In the last years it became possible to measure in HADES the dilepton decays of several baryons. The baryon dilepton decays provide information about the electromagnetic structure of the baryons in the timelike region. In the present work, we study the $B^\prime \to e^+ e^- B$ decays, where $B^\prime$ is a baryon decuplet member and $B$ is a baryon octet member. Our calculations are based on the covariant spectator quark model, where the contribution of the quark core is complemented with an $SU(3)$ contribution from the pion cloud. The pion cloud contribution prove to be relevant in the range of study. We present predictions for the $Σ^0 (1385) \to e^+ e^- Λ(1116)$ and $Σ^{+}(1385) \to e^+ e^- Σ^+(1193)$ decays, which may be tested at HADES in a near future. Predictions for the remaining decuplet baryon Dalitz decays are also presented. We conclude that different orders of magnitudes are expected for the baryon decuplet Dalitz decay widths, according to the quark content of the baryons. We also conclude that the dependence of the transition form factors on the square momentum transfer ($q^2$) is important for some transitions.
We have systematically investigated the decuplet (T) to octet (B) baryon ($T\rightarrow Bγ$) transition magnetic moments to the next-to-next-to-leading order and electric quadruple moments to the next-to-leading order in the framework of the heavy baryon chiral perturbation theory. Our calculation includes the contributions from both the intermediate decuplet and octet baryon states in the loops. Our results show reasonably good convergence of the chiral expansion and agreement with the experimental data. The analytical expressions may be useful to the chiral extrapolation of the lattice simul…
A complete and minimal relativistic Lagrangian is constructed at next-to-leading order for SU(3) chiral perturbation theory in the presence of baryon octet and baryon decuplet states. The Lagrangian has 13 terms for the pure decuplet sector, 6 terms for the transition sector from baryon octet to decuplet and (as already known from the literature) 16 terms for the pure octet sector. The minimal field content of 25 of these terms is meson-baryon four-point interactions. 3 terms give rise to the mass splitting for baryon octet and decuplet states, respectively. 2 terms give rise to overall mass s…
We compute the octet baryon charge radii to O(1/Heavy^3) in heavy baryon chiral perturbation theory. We examine the effect of including the decuplet of spin-3/2 baryons explicitly. We find that it does no t improve the level of agreement between the HBchiPT and experimental values for the Sigma^- charge radius.
We study the group structure of baryon anti-decuplet containing the $Θ^+$. We derive the SU(3) mass relations among the pentaquark baryons in the anti-decuplet, when there is either no mixing or ideal mixing with the pentaquark octet, as advocated by Jaffe and Wilczek. This constitutes the Gell-Mann--Okubo mass formula for the pentaquark baryons. We also derive SU(3) symmetric Lagrangian for the interactions of the baryons in the anti-decuplet with the meson octet and the baryon octet. Our analysis for the decay widths of the anti-decuplet states suggests that the N(1710) is ruled out as a pur…
The octet, decuplet and antidecuplet baryon mass spectrum as a function of the Skyrme charge e and the SU(3)_f symmetry breaking parameters is given in tabular form. We also estimate the decuplet-octet and the antidecuplet-octet mass difference. Comparison with existing literature is given.
We study the octet to decuplet baryon electromagnetic transitions using the covariant spectator quark model, and predict the transition magnetic dipole form factors for those involving the strange baryons. Utilizing SU(3) symmetry, the valence quark contributions are supplemented by the pion cloud dressing based on the one estimated in the $γ^\ast N \to Δ$ reaction. Although the valence quark contributions are dominant in general, the pion cloud effects turn out to be very important to describe the experimental data. We also show that, other mesons besides the pion in particular the kaon, may …
We present a study of axial charges of baryon ground and resonant states with relativistic constituent quark models. In particular, the axial charges of octet and decuplet $N$, $Σ$, $Ξ$, $Δ$, $Σ^*$, and $Ξ^*$ baryons are considered. The theoretical predictions are compared to existing experimental data and results from other approaches, notably from lattice quantum chromodynamics and chiral perturbation theory. The relevance of axial charges with regard to $π$-dressing and spontaneous chiral-symmetry breaking is discussed.
