We examine the spectral structure and many-body dynamics of two and three repulsively interacting bosons trapped in a one-dimensional double-well, for variable barrier height, inter-particle interaction strength, and initial conditions. By exact diagonalization of the many-particle Hamiltonian, we specifically explore the dynamical behaviour of the particles launched either at the single particle ground state or saddle point energy, in a time-independent potential. We complement these results by a characterisation of the cross-over from diabatic to quasi-adiabatic evolution under finite-time switching of the potential barrier, via the associated time-evolution of a single particle's von Neumann entropy. This is achieved with the help of the multiconfigurational time-dependent Hartree method for indistinguishable particles (\textsc{Mctdh-x}) -- which also allows us to extrapolate our results for increasing particle numbers.
We study the evolution of a system of interacting ultracold bosons, which presents nonlinear, chaotic, behaviors in the limit of very large number of particles. Using the spectral entropy as an indicator of chaos and three different numerical approaches : Exact diagonalization, truncated Husimi method and mean-field (Gross-Pitaevskii) approximation, we put into evidence the destructive impact of quantum noise on the emergence of the nonlinear dynamics.
We investigate the ground state properties and tunneling dynamics of ultracold dipolar bosons in a one dimensional triple well trap from a few-body ab-initio perspective. Our focus is primarily on the distinctive features of dipolar bosons compared to the contact interacting bosons. Formation of intra-well localization is observed for very strong dipolar interaction. General population rearangement as well as fragmentation and localization effects have been found, depending strongly on the particle number. The energy spectrum for two particles exhibits avoided crossings that lead to several di…
The different resonant regimes that can be achieved by using a magnetic Feshbach resonance are analyzed with a separable two-channel model. Emphasis is put on the case of narrow resonances in a region of intermediate detuning where a shallow dimer exists and an approximate law including the background scattering length for the three-body recombination rate is derived.
We study the scattering of a weak and far-detuned light from a system of ultracold bosons in 1D and 3D optical lattices. We show the connection between angular distributions of the scattered light and statistical properties of a Bose gas in a periodic potential. The angular patterns are determined by the Fourier transform of the second-order correlation function, and thus they can be used to retrieve information on particle number fluctuations and correlations. We consider superfluid and Mott insulator phases of the Bose gas in a lattice, and we analyze in detail how the scattering depends on …
We study the out-of-equilibrium dynamics of ultracold bosons in a double- and triple-well potential within the Bose-Hubbard model by means of the semiclassical Herman-Kluk propagator and compare the results to the frequently applied "classical dynamics" calculation in terms of the truncated Wigner approximation (TWA). For the double-well system we find the semiclassical results in excellent agreement with the numerically exact ones, while the TWA is not able to reproduce any revivals of the wave function. The triple-well system turns out to be more difficult to handle due to the irregularity o…
We study macroscopic superpositions in the orbital rather than the spatial degrees of freedom, in a three-dimensional double-well system. We show that the ensuing dynamics of $N$ interacting excited ultracold bosons, which in general requires at least eight single-particle modes and ${N+7 \choose N}$ Fock vectors, is described by a surprisingly small set of many-body states. An initial state with half the atoms in each well, and purposely excited in one of them, gives rise to the tunneling of axisymmetric and transverse vortex structures. We show that transverse vortices tunnel orders of magni…
We consider the dynamics of two-dimensional interacting ultracold bosons triggered by suddenly switching on an artificial gauge field. The system is initialized in the ground state of a harmonic trapping potential. As a function of the strength of the applied artificial gauge, we analyze the emergent dynamics by monitoring the angular momentum, the fragmentation as well the entropy and variance of the entropy of absorption or single-shot images. We solve the underlying time-dependent many-boson Schrödinger equation using the multiconfigurational time-dependent Hartree method for indistinguisha…
We investigate the mechanism in the tunneling dynamics of open ultracold few-boson systems by numerically solving the time-dependent few-boson Schrödinger equation exactly. By starting from a weakly repulsive, initially coherent two-boson system we demonstrate that the decay dynamics incorporate fragmentation. The wavefunction of the tunneling state exhibits a pronounced dynamically-stable pattern which we explain by an analytical model. By studying more bosons and stronger interactions we arrive to the conclusion that the decay by tunneling is not a coherent process and exhibits a wealth of p…
We show that an ansatz based on independent composite bosons [Phys. Rep. 463, 215 (2008)] accurately describes the condensate fraction of molecular Bose-Einstein condensates in ultracold Fermi gases. The entanglement between the fermionic constituents of a single Feshbach molecule then governs the many-particle statistics of the condensate, from the limit of strong interaction to close to unitarity. This result strengthens the role of entanglement as the indispensable driver of composite-boson behavior. The condensate fraction of fermion pairs at zero temperature that we compute matches excell…
We study the influence of particle interaction on a quantum walk on a bipartite one-dimensional lattice with decay from every second site. The corresponding non-interacting (linear) system has been shown to have a topological transition described by the average displacement before decay. Here we use this topological quantity to distinguish coherent quantum dynamics from incoherent classical dynamics caused by a breaking of the translational symmetry. We furthermore analyze the behavior by means of a rate equation providing a quantitative description of the incoherent nonlinear dynamics.
