It was recently shown that the homogeneous and isotropic cosmology of a massless scalar field coupled to general relativity exhibits a new hidden conformal invariance under Mobius transformation of the proper time, additionally to the invariance under time-reparamterization. The resulting Noether charges form a $sl(2,\mathbb{R})$ Lie algebra, which encapsulates the whole kinematics and dynamics of the geometry. This allows to map FLRW cosmology onto conformal mechanics and formulate quantum cosmology in $\text{CFT}_1$ terms. Here, we show that this conformal structure is embedded in a larger $so(3,2)$ algebra of observables, which allows to present all the Dirac observables for the whole gravity plus matter sectors in a unified picture. Not only this allows one to quantize the system and its whole algebra of observables as a single irreducible representation of $so(3,2)$, but this also gives access to a scalar field operator $\hatϕ$ opening the door to the inclusion of non-trivial potentials for the scalar field. As such, this extended conformal structure might allow to perform a group quantization of inflationary cosmological backgrounds.
We show that the Friedmann-Lemaitre-Robertson-Walker equations with scalar field and perfect fluid matter source are equivalent to a suitable non-linear Schrodinger type equation. This provides for an alternate method of obtaining exact solutions of the Einstein field equations for a homogeneous, isotropic universe.
We investigate the FLRW type cosmology of the Induced Dark Energy model and illustrate that the extra terms emerging from the fifth dimension can play the role of dark energy. The model predicts the expansion with deceleration at early time and acceleration in late time for an open universe.
We introduce the formalism of quantum cosmology in a Friedmann-Lemaître-Robertson-Walker (FLRW) universe of arbitrary dimension filled with a perfect fluid with $p=αρ$ equation of state. First we show that the Schutz formalism, developed in four dimensions, can be extended to a n-dimensional universe. We compute the quantum representant of the scale factor $a(t)$, in the Many-Worlds, as well as, in the de Broglie-Bohm interpretation of quantum mechanics. We show that the singularities, which are still present in the n-dimensional generalization of FLRW universe, are excluded with the introduct…
The propagation of a scalar field in an open FLRW bounce-type quantum spacetime is examined, which arises within the framework of the IKKT matrix theory. In the first part of the paper, we employ general-relativity tools to study null and timelike geodesics at the classical level. This analysis reveals that massless and massive non-interacting particles can travel across the big bounce. We then exploit quantum-field-theory techniques to evaluate the scalar field propagator. In the late-time regime, we find that it resembles the standard Feynman propagator of flat Minkowski space, whereas for e…
It is well known that classical Unimodular Gravity (UG) is equivalent to General Relativity, but is not clear the equivalence at the quantum level. Here we exhibit, in the UG framework, the Quantum Cosmology (QC) for a Friedmann-Lemaitre-Robertson-Walker (FLRW) universe, considering an inflationary scenario and also introducing a deformation on the commutation relations for the minisuperspace variables (NCC).
We prove that for the Friedmann-Lemaitre-Robertson-Walker metric, the field equations of any generic gravity theory in arbitrary dimensions are of the perfect fluid type. The cases of general Lovelock and $\mathcal{F}(R, \mathcal{G})$ theories are given as examples.
A Newtonian uniform ball expanding in empty space constitutes a common heuristic analogy for FLRW cosmology. We discuss possible implementations of the corresponding general-relativistic problem and a variety of new cosmological analogies arising from them. We highlight essential ingredients of the Newtonian analogy, including that the quasilocal energy is always `Newtonian' in the sense that the magnetic part of the Weyl tensor does not contribute to it. A symmetry of the Einstein-Friedmann equations produces another one in the original Newtonian system.
