We perform a comprehensive study of collider aspects of a Higgs portal scenario that is protected by an unbroken ${\mathbb{Z}}_2$ symmetry. If the mass of the Higgs portal scalar is larger than half the Higgs mass, this scenario becomes very difficult to detect. We provide a detailed investigation of the model's parameter space based on analyses of the direct collider sensitivity at the LHC as well as at future lepton and hadron collider concepts and analyse the importance of these searches for this scenario in the context of expected precision Higgs and electroweak measurements. In particular we also consider the associated electroweak oblique corrections that we obtain in a first dedicated two-loop calculation for comparisons with the potential of, e.g., GigaZ. The currently available collider projections corroborate an FCC-hh 100 TeV as a very sensitive tool to search for such a weakly-coupled Higgs sector extension, driven by small statistical uncertainties over a large range of energy coverage. Crucially, however, this requires good theoretical control. Alternatively, Higgs signal-strength measurements at an optimal FCC-ee sensitivity level could yield comparable constraints.
In a number of Higgs-portal models, an $SU(2)$ isospin-singlet scalar boson generically appears at the electroweak scale and can mix with the Standard Model (SM) Higgs boson with a mixing angle $α$. This singlet scalar boson can have renormalizable couplings to a pair of dark matter particles, vectorlike leptons or quarks, or new gauge bosons, thereby modifying the Higgs signal strengths in a nontrivial way. In this work, we perform global fits to such models using the most updated LHC Higgs-boson data and discuss the corresponding implications on Higgs-portal-type models. In particular we fin…
The hypothesis of dark matter interacting with the standard model uniquely via the Higgs portal is severely challenged by experiments. However, if dark matter is a fermion, the Higgs-portal interaction implies the presence of mediators, which can change the phenomenology significantly. This article discusses the impact of weakly-interacting mediators on the dark-matter relic abundance, direct detection, and collider searches. At the LHC, a typical signature of Higgs-portal fermion dark matter features soft leptons and missing energy, similarly to gaugino production in models with supersymmetry…
Mono-$X$ signatures are a powerful collider probe of the nature of dark matter. We show that mono-Higgs and mono-$Z$ may be key signatures of pseudo-scalar portal interactions between dark matter and the SM. We demonstrate this using a simple renormalizable version of the portal, with a Two-Higgs-Doublet-Model as electroweak symmetry breaking sector. Mono-$Z$ and mono-Higgs signatures in this scenario are of resonant type, which constitutes a novel type of dark matter signature at LHC.
We study the Higgs portal from the Standard-Model to a hidden sector and examine which elements of the extended theory can be discovered and explored at the LHC. Our model includes two Higgs bosons covering parameter regions where the LHC will be sensitive to two, one or none of the particles at typical discovery luminosities for Standard Model Higgs production.
Higgs portal dark matter (DM) models are simple interesting and viable DM models. There are three types of the models depending on the DM spin: scalar, fermion and vector DM models. In this paper, we consider renormalizable, unitary and gauge invariant Higgs portal DM models, and study how large parameter regions can be surveyed at the International Linear Collider (ILC) experiment at $\sqrt{s}=500$ GeV. For the Higgs portal singlet fermion and vector DM cases, the force mediator involves two scalar propagators, the SM-like Higgs boson and the dark Higgs boson. We show that their interference …
As an educational aid and source for expert information, a web portal dedicated to Higgs boson research is presented. A database is created with more than 1000 relevant articles using CERN Document Server API and web scraping methods. The database is automatically updated when new results on the Higgs boson become available. Using artificial intelligence and natural language processing, the articles are categorized according to properties of the Higgs boson and other criteria. The process of designing and implementing the Higgs Boson Portal (HBP) is described. The components of the HBP are dep…
