We introduce and study certain hyperbolic versions of automorphic Lie algebras related to the modular group. Let $Γ$ be a finite index subgroup of $\mathrm{SL}(2,\mathbb{Z})$ with an action on a complex simple Lie algebra $\mathfrak g$, which can be extended to $\mathrm{SL}(2,\mathbb{C})$. We show that the Lie algebra of the corresponding $\mathfrak{g}$-valued modular forms is isomorphic to the extension of $\mathfrak{g}$ over the usual modular forms. This establishes a modular analogue of a well-known result by Kac on twisted loop algebras. The case of principal congruence subgroups $Γ(N), \, N\leq 6$ are considered in more details in relation to the classical results of Klein and Fricke and the celebrated Markov Diophantine equation. We finish with a brief discussion of the extensions and representations of these Lie algebras.
We give density results for automorphic representations of Hilbert modular groups. In particular, we show that there are infinitely many automorphic representations that have a prescribed discrete series factor at some (but not all) real places.
We review the relationship between the largest Mathieu group and various modular objects, including recent progress on the relation to mock modular forms. We also review the connections between these mathematical structures and string theory on K3 surfaces.
Let G be a connected complex simple Lie group with maximal compact subgroup U. Let g be the Lie algebra of G, and X = G/U be the associated Riemannian globally symmetric space of type IV. We have constructed three types of arithmetic uniform lattices in G, say of type 1, type 2, and type 3 respectively. If g is not equal to b_n, n>0, then for each 0<i<4, there is an arithmetic uniform torsion-free lattice Γin G which is commensurable with a lattice of type i such that the corresponding locally symmetric space Γ\ X has some non-vanishing (in the cohomology level) geometric cycles, and the Poinc…
This paper deals with the analytic continuation of holomorphic automorphic forms on a Lie group $G$. We prove that for any discrete subgroup $Γ$ of $G$ there always exists a non-trivial holomorphic automorphic form, i.e., there exists a $Γ$-spherical unitary highest weight representation of $G$. Holomorphic automorphic forms have the property that they analytically extend to holomorphic functions on a complex Ol'shanski\uı semigroup $S\subeq G_\C$. As an application we prove that the bounded holomorphic functions on $Γ\bs S\subseteq Γ\bs G_\C$ separate the points.
In this paper, we study modular forms on two simply connected groups of type $D_4$ over ${\mathbb Q}$. One group, $G_s$ is a globally split group of type $D_4$, viewed as the group of isotopies of the split rational octonions. The other, $G_c$, is the isotopy group of the rational (non-split) octonions. We study automorphic forms on $G_s$, in analogy to the work of Gross, Gan, and Savin on $G_2$; namely we study automorphic forms whose component at infinity corresponds to a quaternionic discrete series representation. We study automorphic forms on $G_c$ using Gross's formalism of ``algebraic m…
We consider modular functions (i.e., the Eisenstein series and Hecke-Maass forms) for the group PSL(2,Z). We fix a quadratic number field E. This gives rise to twisted (by a Hecke character of the field E) periods of a modular function along the torus corresponding to E. We prove meromorphic continuation for a Dirichlet series generated by these twisted periods.
Automorphic Lie Algebras arise in the context of reduction groups introduced in the late 1970s in the field of integrable systems. They are subalgebras of Lie algebras over a ring of rational functions, defined by invariance under the action of a finite group, the reduction group. Since their introduction in 2005 a classification is pursued. Past work shows remarkable uniformity between the Lie algebras associated to different reduction groups. That is, many Automorphic Lie Algebras with nonisomorphic reduction groups are isomorphic. In this thesis we set out to find the origin of these observ…
In this paper we use the quantization of fields based on Geometric Langlands Correspondence \cite{diep1} to realize the automorphic representations of some concrete series of groups: for the affine Heisenberg (loop) groups it is reduced to the construction of the affine Kac-Moody representation by the Weyl relations in Fock spaces. For the solvable and nilpotent groups following the construction we show that it is the result of applying the constructions of irreducible unitary representation via the geometric quantization and the construction of positive energy representations and finally, for…
We show that Automorphic Lie Algebras which contain a Cartan subalgebra with a constant spectrum, called hereditary, are completely described by 2-cocycles on a classical root system taking only two different values. This observation suggests a novel approach to their classification. By determining the values of the cocycles on opposite roots, we obtain the Killing form and the abelianisation of the Automorphic Lie Algebra. The results are obtained by studying equivariant vectors on the projective line. As a byproduct, we describe a method to reduce the computation of the infinite dimensional …
In this paper, we compute basis elements of certain spaces of weight 0 weakly holomorphic modular forms and consider the integrality of Fourier coefficients of the modular forms. We use the results to construct automorphic correction of the rank 2 hyperbolic Kac-Moody algebras H(a), a=4,5,6, through Hilbert modular forms explicitly given by Borcherds lifts of the weakly holomorphic modular forms. We also compute asymptotic of the Fourier coefficients as they are related to root multiplicities of the rank 2 hyperbolic Kac-Moody algebras. This work is a continuation of the previous paper, where …
In this paper, we decompose the space of nearly holomorphic Hilbert-Siegel automorphic forms as representations of the adele group under certain assumptions. We also give an application for classical holomorphic Hilbert-Siegel modular forms. In particular, we show the surjectivity of the global Siegel operator for certain congruence subgroups with large weights.
