We study the law of the iterated logarithm (Khinchin (1924), Kolmogorov (1929)) and related strong invariance principles in stochastic geometry. As potential applications, we think of well-known functionals such as functionals defined on the $k$-nearest neighbors graph and important functionals in topological data analysis such as the Euler characteristic and persistent Betti numbers.

Based on a law of the iterated logarithm for independent random variables sequences, an iterated logarithm theorem for NA sequences with non-identical distributions is obtained. The proof is based on a Kolmogrov-type exponential inequality.
We study the law of the iterated logarithm (LIL) for the maximum likelihood estimation of the parameters (as a convex optimization problem) in the generalized linear models with independent or weakly dependent ($ρ$-mixing, $m$-dependent) responses under mild conditions. The LIL is useful to derive the asymptotic bounds for the discrepancy between the empirical process of the log-likelihood function and the true log-likelihood. As the application of the LIL, the strong consistency of some penalized likelihood based model selection criteria can be shown. Under some regularity conditions, the mod…
In this paper, motivated by the notion of independent identically distributed (IID) random variables under sub-linear expectations initiated by Peng, we investigate a law of the iterated logarithm for capacities. It turns out that our theorem is a natural extension of the Kolmogorov and the Hartman-Wintner laws of the iterated logarithm.
We derive laws of the iterated logarithm for random walks on random conductance models under the assumption that the random walks enjoy long time sub-Gaussian heat kernel estimates.
Consider a Crump-Mode-Jagers process generated by an increasing random walk whose increments have finite second moment. Let $Y_k(t)$ be the number of individuals in generation $k\in \mathbb N$ born in the time interval $[0,t]$. We prove a law of the iterated logarithm for $Y_k(t)$ with fixed $k$, as $t\to +\infty$. As a consequence, we derive a law of the iterated logarithm for the number of vertices at a fixed level $k$ in a random recursive tree, as the number of vertices goes to $\infty$.
We prove a new Donsker's invariance principle for independent and identically distributed random variables under the sub-linear expectation. As applications, the small deviations and Chung's law of the iterated logarithm are obtained.
In this note, we establish a compact law of the iterated logarithm under the upper capacity for independent and identically distributed random variables in a sub-linear expectation space. For showing the result, a self-normalized law of the iterated logarithm is established.
A small ball problem and Chung's law of iterated logarithm for a hypoelliptic Brownian motion in Heisenberg group are proven. In addition, bounds on the limit in Chung's law are established.
There is a condition (T'), such that it is the necessary condition that a random walk in random environment is ballistic. Under this condition, we show the law of the iterated logarithm for a random walk in random environment.
Here we implement the Azencott method to prove the moderate deviation principle for the two-dimensional incompressible stochastic Navier-Stokes equations in a bounded domain. As applications two types of the law of the iterated logarithm Khintchine Classical type and the Strassen's compact law of iterated logarithm, are proved.
In this paper, we prove Strassen's strong invariance principle for a vector-valued additive functionals of a Markov chain via the martingale argument and the theory of fractional coboundaries. The hypothesis is a moment bound on the resolvent.
This paper gives sufficent and necessary conditions on a kind of limit results to hold on the precise convergent rate of an infinite series of probabilities on the Chung type law of the iterated logarithm.
In this paper non-asymptotic exponential estimates are derived for tail of maximum martingale distribution by naturally norming in the spirit of the classical Law of Iterated Logarithm. Key words: Martingales, exponential estimations, moment, Banach spaces of random variables, tail of distribution, conditional expectation.
Based on two-sided heat kernel estimates for a class of symmetric jump processes on metric measure spaces, the laws of the iterated logarithm (LILs) for sample paths, local times and ranges are established. In particular, the LILs are obtained for $β$-stable-like processes on $α$-sets with $β>0$.
We give a game-theoretic proof of the celebrated Erdos-Feller-Kolmogorov-Petrowsky law of the iterated logarithm for fair coin tossing. Our proof, based on Bayesian strategy, is explicit as many other game-theoretic proofs of the laws in probability theory.
