We obtain precise temperature dependence of three transport coefficients that resembles strange metal: (a) longitudinal electrical conductivity (b) longitudinal thermoelectric conductivity (c) longitudinal thermal conductivity in the absence of magnetic field. This is achieved through one parameter, namely, when the dynamical exponent, $z=4$. Moreover, in the presence of magnetic field, we have cooked up a model where it exhibits the desired temperature dependence of the four transport quantities that resembles strange metal.
We construct a Dirac-Born-Infeld (DBI) action coupled to a two-form field in four dimensional $\mathcal{N}=1$ supergravity. Our superconformal formulation of the action shows a universal way to construct it in various Poincaré supergravity formulations. We generalize the DBI action to that coupled to matter sector. We also discuss duality transformations of the DBI action, which are useful for phenomenological and cosmological applications.
We construct the Dirac-Born-Infeld (DBI) action of a real linear multiplet in 4D $\mathcal{N}=1$ supergravity. Based on conformal supergravity, we derive the general condition under which the DBI action can be realized, and show that it can be constructed in the new minimal supergravity. We also generalize it to the matter coupled system.
By explicit calculations of four-field couplings, we observe that the higher derivative corrections to the DBI action in flat space-time, can be either in a covariant form or in a T-duality invariant form. The two forms are related by a non-covariant field redefinition. Using this observation, we then propose a non-covariant but T-duality invariant action which includes all orders of massless fields and has two extra derivatives with respect to the DBI action.
Recently a modification of the tachyon DBI action has been proposed in which the tachyon carries the internal CP matrix σ_1 and σ_2. In this paper, we find the momentum expansion of the disk level S-matrix element of four tachyons and one gauge field in superstring theory and show that the first and second order terms of the expansion are in perfect agreement with the above tachyon DBI action.
We show that a low-energy action for massless fluctuations around a tachyonic soliton background representing a codimension one D-brane coincides with the Dirac-Born-Infeld action. The scalar modes which describe transverse oscillations of the D-brane are translational collective coordinates of the soliton. The appearance of the DBI action is a universal feature independent of details of a tachyon effective action, provided it has the structure implied by the open string sigma model partition function.
In this paper we study the non-maximally symmetric D-branes on the SU(2) group discussed in a previous article (hep-th/0205097). Using the two-form defined in hep-th/0205097 the DBI action on the branes is constructed. This action is checked for its agreement with CFT predictions. The geometry of the branes is analyzed in detail, and the singularities of branes covering the entire group are found.
We consider Euclidean D4 and D6-branes filling the whole ${\bf R}^4$ and ${\bf R}^6$ space, respectively. In both cases, with a constant background B-field turned on for D4-branes, we propose actions which are the same as the DBI actions up to some constant or total derivative terms. These extra terms allow us to write the action as a square of nonlinear instanton equations. As such, the actions can easily be supersymmetrized using the methods of topological field theory.
We study the effective action for finite-temperature D3-branes with an electromagnetic field at weak and strong coupling. We call this action the thermal DBI action. Comparing at low temperature the leading $T^4$ correction for the thermal DBI action at weak and strong coupling we find that the $3/4$ factor well-known from the AdS/CFT correspondence extends to the case of arbitrary electric and magnetic fields on the D3-brane. We investigate the reason for this by taking the decoupling limit in both the open and the closed string descriptions thus showing that the AdS/CFT correspondence extend…
Brane-like vertex operators play an important role in a worldsheet formulation of D-branes and M-theory. In this paper we derive the DBI D-brane action from NSR closed string sigma-model with brane-like states. We also show that these operators carry RR charges and define D-brane wavefunctions in a second quantized formalism.
We apply the procedure that was suggested in [arXiv:0806.1639] to the case of abelian D2-brane Dirac-Born-Infeld effective action and discuss its limitation. Then we suggest an alternative form of this procedure that is based on an existence of interpolating action proposed in [hep-th/9707113,hep-th/9707011].
Using properties of the DBI action we find D-branes on $S^3$ of the radius $Q_5$ corresponding to the conjugacy classes of SU(2). The branes are stable due to nonzero 2-form NSNS background. In the limit of large $Q_5$ the dynamics of branes is governed by the non-commutative Yang-Mills theory. The results partially overlap with those obtained in the recent paper hep-th/0003037.
We use the compatibility of D-brane action with linear off-shell T-duality and linear on-shell S-duality as guiding principles to find all world volume couplings of one massless closed and three massless open strings at order $α'^2$ in type II superstring theories in flat space-time.