This article is an addendum to Ref.~\cite{Baek:2014jga}. Here, we discuss the invisible Higgs decay width $Γ_{h}^{\rm inv}$ in the Higgs portal vector dark matter (VDM) model in the limit $m_V \rightarrow 0^+$. In the effective field theory (EFT) approach where the VDM mass is attributed to the Stückelberg mechanism, $( Γ_{h}^{\rm inv} )_{\rm EFT}$ is divergent, which is unphysical and puzzling. On the other hand $( Γ_{h}^{\rm inv} )_{\rm UV}$ becomes finite in a UV completion, where the VDM mass is generated by the dark Higgs mechanism. Then we can take the limit $m_V \rightarrow 0^+$ by taki…
A coupling of a scalar, charged under an unbroken global U(1) symmetry, to the Standard Model via the Higgs portal is one of the simplest gateways to a dark sector. Yet, for masses $m_{S}\geq m_{H}/2$ there are few probes of such an interaction. In this note we evaluate the sensitivity to the Higgs portal coupling of di-Higgs boson production at the LHC as well as at a future high energy hadron collider, FCC-hh, taking into account the full momentum dependence of the process. This significantly impacts the sensitivity compared to estimates of changes in the Higgs-coupling based on the effectiv…
We develop a phenomenological formalism for mixing effects between the Standard Model and hidden-sector fields, motivated by dark matter in the Universe as well as string theories. The scheme includes multiple Higgs-portal interactions in the scalar sector as well as multiple gauge-kinetic mixings in the abelian gauge sector. While some of the mixing effects can be cast in closed form, other elements can be controlled analytically only by means of perturbative expansions in the ratio of standard scales over large hidden scales. Higgs and vector-boson masses and mixings are illustrated numerica…
A Higgs portal in the form of the operator $|H|^2$ provides a minimal and theoretically motivated link between the Standard Model (SM) and new physics. While Higgs portals can be constrained well by exotic Higgs decays if the beyond-the-SM states are light, testing scenarios where these particles are kinematically inaccessible is known to be challenging. We explore the sensitivity of future hadron collider measurements of $ZZ \to 4 \ell$ production in constraining Higgs portal interactions. It is shown that by using a matrix-element based kinematic discriminant the reach of the high-luminosity…
In Higgs portal models of fermion dark matter, scalar couplings are unavoidably suppressed by strong bounds from direct detection experiments. As a consequence, thermal dark matter relics must coexist with mediators in a compressed spectrum of dark particles. Small couplings and small mass splittings lead to slow mediator decays, leaving signatures with displaced vertices or disappearing tracks at colliders. We perform a comprehensive analysis of long-lived mediators at the LHC in the context of a minimal dark matter model with a naturally small Higgs portal, also known as the wino-bino scenar…
We investigate the indirect signatures of the Higgs portal $U(1)_X$ vector dark matter (VDM) $X_μ$ from both its pair annihilation and decay. The VDM is stable at renormalizable level by $Z_2$ symmetry, and thermalized by Higgs-portal interactions. It can also decay by some nonrenormalizable operators with very long lifetime at cosmological time scale. If dim-6 operators for VDM decays are suppressed by $10^{16}$ GeV scale, the lifetime of VDM with mass $\sim$ 2 TeV is just right for explaining the positron excess in cosmic ray recent observed by PAMELA and AMS02 Collaborations. The VDM decayi…
We introduce a light dark photon $A_μ^\prime$ to the minimal Higgs portal model, by coupling the Higgs boson to "dark QED" containing fermionic dark matter, which gives rise to rich and interesting collider phenomenology. There are two prominent features in such a simple extension -- the Higgs boson could have decays into the long-lived dark photon through the "mono-$A^\prime$ channel," or into multiple collimated leptons via "darkonium," depending on the mixing parameter of the $A_μ^\prime$ with the visible photon. We initiate a study on the possibility of probing the parameter space of the m…
A Higgs portal dark matter model for explaining the gamma-ray excess from the galactic center can be realized with the extension of local $SU(2)_X$ gauge symmetry with one quadruplet. Due to the residual $Z_3$ discrete symmetry of $SU(2)_X$, the new gauge bosons are the stable dark matter candidates. Due to the mixture of the standard model Higgs doublet and the introduced quadruplet, dark matter could annihilate into the standard model particles through the Higgs portal and new scalar portal. We study the discovery significance of the vector dark matter at the Large Hadron Collider. The invol…
