confirm that the dijet imbalance obeys at best a non-standard or "generalized" transverse-momentum-dependent factorization.
In the determination of alpha_s from tau decays several different moments of the hadronic spectral functions have been used. In a recent work, we performed an analysis of their perturbative behaviour under two different assumptions for the higher-order coefficients of the Adler function. We showed that the various moments can be divided in a small number of classes. We concluded that some of the moments commonly employed in alpha_s extractions should be avoided due to their bad perturbative behaviour. Furthermore, for the moments that have a good perturbative behaviour, and under reasonable as…
We examine the spatial density within extended objects of the momentum component $p^+$, and find relativistically exact connections to Fourier transforms of gravitational form factors. We apply these results to obtain semi-empirical momentum density distributions within nucleons, and similar distributions for spin-1 objects based on theoretical results from the AdS/QCD correspondence. We find that the momentum density in the transverse plane is more compact than the charge density.
Various moments of the hadronic spectral functions have been employed in the determination of the strong coupling alpha_s from tau decays. In this work we study the behaviour of their perturbative series under different assumptions for the large-order behaviour of the Adler function, extending previous work on the tau hadronic width. We find that the moments can be divided into a small number of classes, whose characteristics depend only on generic features of the moment weight function and Adler function series. Some moments that are commonly employed in alpha_s analyses from tau decays shoul…
We consider hadronic production of a Z boson in association with a jet and study one- and two-loop electroweak logarithmic corrections in the region of high Z-boson transverse momentum, p_T >> M_Z, including leading and next-to-leading logarithms. Numerical results for the LHC and Tevatron colliders are presented. At the LHC these corrections amount to tens of per cent and will be important for interpretation of the measurements.
In the extraction of $α_s$ from hadronic tau decay data several moments of the spectral functions have been employed. Furthermore, different renormalization group improvement (RGI) frameworks have been advocated, leading to conflicting values of $α_s$. Recently, we performed a systematic study of the perturbative behavior of these moments in the context of the two main-stream RGI frameworks: Fixed Order Perturbation Theory (FOPT) and Contour Improved Perturbation Theory (CIPT). The yet unknown higher order coefficients of the perturbative series were modelled using the available knowledge of t…
The interplay of pQCD, pion exchange and FSI effects is studied for the gamma gamma --> pi^+ pi^- reaction in the region of 2 GeV < W_{gamma gamma} < 6 GeV. We find strong interference effects between pQCD and soft pion-exchange amplitudes up to W_{gamma gamma} ~ 4 GeV. We discuss to which extend the conventional hadronic FSI effects could cloud the pQCD effects. We study multipole soft and hard scattering effects as well as the coupling between final state hadronic channels. We show how the perturbative effects in gamma gamma --> rho rho may mix with perturbative effects in gamma gamma --> pi…
We study the transverse single spin asymmetry in $η_{c,b}$ production in polarized hadron collisions, employing the collinear twist-3 approach in combination with the color singlet model. Our main focus lies on the contribution from the twist-3 Efremov-Teryaev-Qiu-Sterman function. By extrapolating the derived spin dependent cross section to the small transverse momentum region, consistency between the collinear twist-3 approach and the transverse momentum dependent factorization approach is confirmed. As a byproduct of this work, we identify a term contributing to the scale evolution of tri-g…
A formula for the single transverse spin asymmetry in the large-$p_T$ pion production in the nucleon-nucleon collision is derived. We focuss on the chiral-odd contribution where the transversity distribution and the chiral-odd spin-independent twist-3 distribution contributes. This contribution is expected to give rise to a large effect at $x_F\to -1$.
This paper describes the fortran program rhad which performs a numerical evaluation of the photon-induced hadronic R-ratio, R(s), related to the cross section for electron-positron annihilation, for a given center-of-mass energy \sqrt{s}. In rhad the state-of-the-art perturbative corrections to R(s) are implemented and the running and decoupling of the strong coupling constant and the quark masses is automatically treated consistently. Several options allow for a flexible use of the program.
