For the first time, we compute three-loop contributions to all triple vertices in QCD at the symmetric point. The analytic results are obtained in massless QCD with an arbitrary color group in the Landau gauge. All new loop integrals are expressed in terms of harmonic polylogarithms at the sixth root of unity. These corrections allow us to derive expressions for the four-loop QCD beta function in a set of momentum-subtraction schemes.
In this paper we present a full set of 2- and 3-point functions for massless QCD at three-loop order in the MSbar scheme. The vertex functions are evaluated at the asymmetric point with one vanishing momentum. These results are used to relate the MSbar coupling constant to that of various momentum subtraction renormalization schemes at three-loop order. With the help of the known four-loop MS-bar beta-function we then determine the four-loop coefficients of the corresponding MOM beta-functions. As an application we consider the momentum dependence (running) of the three-gluon asymmetrical vert…
We present the full expressions for the QCD beta-function in the MOMggg, MOMq and MOMh renormalization schemes at three loops for an arbitrary colour group in the Landau gauge. The results for all three schemes are in very good agreement with the SU(3) numerical estimates provided by Chetyrkin and Seidensticker.
In a class of Type-II seesaw dominated $SO(10)$ models proposed recently with heavy neutrinos, extra $Z'$ boson, and resonant leptogenesis, at first we show that the lightest first generation sterile neutrino that mediates dominant contributions to neutrinoless double beta decay also generates the displaced vertex leading to verifiable like-sign di-electron as well as di-muon production events outside the LHC detectors having suppressed standard model back-ground and missing energy. Resonant leptogenesis in this case is implemented by a pair of quasi-degenerate sterile neutrinos of the second …
We consider the problem of determining the beta-functions for any reduced effective field theory. Even though not all the Green's functions of a reduced effective field theory are renormalizable, unlike the full effective field theory, certain effective beta- functions for the reduced set of couplings may be calculated without having to introduce vertices in the Feynman rules for redundant operators. These effective beta-functions suffice to apply the renormalization group equation to any transition amplitude (i.e., S- matrix element), thereby rendering reduced effective field theories no more…
We determine the three-loop coefficient of the beta function in the asymmetric momentum subtraction scheme in Landau gauge. This scheme is convenient for lattice studies of α_s, the running coupling constant of QCD. We present high statistics lattice results for α_s in the SU(3) Yang-Mills theory without quark, compare with the three-loop running and extract the value of the corresponding Λ_\msbar parameter. We estimate the systematic error coming from four-loop terms. We obtain the result: Λ_\msbar = 295 (5) (15) {a^{-1}(β=6.0) \over 1.97 GeV} MeV.
We report on a two-loop supersymmetric contribution to the magnetic moment (g-2)_mu of the muon which is enhanced by two powers of tan(beta). This contribution arises from a shift in the relation between the muon mass and Yukawa coupling and can increase the supersymmetric contribution to (g-2)_mu sizably. As a result, if the currently observed 3 sigma deviation between the experimental and SM theory value of (g-2)_mu is analyzed within the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM), the derived constraints on the parameter space are modified significantly: If (g-2)_mu is used to determine t…
We compute the triple gluon, quark-gluon and ghost-gluon vertices of QCD at the symmetric subtraction point at two loops in the MSbar scheme. In addition we renormalize each of the three vertices in their respective momentum subtraction schemes, MOMggg, MOMq and MOMh. The conversion functions of all the wave functions, coupling constant and gauge parameter renormalization constants of each of the schemes relative to MSbar are determined analytically. These are then used to derive the three loop anomalous dimensions of the gluon, quark, Faddeev-Popov ghost and gauge parameter as well as the bet…
Threshold effects related to fermion masses are considered for an all-order beta-function based on a background field momentum subtraction scheme. Far away from all thresholds, the suggested beta-function reduces to the conjectured all-order form inspired by the Novikov-Shifman-Vainshtein-Zakharov beta-function of N=1 supersymmetric gauge theories with a fixed integer number of fermion flavours. At (formally) infinite masses the corresponding pure Yang--Mills beta-function is recovered. We discuss applications to the phase diagram of non-Abelian field theories.