A light Higgs portal scalar could be abundantly produced in the earth's atmosphere and decay in large-volume neutrino detectors. We point out that the Hyper-Kamiokande detector bears a strong discovery potential of probing such particles in an uncharted parameter space that is actively explored by intensity frontier experiments including rare kaon decays. The signal we propose to look for is electron-positron pair creation that manifests as a double-ring appearing from the same vertex. Most of these pairs originate from zenith angles above the Hyper-K detector's horizon. This search can be gen…
We show that fermionic dark matter (DM) which communicates with the Standard Model (SM) via the Higgs portal is a viable scenario, even if a SM-like Higgs is found at around 125 GeV. Using effective field theory we show that for DM with a mass in the range from about 60 GeV to 2 TeV the Higgs portal needs to be parity violating in order to be in agreement with direct detection searches. For parity conserving interactions we identify two distinct options that remain viable: a resonant Higgs portal, and an indirect Higgs portal. We illustrate both possibilities using a simple renormalizable toy …
We consider the process in which a Higgs particle is produced in association with jets and show that monojet searches at the LHC already provide interesting constraints on the invisible decays of a 125 GeV Higgs boson. Using the existing monojet searches performed by CMS and ATLAS, we show the 95% confidence level limit on the invisible Higgs decay rate is of the order of the total Higgs production rate in the Standard Model. This limit could be significantly improved when more data at higher center of mass energies are collected, provided systematic errors on the Standard Model contribution t…
Interpretations of searches for the Higgs boson are governed by model-dependent combinations of Higgs production cross sections and Higgs branching ratios. Mixing of the Higgs doublet with a hidden sector captures modifications from the Standard Model Higgs phenomenology in the standard search channels in a representative way, in particular because invisible Higgs decay modes open up. As a consequence, LHC exclusion bounds, which disfavor a heavy Standard Model Higgs can be consistently understood in terms of a standard-hidden mixed Higgs system. Shedding light on the possible existence of suc…
We study for the first time the collider reach on the derivative Higgs portal, the leading effective interaction that couples a pseudo Nambu-Goldstone boson (pNGB) scalar Dark Matter to the Standard Model. We focus on Dark Matter pair production through an off-shell Higgs boson, which is analyzed in the vector boson fusion channel. A variety of future high-energy lepton colliders as well as hadron colliders are considered, including CLIC, a muon collider, the High-Luminosity and High-Energy versions of the LHC, and FCC-hh. Implications on the parameter space of pNGB Dark Matter are discussed. …
It is very easy to write down models in which long-lived particles decaying to standard model states are pair-produced via Higgs decays, resulting in the signature of approximately back-to-back pairs of displaced narrow hadronic jets and/or lepton jets at the LHC. The LHC collaborations have already searched for such signatures with no observed excess. This paper describes a Monte Carlo method to reinterpret the searches. The method relies on (ideally multidimensional) efficiency tables, thus we implore collaborations to include them in any future work. Exclusion regions in mixing-mass paramet…
We study the discovery prospects of a heavy neutral scalar arising from a $U(1)_{B-L}$ extension of the Standard Model (SM) during the Large Hadron Collider's high luminosity runs (HL-LHC). This heavy neutral scalar mixes with the SM Higgs boson through a Higgs portal and interacts with the SM particles with an interaction strength proportional to the sine of the mixing angle. The mixing between the two Higgs bosons is constrained by direct and indirect measurements. We choose an experimentally viable mixing angle and explore in detail the $ZZ$ and $WW$ decay modes of the heavy Higgs boson. Fo…
We investigate the prospects for producing new, light, hidden states at a future $e^+ e^-$ collider in a Higgsed dark $U(1)_D$ model, which we call the Double Dark Portal model. The simultaneous presence of both vector and scalar portal couplings immediately modifies the Standard Model Higgsstrahlung channel, $e^+ e^- \to Zh$, at leading order in each coupling. In addition, each portal leads to complementary signals which can be probed at direct and indirect detection dark matter experiments. After accounting for current constraints from LEP and LHC, we demonstrate that a future $e^+ e^-$ Higg…