We study the transverse momentum resummation for dijet correlation in hadron collisions based on the Collins-Soper-Sterman formalism. The complete one-loop calculations are carried out in the collinear factorization framework for the differential cross sections at low imbalance transverse momentum between the two jets. Important cross checks are performed to demonstrate that the soft divergences cancelled out between different diagrams, and in particular, those associated with final state jets. The leading and sub-leading logarithms are identified. All order resummation is derived following th…
The role of intrinsic transverse momentum both in unpolarized and polarized processes is discussed. We consider inclusive cross sections for pion production in hadronic collisions and for Drell-Yan processes; the results are compared with available experimental data in several different kinematical situations. We reanalyze transverse single spin asymmetries (SSA) observed in inclusive pion production, p(transv. polarized) p --> pion + X, in terms of Sivers effect and show how it can be disentangled in polarized Drell-Yan processes by suitably integrating over some final configurations. Estimat…
We investigate the role of nonperturbative quark-gluon dynamics in soft high energy processes. In order to reproduce differential and total cross sections for elastic proton-proton and proton-antiproton-scattering at high energy and small momentum transfer it turns out that we need two scales, the gluonic correlation length and a confinement scale. We find a small gluonic correlation length, a = 0.2 fm, in accordance with recent lattice QCD results.
Our understanding of the transverse spin structure of hadrons might definitely get improved by the information we gather on transverse momentum dependent (TMD) distributions. These new functions could also be crucial for a description of the observed transverse single spin asymmetries (SSA). In a hard scattering model for inclusive hadronic reactions, based on a generalized QCD factorization scheme, many mechanisms - namely the Sivers, Collins, Boer-Mulders effects - might contribute to a SSA. We show how the k_T dependent phases arising from the partonic kinematics together with a suitable ch…
We study single-spin asymmetries in semi-inclusive deep inelastic scattering with transversely polarized target. Based on the QCD factorization approach, we consider Sivers and Collins contributions to the asymmetries. We fit simple parameterizations for the Sivers and Collins functions to the recent HERMES data, and compare to results from COMPASS. Using the fitted parameterizations for the Sivers functions, we predict the single transverse spin asymmetries for various processes in $pp$ collisions at RHIC, including the Drell-Yan process and angular correlations in dijet and jet-plus-photon p…
We extend our recent works on the two-pion $S$-wave resonance contributions to the kaon-pion ones in the $B$ meson hadronic charmonium decay modes based on the perturbative QCD approach. The $S$-wave $Kπ$ time-like form factor in its distribution amplitudes is described by the LASS parametrization, which consists of the $K^*_0(1430)$ resonant state together with an effective range nonresonant component. The predictions for the decays $B\rightarrow J/ψKπ$ in this work agree well with the experimental results from $BABAR$ and Belle Collaborations. We also discuss theoretical uncertainties, indic…
Along with the running of Large Hadron Collider (LHC) located at CERN in November 2009, a large number of data samples of $B_c$ meson have been collected and some hadronic $B_c$ decay modes have been measured by the LHC experiments. In view of the special and important roles of $B_c$ meson decays playing in the heavy flavor sector, we here give a short review on the status of two body hadronic decays $B_c \to M_1 M_2$ at both experimental and theoretical aspects. For the theoretical progresses, specifically, we will show lots of theoretical studies on two body hadronic $B_c$ decays involving p…
We consider the region of small transverse momenta in the production of high-mass systems in hadronic collisions. By using the current knowledge on the infrared behaviour of tree-level and one-loop QCD amplitudes at O(alpha_s^2), we analytically compute the general form of the logarithmically-enhanced contributions up to next-to-next-to-leading logarithmic accuracy. By comparing the results with q_T-resummation formulae we extract the coefficients that control the resummation of the large logarithmic contributions for both quark and gluon channels. Our results show that within the conventional…
We present an estimate of a chiral-odd contribution to the single transverse-spin asymmetry in the large-$p_T$ pion production in the nucleon-nucleon collision. In this contribution the transversity distribution and the chiral-odd spin-independent twist-3 distribution appear. Because of the smallness of the corresponding hard cross section, this term turned out to be negligible in all kinematic regions compared with the chiral-even contribution.