We perform three tests on our proposal to implement diffeomorphism invariance in the non-abelian D0-brane DBI action as a basepoint independence constraint between matrix Riemann normal coordinate systems. First we show that T-duality along an isometry correctly interchanges the potential and kinetic terms in the action. Second, we show that the method to impose basepoint independence using an auxiliary dN^2-dimensional non-linear sigma model also works for metrics which are curved along the brane, provided a physical gauge choice is made at the end. Third, we show that without alteration this…
We consider solitonic solutions of the DBI tachyon effective action for a non-BPS brane in the presence of an electric field. We find that for a constant electric field $\tilde E\le 1$, regular solitons compactified on a circle admit a singular and decompactified limit corresponding to Sen's proposal provided the tachyon potential satisfies some restrictions. On the other hand for the critical electric field $\tilde E=1$, regular and finite energy solitons are constructed without any restriction on the potential.
The Dirac action describes the physics of the Nambu-Goldstone scalars found on branes. The Born-Infeld action defines a non-linear theory of electrodynamics. The combined Dirac-Born-Infeld (DBI) action describes the leading interactions supported on a single D-brane in string theory. We define a non-abelian analogue of DBI using the $T \overline{T}$ deformation in two dimensions. The resulting quantum theory is compatible with maximal supersymmetry and such theories are quite rare.
It is known that D$_p$-brane effective action at the leading order of $α'$ in flat space-time which is given by DBI action, transforms to D$_{p-1}$-brane effective action under standard T-duality transformations of the open string gauge bosons and transverse scalar fields. Extending this duality to order $α'$, one may find corrections to the DBI action which include the second fundamental form $Ω$ and the covariant derivative of gauge field strength $DF$, as well as the corrections to the T-duality transformations. Using this idea, up to two parameters, we have found all 81 covariant couplings…
In this article we study the noncommutative description of the DBI Lagrangian and its T-dual counterpart. We restrict the freedoms of the noncommutativity parameters of these Lagrangians. Therefore the noncommutativity parameter, the effective metric, the effective coupling constant of the string and the extra modulus ${\tilde Φ}$ of the effective T-dual theory, can be expressed in terms of the closed string variables $g$, $B$, $g_s$ and the noncommutativity parameter of the effective theory of open string.
The assumptions behind the recently conjectured relation between gauge theory and supergravity are elaborated on. It is pointed out that the scaling limit that preserves supergravity solutions, gives the entire DBI action on the gauge theory side, but in the low energy limit the relation between the conformal field theory and Anti-de Sitter supergravity emerges. We also argue that recent work on these issues may help in understanding the physics of five (four) dimensional black hole with three (four) charges in the so-called dilute gas region.
We show the equivalence between the supertube solutions with an arbitrary cross section in two different actions, the DBI action for the D2-brane and the matrix model action for the D0-branes. More precisely, the equivalence between the supertubes in the D2-brane picture and the D0-brane picture is shown in the boundary state formalism which is valid for all order in α'. This is an application of the method using the infinitely many D0-branes and anti-D0-branes which was used to show other equivalence relations between two seemingly different D-brane systems, including the D-brane realization …
We apply the prescription proposed in hep-th/0307197 for non-abelian expansion of S-matrix elements, to the S-matrix element of four tachyons and one gauge field in superstring theory. We show that the leading order terms of the expansion are in perfect agreement with the non-abelian generalization of the tachyon DBI action in which the tachyon potential is $V(T)=1+πα' m^2T^2+\frac{1}{2!}(πα' m^2T^2)^2+...$ where $m^2=-1/(2α')$ is the mass of tachyon. This calculation fixes the coefficient of $T^4$ in the potential without on-shell ambiguity.
The Tachyon-Dirac-Born-Infeld (TDBI) action captures some aspects of the dynamics of non-BPS D-branes in type II string theory. We show that it can also be used to study the classical interactions of BPS branes and antibranes. Our analysis sheds light on real time D-Dbar tachyon condensation, on the proposal that the tachyon field can be thought of as an extra spatial dimension whose role is similar to the radial direction in holography, and on A. Sen's open string completeness conjecture.