High-energy $γγ$ colliders constitute a potential running mode of future $e^+ e^-$ colliders such as the ILC and CLIC. We study the sensitivity of a high-energy $γγ$ collider to the Higgs portal scenario to a hidden sector above the invisible Higgs decay threshold. We show that such $γγ$ collisions could allow to probe the existence of dark sectors through the Higgs portal comparatively more precisely than any other planned collider facility, from the unique combination of sizable cross-section with clean final state and collider environment. In addition, this search could cover the singlet Hi…
We investigate the prospects for detecting a hidden sector at an $e^+ e^-$ collider. The hidden sector is assumed to be composed of invisible particles that carry no charges under the Standard Model gauge interactions, and whose primary interactions with ordinary matter are through the Higgs portal. We consider both the cases when the decays of an on-shell Higgs into a pair of hidden sector particles are kinematically allowed, and the case when such decays are kinematically forbidden. We find that at collider energies below a TeV, the most sensitive channel involves production of an on-shell o…
The correlation between the invisible Higgs branching ratio ($B_h^{\rm inv} $) vs. dark matter (DM) direct detection ($σ_p^{\rm SI}$) in Higgs portal DM models is usually presented in the effective field theory (EFT) framework. This is fine for singlet scalar DM, but not in the singlet fermion DM (SFDM) or vector DM (VDM) models. In this paper, we derive the explicit expressions for this correlation within UV completions of SFDM and VDM models with Higgs portals, and discuss the limitation of the EFT approach. We show that there are at least two additional hidden parameter in $σ_p^{\rm SI}$ in…
LHC constraints on Higgs-portal WIMPs are studied. Scalar, vector and anti-symmetric tensor fields are considered. They are assumed to be heavier than a half of the Higgs boson mass. We investigate 8 TeV LHC results on signatures of the vector boson fusion, mono-jet and associated production of the $Z$ boson, which proceed via virtual exchange of the Higgs boson. We show that Higgs-portal interactions of the vector and tensor WIMPs are constrained to be less than 0.43 and 0.16, respectively, while those for the scalar are very weak. Prospects of the 14 TeV LHC are also discussed.
We study effects from new colored states and the Higgs portal on gluon fusion production. We isolate possible loop contributions from new colored scalars, fermions, and vectors, incorporating effects from Higgs portal-induced scalar mixing, leading to dramatic effects on gluon fusion and branching fractions. Higgs identification must generally allow for these effects, and using our results, possible tensions from fits to the Standard Model expectation can be relieved by inclusion of New Physics effects.
We study the discovery and discriminating prospects of the Higgs portal dark matter (DM) models for scalar, fermion and vector DM and their extensions in proton-proton ($pp$) collisions. The $t\bar{t}+$DM associated production in dileptonic final states is considered, in which the stransverse mass of two leptons is found to be effective in suppressing the Standard Model backgrounds along with the missing transverse energy and the angle between two leptons. The distributions of missing transverse energy and polar angle between two leptons are used for a discrimination of the spin nature of DM. …
We study an extension of the Inert Higgs Doublet Model (IHDM) by three copies of right handed neutrinos and heavy charged leptons such that both the inert Higgs doublet and the heavy fermions are odd under the $Z_2$ symmetry of the model. The neutrino masses are generated at one loop in the scotogenic fashion. Assuming the neutral scalar of the inert Higgs to be the dark matter candidate, we particularly look into the region of parameter space where dark matter relic abundance is primarily governed by the inert Higgs coupling with the leptons. This corresponds to tiny Higgs portal coupling of …