A summary is given of the work which was presented in the working group C "Hadronic Final States" at the DIS04 workshop (Strbske Pleso, Slovakia, April 14-18, 2004). Progress in experimental tests and the theoretical development of perturbative and non-perturbative QCD is reported.
We consider the resummation of soft-gluon emission in the transverse-momentum distribution of vector mesons in hadronic collisions. We find that the resummed expression in the impact-parameter formulation has an expansion in $\as$ with factorially growing terms with oscillating signs. These diverging terms arise from the small impact-parameter region of integration, and are of a subleading nature. We also obtain a closed expression for the next-to-leading logarithm resummation in $\qt$-space, and we study its analytic structure. We find in this case that, although no factorially growing terms …
The recent formulation of the factorization theorem for transverse momentum spectra in terms of well-defined transverse momentum dependent distributions (TMDs), allows for a better understanding of the role of the perturbative and non-perturbative QCD contributions and their interplay. In particular, non-perturbative effects are often included both in the evolution of the TMDs and in the modeling of their scale-independent part. Using the available Drell-Yan and $Z$-production data at low and high energy we show that, for the currently available dilepton invariant mass values, the TMD evolutio…
It is generally assumed that due to factorization of long- and short-distance dynamics perturbative QCD can be applied to exclusive hadronic reactions at large momentum transfers. Within such a perturbative approach diquarks turn out to be a useful phenomenological device to model non-perturbative effects still observable in the kinematic range accessible by present-days experiments. The basic ingredients of the perturbative formalism with diquarks, i.e. Feynman rules for diquarks and quark-diquark wave functions of baryons, are briefly summarized. Applications of the diquark model to the elec…
The resummed transverse momentum distribution of the Higgs boson in gluon fusion through LO+NLL for small transverse momenta is considered, where the Higgs is produced through a top- and bottom-quark loop. We study the mass effects with respect to the infinite top-mass approach. The top-mass effects are small and the heavy-top limit is valid to better than 4% as long as the Higgs' transverse momentum stays below 150 GeV. When the bottom loop is considered as well, the discrepancy reaches up to about 10%. We conclude that bottom-mass effects cannot be included in a reasonable manner by a naive …
In the events of the type $e^+e^- \rightarrow W^+W^- \rightarrow$ 4 jets, $e^+e^- \rightarrow t\bar{t} \rightarrow bW^+\bar{b}W^-$, particle production could depend in a non-trivial way on the kinematics of the process. It is shown that QCD interference effects are negligible for energetic perturbative emission, but soft perturbative gluons and non-perturbative fragmentation could induce colour correlations. Possible consequences for LEP 2 and NLC events are briefly addressed.
One of the main open questions in physics is the understanding of the internal structure of the strongly interacting particles, or hadrons. It is still a challenge to describe consistently the dynamics of scattering processes and hadronic structure at moderate energy scales. The study of Parton Distribution Functions (PDFs) sets a connection between the perturbative and non-perturbative worlds, through the following scheme: one builds models consistent with QCD in a moderate energy range, PDFs are evaluated in these models, and, finally, the scale dependence of these distributions is studied. …
We investigate the form of the non-perturbative parameterization in both the impact parameter (b) space and transverse momentum (p_T) space resummation formalisms for the transverse momentum distribution of single massive bosons produced at hadron colliders. We propose to analyse data on Upsilon hadroproduction as a means of studying the non-perturbative contribution in processes with two gluons in the initial state. We also discuss the theoretical errors on the resummed Higgs transverse momentum distribution at the LHC arising from the non-perturbative contribution.
A two-gluon-exchange model incorporating perturbative and non-perturbative effects is presented for rho electroproduction which provides an excellent description of all current data. This is then used to calculate the contribution from the rho to deeply virtual Compton scattering via the vector-meson-dominance transition rho -> gamma. This is found to be sufficiently large to provide a significant contribution through interference with the perturbative QCD term.
