Acoustic anomaly detection aims at distinguishing abnormal acoustic signals from the normal ones. It suffers from the class imbalance issue and the lacking in the abnormal instances. In addition, collecting all kinds of abnormal or unknown samples for training purpose is impractical and timeconsuming. In this paper, a novel Gaussian Mixture Generative Adversarial Network (GMGAN) is proposed under semi-supervised learning framework, in which the underlying structure of training data is not only captured in spectrogram reconstruction space, but also can be further restricted in the space of latent representation in a discriminant manner. Experiments show that our model has clear superiority over previous methods, and achieves the state-of-the-art results on DCASE dataset.
In this paper, we investigate algorithms for anomaly detection. Previous anomaly detection methods focus on modeling the distribution of non-anomalous data provided during training. However, this does not necessarily ensure the correct detection of anomalous data. We propose a new Regularized Cycle Consistent Generative Adversarial Network (RCGAN) in which deep neural networks are adversarially trained to better recognize anomalous samples. This approach is based on leveraging a penalty distribution with a new definition of the loss function and novel use of discriminator networks. It is based…
This paper aims to develop an acoustic signal-based unsupervised anomaly detection method for automatic machine monitoring. Existing approaches such as deep autoencoder (DAE), variational autoencoder (VAE), conditional variational autoencoder (CVAE) etc. have limited representation capabilities in the latent space and, hence, poor anomaly detection performance. Different models have to be trained for each different kind of machines to accurately perform the anomaly detection task. To solve this issue, we propose a new method named as hierarchical conditional variational autoencoder (HCVAE). Th…

Anomaly detection is a fundamental problem in computer vision area with many real-world applications. Given a wide range of images belonging to the normal class, emerging from some distribution, the objective of this task is to construct the model to detect out-of-distribution images belonging to abnormal instances. Semi-supervised Generative Adversarial Networks (GAN)-based methods have been gaining popularity in anomaly detection task recently. However, the training process of GAN is still unstable and challenging. To solve these issues, a novel adversarial dual autoencoder network is propos…
In industrial applications, the early detection of malfunctioning factory machinery is crucial. In this paper, we consider acoustic malfunction detection via transfer learning. Contrary to the majority of current approaches which are based on deep autoencoders, we propose to extract features using neural networks that were pretrained on the task of image classification. We then use these features to train a variety of anomaly detection models and show that this improves results compared to convolutional autoencoders in recordings of four different factory machines in noisy environments. In this paper, we attack the anomaly detection problem by directly modeling the data distribution with deep architectures. We propose deep structured energy based models (DSEBMs), where the energy function is the output of a deterministic deep neural network with structure. We develop novel model architectures to integrate EBMs with different types of data such as static data, sequential data, and spatial data, and apply appropriate model architectures to adapt to the data structure. Our training algorithm is built upon the recent development of score matching \cite{sm}, which connects an EBM …
Acoustic scene classification and related tasks have been dominated by Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs). Top-performing CNNs use mainly audio spectograms as input and borrow their architectural design primarily from computer vision. A recent study has shown that restricting the receptive field (RF) of CNNs in appropriate ways is crucial for their performance, robustness and generalization in audio tasks. One side effect of restricting the RF of CNNs is that more frequency information is lost. In this paper, we perform a systematic investigation of different RF configuration for various CNN…
Failures or breakdowns in factory machinery can be costly to companies, so there is an increasing demand for automatic machine inspection. Existing approaches to acoustic signal-based unsupervised anomaly detection, such as those using a deep autoencoder (DA) or Gaussian mixture model (GMM), have poor anomaly-detection performance. In this work, we propose a new method based on a deep autoencoding Gaussian mixture model with hyper-parameter optimization (DAGMM-HO). In our method, the DAGMM-HO applies the conventional DAGMM to the audio domain for the first time, with the idea that its total op…
We present CP-JKU submission to MediaEval 2019; a Receptive Field-(RF)-regularized and Frequency-Aware CNN approach for tagging music with emotion/mood labels. We perform an investigation regarding the impact of the RF of the CNNs on their performance on this dataset. We observe that ResNets with smaller receptive fields -- originally adapted for acoustic scene classification -- also perform well in the emotion tagging task. We improve the performance of such architectures using techniques such as Frequency Awareness and Shake-Shake regularization, which were used in previous work on general a…

In this work, we present a general procedure for acoustic leak detection in water networks that satisfies multiple real-world constraints such as energy efficiency and ease of deployment. Based on recordings from seven contact microphones attached to the water supply network of a municipal suburb, we trained several shallow and deep anomaly detection models. Inspired by how human experts detect leaks using electronic sounding-sticks, we use these models to repeatedly listen for leaks over a predefined decision horizon. This way we avoid constant monitoring of the system. While we found the det…
In this work, we derive a generic overcomplete frame thresholding scheme based on risk minimization. Overcomplete frames being favored for analysis tasks such as classification, regression or anomaly detection, we provide a way to leverage those optimal representations in real-world applications through the use of thresholding. We validate the method on a large scale bird activity detection task via the scattering network architecture performed by means of continuous wavelets, known for being an adequate dictionary in audio environments.

Batch normalization (BN) is an effective method to accelerate model training and improve the generalization performance of neural networks. In this paper, we propose an improved batch normalization technique called attentive batch normalization (ABN) in Long Short Term Memory (LSTM) based acoustic modeling for automatic speech recognition (ASR). In the proposed method, an auxiliary network is used to dynamically generate the scaling and shifting parameters in batch normalization, and attention mechanisms are introduced to improve their regularized performance. Furthermore, two schemes, frame-l…
This paper provides a baseline system for First-shot-compliant unsupervised anomaly detection (ASD) for machine condition monitoring. First-shot ASD does not allow systems to do machine-type dependent hyperparameter tuning or tool ensembling based on the performance metric calculated with the grand truth. To show benchmark performance for First-shot ASD, this paper proposes an anomaly sound detection system that works on the domain generalization task in the Detection and Classification of Acoustic Scenes and Events (DCASE) 2022 Challenge Task 2: "Unsupervised Anomalous Sound Detection for Mac…
We present an iVector based Acoustic Scene Classification (ASC) system suited for real life settings where active foreground speech can be present. In the proposed system, each recording is represented by a fixed-length iVector that models the recording's important properties. A regularized Gaussian backend classifier with class-specific covariance models is used to extract the relevant acoustic scene information from these iVectors. To alleviate the large performance degradation when a foreground speaker dominates the captured signal, we investigate the use of the iVector framework on Mel-Fre…

The goal of Unsupervised Anomaly Detection (UAD) is to detect anomalous signals under the condition that only non-anomalous (normal) data is available beforehand. In UAD under Domain-Shift Conditions (UAD-S), data is further exposed to contextual changes that are usually unknown beforehand. Motivated by the difficulties encountered in the UAD-S task presented at the 2021 edition of the Detection and Classification of Acoustic Scenes and Events (DCASE) challenge, we visually inspect Uniform Manifold Approximations and Projections (UMAPs) for log-STFT, log-mel and pretrained Look, Listen and Lea…