A number of DR-bar renormalization constants in softly broken SUSY-QCD are evaluated to three-loop level: the wave function renormalization constants for quarks, squarks, gluons, gluinos, ghosts, and epsilon-scalars, and the renormalization constants for the quark and gluino mass as well as for all cubic vertices. The latter allow us to derive the corresponding beta functions through three loops, all of which we find to be identical to the expression for the gauge beta function obtained by Jack, Jones, and North [Jack:1996vg] (see also Ref. [Pickering:2001aq]). This explicitely demonstrates th…
We present a concise summary of recent results for the vector correlator in massless QCD at order ${\cal O}(α_s^4)$, with all colour factors being given for a generic colour group. As a direct consequence we arrive at: (i) the full QCD contribution to the QED $β$--function of order $α^2\, α_s^4$ in the MSbar- and MOM-schemes; (ii) the full five-loop result of order $α^6$ for the $β$-function of QED with a generic number of single-charged fermions, again for the MSbar- and MOM-schemes.
Supersymmetric loop corrections induce potentially large CP-violating couplings of the Higgs bosons to nucleons and electrons that do not vanish in the limit of heavy superpartners. The Higgs-mediated CP-odd four-fermion operators are enhanced by tan^3 beta and induce electric dipole moments of heavy atoms which exceed the current experimental bounds for the electroweak scale Higgs masses and tan beta > 10. If only the first two sfermion generations are heavy, the Higgs-mediated contributions typically dominate over the Barr-Zee type two-loop diagrams at tan beta > 30.
The investigation of the scalar gluonium correlator is interesting because it carries the quantum numbers of the vacuum and the relevant hadronic current is related to the anomalous trace of the QCD energy-momentum tensor in the chiral limit. After reviewing the purely perturbative corrections known up to next-next-to-leading order, the behaviour of the correlator is studied to all orders by means of the large-beta_0 approximation. Similar to the QCD Adler function, the large-order behaviour is governed by the leading ultraviolet renormalon pole. The structure of infrared renormalon poles, bei…
We calculate the renormalization constants of the maximally extended N=4 supersymmetric Yang-Mills theories in the dimensional reduction scheme up to four loops. We have found, that the beta-function is zero both from gauge and Yukawa vertices.
We calculate the momentum dependence of three particle vertices $σγγ$, $σργ$ and $σρρ$ in the context of a Nambu Jona Lasinio type model. We show how they influence the processes $γγ\rightarrow σ\rightarrow ππ$, $ρ\rightarrow γσ$ and $γγ\rightarrow ρρ$ and how chiral symmetry shadows the presence of the $σ$.
Within the minimal supersymmetric standard model (MSSM), the large tan(beta) regime can lead to important modifications in the pattern of CP-violating sources contributing to low energy electric dipole moments (EDMs). In particular, four-fermion CP-violating interactions induced by Higgs exchange should be accounted for alongside the constituent EDMs of quarks and electrons. To this end, we present a comprehensive analysis of three low energy EDM observables - namely the EDMs of thallium, mercury and the neutron - at large tan(beta), in terms of one- and two-loop contributions to the constitue…
We present a comprehensive discussion of renormalisation of 3-point functions of scalar operators in conformal field theories in general dimension. We have previously shown that conformal symmetry uniquely determines the momentum-space 3-point functions in terms of certain integrals involving a product of three Bessel functions (triple-K integrals). The triple-K integrals diverge when the dimensions of operators satisfy certain relations and we discuss how to obtain renormalised 3-point functions in all cases. There are three different types of divergences: ultralocal, semilocal and nonlocal, …
We argue that a technique called analytic perturbation theory leads to a well-defined method for analytically continuing the running coupling constant from the spacelike to the timelike region, which allows us to give a self-consistent definition of the running coupling constant for timelike momentum. The corresponding $β$-function is proportional to the spectral density, which confirms a hypothesis due to Schwinger.
We show that chiral effective field theory (EFT) two-body currents provide important contributions to the quenching of low-momentum-transfer Gamow-Teller transitions, and use chiral EFT to predict the momentum-transfer dependence that is probed in neutrinoless double-beta decay. We then calculate for the first time the neutrinoless double-beta decay operator based on chiral EFT currents and study the nuclear matrix elements at successive orders. The contributions from chiral two-body currents are significant and should be included in all calculations.
We present numerical results for the two loop QCD corrections to the ghost gluon vertex, the quark gluon vertex, and the triple gluon vertex in the massless limit at the symmetric point. We restrict ourselves to the tensor structures existing in the tree level. The corrections are used to examine different coupling constant definitions in momentum subtraction schemes and the corresponding three-loop $β$ functions.