We perform a detailed study of scalar dark matter with triplet Higgs extensions of the Standard Model in order to explain the cosmic ray electron and positron excesses reported by AMS-02 and DAMPE. A detailed analysis of AMS-02 positron excess reveals that for different orderings (normal, inverted and quasi-degenerate) of neutrino mass, the hybrid triplet Higgs portal framework is more favored with respect to the single triplet Higgs portal for TeV scale dark matter. We also show that the resonant peak and continuous excess in DAMPE cosmic ray data can be well explained with the hybrid triplet…
We consider a simple extension of the standard model with a singlet fermionic dark matter. Its thermal relic density can be easily accommodated by a real singlet scalar messenger that mixes with the standard model Higgs boson. The model can change significantly the Higgs signals at the LHC via sizable invisible decays of two Higgs-like scalar bosons. After imposing the constraints from the electroweak precision tests, colliders and dark matter search experiments, one concludes that two or one or none of the two Higgs bosons, depending on the mass relations among two scalar bosons and the dark …
We constrain the Higgs-portal model employing the vector-boson fusion channel at the LHC. In particular, we include the phenomenologically interesting parameter region near the Higgs resonance, where the Higgs-boson mass is close to the threshold for dark-matter production and a running-width prescription has to be employed for the Higgs-boson propagator. Limits for the Higgs-portal coupling as a function of the dark-matter mass are derived from the CMS search for invisible Higgs-boson decays in vector-boson fusion at 13 TeV. Furthermore, we perform projections for the 14 TeV HL-LHC and the 27…
The U(1)_D gauge sector containing one dark Higgs boson h_D and one dark photon γ_D may be explored through the decays of the 126 GeV particle discovered at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), assumed here as the heavier mass eigenstate h_1 in the mixing of the standard model h with h_D. The various decays of h_1 to γ_D γ_D, h_2 h_2, h_2 γ_D γ_D and h_2 h_2 h_2 would yield multilepton final states through the mixing of γ_D with the photon and the decay h_2 \to γ_D γ_D, where h_2 is the lighter dark Higgs. Future searches for signals of multilepton jets at the LHC may reveal the existence of this …
We review predictions and constraints for nuclear recoil signals from Higgs portal dark matter under the assumption of standard thermal creation from freeze-out. Thermally created scalar and vector Higgs portal dark matter masses are constrained to be in the resonance region near half the Higgs mass or above several TeV. The resonance region for these models will be tested by XENONnT and LZ. The full mass range up to the unitarity limit can be tested by DarkSide-20k and DARWIN. Fermionic Higgs portal dark matter with a pure CP odd coupling is constrained by the Higgs decay width, but has stron…
We investigate the Higgs inflation and the Higgs portal dark matter with the right-handed neutrino. The dark matter and the right-handed neutrino in the Higgs inflation play important roles in explaining the recent experimental results of the Higgs and top masses, and the cosmic microwave background by BICEP2 at the same time. This inflation model predicts $805~{\rm GeV} \lesssim m_{\rm DM} \lesssim1220~{\rm GeV}$ for the DM mass, $1.05 \times10^{14}~{\rm GeV} \lesssim M_R \lesssim 2.04 \times10^{14}~{\rm GeV}$ for the right-handed neutrino mass, and $8.42 \lesssim ξ\lesssim 12.4$ for the non-…
The discovery of the Higgs boson opens the door to new physics interacting via the Higgs Portal, including motivated scenarios relating to baryogenesis, dark matter, and electroweak naturalness. We systematically explore the collider signatures of singlet scalars produced via the Higgs Portal at the 14 TeV LHC and a prospective 100 TeV hadron collider. We focus on the challenging regime where the scalars are too heavy to be produced in the decays of an on-shell Higgs boson, and instead are produced primarily via an off-shell Higgs. Assuming these scalars escape the detector, promising channels…
We consider a Dirac singlet fermion as thermal dark matter for explaining the X-ray line in the context of a supersymmetric Higgs-portal model or a generalized Dirac NMSSM. The Dirac singlet fermion gets a mass splitting due to their Yukawa couplings to two Higgs doublets and their superpartners, Higgsinos, after electroweak symmetry breaking. We show that a correct relic density can be obtained from thermal freeze-out, due to the co-annihilation with Higgsinos for the same Yukawa couplings. We discuss the phenomenology of the Higgsinos in this model such as displaced vertices at the LHC.