We study fluctuations of time-dependent fuzzy two-sphere solutions of the non-abelian DBI action of D0-branes, describing a bound state of a spherical D2-brane with N D0-branes. The quadratic action for small fluctuations is shown to be identical to that obtained from the dual abelian D2-brane DBI action, using the non-commutative geometry of the fuzzy two-sphere. For some of the fields, the linearized equations take the form of solvable Lamé equations. We define a large-N DBI-scaling limit, with vanishing string coupling and string length, and where the gauge theory coupling remains finite. I…
We study the generalized Dirac-Born-Infeld (DBI) action, which describes a $q$-brane ending on a $p$-brane with a ($q$+1)-form background. This action has the equivalent descriptions in commutative and non-commutative settings, which can be shown from the generalized metric and Nambu-Sigma model. We mainly discuss the dimensional reduction of the generalized DBI at the massless level on the flat spacetime and constant antisymmetric background in the case of flat spacetime, constant antisymmetric background and the gauge potential vanishes for all time-like components. In the case of $q=2$, we …
We study $J$-kink domain walls in $D=4$ massive $\mathbb{C}P^1$ sigma model. The domain walls are not static but stationary, since they rotate in an internal $S^1$ space with a frequency $ω$ and a momentum ${\bf k}$ along the domain wall. They are characterized by a conserved current $J_μ= (Q,{\bf J})$, and are classified into magnetic ($J^2 < 0$), null ($J^2=0$), and electric ($J^2 > 0$) types. Under a natural assumption that a low energy effective action of the domain wall is dual to the $D=4$ DBI action for a membrane, we are lead to a coincidence between the $J$-kink domain wall and the me…
We introduce a calculus of the Lie algebra valued functions present in Tseytlin's proposal for the nonabelian DBI action, and apply it to show that the recently found dyonic instanton is a solution of the full nonabelian DBI action. The geometry of this solution exhibits a new effect of ``blowing-up'' of the brane, which was not present in the case of the brane realisation of monopoles. We interpret this solution as the superposition of the D0 brane and fundamental string F1 which connects two separated D4 branes. Both F1 and D0 are delocalised in the ``blown-up'' region between two separated …
Starting from the usual bosonic membrane action, we develop the geometry suitable for the description of $p$-brane backgrounds. Using the tools of generalized geometry we derive the generalization of string open-closed relations. Nambu-Poisson structures are used to generalize the concept of semiclassical noncommutativity of $D$-branes governed by Poisson tensor. We naturally describe the correspondence of recently proposed commutative and noncommutative versions of an effective action for $p$-branes ending on a $p'$-brane. We calculate the power series expansion of the action in background in…
In this paper we study the action for N D0-branes in a curved background. In particular, we focus on the meaning of space-time diffeomorphism invariance. For a single D-brane, diffeomorphism invariance acts in a naive way on the world-volume fields, but for multiple D-branes, the meaning of diffeomorphism invariance is much more obscure. The problem goes beyond the determination of an ordering of the U(N)-valued fields, because one can show that there is no lift of ordinary diffeomorphisms to matrix-valued diffeomorphisms. On the other hand, the action can presumably be constructed from pertur…
We study the action of the $SL(2;R)$ group on the noncommutative DBI Lagrangian. The symmetry conditions of this theory under the above group will be obtained. These conditions determine the extra U(1) gauge field. By introducing some consistent relations we observe that the noncommutative (or ordinary) DBI Lagrangian and its $SL(2;R)$ dual theory are dual of each other. Therefore, we find some $SL(2;R)$ invariant equations. In this case the noncommutativity parameter, its $T$-dual and its $SL(2;R)$ dual versions are expressed in terms of each other. Furthermore, we show that on the effective …
Recently, it has been observed that in a T-duality invariant world-volume theory in flat spacetime, all orders of gauge field strength and all orders of the D-brane velocity appear in two specific matrices. Using these two matrices, we construct the world-volume couplings of two massless NSNS states at order $α'^2$ and all orders of the velocity and the gauge field strength, by requiring them to be invariant under the linear T-duality. The standard extension $F\rightarrow F+P[B]$, then produces all orders of the pull-back of B-field into the action. We compare the resulting couplings for zero …
In this letter we present a new N-flation model constructed by making use of multiple scalar fields which are being described by their own DBI action. We show that the dependence of the e-folding number and of the curvature perturbation on the number of fields changes compared with the normal N-flation model. Our model is also quite different from the usual DBI N-flation which is still based on one DBI action but involves many moduli components. Some specific examples of our model have been analyzed.