The beta function of the vacuum energy density is computed at the four-loop level in massive O(N) symmetric phi^4 theory. Dimensional regularization is used in conjunction with the MSbar scheme and all calculations are in momentum space in the massive theory. The result is beta_v = g N/4+g^3 N(N+2)/96+g^4 N(N+2)(N+8)[12 zeta(3)-25]/1296+o(g^5).
Using the dipole framework for QCD at small x in the 1/N_c limit, we derive the expression of the 1 -> p dipole multiplicity density in momentum space. This gives an analytical expression for the 1 -> p QCD Pomeron amplitudes in terms of one-loop integration of effective vertices in transverse momentum. Conformal invariance and a Hilbert space construction for dipole correlation functions are the main tools of the derivation. Relations with conformal field theories in the classical limit are discussed.
We consider a symmetric scalar theory with quartic coupling in 2- and 3-dimensions and compare the self-consistent 4-point vertex obtained from the 4PI effective action with the Bethe-Salpeter 4-vertex from 2PI effective action. At zero external momenta the two vertices agree well with each other when the coupling strength is small, but differences between them become more and more pronounced as the coupling strength is increased. We also study the momentum dependence of the two vertices and show that for certain momentum configurations they are almost identical, but differ for general momentu…
Neutrino masses can be generated radiatively. In such scenarios their masses are calculated by evaluating a self-energy diagram with vanishing external momentum, i.e. taking only the leading order term in a momentum expansion. The difference between the full self-energy and the mass is experimentally difficult to access, since one needs off-shell neurinos to observe them. However, massive Majorana neutrinos that mediate neutrinoless double beta decay ($0νββ$) are off-shell, with the virtuality of order 100 MeV. If the energy scale of the self-energy loop is of the order of this virtuality, the…
Vertices are of central importance for constructing QCD bound states out of the individual constituents of the theory, i.e. quarks and gluons. In particular, the determination of three-point vertices is crucial in non-perturbative investigations of QCD. We use numerical simulations of lattice gauge theory to obtain results for the 3-point vertices in Landau-gauge SU(2) Yang-Mills theory in three and four space-time dimensions for various kinematic configurations. In all cases considered, the ghost-gluon vertex is found to be essentially tree-level-like, while the three-gluon vertex is suppress…
CP violation from physics beyond the Standard Model may reside in triple boson vertices of the electroweak theory. We review the effective theory description and discuss how CP violating contributions to these vertices might be discerned by electric dipole moments (EDM) or diboson production at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). Despite triple boson CP violating interactions entering EDMs only at the two-loop level, we find that EDM experiments are generally more powerful than the diboson processes. To give example to these general considerations we perform the comparison between EDMs and collid…
In the framework of the QCD effective action the vertices of gluon emission in interaction of reggeons are studied in the limit of small longitudinal momenta of the emitted gluon. It is found that the vertices drastically simplify in this limit so that the gluon becomes emitted from a single reggeon coupled to the projectile and target via multireggeon vertices. Contribution from this kinematical region is studied for double and 2x2 elementary collisions inside the composite projectile and target.
We have computed the self-energies and a set of three-particle vertex functions for massless QCD at the four-loop level in the MSbar renormalization scheme. The vertex functions are evaluated at points where one of the momenta vanishes. Analytical results are obtained for a generic gauge group and with the full gauge dependence, which was made possible by extensive use of the Forcer program for massless four-loop propagator integrals. The bare results in dimensional regularization are provided in terms of master integrals and rational coefficients; the latter are exact in any space-time dimens…
We analyze various contributions to neutrinoless double beta decay ($0νββ$) in a TeV-scale Left-Right Symmetric Model (LRSM) for type-I seesaw dominance. We find that the momentum-dependent effects due to $W_L-W_R$ exchange ($λ$-diagram) and $W_L-W_R$ mixing ($η$-diagram) could give dominant contributions to the $0νββ$ amplitude in a wide range of the LRSM parameter space. In particular, for a relatively large $W_L-W_R$ mixing, the $η$-contribution by itself could saturate the current experimental limit on the $0νββ$ half-life, thereby providing stringent constraints on the relevant LRSM param…