We review scenarios in which the particles that account for the Dark Matter (DM) in the Universe interact only through their couplings with the Higgs sector of the theory, the so-called Higgs-portal models. In a first step, we use a general and model-independent approach in which the DM particles are singlets with spin $0,\frac12$ or $1$, and assume a minimal Higgs sector with the presence of only the Standard Model (SM) Higgs particle observed at the LHC. In a second step, we discuss non-minimal scenarios in which the spin-$\frac12$ DM particle is accompanied by additional lepton partners and…
The Higgs portal to scalar Dark Matter is considered in the context of non-linearly realised electroweak symmetry breaking. We determine the interactions of gauge bosons and the physical Higgs particle $h$ to a scalar singlet Dark Matter candidate $S$ in an effective description. The main phenomenological differences with respect to the standard scenario can be seen in the Dark Matter relic abundance, in direct/indirect searches and in signals at colliders.
An extended Higgs sector may allow for new scalar particles well below the weak scale. In this work, we present a detailed study of a light scalar $S$ with enhanced coupling to leptons, which could be responsible for the existing discrepancy between experimental and theoretical determinations of the muon anomalous magnetic moment. We present an ultraviolet completion of this model in terms of the lepton-specific two-Higgs doublet model and an additional scalar singlet. We then analyze a plethora of experimental constraints on the universal low energy model, and this UV completion, along with t…
We perform frequentist and Bayesian statistical analyses of Higgs- and Z-portal models of dark matter particles with spin 0, 1/2 and 1. Our analyses incorporate data from direct detection and indirect detection experiments, as well as LHC searches for monojet and monophoton events, and we also analyze the potential impacts of future direct detection experiments. We find acceptable regions of the parameter spaces for Higgs-portal models with real scalar, neutral vector, Majorana or Dirac fermion dark matter particles, and Z-portal models with Majorana or Dirac fermion dark matter particles. In …
Though the 125-GeV scalar, as the Higgs boson of the standard model, is disfavoured as a dark matter portal by direct searches and the observations on relic density, a heavier scalar in an extended electroweak sector can fit into that role. We explore this possibility in the context of two Higgs doublet models (2HDM). Taking Type I and Type II 2HDM as illustration, and assuming a scalar gauge singlet dark matter particle, we show that the heavy neutral CP-even scalar ($H$) can (a) serve as dark matter portal consistently with all data, and (b) have a substantial invisible branching ratio, over…
The electroweak sector of the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM) - neutralinos, charginos and sleptons - remains relatively weakly constrained at the LHC due in part to the small production cross sections of these particles. In this paper, we study the prospects of searching for decays of heavy Higgs bosons into these superpartners at the high luminosity LHC. In addition to the kinematic handles offered by the presence of a resonant particle in the production chain, heavy Higgs decays can be the dominant production modes of these superpartners, making it possible to extend coverage t…
In the Higgs portal framework, the Higgs field generally mixes with the Standard Model singlet leading to the existence of two states, one of which is identified with the 125 GeV scalar observed at the LHC. In this work, we analyse direct and indirect constraints on the second mass eigenstate and the corresponding mixing angle. The existence of the additional scalar can be beneficial as it can stabilise the otherwise-metastable electroweak vacuum. We find parameter regions where all of the bounds, including the stability constraints, are satisfied. We also study prospects for observing the dec…
We explore an extension of the Standard Model by an additional U (1) gauge group and a complex scalar Higgs portal. As the scalar is charged under this gauge factor this simple model supplies a vector dark matter candidate satisfying the observed relic abundance and limits from direct dark matter searches. An additional Higgs-like state, that may be heavier or lighter than the observed Higgs, is present and satisfies LEP and LHC bounds whilst allowing for absolute stability of the electroweak vacuum in a range of parameter space.
We present Higgs-Portal dark matter (DM) models to explain the reported Galactic Center GeV gamma-ray excess. Naive effective theories are inconsistent with direct detection constraint for the relevant parameter range. Simple extended models with dark gauge symmetries can easily accommodate the gamma-ray excess through the Higgs-Portal coupling while satisfying various constraints.