In the framework of perturbative QCD in the fourth order over the $α_s$ coupling constant for the production of two pairs of quarks and in the model of weak binding of the quarks into meson, the analysis of the hadronic production of mesons, containing $b$-quark, is performed, and a minimal transverse momentum is determined, so that at the momenta greater than the found one, the meson differential spectrum can be reliably described in the model of factorization of the hard $b$-quark production and the subsequent fragmentation into the mesons. At low transverse momenta of the meson, nonfragment…
We study the impact of electroweak radiative corrections on direct production of photons with high transverse momenta at hadron colliders. Analytic results for the weak one-loop corrections to the parton scattering reaction $\bar q q \to γg$ and its crossed variants are presented. For the high-energy region, where the corrections are strongly enhanced by logarithms of $\hat s/M_W^2$, we derive simple asymptotic expressions which approximate the exact one-loop results with high precision. The dominant two-loop electroweak contributions are also calculated. Numerical results are presented for th…
We investigate the transverse momentum resummation for top quark pair production at hadron colliders using the soft-collinear effective theory and the heavy-quark effective theory. We derive the factorization formula for $t\bar{t}$ production at small pair transverse momentum, and show in detail the procedure for calculating the key ingredient of the factorization formula: the next-to-leading order soft functions. We compare our numerical results with experimental data and find that they are consistent within theoretical and experimental uncertainties. To verify the correctness of our resummat…
It is demonstrated how perturbative O(alpha_s^2) relativistic corrections to the non-relativistic stable heavy quark-antiquark production cross section in e^+e^- annihilation based on a Coulombic QCD potential can be systematically calculated using the concept of effective field theories. The O(alpha_s^2) corrections from the relativistic energy-momentum relation, the relativistic phase space corrections and the O(alpha_s^2) corrections involving the group theoretical factors C_F^2 and C_F T are determined explicitly. For the case of $t\bar t$ production the sum of these corrections amounts to…
I present a unifying scheme for hadronic functions that comprises logarithmic corrections due to gluon emission in perturbative QCD, as well as power-behaved corrections of nonperturbative origin. The latter are derived by demanding that perturbatively resummed partonic observables should be analytic in the whole $Q^2$-plane if they are to be related to physical observables measured in experiments. I also show phenomenological consequences of this approach. The focus is on the electromagnetic pion form factor to illustrate both effects, Sudakov logarithms and power corrections in leading order…
Transverse single-spin asymmetries (SSA) are expected to be small in perturbative QCD because of the chiral nature of the theory. Experiment shows large transverse SSA for particle produced in special kinematics. This contribution reviews the experimental situation and provide an outlook for future measurements.
By means of an explicit one-loop calculation, it is shown that the leading twist contribution to the exclusive electroproduction of transversely polarized vector mesons from the nucleon vanishes. This confirms the all-orders proof by Collins and Diehl.
A complete calculation of the ${\cal O}(α_s^4)$ perturbative QCD corrections to the hadronic decay width of the $Z$-boson has recently been performed by Baikov et al.[1]. In their analysis, Baikov et al. relied on the conventional practice of simply guessing the renormalization scale and taking an arbitrary range to estimate the pQCD uncertainties. This procedure inevitably introduces an arbitrary, scheme-dependent theoretical systematic error in the predictions. In this paper, we show that the renormalization scale uncertainties for hadronic $Z$ decays can be greatly reduced by applying the p…
In the Drell-Yan process (DY) a quark and an antiquark, coming from two different protons, produce a colorless virtual photon. In the proton description, we include transverse momentum dependent parton distribution functions (TMD PDFs), which go beyond the ordinary collinear PDFs. As such, we become sensitive to polarization modes of the partons and protons that one cannot probe without accounting for transverse momenta of partons, in particular when one looks at azimuthal asymmetries. Matrix elements used in the description of hadronic processes, such as DY, require the inclusion of gauge lin…
We present a study on the applicability of transverse mass scaling for identified particle spectra in proton-proton collisions at $\sqrt{s}=7$ TeV based on data taken by the ALICE experiment at the LHC. The measured yields are parametrized and compared to estimates obtained from a generalized transverse mass scaling approach applied to different reference particle spectra. It is found that generalized transverse mass scaling is not able to describe the measured spectra over the full range in transverse momentum. At low $p_{\rm T}$, deviations of $20$% or more are obtained, in particular if pio…