A paradigm model of modern atom optics is studied, strongly interacting ultracold bosons in an optical lattice. This many-body system can be artificially opened in a controlled manner by modern experimental techniques. We present results based on a non-hermitian effective Hamiltonian whose quantum spectrum is analyzed. The direct access to the spectrum of the metastable many-body system allows us to easily identify relatively stable quantum states, corresponding to previously predicted solitonic many-body structures.
Following a `bottom-up approach' in understanding many-particle effects and dynamics we provide a systematic ab initio study of the dependence of the breathing dynamics of ultracold bosons in a 1D harmonic trap on the number of bosons ranging from few to many. To this end, we employ the Multi-Layer Multi-Configuration Time-Dependent Hartree method for Bosons (ML-MCTDHB) which has been developed very recently [S. Krönke, L. Cao, O. Vendrell and P. Schmelcher. {\it New J. Phys.} {\bf 15}, 063018 (2013)]. The beating behavior for two bosons is found numerically and consequently explained by an an…
We investigate theoretically soliton excitations and dynamics of their formation in strongly correlated systems of ultracold bosonic atoms in two and three dimensional optical lattices. We derive equations of nonlinear hydrodynamics in the regime of strong interactions and incommensurate fillings, when atoms can be treated as hard core bosons. When parameters change in one direction only we obtain Korteweg-de Vries type equation away from half-filling and modified KdV equation at half-filling. We apply this general analysis to a problem of the decay of the density step. We consider stability o…
We theoretically investigate the generation of microscopic atomic NOON states, corresponding to the coherent |N,0> + |0,N> superposition with N ~ 5 particles, via collective tunneling of interacting ultracold bosonic atoms within a symmetric double-well potential in the self-trapping regime. We show that a periodic driving of the double well with suitably tuned amplitude and frequency parameters allows one to substantially boost this tunneling process without altering its collective character. The time scale to generate the NOON superposition, which corresponds to half the tunneling time and w…
Based on a one-dimensional double-well superlattice with a unit filling of ultracold atoms per site, we propose a scheme to generate scalable entangled states in the superlattice through resonant lattice shakings. Our scheme utilizes periodic lattice modulations to entangle two atoms in each unit cell with respect to their orbital degree of freedom, and the complete atomic system in the superlattice becomes a cluster of bipartite entangled atom pairs. To demonstrate this we perform $ab \ initio$ quantum dynamical simulations using the Multi-Layer Multi-Configuration Time-Dependent Hartree Meth…
We investigate the out-of-equilibrium properties of a system of interacting bosons in a ring lattice. We present a Floquet driving that induces clockwise (counterclockwise) circulation of the particles among the odd (even) sites of the ring which can be mapped to a fully connected model of clocks of two counter-rotating species. The clock-like motion of the particles is at the core of a period-$n$ discrete time crystal where $L=2n$ is the number of lattice sites. In presence of a "staircase-like" on-site potential, we report the emergence of a second characteristic timescale in addition to the…
Ultracold interacting atoms are an excellent tool to study correlation functions of many-body systems that are generally eluding detection and manipulation. Herein, we investigate the ground state of bosons in a tilted triple-well potential and characterize the many-body state by the eigenvalues of its reduced one-body density matrix and Glauber correlation functions. We unveil how the interplay between the interaction strength and the tilt can be used to control the number of correlated wells as well as the fragmentation, i.e. the number of macroscopic eigenvalues of the reduced one-body dens…
We study ground-state properties and dynamics of a dilute ultracold atomic gas in a double well potential. The Gaussian barrier separating the two wells derives from the interaction between the atoms and a quantized field of a driven Fabry-Perot cavity. Due to intrinsic atom-field nonlinearity, several novel phenomena arise being the focus of this work. For the ground state, there is a critical pumping amplitude in which the atoms self-organize and the intra cavity field amplitude drastically increases. In the dynamical analysis, we show that the Josephson oscillations depend strongly on the a…
We present a joint experimental and theoretical analysis to assess the adiabatic experimental preparation of ultracold bosons in optical lattices aimed at simulating the three-dimensional Bose-Hubbard model. Thermometry of lattice gases is realized from the superfluid to the Mott regime by combining the measurement of three-dimensional momentum-space densities with ab-initio quantum Monte Carlo (QMC) calculations of the same quantity. The measured temperatures across the superfluid-to-Mott transition are in agreement with isentropic lines reconstructed via QMC for the experimental parameters o…
We study the interplay between disorder, interactions and decoherence induced by spontaneous emission process. Interactions are included in the Anderson model via a mean-field approximation, and a simple model for spontaneous emission is introduced. Numerical simulations allow us to study the effects of decoherence on different dynamical regimes. Physical pictures for the mechanisms at play are discussed and provide simple interpretations. Finally, we discuss the validity of scaling laws on the initial state width.