The Law of the Iterated Logarithm for some Markov operators, which converge exponentially to the invariant measure, is established. The operators correspond to iterated function systems which, for example, may be used to generalize the cell cycle model examined by A. Lasota and M.C. Mackey, J. Math. Biol. (1999).
We develop a new method for showing that a given sequence of random variables verifies an appropriate law of the iterated logarithm. Our tools involve the use of general estimates on multidimensional Wasserstein distances, that are in turn based on recently developed inequalities involving Stein matrices and transport distances. Our main application consists in the proof of the exact law of the iterated logarithm for the Hermite variations of a fractional Brownian motion in the critical case.
In this paper, we prove a large deviation principle of Freidlin-Wentzell's type for the multivalued stochastic differential equations. As an application, we derive a functional iterated logarithm law for the solutions of multivalued stochastic differential equations.
The law of the iterated logarithm for partial sums of weakly dependent processes was intensively studied by Walter Philipp in the late 1960s and 1970s. In this paper, we aim to extend these results to nondegenerate U-statistics of data that are strongly mixing or functionals of an absolutely regular process.
We prove Kolmogorov's law of the iterated logarithm for noncommutative martingales. The commutative case was due to Stout. The key ingredient is an exponential inequality proved recently by Junge and the author.
We obtain a strong invariance principle for nonconventional sums and applying this result we derive for them a version of the law of iterated logarithm, as well as an almost sure central limit theorem. Among motivations for such results are their applications to multiple recurrence for stochastic processes and dynamical systems.
We show that random walks on the infinite supercritical percolation clusters in Z^d satisfy the usual Law of the Iterated Logarithm. The proof combines Barlow's Gaussian heat kernel estimates and the ergodicity of the random walk on the environment viewed from the random walker as derived by Berger and Biskup.
In the paper, the law of the iterated logarithm for additive functionals of Markov chains is obtained under some weak conditions, which are weaker than the conditions of invariance principle of additive functionals of Markov chains in M. Maxwell and M. Woodroofe (2000). The main technique is the martingale argument and the theory of fractional coboundaries.
By taking a functional analytic point of view, we consider a family of distributions (continuous linear functionals on smooth functions), denoted by $\{μ_t,t>0\}$, associated to the law of iterated logarithm for Brownian motion on a compact manifold. We give a complete characterization of the collection of limiting distributions of $\{μ_t, t>0\}$.
We prove an Erdos-Feller-Kolmogorov-Petrowsky law of the iterated logarithm for self-normalized martingales. Our proof is given in the framework of the game-theoretic probability of Shafer and Vovk. As many other game-theoretic proofs, our proof is self-contained and explicit.
A law of the iterated logarithm is established for the last passage times of directed percolation on rectangles in the plane over exponential or geometric independent random variables, rescaled to converge to the Tracy-Widom distribution. The normalization is of loglog type, in contrast with the log normalization for the largest eigenvalue of a GUE matrix recently put forward by E. Paquette and O. Zeitouni. The proof relies on sharp tail bounds and superadditivity, close to the standard law of the iterated logarithm. A weaker result for the liminf is also discussed.
In this paper, we establish some general forms of the law of the iterated logarithm for independent random variables in a sub-linear expectation space, where the random variables are not necessarily identically distributed. Exponential inequalities for the maximum sum of independent random variables and Kolmogorov's converse exponential inequalities are established as tools for showing the law of the iterated logarithm. As an application, the sufficient and necessary conditions of the law of iterated logarithm for independent and identically distributed random variables under the sub-linear ex…
We present sufficient conditions, in terms of the jumping kernels, for two large classes of conservative Markov processes of pure-jump type to be purely discontinuous martingales with finite second moment. As an application, we establish the law of the iterated logarithm for sample paths of the associated processes.
By using a change of scale and space, we study a class of stochastic differential equations (SDEs) whose solutions are drift--perturbed and exhibit behaviour analogous to standard Brownian motion including to the Law of the Iterated Logarithm (LIL). Sufficient conditions ensuring that these processes obey the LIL are given.