In the Framework of {\it{valon model}} we have calculated the parton distribution in a valon for both the polarized and unpolarized cases. These distributions are originated purely from the dressing of a valence quark in QCD and are common to all hadrons. Structure functions, $F_{2}^{p,π}$, are obtained, which agree rather well with the experimental results. A simple relation between $F_{2}^{p}$ and $F_{2}^π$ is inferred. For the polarized structure function, $g_{1}$ while the model gives good agreement with data, it requires a sizable angular momentum contribution to the spin of the valon, an…
Inclusive associated production of a light Higgs boson (m_H < m_t) with one jet in pp collisions is studied in next-to-leading order QCD. Transverse momentum (p_T < 30 GeV) and rapidity distributions of the Higgs boson are calculated for the LHC in the large top-quark mass limit. It is pointed out that, as much as in the case of inclusive Higgs production, the K-factor of this process is large (~1.6) and depends weakly on the kinematics in a wide range of transverse momentum and rapidity intervals. Our result confirms previous suggestions that the production channel p+p -> H+jet -> gamma+gamma…
The total $τ$ hadronic width can be accurately calculated using analyticity and the operator product expansion. The theoretical analysis of this observable is updated to include all available perturbative and non-perturbative corrections. The experimental determination of $α_s(M_τ^2)$ and its actual uncertainties are discussed.
We use the "dispersive method" to investigate non-perturbative effects in the transverse momentum distribution of vector bosons produced in p-pbar collisions. The assumption of a non-perturbative modification to the running coupling at low scales leads to additional contributions in impact parameter space proportional to -b^2 log Q^2 and -b^2. Our results, which we expect to be valid provided tau is not close to 1, are shown to account for a substantial proportion of the total non-perturbative contribution extracted from data.
We consider semi-inclusive deep inelastic scattering (SIDIS) and Drell-Yan events within transverse momentum dependent (TMD) factorization. Based on the simultaneous fit of multiple data points, we extract the unpolarized TMD distributions and the non-perturbative evolution kernel. The high quality of the fit confirms a complete universality of TMD non-perturbative distributions. The extraction is supplemented by phenomenological analyses of various parts of the TMD factorization, such as sensitivity to non-perturbative parameterizations, perturbative orders, collinear distributions, correlati…
The cross section for transverse momentum dependent double parton scattering involves transverse momentum dependent double parton distributions (DTMDs). In the region of perturbative transverse momentum the DTMDs can be matched onto collinear double parton distributions. We present the framework and results for this matching, as well as the evolution equations for DTMDs in the region of large distance between the two partons. We discuss explicit results for one-loop matching coefficients and evolution kernels.
We study the low transverse momentum (p_T) distribution of the Z-boson at hadron colliders for p_T ~ Lambda_{QCD} using a factorization and resummation formula derived in the Soft Collinear Effective Theory (SCET). In the region p_T ~ Lambda_{QCD}, new non-perturbative effects arise that cannot be entirely captured by the standard parton distribution functions, and require an additional new non-perturbative transverse momentum function (TMF). The TMF is field-theoretically defined in SCET, fully gauge invariant, and captures the non-perturbative dynamics that affects the p_T-distribution in th…
By reanalysing transverse momentum dependence in the perturbative calculation of pion form factor an improved expression of pion form factor which takes into account the transverse momentum dependenc in hard scattering amplitude and intrinsic transverse momentum dependence associated with pion wave functions is given to leading order, which is available for momentum transfers of the order of a few GeV as well as for $Q \to \infty$. Our scheme can be extended to evaluate the contributions to the pion form factor beyond leading order.
We study the single transverse-spin asymmetry for dijet production in hadronic collisions in both the collinear QCD factorization approach and the Brodsky-Hwang-Schmidt model. We show that a nonvanishing asymmetry is generated by both initial-state and final-state interactions, and that the final-state interactions dominate. We find that in the leading kinematic region where the transverse momentum imbalance of the two jets, q_\perp = P_{1\perp}+P_{2\perp}, is much less than the momentum of either jet, the contribution from the lowest non-trivial perturbative order to both the spin-averaged an…