We construct an extension of standard flat FLRW cosmology with matter, possessing local D = 1, N = 1 proper-time supersymmetry. The fundamental equation for the resulting mini-superspace models of quantum universes is a Dirac-like analogue of the Friedmann and Wheeler-DeWitt equations. We provide solutions of this equation for specific matter configurations based on the supersymmetric O(3) and O(2, 1) sigma-models. It turns out that in the compact model the volume rate of growth of the universe is quantized and non-vanishing due to the zero-point energy of the scalar fields. In the non-compact…
The present work deals with quantum cosmology for non-minimally coupled scalar field in the background of FLRW space--time model. The Wheeler-DeWitt equation is constructed and symmetry analysis is carried out. The Lie point symmetries are related to the conformal algebra of the minisuperspace while solution of the Wheeler-DeWitt equation is obtained using conserved currents of the Noether symmetries.
We study the shear dynamics of higher dimensional Friedmann-Lemaître-Robertson-Walker (FLRW) cosmology by considering a non-perfect fluid which exerts different pressure in the normal and extra dimensions. We generalise the definition of shear tensor for higher dimensional space-time and prove it to be consistent with the evolution equation for shear tensor obtained from the Ricci identities. The evolution of shear tensor is investigated numerically. The role of extra dimensions and other parameters involved in shear dynamics is discussed in detail. We find that with increase in anisotropy par…
Quantum cosmology of the Friedmann-Lemaître-Robertson-Walker model with cosmological constant in the Ho$\check{\rm r}$ava-Lifshitz type gravity is studied in the phase space by means of the Wigner function. The modification of the usual general relativity description by the Ho$\check{\rm r}$ava-Lifshitz type gravity induces a new scenario for the origin of the Universe with an embryonic era where the Universe can exist classically before the tunneling process takes place and which gives rise to the current evolution of the Universe. The Wigner functions corresponding to the Hartle-Hawking, Vil…
We report a method of solving for canonical scalar field exact solution in a non-flat FLRW universe with barotropic fluid using non-linear Schrödinger (NLS)-type formulation in comparison to the method in the standard Friedmann framework. We consider phantom and non-phantom scalar field cases with exponential and power-law accelerating expansion. Analysis on effective equation of state to both cases of expansion is also performed. We speculate and comment on some advantage and disadvantage of using the NLS formulation in solving for the exact solution.
We study the Friedmann-Lemaitre-Robertson-Walker (FLRW) cosmology in the Weyl-transverse (WTDiff) gravity in a general space-time dimension. The WTDiff gravity is invariant under both the local Weyl (conformal) transformation and the volume preserving diffeormorphisms (transverse diffeomorphisms) and is believed to be equivalent to general relativity at least at the classical level (perhaps, even in the quantum regime). It is explicitly shown by solving the equations of motion that the FLRW metric is a classical solution in the WTDiff gravity only when the spatial metric is flat, that is, the …
Massive bigravity models are interesting alternatives to standard cosmology. In most cases, however, these models have been studied for a simplified scenario in which both metrics take homogeneous and isotropic forms [Friedmann-Lemaître-Robertson-Walker (FLRW)] with the same spatial curvatures. The interest to consider more general geometries arises, in particular, in view of the difficulty so far encountered in building stable cosmological solutions with homogeneous and isotropic metrics. Here we consider a number of cases in which the two metrics take more general forms, namely FLRW with dif…
We consider the k=1 Friedman-Lemaitre-Robertson-Walker (FLRW) model within loop quantum cosmology (LQC), from the perspective of the two available quantization prescriptions. We focus our attention on the existence of the so called `inverse corrections' in the quantization process. We derive the corresponding quantum constraint operators, and study in detail the issue of the self-adjointness of the quantum Hamiltonian constraint for two different quantizations based on open holonomies. Furthermore, we analize in detail the resulting effective theories, paying special attention to issues such a…
In the context of metric f(R) gravity, we consider a FLRW space-time, filled with a perfect fluid described by a barotropic equation of state (p = γρ). We give the equivalent mini-superspace description and use the reparametrization invariance of the resulting Lagrangian to work in the equivalent constant potential description. At that point, we restrict our analysis to those models for which the ensuing scaled mini-superspace is maximally symmetric. Those models exhibit the maximum number of autonomous integrals of motion linear in the momenta, which are constructed by the Killing vectors of …
We investigate the Weyl space-time extension of general relativity (GR) for studying the FLRW cosmology through focusing and defocusing of the geodesic congruences. We have derived the equations of evolution for expansion, shear and rotation in the Weyl space-time. In particular we consider the Starobinsky modification, $f(R)=R+βR^2-2Λ$, of gravity in the Einstein-Palatini formalism, which turns out to reduce to the Weyl integrable space-time (WIST) with the Weyl vector being a gradient. The modified Raychaudhuri equation takes the form of the Hill-type equation which is then analysed for stud…
The dynamics of multiple scalar fields on a flat FLRW spacetime can be described entirely as a relational system in terms of the matter alone. The matter dynamics is an autonomous system from which the geometrical dynamics can be inferred, and this autonomous system remains deterministic at the point corresponding to the singularity of the cosmology. We show the continuation of this system corresponds to a parity inversion at the singularity, and that the singularity itself is a surface on which the space-time manifold becomes non-orientable.