In this paper, we give an approximate formula for the measure of extreme values for the logarithm of the Riemann zeta-function and its iterated integrals. The result recovers the unconditional best result for the $Ω$-result of $S_{1}(t)$ for the part of minus of Tsang.
We establish the Strassen's law of the iterated logarithm for independent and identically distributed random variables with $\hat{\mathbb{E}}[X_1]=\hat{\mathcal{E}}[X_1]=0$ and $C_{\mathbb{V}}[X_1^2]<\infty$ under sub-linear expectation space with a countably sub-additive capacity $\mathbb{V}$. We also show the LIL for upper capacity with $σ=\barσ$ under some certain conditions.
We prove Chung-type laws of the iterated logarithm for general Lévy processes at zero. In particular, we provide tools to translate small deviation estimates directly into laws of the iterated logarithm. This reveals laws of the iterated logarithm for Lévy processes at small times in many concrete examples. In some cases, exotic norming functions are derived.
We give sufficient conditions for the bounded law of the iterated logarithms for strictly stationary random fields when the summation is done on rectangle. The study is done by the control of an appropriated maximal function. The case of orthomartingales is treated. Then results on projective conditions are derived.
After establishing the moderate deviation principle by the Classical Azencott method, we prove the Strassen's compact law of the iterated logarithm (LIL) for a class of stochastic partial differential equations (SPDEs). As an application, we obtain this type of LIL for two population models known as super-Brownian motion and Fleming-Viot process. In addition, the classical LIL is shown for the class of SPDEs and the two population models.
We show that for almost every map in a transversal one-parameter family of piecewise expanding unimodal maps the Birkhoff sum of suitable observables along the forward orbit of the turning point satisfies the law of iterated logarithm. This result will follow from an almost sure invariance principle for the Birkhoff sum, as a function on the parameter space. Furthermore, we obtain a similar result for general one-parameter families of piecewise expanding maps on the interval.
We provide a sufficient condition for the bounded law of the iterated logarithms for strictly stationary random fields expressable as a functional of i.i.d. random fields when the summation is done on rectangles. The study is done via the control of the moments of an appropriated maximal function. Applications to functionals of linear random fields, functions of a Gaussian linear random field and Volterra process are given.
Let B_n be the number of self-intersections of a symmetric random walk with finite second moments in the integer planar lattice. We obtain moderate deviation estimates for B_n - E B_n and E B_n- B_n, which are given in terms of the best constant of a certain Gagliardo-Nirenberg inequality. We also prove the corresponding laws of the iterated logarithm.
The Bernoulli sieve is an infinite occupancy scheme obtained by allocating the points of a uniform $[0,1]$ sample over an infinite collection of intervals made up by successive positions of a multiplicative random walk independent of the uniform sample. We prove a law of the iterated logarithm for the number of non-empty (occupied) intervals as the size of the uniform sample becomes large.
Let $X=\{X(t), t\geq 0\}$ be a Brownian motion or a spectrally negative stable process of index $1<\a<2$. Let $E=\{E(t),t\geq 0\}$ be the hitting time of a stable subordinator of index $0<β<1$ independent of $X$. We use a connection between $X(E(t))$ and the stable subordinator of index $β/\a$ to derive information on the path behavior of $X(E_t)$. This is an extension of the connection of iterated Brownian motion and (1/4)-stable subordinator due to Bertoin \cite{bertoin}. Using this connection, we obtain various laws of the iterated logarithm for $X(E(t))$. In particular, we establish law of…
The theory of random matrices contains many central limit theorems. We have central limit theorems for eigenvalues statistics, for the log-determinant and log-permanent, for limiting distribution of individual eigenvalues in the bulk, and many others. In this notes, we discuss the following problem: Is it possible to prove the law of the iterated logarithm? We illustrate this possibility by showing that this is indeed the case for the log of the permanent of random Bernoulli matrices and pose open questions concerning several other matrix parameters.
When a Brownian motion is scaled according to the law of the iterated logarithm, its supremum converges to one as time tends to zero. Upper large deviations of the supremum process can be quantified by writing the problem in terms of hitting times and applying a result of Strassen (1967) on hitting time densities. We extend this to a small-time large deviations principle for the supremum of scaled Ito diffusions, using as our main tool a refinement of Strassen's result due to Lerche (1986).