A correlated many-body calculation is presented to characterize the Shannon information entropy of trapped interacting bosons. We reformulate the one-body Shannon information entropy in terms of the one-body probability density. The minimum limit of the entropy uncertainty relation (EUR) is approached by making $N$ very small in our numerical work. We examine the effect of correlations in the calculation of information entropy. Comparison with the mean-field result shows that the correlated basis function is indeed required to characterize the important features of the information entropies. W…
We consider a one-dimensional "zigzag" lattice, pictured as a two-site wide single strip taken from a triangular lattice, affected by a tunable homogeneous magnetic flux piercing its triangular plaquettes. We focus on a semi-synthetic lattice produced by combining a one-dimensional spin-dependent lattice in the long direction with laser-induced transitions between atomic internal states that define the short synthetic dimension. In contrast to previous studies on semi-synthetic lattices, the atom-atom interactions are nonlocal in both lattice directions. We investigate the ground-state propert…
We study the dynamics of a nonlinear one-dimensional disordered system obtained by coupling the Anderson model with the Gross-Pitaevskii equation. An analytical model provides us with a single quantity globally characterizing the localization of the system. This quantity obeys a scaling law with respect to the width of the initial state, which can be used to characterize the dynamics independently of the initial state.
We study the crossover of a finite one-dimensional (1D) bosonic ensemble from weak to strong interactions in harmonic traps and multi-well potentials. Although these systems are very common in experimental setups and have been studied theoretically, an analytical description is lacking. We perform Diffusion Quantum Monte Carlo calculations which we show to be in good agreement with results from analytical functions that we construct to describe these systems. For the harmonic trap we use the correlated-pair wave function which we introduced in [1] considering here much larger atom numbers, goi…
Most recently, the path integral molecular dynamics has been successfully used to consider the thermodynamics of single-component identical bosons and fermions. In this work, the path integral molecular dynamics is developed to simulate the thermodynamics, Green's function and momentum distribution of two-component bosons in three dimensions. As an example of our general method, we consider the thermodynamics of up to sixteen bosons in a three-dimensional harmonic trap. For noninteracting spinor bosons, our simulation shows a bump in the heat capacity. As the repulsive interaction strength inc…
We present a brief overview of the phases and dynamics of ultracold bosons in an optical lattice in the presence of a tilt. We begin with a brief summary of the possible experimental setup for generating the tilt. This is followed by a discussion of the effective low-energy model for these systems and its equilibrium phases. We also chart the relation of this model to the recently studied system of ultracold Rydberg atoms. Next, we discuss the non-equilibrium dynamics of this model for quench, ramp and periodic protocols with emphasis on the periodic drive which can be understood in terms of a…
We demonstrate that an ultracold many-body bosonic ensemble confined in an one-dimensional (1D) double well potential exhibits a population imbalance between the two wells at large timescales, when the depth of the wells are modulated by a time-dependent driving force. The specific form of the driving force is shown to break spatial parity and time-reversal symmetries, which leads to such an asymptotic population imbalance (API). The value of the API can be flexibly controlled by changing the phase of the driving force and the total number of particles. While the API is highly sensitive to the…
The out-of-equilibrium dynamics of finite ultracold bosonic ensembles in periodically driven one-dimensional optical lattices is investigated. Our study reveals that the driving enforces the bosons in different wells to oscillate in-phase and to exhibit a dipole-like mode. A wide range from weak-to-strong driving frequencies is covered and a resonance-like behaviour of the intra-well dynamics is discussed. In the proximity of the resonance a rich intraband excitation spectrum is observed. The single particle excitation mechanisms are studied in the framework of Floquet theory elucidating the r…