We investigate an interacting two-fluid model in a spatially flat Friedmann-Lemaître-Robertson-Walker (FLRW) Universe, when the energy transfer between these two dark components is produced by a factorisable nonlinear sign-changeable interaction depending linearly on the energy density and quadratically on the deceleration parameter. We solve the source equation and obtain the effective energy densities of the dark sector and their components. We show that the effective equation of state of the dark sector includes some of the several kind of Chaplygin gas equations of state as well as a gener…
This work aims to study consequences of \textit{combined variable field theory} developed in [1] by analysing FLRW models of gravity. It shows $Φ_{q \rightarrow 0} \rightarrow \infty$ is the Big bang in combined variable field theoretic settings. Nature of the Universe depends on the new parameter $k$ appearing in the theory. Flat Universe has two disconnected branches namely expanding and collapsing Universe. Combined variable field for closed Universe is complex in general. Whereas, the theory of open Universe is necessarily self-coupled combined variable field theory. But in the large $r$ l…

We show initial data for gravitational axial waves, that are twice differentiable but which are not $C^{2}$. They generate wave pulses that interact with matter in the radiation cosmological era. This forces the radiation matter to rotate. This rotation is permanent - it persists after the passage of the gravitational pulse. The observed inhomogeneities of the cosmic microwave background radiation put a bound onto discontinuities of superhorizon metric perturbations. We explicitly show that a class of smooth initial metrics that are at least $C^{2}$ gives rise to gravitational wave pulses that…
We propose a new method for obtaining an effective Friedmann-Lemaître-Robertson-Walker (FLRW) cosmology from the quantum gravity dynamics of group field theory (GFT), based on the idea that an FLRW universe is characterised by a few macroscopic observables. Rather than relying on assuming a particular type of quantum state and computing expectation values in such a state, here we directly start from relations between macroscopic observables (defined as one-body operators) and formulate dynamics only for those observables. We apply the effective approach to constrained quantum systems (as devel…
We propose an efficient analytical method for estimating the luminosity distance in a homogenous Friedmann-Lemaître-Robertson-Walker (FLRW) model of the Universe. This method is based on the homotopy perturbation method (HPM), which has high accuracy in many nonlinear problems, and can be easily implemented. For analytical calculation of the luminosity distance, we offer to proceed not from the computation of the integral, which determines it, but from the solution of a certain differential equation with corresponding initial conditions. Solving this equation by means of HPM, we obtain the app…
The study of cosmological perturbation theory in $f(T)$ gravity is a topic of great interest in teleparallel gravity since this is one of the simplest generalizations of the theory that modifies the teleparallel equivalent of general relativity. In this work, we explore the possibility of a non-flat FLRW background solution and perform perturbations for positively as well as negatively curved spatial geometries, together with a comparison to the flat case. We determine the generalized behaviour of the perturbative modes for this non-flat FLRW setting for arbitrary $f(T)$ models, when the most …
We study the loop quantum cosmology of a flat Friedmann-Lemaitre-Robertson-Walker space-time with a Maxwell field. We show that many of the qualitative properties derived for the case of a massless scalar field also hold for a Maxwell field. In particular, the big-bang singularity is replaced by a quantum bounce, and the operator corresponding to the matter energy density is bounded above by the same critical energy density. We also numerically study the evolution of wave functions that are sharply peaked in the low energy regime, and derive effective equations which very closely approximate t…
