The perspectives for measuring the top quark and the Higgs boson in nuclear collisions at the LHC and Future Circular Collider (FCC) are summarized. Perturbative QCD calculations at (N)NLO accuracy, including nuclear parton distribution functions, are used to determine their cross sections and visible yields after standard analysis cuts in PbPb and pPb collisions at the LHC ($\sqrt{s_{NN}}$ = 5.5, 8.8 TeV) and FCC ($\sqrt{s_{NN}}$ = 39, 63 TeV). In their "cleanest" decay channels, $\rm t\bar{t}\to b\bar{b} 2 \ell 2ν$ and $\rm H\to γγ, 4\ell$, about 10$^3$ ($10^5$) top-quark and 10 (10$^3$) Higgs-boson events are expected at the LHC (FCC) for their total nominal integrated luminosities. Whereas the $\rm t \bar{t}$ observation is clearcut at both colliders, evidence for Higgs production, perfectly possible at the FCC, requires integrating $\times$30 more luminosities at the LHC.
The Monte Carlo integrator HAWK provides precision predictions for Higgs production at hadron colliders in vector-boson fusion and Higgs strahlung, i.e. in production processes where the Higgs boson is Attached to WeaK bosons. The fully differential predictions include the full QCD and electroweak next-to-leading-order corrections. Results are computed as integrated cross sections and as binned distributions for important hadron-collider observables.
We study the indirect constraints on the quartic Higgs self-coupling that arise from double-Higgs production at future hadron colliders. To this purpose, we calculate the two-loop contributions to the $gg \to hh$ amplitudes that involve a modified $h^4$ vertex. Based on our results, we estimate the reach of a $pp$ collider operating at $27 \, {\rm TeV}$ and $100 \, {\rm TeV}$ centre-of-mass energy in constraining the cubic and quartic Higgs self-couplings by measurements of double-Higgs and triple-Higgs production in gluon-fusion.
We describe recent work on the physics of the Higgs boson at future muon colliders. Starting from the low energy muon collider at the Higgs boson pole we extend our discussion to the multi-TeV muon collider and outline the physics case for such machines about the properties of the Higgs boson and physics beyond the Standard Model that can be possibly discovered.
The talk summarises the case for Higgs physics in $e^+e^-$ collisions and explains how Higgs parameters can be extracted in a model-independent way at the International Linear Collider (ILC). The expected precision will be discussed in the context of projections for the experiments at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC).
Measuring the Higgs-self coupling is one of the most crucial goals of the future colliders, such as the LHC Run-II and the ILC-based photon collider. Since the new physics can affects the di-Higgs production not only from the Higgs self-coupling but also from the top-Higgs coupling, we investigate the di-Higgs production in the presence of the non-standard top-Higgs coupling at the LHC and ILC-based photon collider given the recent Higgs data. Due to the changed interference behaviors of the top quark loops with itself or $W$ boson loops, we find that the cross section of di-Higgs production a…
We propose three ways to determine the CP eigenvalue of the Higgs boson at the hadron collider as follows: 1. We determine the Higgs CP eigenvalue from the production cross section which is affected by the CP eigenvalue of the Higgs boson. 2. We adopt the CP selection rules to determine the Higgs CP eigenvalue. 3. We determine the CP property by the momentum distribution of the decay products of the Higgs boson. Our methods can be applied for a wide range of the Higgs mass.
Higgs couplings can be measured at a linear collider with high precision. We estimate the uncertainties of such measurements, including theoretical errors. Based on these results we show an extrapolation for a combined analysis at a linear collider and a high-luminosity LHC.