The self-energies of the full set of flavor SU(3) octet and decuplet baryons are computed within a relativistic chiral effective theory framework. The leading nonanalytic chiral behavior is derived for the octet and decuplet masses, and a finite-range regularization consistent with Lorentz and gauge invariance is applied to account for the finite size of the baryons. Using a four-dimensional dipole form factor, the relative importance of various meson-baryon loop contributions to the self-energies is studied numerically as a function of the dipole range parameter and meson mass, and comparison…
We investigate the strong coupling constants for the baryon octet-octet, decuplet-octet, and decuplet-decuplet vertices with pseudoscalar mesons within a general framework of the chiral quark-soliton model, taking into account the effects of flavor SU(3) symmetry breaking to linear order in the expansion of the strange current quark mass. All relevant dynamical parameters are fixed by using the experimental data on hyperon semileptonic decays and the singlet axial-vector constant of the nucleon. The results of the strong coupling constants for the baryon octet and the pseudoscalar meson octet …
A continuum approach to the three valence-quark bound-state problem in quantum field theory, employing parametrisations of the necessary kernel elements, is used to compute the spectrum and Poincaré-covariant wave functions for all flavour-$SU(3)$ octet and decuplet baryons and their first positive-parity excitations. Such analyses predict the existence of nonpointlike, dynamical quark-quark (diquark) correlations within all baryons; and a uniformly sound description of the systems studied is obtained by retaining flavour-antitriplet--scalar and flavour-sextet--pseudovector diquarks. Thus cons…
Empirical mass formulae for the baryon octet and decuplet are presented. These formulae are functions of one integer variable and charge state of the baryons. With an exception of Lambda(1116), the formulae generate masses within 0.1% of the observed masses. The formulae also generate the same electromagnetic mass splittings predicted by SU(6)model. Spin 1/2 octet resonances and its relation to the octet mass formula is described.
In the last years, the need of the colour octet state in inclusive P-wave charmonium decay has been firmly established. However, the implications of this in the corresponding exclusive reactions have not been fully recognized. We argue for the necessity of the colour octet in P- and higher-wave quarkonium decay. Using a set of phenomenologically constructed baryon wavefunctions, we consider the Chi_J decay into octet and decuplet baryon-antibaryon pair. By doing so, we subject the wavefunctions to a test of applicability. We show that the colour singlet component alone is insufficient to accou…
We calculate baryon decuplet to octet electromagnetic transition form factors in quenched and partially quenched chiral perturbation theory. We work in the isospin limit of SU(3) flavor, up to next-to-leading order in the chiral expansion, and to leading order in the heavy baryon expansion. Our results are necessary for proper extrapolation of lattice calculations of these transitions. We also derive expressions for the case of SU(2) flavor away from the isospin limit.
Octet and Decuplet baryons are described within the hadronized NJL model as diquark--quark states, which are bound by quark exchange. Including scalar and axial--vector diquark correlations, we project the previously obtained relativistic Faddeev equation in a Poincaré invariant fashion onto good spin, using a static approximation to the exchanged quark. The resulting equations for the spin 1/2 octet and the spin 3/2 decuplet are solved numerically.
We address the impact of treating the decuplet of spin-3/2 baryons as an explicit degree of freedom in the chiral expansion of the magnetic moments of the octet of spin-1/2 baryons. We carry out a complete calculation of the octet moments to O(1/\lamchic), including decuplet contributions to the chiral loops. In contrast to results of previous analyses, we find that inclusion of the decuplet preserves the convergence behavior of the chiral expansion implied by power counting arguments.
The baryon octet and decuplet masses and Bethe-Salpeter vertex and wave functions are calculated in the ladder approximation to the quark exchange between a scalar or axialvector diquark and a constituent quark. These functions reflecting full Lorentz covariance are given in terms of an expansion in Gegenbauer polynomials. In the rest frame of the baryon, a complete partial wave decomposition of the Bethe-Salpeter wave function is performed. The confinement of quarks and diquarks is implemented via a parametrisation of the corresponding propagators. We also discuss some aspects of the momentum…
The strong coupling constants between light vector mesons and octet-decuplet baryons are calculated in framework of the light cone QCD sum rules, taking into account SU(3) flavor symmetry breaking effects. It is shown that all strong coupling constants can be represented in terms of a single universal function. Size of the SU(3) symmetry breaking effects are estimated.
We calculate the isovector axial vector form factors of the octet-decuplet hyperon transitions within the framework of the light-cone QCD sum rules (LCSR) to leading in QCD and including higher-twist corrections. In particular, we motivate the most recent version of the $Σ$ baryon distribution amplitudes which are examined up to twist-6 based on conformal symmetry of the massless QCD Lagrangian.