We study the way Lorentz covariance can be reconstructed from Matrix Theory as a IMF description of M-theory. The problem is actually related to the interplay between a non abelian Dirac-Born-Infeld action and Super-Yang-Mills as its generalized non-relativistic approximation. All this physics shows up by means of an analysis of the asymptotic expansion of the Bessel functions $K_ν$ that profusely appear in the computations of amplitudes at finite temperature and solitonic calculations. We hope this might help to better understand the issue of getting a Lorentz covariant formulation in relatio…
We investigate magnetic monopole solutions of the non-abelian DBI action describing 2 coincident non-BPS D9-branes in flat space. Just as in the case of kink and vortex solitonic tachyon solutions of the full DBI non-BPS actions, as previously analyzed by Sen, these monopole configurations are singular in the first instance and require regularization. We discuss a suitable non-abelian ansatz and show it solves the equations of motion to leading order in the regularization parameter. Fluctuations are studied and shown to describe a codimension 3 BPS D6-brane. A formula is derived for its tensio…
In this paper we investigate about several configurations of two intersecting branes at arbitrary angles. We choose the viewpoint of a brane source and a brane probe and use the low-energy dynamics of p-branes. For each p-brane this dynamics is governed by a generic DBI action including a WZ term, which couples to the SUGRA background of the other brane. The analysis naturally reveals two types of configurations: the ``marginal'' and the ``non-marginal'' ones. We specify possible configurations for a pair of similar or non-similar branes in either of these two categories. In particular, for tw…
We argue that the Dirac-Born-Infeld (DBI) action coupled to a tachyon, that is known to reproduce some aspects of open string dynamics, can be obtained from open string theory in a certain limit, which generalizes the limit leading to the usual DBI action. This helps clarify which aspects of the full open string theory are captured by this action.
We present dyon solutions to an SU(2) Dirac-Born-Infeld (DBI) gauge theory coupled to a Higgs triplet. We consider different non-Abelian extensions of the DBI action and study the resulting solutions numerically, comparing them with the standard Julia-Zee dyons. We discuss the existence of a critical value of $β$, the Born-Infeld absolute field parameter, below which the solution ceases to exist. We also analyse the effect of modifying the DBI action so as to include the analogous of the $θ$ term, showing that Witten formula for the dyon charge also holds in DBI theories.
The characterization of the DBI action of a Dp-brane using the generalized geometry is discussed. It is shown that the DBI action is invariant under the diffeomorphism and B-transformation of the generalized tangent bundle of the target space. The symmetry is realized non-linearly on the fluctuation of the D-brane.
In a previous paper (hep-th/0304045) it has been argued that tachyonic Dirac-Born-Infeld (DBI) actions can be obtained from open string theory in a limit, which generalizes the usual massless DBI limit. In the present note we review this construction focusing on a key property of the proposed tachyon effective actions: how they reproduce appropriate Veneziano amplitudes in a suitably defined kinematical region. Possible extensions and interesting open problems are briefly discussed.
We investigate the inflation model with a massive vector multiplet in a case that the action of the vector multiplet is extended to the Dirac-Born-Infeld (DBI) type one. We show the massive DBI action in 4 dimensional ${\cal N}=1$ supergravity, and find that the higher order corrections associated with the DBI-extension make the scalar potential flat with a simple choice of the matter couplings. We also discuss the DBI-extension of the new minimal Starobinsky model, and find that it is dual to a special class of the massive DBI action.
We quantize the deformed modes of a single supertube solution with regular profile of circular cross section on the unstable non-BPS D3-branes by using the Minahan-Zwiebach tachyon action. The result is used to count the microstates in an ensemble of supertube with fixed macroscopic quantities of charges $Q_{D0}$, $Q_{F1}$ and angular momentum $J$. We show that the entropy of the system is proportional to $\sqrt{Q_{D0}Q_{F1} - J}$, which is consistent with that calculated by the DBI action. Therefore, besides the well known properties that the kink solution (and its fluctuation) of tachyon DBI…
We propose the Starobinsky-type inflationary model in the matter-coupled $N=1$ four-dimensional supergravity with the massive vector multiplet that has inflaton (scalaron) and goldstino amongst its field components, whose action includes the Dirac-Born-Infeld-type kinetic term and the generalized (new) Fayet-Iliopoulos-type term, without gauging the R-symmetry. The $N=1$ chiral matter ("hidden sector") is described by the modified Polonyi model needed for spontaneous supersymmetry breaking after inflation. We compute the bosonic action and the scalar potential of the model, and show that it ca…
We examine the proposal for constructing the effective action of a D-brane-anti-D-brane system from the non-abelian extension of tachyon DBI action. We consider two prescriptions for the trace in the non-abelian tachyon DBI action. The usual trace and the symmetric trace prescription. The former gives an action for the D\bar{D} system which reduces to the action proposed by A.Sen for coincident branes. The latter gives a different action which is consistent with the S-matrix element calculations.