We explore the correlated quantum dynamics of a single atom, regarded as an open system, with a spatio-temporally localized coupling to a finite bosonic environment. The single atom, initially prepared in a coherent state of low energy, oscillates in a one-dimensional harmonic trap and thereby periodically penetrates an interacting ensemble of $N_A$ bosons, held in a displaced trap. We show that the inter-species energy transfer accelerates with increasing $N_A$ and becomes less complete at the same time. System-environment correlations prove to be significant except for times when the excess …
We show that a two-component mixture of a few repulsively interacting ultracold atoms in a one-dimensional trap possesses very different quantum regimes and that the crossover between them can be induced by tuning the interactions in one of the species. In the composite fermionization regime, where the interactions between both components are large, none of the species show large occupation of any natural orbital. Our results show that by increasing the interaction in one of the species, one can reach the phase-separated regime. In this regime, the weakly interacting component stays at the cen…
We study zero-temperature quantum fluctuations in harmonically trapped one-dimensional interacting Bose gases, using the self-consistent multiconfigurational time-dependent Hartree method. We define $phase$ $fluctuations$ from the full single-particle density matrix by the spatial decay exponent of off-diagonal long-range order. In a regime of mesoscopic particle numbers and moderate contact couplings, we derive the spatial dependence of the amplitude of phase fluctuations, determined from the {\em self-consistently} derived shape of the field operator orbitals and Fock space orbital occupatio…
The subject of bianyon interference with ultracold atoms is introduced through theoretical investigations pertaining to the second-order momentum correlation maps of two anyons (built upon spinless and spin-1/2 bosonic, as well as spin-1/2 fermionic ultracold atoms) trapped in a double-well optical trap. The two-particle system is modeled according to the recently proposed protocols for emulating an anyonic Hubbard Hamiltonian in ultracold-atom one-dimensional lattices. Because the second-order momentum correlations are mirrored in the time-of-flight second-order interference patterns in space…
The non-linear coupled particle light dynamics of an ultracold gas in the field of two independent counter-propagating laser beams can lead to the dynamical formation of a self-ordered lattice structure as presented in Phys. Rev. X 6, 021026 (2016). Here we present new numerical studies on experimentally observable signatures to monitor the growth and properties of such a crystal in real time. While, at least theoretically, optimal non-destructive observation of the growth dynamics and the hallmarks of the crystalline phase can be performed by analyzing the scattered light, monitoring the evol…
Ultracold bosonic atoms in optical lattices self-organize into a variety of structural and quantum phases when placed into a single-mode cavity and pumped by a laser. Cavity optomechanical effects induce an atom density modulation at the cavity-mode wave length that competes with the optical lattice arrangement. Simultaneously short-range interactions via particle hopping promote superfluid order, such that a variety of structural and quantum coherent phases can occur. We analyze the emerging phase diagram in two dimensions by means of an extended Bose-Hubbard model using a local mean field ap…
We present a numerical simulation of the double slit interference experiment realized by F. Shimizu, K. Shimizu and H. Takuma with ultracold atoms. We show how the Feynman path integral method enables the calculation of the time-dependent wave function. Because the evolution of the probability density of the wave packet just after it exits the slits raises the issue of the interpreting the wave/particle dualism, we also simulate trajectories in the de Broglie-Bohm interpretation.
We study the dynamics of ultracold atoms trapped in optical double-well potentials in presence of noise generated by an external environment. When prepared in a Fock number state, the system shows phase coherence in the averaged density profile obtained using standard absorption image techniques, that disappears in absence of noise. This effect indicates that also in many-body systems an external environment may enhance quantum coherence, instead of destroying it.