The strong coupling constants of light pseudoscalar $π$, $K$ and $η$ mesons with decuplet--octet baryons are studied within light cone QCD sum rules, where $SU(3)_f$ symmetry breaking effects are taken into account. It is obtained that all coupling constants under the consideration are described by only one universal function even if $SU(3)_f$ symmetry breaking effects are switched into the game.
We treat baryons as bound states of scalar or axialvector diquarks and a constituent quark which interact through quark exchange. We obtain fully four-dimensional wave functions for both octet and decuplet baryons as solutions of the corresponding Bethe-Salpeter equation. Applications currently under investigation are: electromagnetic and strong form factors and strangeness production processes.
We study the interaction of the octet of vector mesons with the decuplet of baryons using Lagrangians of the hidden gauge theory for vector interactions. The unitary amplitudes in coupled channels develop poles that can be associated with some known baryonic resonances, while there are predictions for new ones at the energy frontier of the experimental research. The work offers guidelines on how to search for these resonances.
In chiral models with SU(3) group structure, baryon decuplet and octet magnetic moments are evaluated by constructing their sum rules to yield theoretical predictions. In these sum rules we exploit six experimentally known baryon magnetic moments. Sum rules for flavor components and strange form factors of the octet and decuplet magnetic moments and decuplet-to-octet transition magnetic moments are also investigated.
We study the isospin symmetry breaking and mass splittings of the eight lowest-lying baryons. We consider three kinds of baryon mass terms, including the bare mass term, the electromagnetic terms and the spontaneous chiral symmetry breaking terms. We include the mixing term between flavor-octet and flavor-decuplet baryons. This assumes that the lowest-lying Sigma and Xi baryons contain a few decuplet components and so are not purely flavor-octet. We achieve a good fitting that the difference between every fitted mass and its experimental value is less than 0.2 MeV.
The radiative decays of decuplet to octet baryons are analyzed within the light cone QCD sum rules framework. The electromagnetic transition form factors for these decays are calculated up to twist four accuracy for photon wave functions as well as including first order strange quark mass corrections. A comparison of our results with predictions of lattice theory and existing experimental data is presented.
The strange form factors of baryon octet are evaluated, in the chiral models with the general chiral SU(3) group structure, to yield the theoretical predictions comparable to the recent experimental data of SAMPLE Collaboration and to study the spin symmetries. Other model predictions are also briefly reviewed to compare with our results and then the strange form factors of baryon octet and decuplet are predicted.
Axial-vector transitions of decuplet to octet baryons are parametrized at low energies guided by a complete and minimal chiral Lagrangian up to next-to-leading order. It is pointed out that beyond the well-known leading-order term, there is only one contribution at next-to-leading order. This contribution is flavor symmetric. Therefore the corresponding low-energy constant can be determined in any strangeness sector. As functions of this low-energy constant, we calculate the decay widths and Dalitz distributions for the decays of decuplet baryons to octet baryons, pions, and photons and for th…
The q-deformed Clebsch-Gordan coefficients corresponding to the $\lrpy{3}\times\lrpy{21}$ reduction of the $SU_q(3)$ quantum algebra are computed. From these results and using the quantum Clebsch-Gordan coefficients for the $\lrpy{21}\times\lrpy{21}$ reduction found by Zhong Qi Ma, the q-deformed Gell-Mann-Okubo mass relations for octet and decuplet baryons are determined by generalizing the procedure used for the SU(3) algebra. We also determine the Coleman-Glashow relations for octet and decuplet baryons in the $SU_q(3)$ algebra. Finally, by using the experimental particle masses of the octe…
The charge radii of the octet and decuplet baryons have been calculated in the framework of chiral constituent quark model ($χ$CQM) using a general parameterization (GP) method. Our results are comparable with the latest experimental studies as well as with other phenomenological models. The effects of SU(3) symmetry breaking and GP parameters pertaining to the one-, two- and three-quark contributions have also been investigated in detail.
We extend a previous analysis of the lowest-lying octet baryon masses in covariant baryon chiral perturbation theory (ChPT) by explicitly taking into account the contribution of the virtual decuplet baryons. Up to next-to-next-to-next-to-leading order (N$^3$LO), the effects of these heavier degrees of freedom are systematically studied. Their effects on the light-quark mass dependence of the octet baryon masses are shown to be relatively small and can be absorbed by the available low-energy constants up to N$^3$LO. Nevertheless, a better description of the finite-volume corrections of the latt…
We calculate the parton distributions for both polarized and unpolarized octet and decuplet baryons, using the MIT bag, dressed by mesons. We show that the hyperfine interaction responsible for the $Δ- N$ and $Σ^0 - Λ$ splittings leads to large deviations from SU(3) and SU(6) predictions. For the $Λ$ we find significant polarized, non-strange parton distributions which lead to a sizable $Λ$ polarization in polarized, semi-inclusive $ep$ scattering. We also discuss the flavour symmetry violation arising from the meson-cloud associated with the chiral structure of baryons.