The Dirac-Born-Infeld (DBI) field theory in string theory is important and can provide the field of the universe's inflation. At the same time, it provides a causal mechanism for generating the original density perturbation, thereby providing the necessary density perturbation for existing the dense and sparse matter distributions of the universe. However, there is the paradox of the conversion of potential energy and kinetic energy in equal rights in string theory. Therefore, we give a new general DBI action, which enables the kinetic energy and potential energy in the action to be converted …
A collapsing spherical D2-brane carrying magnetic flux can be described in the region of small radius in a dual zero-brane picture using Tseytlin's proposal for a non-Abelian Dirac-Born-Infeld action for N D0-branes. A standard large N approximation of the D0-brane action, familiar from the brane dielectric effect, gives a time evolution which agrees with the Abelian D2-brane Born-Infeld equations which describe a D2-brane collapsing to zero size. The first 1/N correction from the symmetrised trace prescription in the zero-brane action leads to a class of classical solutions where the minimum …
Cosmological constant behavior can be realized as solutions of the Dirac-Born-Infeld (DBI) action within Type IIB string theory and the AdS/CFT correspondence. We derive a family of attractor solutions to the cosmological constant that arise purely from the "relativistic" nature of the DBI action without an explicit false vacuum energy. We also find attractor solutions with values of the equation of state near but with $w\ne-1$; the forms for the potential arising from flux interactions are renormalizable and natural, and the D3-brane tension can be given by the standard throat form. We discus…
We use the DBI action from string theory and holography to study the magneto-resistance at quantum criticality with hyperscaling violation. We find and analyze a rich class of scaling behaviors for the magneto-resistance. A special case describes the scaling results found in pnictides by Hayers et al. in~\cite{analytis}.
We study the Dirac-Born-Infeld (DBI) action with one linear and one non-linear supersymmetry in the presence of a constant Fayet-Iliopoulos (FI) D-term added explicitly or through a deformation of supersymmetry transformations. The linear supersymmetry appears to be spontaneously broken since the D auxiliary field gets a non-vanishing vacuum expectation value and an extra term proportional to the FI parameter involving fermions emerges in the non-linear formulation of the action written recently. However in this note, we show that on-shell this action is equivalent to a standard supersymmetric…
The Dirac-Born-Infeld (DBI) action has been widely studied as an interesting example of a model of k-inflation in which the sound speed of the cosmological perturbations differs from unity. In this article we consider a scalar-tensor theory in which the matter component is a field with a DBI action. Transforming to the Einstein frame, we explore the effect of the resulting coupling on the background dynamics of the fields and the first-order perturbations. We find that the coupling forces the scalar field into the minimum of its effective potential. While the additional scalar field contribute…
We present several classes of solitons in ($1+1$)-dimensional models where the standard canonical kinetic term is replaced by a Dirac-Born-Infeld (DBI) one. These are static solutions with finite energy and different properties, namely, they can have compact support, or be kink or lump-like, according to the type of potential chosen, which depend on the DBI parameter $β$. Through a combination of numerical and analytical arguments, by which the equation of motion is seen as that corresponding to \emph{another} canonical model with a new $β$-dependent potential and a $β$-deformed energy density…
We study a systematic derivation of four dimensional $\mathcal{N}=1$ supersymmetric effective theory from ten dimensional non-Abelian Dirac-Born-Infeld action compactified on a six dimensional torus with magnetic fluxes on the D-branes. We find a new type of matter Kähler metric while gauge kinetic function and superpotential are consistent with previous studies. For the ten dimensional action, we use a symmetrized trace prescription and focus on the bosonic part up to $\mathcal{O}(F^4)$. In the presence of the supersymmetry, four dimensional chiral fermions can be obtained via index theorem. …
The RG flow equation of various transport quantities are studied in arbitrary spacetime dimensions, in the fixed as well as fluctuating background geometry both for the Maxwellian and DBI type of actions. The regularity condition on the flow equation of the conductivity at the horizon for the DBI action reproduces naturally the leading order result of {\it Hartnoll et al.}, [{\it JHEP}, {\bf 04}, 120 (2010)]. Motivated by the result of {\it van der Marel et al.}, [{\it science}, {\bf 425}, 271 (2003], we studied, analytically, the conductivity versus frequency plane by dividing it into three d…