The purpose of this semi-expository article is to give another proof of a classical theorem of Shimura on the critical values of the standard L-function attached to a Hilbert modular form. Our proof is along the lines of previous work of Harder and Hida (independently). What is different is an organizational principle based on the period relations proved by Raghuram and Shahidi for periods attached to regular algebraic cuspidal automorphic representations. The point of view taken in this article is that one need only prove an algebraicity theorem for the most interesting L-value, namely, the c…
We prove a sharp bound for the average value of the triple product of modular functions for the Hecke subgroup Γ_0(N). Our result is an extension of the main result in {Bernstein&Reznikov-2004} to a fixed cuspidal representation of the adele group PGL(2,A).
In this paper we prove a general theorem about congruences between automorphic forms on a reductive group G which is compact at infinity modulo the center. If the rank is one, this essentially reduces to Ribet's level-raising theorem. We then specialize to the higher rank case where G is an inner form of GSp(4). Here we get congruences with automorphic forms having a generic local component. In particular, a Saito-Kurokawa form is congruent to a form which is not of Saito-Kurokawa type. We get similar results for U(3) at split primes.
We consider the problem of explicitly computing dimensions of spaces of automorphic or modular forms in level one, for a split classical group $\mathbf{G}$ over $\mathbb{Q}$ such that $\mathbf{G}(\R)$ has discrete series. Our main contribution is an algorithm calculating orbital integrals for the characteristic function of $\mathbf{G}(\mathbb{Z}_p)$ at torsion elements of $\mathbf{G}(\mathbb{Q}_p)$. We apply it to compute the geometric side in Arthur's specialisation of his invariant trace formula involving stable discrete series pseudo-coefficients for $\mathbf{G}(\mathbb{R})$. Therefore we e…
In this paper we study rank two symmetric hyperbolic Kac-Moody algebras H(a) and their automorphic correction in terms of Hilbert modular forms. We associate a family of H(a)'s to the quadratic field Q(p) for each odd prime p and show that there exists a chain of embeddings in each family. When p = 5, 13, 17, we show that the first H(a) in each family, i.e. H(3), H(11), H(66), is contained in a generalized Kac-Moody superalgebra whose denominator function is a Hilbert modular form given by a Borcherds product. Hence, our results provide automorphic correction for those H(a)'s. We also compute …
The goal of this paper is to provide a complete and refined study of the standard $L$-functions $L(π,\operatorname{Std},s)$ for certain non-generic cuspidal automorphic representations $π$ of $G_2(\mathbb{A})$. For a cuspidal automorphic representation $π$ of $G_2(\mathbb{A})$ that corresponds to a modular form $φ$ of level one and of even weight on $G_2$, we explicitly define the completed standard $L$-function, $Λ(π,\operatorname{Std},s)$. Assuming that a certain Fourier coefficient of $φ$ is nonzero, we prove the functional equation $Λ(π,\operatorname{Std},s) = Λ(π,\operatorname{Std},1-s)$.…
We give a fully explicit description of Lie algebra derivatives (generalizing raising and lowering operators) for representations of SL(3,R) in terms of a basis of Wigner functions. This basis is natural from the point of view of principal series representations, as well as computations in the analytic theory of automorphic forms (e.g., with Whittaker functions). The method is based on the Clebsch-Gordan multiplication rule for Wigner functions, and applies to other Lie groups whose maximal compact subgroup is isogenous to a product of SU(2) and U(1) factors. As an application, we give a compl…
Mazur's principle gives a criterion under which an irreducible mod $\ell$ Galois representation arising from a modular form of level $Np$ (with $p$ prime to $N$) can also arise from a modular form of level $N.$ We prove an analogous result showing that a mod $\ell$ Galois representation arising from a stable cuspidal automorphic representation of the unitary similitude group $G=\mathrm{GU}(1,2)$ which is Steinberg at an inert prime $p$ can also arise from an automorphic representation of $G$ that is unramified at $p$.
Let E/Q be a real quadratic field and pi_0 a cuspidal, irreducible, automorphic representation of GL(2,A_E) with trivial central character and infinity type (2,2n+2) for some non-negative integer n. We show that there exists a non-zero Siegel paramodular newform F with weight, level, Hecke eigenvalues, epsilon factor and L-function determined explicitly by pi_0. We tabulate these invariants in terms of those of pi_0 for every rational prime p.
In this paper we construct smooth cuspidal automorphic forms related to integrable discrete series of a connected semisimple Lie group with finite center for classical and adelic situation as an application of the theory of Schwartz spaces for automorphic forms developed by Casselman. In the classical situation, smooth cuspidal automorphic forms are constructed via an explicit continuous map from the Frech\' et space of smooth vectors of a Banach realization inside $L^1(G)$ of an integrable discrete series into the space of smooth vectors of a strong topological dual of an appropriate Schwartz…
We give a Rankin-Selberg integral representation for the Spin (degree eight) $L$-function on $\mathrm{PGSp}_6$. The integral applies to the cuspidal automorphic representations associated to Siegel modular forms. If $π$ corresponds to a level one Siegel modular form $f$ of even weight, and if $f$ has a non-vanishing maximal Fourier coefficient (defined below), then we deduce the functional equation and finiteness of poles of the completed Spin $L$-function $Λ(π,Spin,s)$ of $π$.

We investigate Fourier coefficients of automorphic forms on split simply-laced Lie groups G. We show that for automorphic representations of small Gelfand-Kirillov dimension the Fourier coefficients are completely determined by certain degenerate Whittaker vectors on G. Although we expect our results to hold for arbitrary simply-laced groups, we give complete proofs only for G=SL(3) and G=SL(4). This is based on a method of Ginzburg that associates Fourier coefficients of automorphic forms with nilpotent orbits of G. Our results complement and extend recent results of Miller and Sahi. We also …