The $s$-channel resonant production of the Higgs boson at a 125 GeV muon collider enables a unique way to determine the Higgs properties. However, a clear picture of the achievable Higgs precision has not yet been established. We perform a phenomenological study of the Higgs measurements at such resonant muon collider Higgs factory and present a systematic, detailed, and consistent extraction of Higgs precision measurements. Many new aspects about the lineshape scan, including the scaling with luminosity, optimal scan range, minimal scan steps, correlations with exclusive measurement, effectiv…
Higgs boson properties could be studied with a high accuracy at a muon collider via the s-channel resonant production. We consider the situation where the center-of-mass energy of the muon collider is off the resonance above the Higgs mass. We discuss the discovery potential for a generic heavy Higgs boson ($H$) and compare different production mechanisms, including the "radiative return" ($γH$), $Z$-boson associated production ($ZH$) and heavy Higgs pair production ($HA$). These production mechanisms do not sensitively rely on a priori knowledge of the heavy Higgs boson mass. We include vario…
Higgs pair production provides a unique handle for measuring the strength of the Higgs self interaction and constraining the shape of the Higgs potential. Among the proposed future facilities, a circular 100 TeV proton-proton collider would provide the most precise measurement of this crucial quantity. In this work, we perform a detailed analysis of the most promising decay channels and derive the expected sensitivity of their combination, assuming an integrated luminosity of 30 ab$^{-1}$. Depending on the assumed systematic uncertainties, we observe that the Higgs self-coupling will be measur…
Although the Higgs boson has been discovered, its self-couplings are poorly constrained. This leaves the nature of the Higgs boson undetermined. Motivated by different Higgs potential scenarios other than the Landau-Ginzburg type in the standard model, we systematically organize various new physics scenarios -- elementary Higgs, Nambu-Goldstone Higgs, Coleman-Weinberg Higgs, and Tadpole-induced Higgs, etc. We find that double-Higgs production at the 27 TeV high energy LHC can be used to discriminate different Higgs potential scenarios, while it is necessary to use triple-Higgs production at a …
The measurement of Higgs self-coupling is one of the most crucial physics goals at the future colliders. At the LHC, the di-Higgs production is a main way to measure the Higgs trilinear coupling. As a complementary to the di-Higgs production, $t \bar{t} hh$ process may open a new avenue to measure di-Higgs physics at the LHC and a future 100 TeV $pp$ collider or a high energy $e^+e^-$ collider since the extra $t\bar t$ in the final states may efficiently suppress the backgrounds. However, such a kind of process is also controlled by the top-Higgs coupling. In this work, we investigate the impa…
We study the effects of the initial state radiation on the $s$-channel Higgs boson resonant production at $μ^+μ^-$ and $e^+e^-$ colliders by convoluting with the beam energy spread profile of the collider and the Breit-Wigner resonance profile of the signal. We assess their impact on both the Higgs signal and SM backgrounds for the leading decay channels $h\rightarrow b\bar b,\ WW^*$. Our study improves the existing analyses of the proposed future resonant Higgs factories and provides further guidance for the accelerator designs with respect to the physical goals.
Measuring the shape of the Higgs boson potential is of paramount importance and will be a challenging task at current as well as future colliders. While the expectations for the measurement of the trilinear Higgs self-coupling are rather promising, an accurate measurement of the quartic self-coupling interaction is presently considered extremely challenging even at a future 100 TeV proton-proton collider. In this work we explore the sensitivity that a muon collider with a center of mass energy in the multi-TeV range, and luminosities of the order of 10^35cm^-2s^-1, as presently under discussio…
In the light of the discovery of a 126 GeV Standard-Model-like Higgs boson at the LHC, we evaluate the achievable accuracies for direct measurements of the width, mass, and the s-channel resonant production cross section of the Higgs boson at a proposed muon collider. We find that with a beam energy resolution of R=0.01% (0.003%) and integrated luminosity of 0.5 fb^{-1} (1 fb^{-1}), a muon collider would enable us to determine the Standard-Model-like Higgs width to +/- 0.35 MeV (+/- 0.15 MeV) by combining two complementary channels of the WW^* and b\bar b final states. A non-Standard-Model Hig…
Higgs physics at hadron colliders as the LHC is reviewed within the Standard Model (SM) and its minimal supersymmetric extension (MSSM) by summarizing the present state-of-the-art of theoretical predictions for the production cross sections and decay rates.
A Higgs factory like the International Linear Collider (ILC) can play a significant role in searching for exotic decays of Higgs bosons. As an illustration, we investigate the ILC sensitivity for the decay topology $h\to a_1 a_1 \to τ\bar ττ\bar τ$ in the Next-to-Minimal-Supersymmetric-Standard-Model (NMSSM). Here $h$ can be either Standard-Model-like or non-standard, and $a_{1}$ is the lightest CP-odd Higgs boson. We also compare results to expectations for this channel at the LHC.
The discovery of the Higgs boson (and still nothing else) have triggered appearance of many proposals of Higgs factories for precision measurement of the Higgs properties. Among them there are several projects of photon colliders (PC) without e+e- in addition to PLC based on e+e- linear colliders ILC and CLIC. In this paper, following a brief discussion of Higgs factories physics program I give an overview of photon colliders based on linear colliders ILC and CLIC, and of the recently proposed photon-collider Higgs factories with no e+e- collision option based on recirculation linacs in ring t…
Particle Identification (PID) plays a key role in heavy flavor physics in high-energy physics experiments. However, its impact on Higgs physics is still not clear. In this note, we will explore some of the potential of PID to improve the identification of heavy-flavour jets by using identified charged Kaons in addition to the traditional vertexing information. This could result in a better measurment of the Higgs-charm Yukawa coupling at the future $e^+e^-$ colliders.
The search and study of heavy Higgs bosons is an important part of the anticipated physics program of a high energy e+e- linear collider. This paper reviews the expected sensitivity of e+e- collisions from 0.5 up to 3 TeV in the study of the physics of charged Higgs bosons in supersymmetric scenarios.