We employ gauge-gravity duality to study the backreaction effect of 4-dimensional large-$N$ quantum field theories on constant-curvature backgrounds, and in particular de Sitter space-time. The field theories considered are holographic QFTs, dual to RG flows between UV and IR CFTs. We compute the holographic QFT contribution to the gravitational effective action for 4d Einstein manifold backgrounds. We find that for a given value of the cosmological constant $λ$, there generically exist two backreacted constant-curvature solutions, as long as $λ< λ_{\textrm{max}} \sim M_p^2 / N^2$, otherwise n…
We study multi-field Dirac-Born-Infeld (DBI) inflation models, taking into account the NS-NS and R-R bulk fields present in generic flux compactifications. We compute the second-order action, which governs the behaviour of linear cosmological perturbations, as well as the third-order action, which can be used to calculate non-Gaussianities in these models. Remarkably, for scalar-type perturbations, we show that the contributions due to the various form fields exactly cancel in both the second- and third-order actions. Primordial perturbations and their non-Gaussianities are therefore unaffecte…
We use on-shell amplitude methods to systematically analyze the possibility of extended supersymmetry for 4d Galileon models, expanding on previous $\mathcal{N}=1$ results. Assuming spins $\le 1$, we prove that there exists no $\mathcal{N}=4$ supersymmetric extension of any 4d Galileons. Thus the Galileons cannot be part of the effective action of a single flat maximally supersymmetric D3-brane, and that explains why such terms do not appear in the $α'$-expansion of the abelian open superstring amplitude. For $\mathcal{N}=2$ Galileons, we show that the complex scalar $Z = ϕ+ i χ$ of the vector…
We show that higher-order actions for cosmological perturbations in the multi-field DBI-inflation model are obtained by a Lorentz boost from the rest frame of the brane to the frame where the brane is moving. We confirm that this simple method provides the same third- and fourth- order actions at leading order in slow-roll and in the small sound speed limit as those obtained by the usual ADM formalism. As an application, we compute the leading order connected four-point function of the primordial curvature perturbation coming from the intrinsic fourth-order contact interaction in the multi-fie…
Noncommutative torus compactification of Matrix model is shown to be a direct consequence of quantization of the open strings attached to a D-membrane with a non-vanishing background $B$ field. We calculate the BPS spectrum of such a brane system using both string theory results and DBI action. The DBI action leads to a new transformation property of the compactification radii under the $SL(2,Z)_N$ transformations.
The Dirac-Born-Infeld (DBI) action from string theory provides several new classes of dark energy behavior beyond quintessence due to its relativistic kinematics. We constrain parameters of natural potentials and brane tensions with cosmological observations as well as showing how to design these functions for a desired expansion history. We enlarge the attractor solutions, including new ways of obtaining cosmological constant behavior, to the case of generalized DBI theory with multiple branes. An interesting novel signature of DBI attractors is that the sound speed is driven to zero, unlike …
Using the compatibility of the DBI and the Chern-Simons actions with the T-duality transformations, the curvature corrections to these actions have been recently extended to include the quadratic B-field couplings at order $O(α'^2)$. In this paper, we use the compatibility of the couplings on D$_3$-brane with the S-duality to find the nonlinear RR couplings at order $O(α'^2)$. We confirm the quadratic RR couplings in the DBI part with the disk-level scattering amplitude. Using the regularized non-holomorphic Eisenstein series $E_1$, we then write the results in $SL(2,Z)$ invariant form.
In this paper we study a new class of inflation models which generalize the Dirac-Born-Infeld (DBI) action with the addition of a nonminimal kinetic coupling (NKC) term. We dubbed this model as the {\it new DBI inflation model}. The NKC term does not bring new dynamical degree of freedom, so the equations of motion remain of second order. However, with such a coupling, the action is no longer linear with respect to the Einstein curvature term ($R$ or $G^{μν}$), which leads to a correction term of $k^4$ in the perturbations. The new DBI inflation model can be viewed as theories beyond Horndeski…
By calculating various disk level S-matrix elements and studying in details their momentum expansions, we have extracted some of the couplings in tachyon DBI action and Wess-Zumino terms of the non-BPS branes, and their higher derivative corrections. In particular, we have found that there is exact consistency between field theory and string theory tachyon pole of S-matrix element of one RR and three tachyons provided that one takes into account the fact that the tachyon vertex operator in 0 picture to be along the Pauli matrix $σ_1$ whereas the tachyon in -1 picture to be along the $σ_2$ dire…