We study a model of spin-1 dark matter which interacts with the Standard Model predominantly via exchange of Higgs bosons. We propose an alternative UV completion to the usual Vector Dark Matter Higgs Portal, in which vector-like fermions charged under SU(2)$_W \times$ U(1)$_Y$ and under the dark gauge group, U(1)$^\prime$, generate an effective interaction between the Higgs and the dark matter at one loop. We explore the resulting phenomenology and show that this dark matter candidate is a viable thermal relic and satisfies Higgs invisible width constraints as well as direct detection bounds.
The simplest Higgs-portal scalar dark matter model, in which a real scalar singlet is added to the standard model, has been revisited, by taking into account the constraints from perturbativity, electroweak vacuum stability in the early Universe, dark matter direct detection, and Higgs invisible decay at the LHC. We show that the {\it resonant mass region} is totally excluded and the {\it high mass region} is reduced to a narrow window $1.1$ ~TeV $\leq m_{s} \leq$ $ 2.55$~ TeV, which is slightly reduced to $1.1$~TeV $\leq m_{s} \leq$ $ 2.0$~ TeV if the perturbativity is further imposed. This {…
We study the sensitivity of future electron-positron colliders to UV completions of the fermionic Higgs portal operator $H^\dagger H \bar χχ$. Measurements of precision electroweak $S$ and $T$ parameters and the $e^+e^- \to Zh$ cross section at the CEPC, FCC-ee, and ILC are considered. The scalar completion of the fermionic Higgs portal is closely related to the scalar Higgs portal, and we summarize existing results. We devote the bulk of our analysis to a singlet-doublet fermion completion. Assuming the doublet is sufficiently heavy, we construct the effective field theory (EFT) at dimension-…
The Higgs portal to scalar Dark Matter is considered in the context of non-linearly realised electroweak symmetry breaking. We determine the dominant interactions of gauge bosons and the physical Higgs particle $h$ to a scalar singlet dark matter candidate. Phenomenological consequences are also studied in detail, including the possibility of distinguishing this scenario from the standard Higgs portal in which the electroweak symmetry breaking is linearly realised. Two features of significant impact are: i) the connection between the electroweak scale $v$ and the Higgs particle departs from th…
Higgs portal interactions provide a simple mechanism for addressing two open problems in cosmology: dark matter and the baryon asymmetry. In the latter instance, Higgs portal interactions may contain the ingredients for a strong first order electroweak phase transition as well as new CP-violating interactions as needed for electroweak baryogenesis. These interactions may also allow for a viable dark matter candidate. We survey the opportunities for probing the Higgs portal as it relates to these questions in cosmology at the LHC and possible future colliders.
We revisit the Higgs portal vector dark matter model including a hidden sector Higgs field that generates the mass of the vector dark matter. The model becomes renormalizable and has two scalar bosons, the mixtures of the standard model (SM) Higgs and the hidden sector Higgs bosons. The strong bound from direct detection such as XENON100 is evaded due to the cancellation mechanism between the contributions from two scalar bosons. As a result, the model becomes still viable in large range of dark matter mass, contrary to some claims in the literature. The Higgs properties are also affected, the…
In a scenario of Higgs portal dark matter, Higgs exchange processes are essential for both dark matter annihilation in the early Universe and direct search experiments. The CDMS II collaboration has recently released their final results on direct dark matter searches. We study a scalar dark matter model with multi-Higgs doublets under the constraint from the CDMS II results and also from the WMAP data. We find that the possible maximal value for the branching ratio of the invisible decay of the Higgs boson can be significantly greater than that in the Higgs portal model with one Higgs doublet,…
In the Standard Model (SM), the Higgs mass around 125 GeV implies that the electroweak vacuum is metastable since the quartic Higgs coupling turns negative at high energies. I point out that a tiny mixing of the Higgs with a heavy singlet can make the electroweak vacuum completely stable. This is due to a tree level correction to the Higgs mass-coupling relation, which survives in the zero-mixing/heavy-singlet limit. Such a situation is experimentally indistinguishable from the SM, unless the Higgs self-coupling can be measured. As a result, Higgs inflation and its variants can still be viable…