The tension between early and late Universe probes of the Hubble constant has motivated various new FLRW cosmologies. Here, we reanalyse the Hubble tension with a recent age of the Universe constraint. This allows us to restrict attention to matter and a dark energy sector that we treat without assuming a specific model. Assuming analyticity of the Hubble parameter $H(z)$, and a generic low redshift modification to flat $Λ$CDM, we find that low redshift data ($z \lesssim 2.5$) and well-motivated priors only permit a dark energy sector close to the cosmological constant $Λ$. This restriction ru…
In this manuscript, the field equations of a chameleon field in which the matter Lagrangian term is a general function of the scalar field as well as matter field, are derived. The equations are then expressed in Friedmann--Lemaître--Robertson--Walker~(FLRW) framework and the associated phase portraits and a power law solution are discussed in details. It is shown that why non-minimal coupling between the chameleon and matter fields leads to an energy transfer between the fields which consequently, affects the expansion rate of the universe. The transfer direction is determined by the second l…
Inspired by Lifshitz theory for quantum critical phenomena in condensed matter, Horava proposed a theory for quantum gravity with an anisotropic scaling in ultraviolet. In Horava-Lifshitz gravity (HLG), we have studied the impacts of six types of equations of state on the evolution of various cosmological parameters such as Hubble parameters and scale factor. From the comparison of the general relativity gravity with the HLG with detailed and without with non-detailed balance conditions, remarkable differences are found. Also, a noticeable dependence of singular and non-singular Big Bang on th…
We analyze the quantum supersymmetric cosmological FRW model with a scalar field, with a conditional probability density and the scalar field identified as time. The Hilbert space has a spinorial structure and there is only one consistent solution, with a conserved probability density. The dynamics of the scale factor is obtained from its mean value. The uncertainty relations are fulfilled and the corresponding fluctuations are consistent with a semiclassical Universe. We give two examples which turn out to have negative potential.
Guided by the analogy with the Rayleigh-Plesset dynamics of multielectron bubbles in superfluid He-4, we consider the cosmological FLRW evolution equation with additional cubic and sixth powers of the inverse of the scale factor of the universe. For the barotropic parameter w=2/3 (coasting universe), along with zero cosmological constant in the absence of viscous terms, by using the Sundman time as evolution parameter, we present parametric solutions for the scale factor of the universe in terms of rational expressions of Weierstrass elliptic functions and their particular cases thereof. For o…
In this paper we contrasted two cosmological perturbation theory formalisms, the 1+3 covariant gauge invariant and the gauge invariant by comparing their gauge invariant variables associated with magnetic field defined in each approach. In the first part we give an introduction to each formalism assuming the presence of a magnetic field. We found that gauge invariant quantities defined by 1+3 covariant approach are related with spatial variations of the magnetic field (defined in the gauge invariant formalism) between two closed fundamental observers. This relation was computed by choosing the…
We discuss cosmological effects of the quantum loops of massless particles, which lead to temporal non-localities in the equations of motion governing the scale factor a(t). For the effects discussed here, loops cause the evolution of a(t) to depend on the memory of the curvature in the past with a weight that scales initially as 1/(t-t'). As one of our primary examples we discuss the situation with a large number of light particles, such that these effects occur in a region where gravity may still be treated classically. However, we also describe the effect of quantum graviton loops and the f…
Examples of test electromagnetic waves on a Friedmann-Lemaitre-Robertson-Walker(FLRW) background are constructed from explicit perturbations of the FLRW space-times describing gravitational waves propagating in the isotropic universes. A possible physical mechanism for the production of the test electromagnetic waves is shown to be the coupling of the gravitational waves with a test magnetic field, confirming the observation of Marklund, Dunsby and Brodin [Phys.Rev. D62,101501(R) (2000)].
