Let $\{Z_n, n\geq 0\}$ be a supercritical branching process in an independent and identically distributed random environment. We prove Cramér moderate deviations and Berry-Esseen bounds for $\ln (Z_{n+n_0}/Z_{n_0})$ % under the annealed law, uniformly in $n_0 \in \mathbb{N}$, which extend the corresponding results by Grama et al. (Stochastic Process.\ Appl. 2017) established for $n_0=0$. The extension is interesting in theory, and is motivated by applications. A new method is developed for the proofs; some conditions of Grama et al. (2017) are relaxed in our present setting. An example of application is given in constructing confidence intervals to estimate the criticality parameter in terms of $\ln(Z_{n+n_0}/Z_{n_0})$ and $n$.
Let $(Z_n)$ be a supercritical branching process in a random environment $ξ= (ξ_n)$. We establish a Berry-Esseen bound and a Cramér's type large deviation expansion for $\log Z_n$ under the annealed law $\mathbb P$. We also improve some earlier results about the harmonic moments of the limit variable $W=lim_{n\to \infty} W_n$, where $W_n =Z_n/ \mathbb{E}_ξ Z_n$ is the normalized population size.
We establish nonuniform Berry-Esseen bounds for martingales under the conditional Bernstein condition. These bounds imply Cramér type large deviations for moderate $x$'s, and are of exponential decay rate as de la Peña's inequality when $x\rightarrow \infty$. Statistical applications associated with linear regressions and self-normalized large deviations are also provided.
Let $(g_{n})_{n\geq 1}$ be a sequence of independent and identically distributed positive random $d\times d$ matrices and consider the matrix product $G_n: = g_n \ldots g_1$. Under suitable conditions, we establish the Berry-Esseen bounds on the rate of convergence in the central limit theorem and moderate deviation expansions of Cramér type, for the matrix norm $\| G_n \|$ of $G_n$, for its $(i,j)$-th entry $G_n^{i,j}$, and the and for its spectral radius $ρ(G_n)$.
In this paper, we study the self-normalized Cram\a'{e}r-type moderate deviations for centered independent random variables $X_1, X_2,...$ with $0<E |X_i|^3 <\infty$. The main results refine Theorems 1.1 and 1.2 of Wang (2011), the Berry-Esseen bound (2.11) and Corollaries 2.2 and 2.3 of Jing, Shao and Wang (2003) under stronger moment conditions.
We derive Cramér type moderate deviations for stationary sequences of bounded random variables. Our results imply the moderate deviation principles and a Berry-Esseen bound. Applications to quantile coupling inequalities, functions of $ϕ$-mixing sequences, and contracting Markov chains are discussed.
Let $(Z_n)_{n\geq0}$ be a supercritical Galton-Watson process. The Lotka-Nagaev estimator $Z_{n+1}/Z_n$ is a common estimator for the offspring mean.In this paper, we establish some Cramér moderate deviation results for the Lotka-Nagaev estimator via a martingale method. Applications to construction of confidence intervals are also given.
We establish a moderate deviations principle (MDP) for the log-determinant $\log | \det (M_n) |$ of a Wigner matrix $M_n$ matching four moments with either the GUE or GOE ensemble. Further we establish Cramér--type moderate deviations and Berry-Esseen bounds for the log-determinant for the GUE and GOE ensembles as well as for non-symmetric and non-Hermitian Gaussian random matrices (Ginibre ensembles), respectively.
Let $(g_n)_{n\geq 1}$ be a sequence of independent and identically distributed random elements with law $μ$ on the general linear group $\textrm{GL}(V)$, where $V=\mathbb R^d$. Consider the random walk $G_n : = g_n \ldots g_1$, $n \geq 1$, and the coefficients $\langle f, G_n v \rangle$, where $v \in V$ and $f \in V^*$. Under suitable moment assumptions on $μ$, we prove the strong and weak laws of large numbers and the central limit theorem for $\langle f, G_n v \rangle$, which improve the previous results established under the exponential moment condition on $μ$. We further demonstrate the Be…
There is a well-known sequence of constants c_n describing the growth of supercritical Galton-Watson processes Z_n. With 'lower deviation probabilities' we refer to P(Z_n=k_n) with k_n=o(c_n) as n increases. We give a detailed picture of the asymptotic behavior of such lower deviation probabilities. This complements and corrects results known from the literature concerning special cases. Knowledge on lower deviation probabilities is needed to describe large deviations of the ratio Z_{n+1}/Z_n. The latter are important in statistical inference to estimate the offspring mean. For our proofs, we …
Exact lower bounds on the exponential moments of min(y,X) and XI{X<y} are provided given the first two moments of a random variable X. These bounds are useful in work on large deviations probabilities and nonuniform Berry-Esseen bounds, when the Cramér tilt transform may be employed. Asymptotic properties of these lower bounds are presented. Comparative advantages of the Winsorization min(y,X) over the truncation XI{X<y} are demonstrated.
Uniform and nonuniform Berry--Esseen (BE) bounds of optimal orders on the closeness to normality for general abstract nonlinear statistics are given, which are then used to obtain optimal bounds on the rate of convergence in the delta method for vector statistics. Specific applications to Pearson's, non-central Student's and Hotelling's statistics, sphericity test statistics, a regularized canonical correlation, and maximum likelihood estimators (MLEs) are given; all these uniform and nonuniform BE bounds appear to be the first known results of these kinds, except for uniform BE bounds for MLE…