In light of the developments of the chiral constituent quark model ($χ$CQM) in studying low energy hadronic matrix elements of the ground-state baryons, we have extended this model to investigate their transition properties. The magnetic moments of transitions from the $J^P=\frac{3}{2}^+$ decuplet to $J^P=\frac{1}{2}^+$ octet baryons have been calculated with explicit valence quark spin, sea quark spin and sea quark orbital angular momentum contributions. Since the experimental data is available for only a few transitions, we have compared our results with the results of other available models…
We present an effective model, which is an extension of the usual linear sigma model, that contains a low energy multiplet for every hadronic particle type. These multiplets are a scalar nonet, a pseudoscalar nonet, a vector nonet, an axialvector nonet, a baryon octet and a baryon decuplet. Tree level baryon masses and possible two body decuplet decays are calculated. The baryon masses are generated through spontaneous symmetry breaking. The calculated quantities are used to determine the model parameters through a multiparametric minimalization process, which compares the calculated physical …
We investigate the axial-vector transition form factors of the baryon octet to the baryon decuplet within the framework of the chiral quark-soliton model, with the effects of flavor SU(3) symmetry breaking included. We consider the rotational $1/N_c$ corrections and regard the strange current quark mass as a perturbation. We compare the present results for the $Δ\to N$ axial-vector transition with those from other models and lattice QCD. We also compute all possible axial-vector transitions from the baryon decuplet to the octet with the strangeness changed, i.e., $|ΔS|=1$. We obtain the value …
Baryon mass splittings are analyzed in terms of a simple model with general pairwise interactions. At present, the $Δ$ masses are poorly known from experiments. Improvement of these data would provide an opportunity to make a significant test of our understanding of electromagnetic and quark-mass contributions to hadronic masses. The problem of determining resonance masses from scattering and production data is discussed.
Systematic treatment of the collective rotation of the nonrigid chiral soliton is developed in the SU(3) chiral quark soliton model and applied to the octet and decuplet baryons. The strangeness degrees of freedom are treated by a simplified bound-state approach which omits the locality of the kaon wave function. Then, the flavor rotation is divided into the isospin rotation and the emission and absorption of the kaon. The kaon Hamiltonian is diagonalized by the Hartree approximation. The soliton changes the shape according to the strangeness. The baryons appear as the rotational bands of the …
We determine the baryon octet and decuplet masses as well as their wave functions in a covariant three-body Faddeev approach. We work in an approximation where irreducible three-body forces are neglected. In the two-body interactions we take into account a well explored rainbow-ladder kernel as well as flavor dependent meson-exchange terms motivated from the underlying quark-gluon interaction. Without flavor dependent forces we find agreement with the experimental spectrum on the 5-10 percent level. Including the flavor dependent terms on an exploratory level delivers a Sigma/Lambda splitting …
Mesonic fluctuations around the chiral solitons are investigated in the SU(3) chiral quark soliton model. Since the soliton takes the non-hedgehog shape for the hyperons and the hedgehog one for the non-hedgehog baryons in our approach, the fluctuations also change according to the baryonic state. The quantum corrections to the masses (the Casimir energies) are estimated for the octet and decuplet baryons. The lack of the confinement in this model demands the cutoff on the energy of the fluctuations. Under the assumption that the value of the cutoff energy is $2\times$(the lightest constituent…
We reanalyse the magnetic moments of the baryon octet, decuplet, and antidecuplet within the framework of the chiral quark-soliton model, with SU(3) symmetry breaking taken into account. We consider the contributions of the mixing of higher representations to the magnetic moment operator arising from the SU(3) symmetry breaking. Dynamical parameters of the model are fixed by experimental data for the magnetic moments of the baryon octet and from the masses of the octet, decuplet and of $Θ^{+}$. The magnetic moment of $Θ^{+}$ depends rather strongly on the pion-nucleon sigma term and reads $-1.…
The baryon axial vector current is computed at one-loop order in large-N_c baryon chiral perturbation theory, where N_c is the number of colors. Loop graphs with octet and decuplet intermediate states are systematically incorporated into the analysis and the effects of the decuplet-octet mass difference and SU(3) flavor symmetry breaking are accounted for. As expected, large-N_c cancellations between different one-loop graphs are observed as a consequence of the large-N_c spin-flavor symmetry of QCD baryons. Fitting our analytical formulas against experimental data on baryon semileptonic decay…
Magnetic dipole moment form factor, $G_M^{(2)}(Q^2)$, describing the radial excitation of decuplet baryons to octet baryons electromagnetic transitions as well as the ratios, $R_{SM} = -\frac{1}{4 m_2^2} \sqrt{4 m_2^2 Q^2 + (m_2^2 - Q^2 -m_1^2)^2} \frac{G_C^{(2)}(Q^2)}{G_M^{(2)}(Q^2)}$ and $R_{EM} = -\frac{G_E^{(2)}(Q^2)}{G_M^{(2)}(Q^2)}$ are calculated in the framework of light-cone sum rules. We also estimate the degree of the violation of U-spin symmetry. The obtained results for the multipole form factors can be useful in searching the properties of radially excited baryon states.