Nurowski [arXiv:1003.1503] has recently suggested a link between the observation of Dark Energy in cosmology and the projective equivalence of certain Friedman-Lemaitre-Robertson-Walker (FLRW) metrics. Specifically, he points out that two FLRW metrics with the same unparameterized geodesics have their energy densities differing by a constant. From this he queries whether the existence of dark energy is meaningful. We point out that physical observables in cosmology are not projectively invariant and we relate the projective symmetry uncovered by Nurowski to some previous work on projective equ…
We propose comparing cosmological solutions in terms of their total spatial volumes $V(τ)$ as functions of proper time $τ$, assuming synchronous gauge, and with this intention evaluate the variations of $V(τ)$ about the Friedmann-Lema\^ıtre-Robertson-Walker (FLRW) solutions for dust. This can be done successfully in a simple manner without solving perturbation equations. In particular, we find that first variations vanish with respect to all directions which do not possess homogeneity and isotropy preserving components; in other words, every FLRW solution is a {\it critical point} for $V(τ)$ i…
We investigate the late time acceleration of the universe in the context of the Stephani model. This solution generalizes those of Friedmann-Lemaitre-Robertson-Walker (FLRW) in such a way that the spatial curvature is a function of of time. We show that the inhomogeneity of the models can lead to an accelerated evolution of the universe that is analogous to that obtained with FLRW models through a cosmological constant or any exotic component for matter.
Null infinity in asymptotically flat spacetimes posses a rich mathematical structure; including the BMS group and the Bondi news tensor that allow one to study gravitational radiation rigorously. However, FLRW spacetimes are not asymptotically flat because their stress-energy tensor does not decay sufficiently fast and in fact diverges at null infinity. This class includes matter- and radiation-dominated FLRW spacetimes. We define a class of spacetimes whose structure at null infinity is similar to FLRW spacetimes: the stress-energy tensor is allowed to diverge and the conformal factor is not …
We consider the effective evolution of a phenomenological model from FLRW supersymmetric quantum cosmology with a scalar field. The scalar field acts as a clock and inflaton. We examine a family of simple superpotentials that produce an inflation whose virtual effect on inhomogeneous fluctuations shows very good agreement with PLANCK observational evidence for the tensor-to-scalar ratio and the scalar spectral index.
The present matter density of the Universe, while highly inhomogeneous on small scales, displays approximate homogeneity on large scales. We propose that whereas it is justified to use the Friedmann-Lemaitre-Robertson-Walker (FLRW) line element (which describes an exactly homogeneous and isotropic universe) as a template to construct luminosity distances in order to compare observations with theory, the evolution of the scale factor in such a construction must be governed not by the standard Einstein equations for the FLRW metric, but by the modified Friedmann equations derived by Buchert [7, …
We address the issue of the infinite ambiguity that affects the construction of a Fock quantization of a Dirac field propagating in a cosmological spacetime with flat compact sections. In particular, we discuss a physical criterion that restricts to a unique possibility (up to unitary equivalence) the infinite set of available vacua. We prove that this desired uniqueness is guaranteed, for any possible choice of spin structure on the spatial sections, if we impose two conditions. The first one is that the symmetries of the classical system must be implemented quantum mechanically, so that the …
In a recent series of papers Endean examines the properties of spatially homogeneous and isotropic (FLRW) cosmological models filled with dust in the ``conformally flat spacetime presentation of cosmology'' (CFS cosmology). This author claims it is possible to resolve a certain number of the difficulties the standard model exhibits when confronted to observations, if the theoretical predictions are obtained in the special framework of CFS cosmology. As a by-product of his analysis Endean claims that no initial (big-bang) nor final (big-crunch) singularities occur in the closed FLRW model. In t…
In this paper we discuss the effect of local inhomogeneities on the global expansion of nearly FLRW universes, in a perturbative setting. We derive a generic linearized averaging operation for metric perturbations from basic assumptions, and we explicify the issue of gauge invariance. We derive a gauge invariant expression for the back-reaction of density inhomogeneities on the global expansion of perturbed FLRW spacetimes, in terms of observable quantities, and we calculate the effect quantitatively. Since we do not adopt a comoving gauge, our result incorporates the back-reaction on the metr…
