Consider a team with two types of agents: targets and observers. Observers are aerial UAVs that observe targets moving on land with their movements restricted to the paths that form a planar graph on the surface. Observers have limited range of vision and targets do not avoid observers. The objective is to maximize the integral of the number of targets observed in the observation interval. Taking advantage of the fact that the future positions of targets in the short term are predictable, we show in this article a modified hill climbing algorithm that surpasses its previous versions in this new setting of the CTO problem.

In this paper, the collision avoidance problem for non-holonomic robots moving at constant linear speeds in the 2-D plane is considered. The maneuvers to avoid collisions are designed using dynamic vortex potential fields (PFs) and their negative gradients; this formulation leads to a reciprocal behaviour between the robots, denoted as being cooperative. The repulsive field is selected as a function of the velocity and position of a robot relative to another and introducing vorticity in its definition guarantees the absence of local minima. Such a repulsive field is activated by a robot only w…

We propose a novel scheme for surveillance of a dynamic ground convoy moving along a non-linear trajectory, by aerial agents that maintain a uniformly spaced formation on a time-varying elliptical orbit encompassing the convoy. Elliptical orbits are used as they are more economical than circular orbits for circumnavigating the group of targets in the moving convoy. The proposed scheme includes an algorithm for computing feasible elliptical orbits, a vector guidance law for agent motion along the desired orbit, and a cooperative strategy to control the speeds of the aerial agents in order to qu…

Training multiple agents to perform safe and cooperative control in the complex scenarios of autonomous driving has been a challenge. For a small fleet of cars moving together, this paper proposes Lepus, a new approach to training multiple agents. Lepus adopts a pure cooperative manner for training multiple agents, featured with the shared parameters of policy networks and the shared reward function of multiple agents. In particular, Lepus pre-trains the policy networks via an adversarial process, improving its collaborative decision-making capability and further the stability of car driving. …
Self-play is a common paradigm for constructing solutions in Markov games that can yield optimal policies in collaborative settings. However, these policies often adopt highly-specialized conventions that make playing with a novel partner difficult. To address this, recent approaches rely on encoding symmetry and convention-awareness into policy training, but these require strong environmental assumptions and can complicate policy training. We therefore propose moving the learning of conventions to the belief space. Specifically, we propose a belief learning model that can maintain beliefs ove…