Quadrupole moments of decuplet baryons and the octet-decuplet transition quadrupole moments are calculated using Morpurgo's general QCD parameterization method. Certain relations among the decuplet and the octet to decuplet transition quadrupole moments are derived. These can be used to predict the $Δ$ quadrupole moments which are difficult to measure.
We suggest an effective quark model for low-lying baryon octet and decuplet motivated by QCD with a linearly rising confinement potential incorporating the extended Nambu-Jona-Lasinio (ENJL) model with linear realization of chiral U(3)XU(3) symmetry. Baryons are considered as external heavy states coupled to local three-quark currents with fixed spinorial structure and to low-lying mesons through quark-meson interactions defined in the ENJL--model. In the constituent quark loop representation we have calculated the coupling constants of the (pi NN), (pi N Delta) and (gamma N Delta) interaction…
The magnetic dipole G_M(Q^2), electric quadrupole G_E(Q^2), and Coulomb quadrupole G_C(Q^2) form factors, describing the spin-3/2 to spin-1/2 electromagnetic transitions, are investigated within the light cone QCD sum rules. The Q^2 dependence of these form factors, as well as ratios of electric quadrupole and Coulomb quadrupole form factors to the magnetic dipole form factors are studied. We also compare our results on the magnetic dipole form factor with the prediction of the covariant spectator quark model.
Within the hadronic language of Chiral Perturbation Theory we present the full leading-order octet-baryon$-$meson and decuplet-baryon$-$meson contribution to the proton self energy and thus to its wave function renormalization factor $Z$. By Fock-expanding the physical proton state into its bare and hadron-cloud part, we show how each individual baryon-meson probability depend on the average momenta of the particles in the fluctuation. We present how the results depend on the choice of the form factor involved in the regularization (Gaussian or Besselian) and how they depend on the cut-off par…
We construct a general parametrization of the baryon octet and decuplet mass operators including the three-body terms using the unit operator and the symmetry-breaking factors $M^d=\textrm{diag} (0,1,0)$ and $M^s=\textrm{diag} (0,0,1)$ in conjunction with the spin operators. Our parametrization has the minimal number of operators needed to describe all the octet and decuplet masses. Investigating the likely size of the three-body terms, we find that contributions of the three-body hypercharge splittings are comparable to those from the one- and two-body isospin splittings and that contribution…
We study the magnetic moments of the octet, decuplet, low-lying charm, and low-lying bottom baryons with nonzero light quarks in symmetric nuclear matter using the quark-meson coupling (QMC) model, which satisfies the constraint for the allowed maximum change (swelling) of the in-medium nucleon size derived from the $y$-scaling data for $^3$He$(e,e')$ and $^{56}$Fe$(e,e')$. The present QMC model also satisfies the expected allowed maximum enhancement of the nucleon magnetic moments in nuclear matter. Moreover, it has been proven that the calculated in-medium to free proton electromagnetic form…
Evidence for the existence of exotic, pentaquark baryons was first found in the invariant mass spectrum of a baryon-meson pair, with the baryon in the octet of flavor SU(3). Exotic pentaquarks may also decay into members of the spin-3/2 baryon decuplet. We calculate relations between decay rates of the exotic pentaquark into a baryon decuplet and an octet of pseudoscalar mesons based on SU(3) flavor symmetry, including the leading flavor symmetry breaking term. We consider all possible representations for an exotic pentaquark, namely, that it belongs to either a \bar{10}, 27, or 35 representat…
We calculate decuplet contributions to the s-wave pseudoscalar meson octet-baryon scattering lengths to the third order in heavy baryon chiral perturbation theory (HB$χ$PT). Using experimental pion-nucleon and kaon-nucleon scattering lengths as inputs, we determine low-energy constants and predict other meson-baryon scattering lengths. Numerically we consider three cases: (1) the case with only baryon octet contributions; (2) with decuplet contributions and (3) in the large N_c limit. Hopefully, the analytical expressions and the predictions are helpful to future investigations of the meson-ba…
We have systematically investigated the magnetic moments and magnetic form factors of the decuplet baryons to the next-to-next-leading order in the framework of the heavy baryon chiral perturbation theory. Our calculation includes the contributions from both the intermediate decuplet and octet baryon states in the loops. We also calculate the charge and magnetic dipole form factors of the decuplet baryons. Our results may be useful to the chiral extrapolation of the lattice simulations of the decuplet electromagnetic properties.