The out-of-equilibrium dynamics of interaction quenched finite ultracold bosonic ensembles in periodically driven one-dimensional optical lattices is investigated. It is shown that periodic driving enforces the bosons in the outer wells of the finite lattice to exhibit out-of-phase dipole-like modes, while in the central well the atomic cloud experiences a local breathing mode. The dynamical behavior is investigated with varying driving frequency, revealing a resonant-like behavior of the intra-well dynamics. An interaction quench in the periodically driven lattice gives rise to admixtures of …
We show how strongly correlated ultracold bosonic atoms loaded in specific orbital angular momentum states of arrays of cylindrically symmetric potentials can realize a variety of spin-1/2 models of quantum magnetism. We consider explicitly the dependence of the effective couplings on the geometry of the system and demonstrate that several models of interest related to a general $XYZ$ Heisenberg model with external field can be obtained. Furthermore, we discuss how the relative strength of the effective couplings can be tuned and which phases can be explored by doing so in realistic setups. Fi…
We design a quantum battery made up of bosons or fermions in an ultracold-atom setup, described by Fermi-Hubbard and Bose-Hubbard models, respectively. We compare the performance of bosons and fermions to determine which can function as a quantum battery more effectively given a particular on-site interaction and initial state temperature. The performance of a quantum battery is quantified by the maximum energy stored per unit time over the evolution under an on-site charging Hamiltonian. We report that when the initial battery state is in the ground state, fermions outperform bosons in a cert…
"Bottom-up" approaches to the many-body physics of fermions have demonstrated recently precise number and site-resolved preparations with tunability of interparticle interactions in single-well, SW, and double-well, DW, nano-scale confinements created by manipulating ultracold fermionic atoms with optical tweezers. These experiments emulate an analogue-simulator mapping onto the requisite microscopic hamiltonian, approaching realization of Feynman's vision of quantum simulators that "will do exactly the same as nature". Here we report on exact benchmark configuration-interaction computational …
The correlated non-equilibrium quantum dynamics following a multiple interaction quench protocol for few-bosonic ensembles confined in finite optical lattices is investigated. The quenches give rise to an interwell tunneling and excite the cradle and a breathing mode. Several tunneling pathways open during the time interval of increased interactions, while only a few occur when the system is quenched back to its original interaction strength. The cradle mode, however, persists during and in between the quenches, while the breathing mode possesses dinstinct frequencies. The occupation of excite…
The entanglement of vortices in a two-dimensional Bose-Hubbard model with artificial gauge fields is investigated using the exact diagonalization techniques. We propose an effective Hamiltonian for the spin-spin interactions between vortices responsible for this entanglement, and show that the entanglement can be detected through the quantum interference of the bosons in the vortex centers achieved using the Raman coupling and the quantum gas microscope. The strong bosonic coherence between the vortex centers originates from the charge-density wave order in the vortex core. It is robust agains…
We extent the recently developed Multi-Layer Multi-Configuration Time-Dependent Hartree method for Bosons (ML-MCTDHB) for simulating the correlated quantum dynamics of bosonic mixtures to the fermionic sector and establish a unifying approach for the investigation of the correlated quantum dynamics of mixture of indistinguishable particles, be it fermions or bosons. Relying on a multi-layer wave-function expansion, the resulting Multi-Layer Multi-Configuration Time-Dependent Hartree method for Mixtures (ML-MCTDHX) can be adapted to efficiently resolve system-specific intra- and inter-species c…
Advances with trapped ultracold atoms intensified interest in simulating complex physical phenomena, including quantum magnetism and transitions from itinerant to non-itinerant behavior. Here we show formation of antiferromagnetic ground states of few ultracold fermionic atoms in single and double well (DW) traps, through microscopic Hamiltonian exact diagonalization for two DW arrangements: (i) two linearly oriented one-dimensional, 1D, wells, and (ii) two coupled parallel wells, forming a trap of two-dimensional, 2D, nature. The spectra and spin-resolved conditional probabilities reveal for …
We study the dynamics of a ultra-cold boson gas in a lattice submitted to a constant force. We track the route of the system towards chaos created by the many-body-induced nonlinearity and show that relevant information can be extracted from an experimentally accessible quantity, the gas mean position. The threshold nonlinearity for the appearance of chaotic behavior is deduced from KAM arguments and agrees with the value obtained by calculating the associated Lyapunov exponent.
