The production of axionlike particles (ALP) in ultraperipheral $PbPb$ collisions (UPHIC) is investigated considering the energies of the next run of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) and of the future High Energy -- LHC (HE -- LHC) and Future Circular Collider (FCC). Assuming four different combinations for the ALP mass and coupling and the typical exclusivity cuts for central and forward detectors, we estimate the cross section and invariant mass, rapidity, transverse momentum and {acoplanarity} distributions associated to the diphoton final state produced in the $γγ\rightarrow a \rightarrow γγ$ subprocesses. A detailed analysis of the backgrounds is performed. We demonstrate that the backgrounds can be strongly reduced by the exclusivity cuts and that a forward detector, as the LHCb, is ideal to probe an ALP with small mass. Finally, our results indicate that a future experimental analysis of the diphoton final state in UPHIC can probe the existence and properties of axionlike particles.
The production of axionlike particles (ALPs) with small masses in ultraperipheral $Pb - p$ and $Pb - Pb$ collisions at the LHC is investigated. The cross section and kinematical distributions associated to the diphoton final state produced in the $γγ\rightarrow a \rightarrow γγ$ subprocesses are estimated considering a realistic set of kinematical cuts. A detailed analysis of the backgrounds is performed and the expected sensitivity to the ALP production is derived. Our results demonstrate that a future experimental analysis of the exclusive diphoton production for the forward rapidities probe…
In this paper we present a detailed analysis of the contribution of the Light -- by -- Light (LbL), Durham and double diffractive processes for the diphoton production in ultraperipheral $PbPb$ collisions at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), High -- Energy LHC (HE -- LHC) and Future Circular Collider (FCC). The acceptance of the central and forward LHC detectors is taken into account and predictions for the invariant mass, rapidity, transverse momentum and acoplanarity distributions are presented. Our results indicate that the contribution of the Durham and double diffractive processes can be s…
The exclusive production of axionlike particles (ALPs) by gluon -- induced interactions is investigated in this exploratory study considering $pp$ and $PbPb$ collisions for the energies of the next run of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). Assuming the Duhram model, we estimate the associated cross sections for the rapidity ranges probed by central and forward detectors. A comparison with the predictions for the exclusive ALP production by photon -- induced interactions is presented. Our results indicate that the contribution of gluon -- induced interactions is nonnegligible and can become domin…
In this paper we present a comprehensive analysis of the exclusive heavy quark photoproduction in $pp$, $pPb$ and $PbPb$ collisions at LHC and FCC energies using the color dipole formalism and taking into account of nonlinear corrections to the QCD dynamics. We estimate the rapidity distributions and cross sections for the charm and bottom production considering three phenomenological models for the dipole-proton scattering amplitude that are able to describe the $ep$ HERA data. Our results indicate that a future experimental analysis of this process is feasible, which will allow us to improve…
The coherent and incoherent $J/Ψ$ photoproduction in $PbPb$ collisions are investigated considering the possible states of nucleon configurations in the nuclear wave function and taking into account of the non - linear corrections to the QCD dynamics. The cross sections and the rapidity and transverse momentum distributions are estimated for the energies of the next run of the LHC, High -- Energy LHC and Future Circular Collider. Our results indicate that a future experimental analysis of these processes will be useful to discriminate between different approaches for the QCD dynamics as well t…
Axionlike particles (ALPs) emerge from spontaneously broken global symmetries in high energy extensions of the Standard Model (SM). This causes ALPs to be among the objectives of future experiments which intend to search for new physics beyond the SM. We discuss the reach of future pp collider FCC-hh in probing the ALP model parameters through top quark pair production associated with ALP ($t\bar{t}+\text{ALP}$) in a model-independent approach. The search is performed in the semileptonic decay mode of $t\bar{t}$ and the analysis is performed using a parametric simulation of the detector respon…
We explore the possibility of searching for axionlike particle (ALP) by $ep$ collisions via the subprocess $e^{-}γ\rightarrow e^{-}a \rightarrow e^{-}γγ$. Sensitivities to the effective ALP-photon coupling $g_{aγγ}$ for its mass in the range of 10 GeV $< M_{a}< 3$ TeV are obtained for the LHeC and its high-energy upgrade, FCC-eh. Comparing to existing bounds on the ALP free parameters, we find that the bounds given by $ep$ colliders are competitive and complementary to other colliders.