Recently the μ_{Δ^{++}} was found from a fit to (π^+)p scattering. This enable us to pinpoint condensate parameters more precisely in the context of QCD sum rules (QCDSR). In the octet sector, the Coleman-Glashow sum rule (CGSR) is violated by the experimental μ-s. QCDSR allows us to write down two sum rules similar to the CGSR, which are obeyed by the experimental magnetic moments, whereas they rule out a specific model using the Wilson loop approach and a particular chiral quark model. It is amusing to note that the QCDSR allows us to write down the quark and gluon condensates in terms of me…
We investigate the electromagnetic transition form factors of the baryon decuplet to the baryon octet, based on the self-consistent SU(3) chiral quark-soliton model, taking into account the effects of explicit breaking of flavor SU(3) symmetry. We emphasize the $Q^2$ dependence of the electromagnetic $N\to Δ$ transition form factors and the ratios of $E2/M1$ and $C2/M1$ in comparison with the experimental and empirical data. In order to compare the present results of the electromagnetic transition form factors of the $N\to Δ$ with those from lattice QCD, we evaluate the form factors with the p…
Working within the non relativistic quark model a two parameter fit to the magnetic moments of baryons is presented. The fit has an excellent $χ^2$. The model is based on taking different flavor groups to describe the different magnetic moments. The selection of which group to assign to each baryon is guided by the structure of its wavefunction. The model corresponds to assigning different effective masses to a quark depending on which baryon is being considered. Using the values extracted from the fit, the magnetic moments of the $Ω^-$ and the $Δ^{++}$ have been predicted and the comparison t…
We investigate the hyperon semileptonic decay constants, $f_2/f_1$, and $g_1/f_1$, within a general framework of a chiral soliton model. All relevant parameters for the SU(3) baryon wave functions were unambiguously determined by using the experimental data for the masses of the baryon octet and the decuplet. Using then the existing experimental data for the magnetic moments of the baryon octet and the decay constants of hyperon semileptonic decays, we are able to determine all the hyperon semileptonic decay constants $f_2/f_1$ and $g_1/f_1$ of the baryon octet unequivocally. In addition, we a…
We have extended and applied a general QCD parameterization method to the emission of pions from baryons. We use it to calculate the strength and sign of the coupling of pions to the octet and decuplet of baryons. Certain relations between octet and decuplet couplings are pointed out.
The magnetic and transition magnetic moments of the ground-state baryons are computed in heavy baryon chiral perturbation theory in the large-$N_c$ limit, where N_c is the number of colors. SU(3) symmetry breaking is systematically studied twofold: On the one hand, one-loop nonanalytic corrections of orders m_q^{1/2} and m_q ln m_q are included, with contributions of baryon intermediate states from both flavor octet and flavor decuplet multiplets, assuming degeneracy between baryon states within a given flavor multiplet but nondegeneracy between baryons of different multiplets. On the other ha…
Octet and decuplet baryon magnetic moments have been formulated within the \chiQM with configuration mixing incorporating the sea quark polarizations and their orbital angular momentum through the generalization of the Cheng-Li mechanism. When the parameters of \chiQM without configuration mixing are fixed by incorporating the latest data pertaining to $\bar u-\bar d$ asymmetry (E866) and the spin polarization functions, in the case of octet magnetic moments the results not only show improvement over the nonrelativistic quark model results but also give a non zero value for the right hand side…