Topological states of interacting many-body systems are at the focus of current research due to the exotic properties of their elementary excitations. In this paper we suggest a realistic experimental setup for the realization of a simple version of such a phase. We show how delta-interacting bosons hopping on the links of a one-dimensional (1D) ladder can be used to simulate the thin-torus-limit of the two-dimensional (2D) Hofstadter-Hubbard model at one-quarter magnetic flux per plaquette. Bosons can be confined to ladders by optical superlattices, and synthetic magnetic fields can be realiz…
All-order momentum correlation functions associated with the time-of-flight spectroscopy of three spinless ultracold bosonic interacting neutral atoms confined in a linear three-well optical trap are presented. The underlying Hamiltonian employed for the interacting atoms is an augmented three-site Hubbard model. Our investigations target matter-wave interference of massive particles, aiming at the establishment of experimental protocols for characterizing the quantum states of trapped attractively or repulsively interacting ultracold particles, with variable interaction strength. The manifest…

Experimental control over ultracold quantum gases has made it possible to investigate low-dimensional systems of both bosonic and fermionic atoms. In closed 1D systems there are a lot of similarities in the dynamics of local quantities for spinless fermions and strongly interacting "hard-core" bosons, which on a lattice can be formalised via a Jordan-Wigner transformation. In this study, we analyse the similarities and differences for spinless fermions and hard-core bosons on a lattice in the presence of particle loss. The removal of a single fermion causes differences in local quantities comp…
We unravel the correlated tunneling dynamics of a mass imbalanced few-body fermi-fermi mixture upon quenching the tilt of a double-well. The non-equilibrium dynamics of both species changes from Rabi-oscillations close to the non-interacting limit to a delayed tunneling dynamics for moderate interspecies repulsions. Considering strong interspecies interactions the lighter species experiences quantum self-trapping due to the heavier species which acts as an effective material barrier, while performing almost perfect Rabi-oscillations. The degree of entanglement, inherent in the system, is analy…
We study the dynamics of a nonlinear one-dimensional disordered system from a spectral point of view. The spectral entropy and the Lyapunov exponent are extracted from the short time dynamics, and shown to give a pertinent characterization of the different dynamical regimes. The chaotic and self-trapped regimes are governed by log-normal laws whose origin is traced to the exponential shape of the eigenstates of the linear problem. These quantities satisfy scaling laws depending on the initial state and explain the system behaviour at longer times.
We study the physics of a rapidly-rotating gas of ultracold atomic bosons, with an internal degree of freedom. We show that in the limit of rapid rotation of the trap the problem exactly maps onto that of non-interacting fermions with spin in the lowest Landau level. The spectrum of the real bosonic system is identical to the one of the effective fermions, with the same eigenvalues and the same density of states. When the ratio of the number of atoms to the spin degeneracy is an integer number, the ground state for the effective fermions is an integer quantum Hall state. The corresponding boso…
We study ultracold three-body collisions of bosons and fermions when the interatomic interaction is tuned near a narrow Feshbach resonance. We show that the width of the resonance has a substantial impact on the collisional properties of ultracold gases in the strongly interacting regime. We obtain numerical and analytical results that allow us to identify universal features related to the resonance width. For narrow resonances, we have found a suppression of all inelastic processes in boson systems leading to deeply bound states and an enhancement for fermion systems.
The N -body problem in a double well requires new features for quantum information processing, macroscopic quantum superposition, and other fundamental studies of quantum many body physics in ultracold atoms. One needs (a) tilt, and (b) to go beyond the single-particle ground state in each well, i.e., to two or more energy levels. For (a), we show that a small potential difference between the wells, or tilt, causes the decoherence of Schrodinger cat states. However, these states reappear when the tilt can be compensated by atom-atom interactions; these tilted cat states constitute partial cats…
We investigate the transition of a quasi-one-dimensional few-boson system from a weakly correlated to a fragmented and finally a fermionized ground state. Our numerically exact analysis, based on a multi-configurational method, explores the interplay between different shapes of external and inter-particle forces. Specifically, we demonstrate that the addition of a central barrier to an otherwise harmonic trap may supports the system's fragmentation, with a symmetry-induced distinction between even and odd atom numbers. Moreover, the impact of inhomogeneous interactions is studied, where the ef…
We measure nonlocal third-order spatial correlations in non-degenerate ultracold gases of bosonic ($^{84}$Sr) and spin-polarized fermionic ($^{87}$Sr) strontium through studies of the formation rates for ultralong-range trimer Rydberg molecules. The trimer production rate is observed to be very sensitive to the effects of quantum statistics with a strong enhancement of up to a factor of six (3!) in the case of bosonic $^{84}$Sr due to bunching, and a marked reduction for spin-polarized fermionic $^{87}$Sr due to anti-bunching. The experimental results are compared to theoretical predictions an…