Let $X$, $X_1$, $X_2$, $...$ be i.i.d. random variables, and let $S_n=X_1+... + X_n$ be the partial sums and $M_n=\max_{k\le n}|S_k|$ be the maximum partial sums. We give the sufficient and necessary conditions for a kind of limit theorems to hold on the convergence rate of the tail probabilities of both $S_n$ and $M_n$. These results are related to the law of the iterated logarithm. The results of Gut and Spataru (2000) are special cases of ours.
We consider the almost sure asymptotic behavior of the periodogram of stationary and ergodic sequences. Under mild conditions we establish that the limsup of the periodogram properly normalized identifies almost surely the spectral density function associated with the stationary process. Results for a specified frequency are also given. Our results also lead to the law of the iterated logarithm for the real and imaginary part of the discrete Fourier transform. The proofs rely on martingale approximations combined with results from harmonic analysis and technics from ergodic theory. Several app…
We prove a Law of Iterated Logarithm for random walks on a family of diagonal products constructed by Brieussel and Zheng (2021). This provides a wide variety of new examples of Law of Iterated Logarithm behaviours for random walks on groups. In particular, it follows that for any $\frac{1}{2}\leq β\leq 1$ there is a group $G$ and random walk $W_n$ on $G$ with $\mathbb{E}|W_n|\simeq n^β$ such that $$0<\limsup \frac{|W_n|}{n^β(\log\log n)^{1-β}}<\infty$$ and $$0<\liminf \frac{|W_n|(\log\log n)^{1-β}}{n^β}<\infty.$$
The classical law of the iterated logarithm (LIL for short)as fundamental limit theorems in probability theory play an important role in the development of probability theory and its applications. Strassen (1964) extended LIL to large classes of functional random variables, it is well known as the invariance principle for LIL which provide an extremely powerful tool in probability and statistical inference. But recently many phenomena show that the linearity of probability is a limit for applications, for example in finance, statistics. As while a nonlinear expectation--- G-expectation has att…
The exponential inequality of the maximum partial sums is a key to establish the law of the iterated logarithm of negatively associated random variables. In the one-indexed random sequence case, such inequalities for negatively associated random variables are established by Shao (2000) by using his comparison theorem between negatively associated and independent random variables. In the multi-indexed random field case, the comparison theorem fails. The purpose of this paper is to establish the Kolmogorov exponential inequality as well a moment inequality of the maximum partial sums of a negati…
In this paper, we discuss the value-distribution of the Riemann zeta-function. The authors give some results for the discrepancy estimate and large deviations in the limit theorem by Bohr and Jessen.

We give concentration bounds for martingales that are uniform over finite times and extend classical Hoeffding and Bernstein inequalities. We also demonstrate our concentration bounds to be optimal with a matching anti-concentration inequality, proved using the same method. Together these constitute a finite-time version of the law of the iterated logarithm, and shed light on the relationship between it and the central limit theorem.
Let $\{X_n;n\ge 1\}$ be a sequence of independent and identically distributed random variables on a sub-linear expectation space $(Ω,\mathscr{H},\widehat{\mathbb E})$, $S_n=X_1+\ldots+X_n$. We consider the moments of $\max_{n\ge 1}|S_n|/\sqrt{2n\log\log n}$. The sufficient and necessary conditions for the moments to be finite are given. As an application, we obtain the law of the iterated logarithm for moving average processes of independent and identically distributed random variables.
Let m be a unidimensional measure with dimension d. A natural question is to ask if the measure m is comparable with the Hausdorff measure (or the packing measure) in dimension d. We give an answer (which is in general negative) to this question in several situations (self-similar measures, quasi-Bernoulli measures). More precisely we obtain fine comparisons between the mesure m and generalized Hausdorff type (or packing type) measures. The Law of the Iterated Logarithm or estimations of the L^q-spectrum in a neighborhood of q=1 are the tools to obtain such results.