In this letter we present, for the first time, the results for the photoproduction of massive gauge bosons in proton -- proton, proton -- Lead and Lead -- Lead collisions at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), High -- Energy LHC (HE -- LHC) and Future Circular Collider (FCC). Predictions for the rapidity distributions and total cross sections are presented. We predict a large number of events in the rapidity range probed by the LHC detectors, which implies that this process can be used to probe the photoproduction of massive gauge bosons as well to perform the search of Beyond Standard Model phys…
Elastic light-by-light scattering, $γγ\toγγ$, can be measured in electromagnetic interactions of lead (Pb) ions at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) and Future Circular Collider (FCC), using the large (quasi)real photon fluxes available in ultraperipheral collisions. The $γγ\toγγ$ cross sections for diphoton masses m$_{γγ}>$ 5 GeV in pp, pPb, and PbPb collisions at LHC ($\sqrt{\rm s_{_{NN}}}$ = 5.5, 8.8, 14 TeV) and FCC ($\sqrt{\rm s_{_{NN}}}$ = 39, 63, 100 TeV) center-of-mass energies are presented. The measurement has controllable backgrounds in PbPb collisions, and one expects about 70 and 25…
In this paper we analyze the associated $ϕ$ and $J/Ψ$ photoproduction in ultraperipheral $PbPb$ collisions through the double scattering mechanism for the energies of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) and Future Circular Collider (FCC). Our results complement a previous analysis for the $ρρ$, $J/ΨJ/Ψ$ and $ρJ/Ψ$ production. We present our predictions for the total cross sections and rapidity distributions considering the rapidity ranges covered by the ALICE and LHCb detectors, which indicate that a future experimental analysis of $ϕJ/Ψ$ final state is feasible. These results point out that the s…
In this paper we investigate the production of a true muonium state, which is an atom consisting of a $μ^+ μ^-$ bound state, by $γγ$ interactions in ultraperipheral $PbPb$ collisions considering an accurate treatment of the absorptive corrections and for the nuclear form factor. The rapidity distributions and cross sections are estimated considering the RHIC, LHC and FCC energies. Our results indicate that the experimental analysis can be useful to observe, for the first time, the true muonium state.
In this work, we discuss the production of a tensor glueball in the proton-proton and nuclei-nuclei ultraperipheral collisions (UPCs). The cross section is calculated in the equivalent photon approximation (EPA). The total UPCs cross section is related to the matrix elements of $γγ\to π^0 G_2$ process, which can be described as in terms of neutral pion and tensor glueball $G_2$'s distribution amplitudes. The predictions for the rapidity distributions of UPCs cross sections and total cross sections are presented. The theoretical uncertainty of the whole calculation is considered. We consider th…
We present an analysis of centrality-dependent pseudorapidity distributions of produced charged hadrons in pPb and PbPb collisions at the LHC energy of sqrt{s_NN}=5.02 TeV, and of minimum-bias pPb collisions at 8.16 TeV within the nonequilibrium-statistical relativistic diffusion model (RDM). In a three-source approach, the role of the fragmentation sources is emphasized. Together with the Jacobian transformation from rapidity to pseudorapidity and the limiting fragmentation conjecture, these are essential for modeling the centrality dependence. For central PbPb collisions, a prediction at the…
We study the two-photon production of the Higgs boson, $\rm γγ\to H$, at the Future Circular Collider (FCC) in ultraperipheral PbPb and pPb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}} = 39$ and 63 TeV. Signal and background events are generated with MADGRAPH 5, including $γ$ fluxes from the proton and lead ions in the equivalent photon approximation, yielding $\rm σ(γγ\to H)$ = 1.75 nb and 1.5 pb in PbPb and pPb collisions respectively. We analyse the H$\,\to b\bar{b}$ decay channel including realistic reconstruction efficiencies for the final-state $b$-jets, showered and hadronized with PYTHIA 8, as well as…
The perspectives for measuring the top quark and the Higgs boson in nuclear collisions at the LHC and Future Circular Collider (FCC) are summarized. Perturbative QCD calculations at (N)NLO accuracy, including nuclear parton distribution functions, are used to determine their cross sections and visible yields after standard analysis cuts in PbPb and pPb collisions at the LHC ($\sqrt{s_{NN}}$ = 5.5, 8.8 TeV) and FCC ($\sqrt{s_{NN}}$ = 39, 63 TeV). In their "cleanest" decay channels, $\rm t\bar{t}\to b\bar{b} 2 \ell 2ν$ and $\rm H\to γγ, 4\ell$, about 10$^3$ ($10^5$) top-quark and 10 (10$^3$) Hig…
We discuss diphoton semi(exclusive) production in ultraperipheral lead-lead collisions at energy of $\sqrt{s_{NN}}$ = 5.5 TeV (LHC) and in proton-proton collisions at $\sqrt{s_{pp}}$ = 7 TeV (LHC) and $\sqrt{s_{pp}}$ = 100 TeV (FCC). The nuclear calculations are based on equivalent photon approximation in the impact parameter space. The cross sections for elementary $γγ\to γγ$ subprocess are calculated including three different mechanisms: box diagrams with leptons and quarks in the loops, a VDM-Regge contribution with virtual intermediate hadronic excitations of the photons and the two-gluon …
The unique physics opportunities accessible with nuclear collisions at the CERN Future Circular Collider (FCC) are summarized. Lead-lead (PbPb) and proton-lead (pPb) collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}$ = 39 and 63 TeV respectively with $\mathcal{L}_{int}$ = 33 nb$^{-1}$ and 8 pb$^{-1}$ monthly integrated luminosities, will provide unprecedented experimental conditions to study quark-gluon matter at temperatures ${\cal O}$(1 GeV). The following topics are succinctly discussed: (i) charm-quark densities thrice larger than at the LHC, leading to direct heavy-quark impact in the bulk QGP properties, (ii…
